The USA Today has an article on the teaching of history. The report states that students don’t know enough history, and colleges aren’t adding enough to their civic literacy. The study from the non-profit Intercollegiate Studies Institute shows that less than half of college seniors knew that Yorktown was the battle that ended the American Revolution or that NATO was formed to resist Soviet expansion.

You can take the American Civic Literacy quiz used in the study at the site of the article here

“We fear the demonization of Ahmadinejad”

By ATWadmin On September 23rd, 2007 at 6:10 pm

According to Harrys Place, Columbia Coalition Against the War are opposing planned demonstrations against Ahmadinejad when he speaks on Monday at Columbia University in New York:

A number of students and student organizations have already announced plans for a protest rally the same day. We are not among them. We do not endorse Ahmadinejad or his views, many of which are inexcusable. However, as opponents of a US military strike against Iran, we have serious concerns with the content of some of the hostility that has been expressed to his presence, and specifically with the planned protest.

We fear the demonization of Ahmadinejad, because we think this demonization contributes to the likelihood of war. In the current climate, with many on the political right in the U.S. and Israel pushing for air strikes, a campaign against Ahmadinejad is dangerous, regardless of the intentions of most involved. A call to action, unless it prominently rules out war, implies military action.

American contributor Gene, summarises: So it seems that if you don’t loudly proclaim your opposition to war every time you criticize Ahmadinejad and company, it means you want war. The effect of all this, intentional or not, is to render as suspect any sort of public criticism of the regime.

On the whole, it’s a position I’m sure the Iranian regime (as opposed to the Iranian people) appreciates very much.

I see that on the eve of his trip to New York City, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stood before a banner blaring "Death to America," showed off his military might and declared his extremist regime will not bow to Western pressure. "Those who think, that by using such decayed tools as psychological warfare and economic sanctions, they can stop the Iranian nation’s progress are making a mistake," Ahmadinejad said yesterday outside of Tehran. As he spoke, a parade of anti-aircraft guns, missiles and military hardware moved before him. Three jet fighters flew overhead. In a menacing move, Ahmadinejad’s military henchmen said the medium-range missiles could reach Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf. WHY is he being allowed on US soil? There is no value in this whatsoever and it is my view that he should be banned.

US politeness will be interpreted as weakness.

…Hitler! Here is a wonderful example of the absolute moral bankruptcy which typifies the political Left in their academic Ivory towers. Listen to what this Columbian University Dean has to say…he claims to speak for many! Does he speak for you?

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

By ATWadmin On September 23rd, 2007 at 10:31 am

Just to remind the younger readers of these pages that there used to be a large, but rather inefficient band of people who really hated anything that was Western; and an even larger bunch of Western-oriented guys who were determined that the hate shouldn’t get out of hand. To those amongst us who believed that the Soviets were the ‘good guys’ and that all their armour, bombers, rockets and hundreds of thousands of troops were all amassed in the cause of self-defence; the fact that the N.A.T.O. Governments stoutly resisted any call for dis-armament, and rather pointedly increased the ante every time the Soviets said ‘Boo’ was depressing in the extreme, but even the Soviet-lovers eventually got the message. That message was of course that the Soviet Empire was the ‘Main Enemy’ and when the facade crumpled after Afghanistan, and the lightning dissolution of the Soviet Empire began in Poland, rippled through Hungary, Czechoslovakia and East Germany, even the doubters had to accept that Winston’s ‘Iron Curtain’ had finally been torn down.

So everyone relaxed, McDonalds set up in Moscow, and the world went on to discover slightly nervier things, like Islamic terror, bombers who died along with their victims, and cold-eyed fanaticism; all of which are with us today.

795151-1048283-thumbnail.jpgUnfortunately, the relaxation has spread a little too far, as was discovered when a B-52 bomber, after being parked for a night in a remote area of the base, took off on a routine mission from Minot Air Force base in North Dakota and landed in Louisiana, along with what was supposed to be twelve unarmed AGM-129 cruise missiles, and parked for a further nine hours before the removal of the missiles began.

It was only then that an alert airman discovered that six of the supposedly unarmed missiles were in fact fully-armed with nuclear warheads, loaded in error back in Minot, and never checked, or listed, or even missed by their keepers!

Peacetime is all very well, Guys, but lets not take our eyes off the ball!

Meanwhile, back at the front….

October 22 – 26, 2007 is Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week in the United States as student groups across America sponsor a series of campus events designed to bring a message to their academic communities “that challenges most of what students are taught about the so-called War on Terror both in the classroom and on the quad.”

"The plight of Muslim women will be featured at “teach-in” panels and also at sit-ins in Women’s Studies Departments, designed to protest the absence of courses that focus on Islamic gynophobia. The silence of Women’s Studies departments in the face of this oppression is a national outrage. College students are offered the opportunity to study the “oppression” of women in Boston and Beverly Hills in hundreds of Women’s Studies courses across America. But there is not a single course we are aware of that addresses the real oppression of women in Teheran and Riyadh. In Saudi Arabia, to take one horrendous example, Saudi police recently shot to death schoolgirls who were fleeing a burning building without their veils. Better that they should be dead than seen…

…The purpose of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week is as simple as it is critical: to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the "war on terror" and that global warming is a greater danger to Americans than global jihad and Islamic supremacism. "(My emphasis.)

Do you think anyone at Columbia will ask Ahmadinejad about Islamic gynophobia in Iran?

…West Virginia. Or so John Denver claimed in "Country Roads". But West Virginia turned out to be hell for a woman who was allegedly tortured and abused by six residents of West Virginia. Get this;

"The 23-year-old woman had stab wounds on her left leg and bruises around her eyes, authorities said. The wounds were about a week old, the release said. "Deputies found her with two black eyes, part of her hair had been pulled out, she had lacerations on her neck, and she had been physically, mentally and sexually abused," Logan County Sheriff W.E. Hunter said. The victim was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from the toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court".

Man’s inhumanity to man is a shocking thing. It doesn’t matter to me about the colour angle, which some in the UK media seems to have latched onto, this is just a completely unacceptable way to behave. The culprits deserve to be locked up for a very long time for what they put this person through. What is it that makes people behave like this? Is it innate evil and/or is it a complete absence of values?

Hat-tip to Pinky for the link.

pethotel.jpgDid you read about the love motel in Soa Paulo which has opened for amorous…. dogs? The love motel offers decorated rooms for dogs of pet owners who are concerned for their animal’s needs.Robson Marinho, owner of a pet shop, built the air-conditioned room on the second floor and hung a sign that reeds "Pet Love Motel". The rooms in the motel, at Barra Funda, are decorated in the same way as love motels for humans, with satin sheets, ceiling heart-shaped mirrors, special control panel to dim the lights, romantic music and lots of cushions. Even the windows have thick curtains for timid dogs that want discretion. You’d have to be barking mad to a/Think of the idea in the first place and b/ Put your pooch through the shame!

George Soros — Dr. No Redux

By ATWadmin On September 21st, 2007 at 3:27 am

On September 10th, only a week ago,  General Petreaus reported to the United States Congress that the Surge in Iraq was working.  On the same day, The New York Times ran a deeply discounted ad for George Soros’s  anti-war group, Moveon.org, headlined “General Petreaus or General Betray Us?”

With this ad, George Soros, and Moveon.org, call General Petreaus a liar.

George Soros does not believe that we can win the war against terror. Nor does he believe that we can win in Iraq. And he will do whatever he can to ensure our defeat.

The last time I wrote on this blog about George Soros I called him “Dr. No.”  If I remember correctly, some commentators objected. They said that Soros is an old man, and therefore ineffectual.  Or they said that because Soros survived Nazi Germany, or helped Hungary in the 1980’s,  or because Soros professes to be a follower of Karl Popper that somehow Soros does not pose a threat to the United States.

I beg to differ.

This recent ad, as well as Moveon.org’s continuing play for influence with Washington Democrats proves that George Soros is indeed a threat to America and that this threat should be exposed and taken seriously.

FROM Investor’s Business Daily:

“The first groups Soros supported back in the 1980s did play a role in undercutting the rickety communist regimes of Eastern Europe. But his motives seemed less than idealistic. All Soros groups tend to tear down tyrannies rather than build up democracies.

And since 2003, tearing down what he views as the "fascist" tyranny of the United States, as he has put it, is "the central focus of my life."

Through networks of nongovernmental organizations, Soros intends to ruin the presidency of George W. Bush "by any legal means necessary" and knock America off its global pedestal. "His view of America is so negative," says Sen. Joe Lieberman, who, like Gen. David Petraeus, has been a target of Soros’ electoral "philanthropy." "The places he’s put his money are … so destructive that it unsettles me." Soros’ aim seems to be to make the U.S. just another client state easily controlled by the United Nations and other one-world groups where he has lots of friends.”

Soros has the money, the will,  and a network of nonprofit organizations such as Moveon.org available to him and he is making serious headway towards the destruction of the United States as we know her today by attempting to control the Democratic Party in Washington DC. It is time for those who love America to sit up and take notice before Soros’s stealth campaign of internal destruction destroys this great nation, America.

“Acting like he’s white”

By ATWadmin On September 20th, 2007 at 8:43 pm

One story that our American readers, at least, will no doubt have come across is that of the so-called "Jena 6". These are six young black men in the town of Jena, Louisiana, who are charged with a variety of serious offences, including attempted murder, after a vicious assault on a white schoolboy, who was knocked unconscious and then kicked and stamped upon by his attackers. As so often happens when a black person is caught committing a crime, the race relations industry circus has come to town, with groups and individuals ranging from the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People through to the rapper Mos Def condemning the decision to charge the alleged perpetrators. After all, if some brothers want to kill a white devil, who has any right to deny them that pleasure?

However, it is not about the alleged offence itself that I wish to write, but rather about certain statements made by the doyen of the American – and indeed the worldwide – race relations industry, Jesse Jackson. It seems that Jackson was not best pleased with the failure of the black presidential candidate Barack Obama to run away and join the Jena circus, and so, speaking at a black college in South Carolina, Jackson accused Obama of "acting like he’s white". Such comments about Obama are not, apparently, uncommon among the American black community, where he is regarded with suspicion as being "not black enough".

Now, if a white person dared to suggest that another white person was "acting like a black", with the implication that this was a bad thing, he would be pilloried by the race equality lynch mob. But it is extremely common for non-whites to compare those of their own race whom they dislike to white people – the term ‘coconut’ springs particularly to mind. And Jesse Jackson is no ordinary black man. Rather, he is someone who is fairly consistently lauded as a great champion of racial equality, and as a fervent "anti-racist". In truth, however, he is as racist as they come. Indeed, his apparent dislike of white people is rather mild compared to his anti-Semitism: he has previously denounced Jews as "Hymies", and described New York as "Hymietown".

This is not the first time that a self-proclaimed "anti-racist" has been shown to be anything but. In March of this year Sheffield-based "anti-racism campaigner" Herald "Ruggie" Johnson was convicted of racially-aggravated harassment, while I have previously written about the overtly and violently racist lyrics of supposedly "anti-racist" rappers, such as the group Public Enemy. Of course, his conviction has not killed off Ruggie Johnson’s career, nor has Public Enemy’s black supremacism stopped them from being held up as great champions of racial equality. The reason for this is simple: the "anti-racist" movement is not, in truth, anti-racist, it is anti-white, and utterly pervaded by double standards. Jesse Jackson is one of the most vile embodiments of the hypocrisy of the movement, and it is high time that he is torn down from the pedestal on which the liberal-left has placed him, and cast into the gutter where he belongs.
