Like many others, I was sickened at the way in which some of those miserable apologists for kidnapped British sailors where hailed as being "heroes" on their return to the UK , even whilst whinging that their IPODS had been taken and the quality of suits provided by the Iranians was poor. So how about this for a contrast?

librescu.jpgA 75-year-old survivor of the Holocaust sacrificed his life to save his students in Monday’s shooting at Virginia Tech College that left 32 dead and over two dozen wounded. Professor Liviu Librescu threw himself in front of the shooter, who had attempted to enter his classroom. The Israeli mechanics and engineering lecturer was shot to death, "but all the students lived – because of him," Virginia Tech student Asael Arad – also an Israeli – told Army Radio.  "My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out"

He died that many others may live. ATW salutes this brave man and his family are in my prayers. I trust the BBC will give coverage to the nobility and self sacrifice of Professor Librescu. I hope ATW readers will all unite and pay tribute to this courageous soul.

‘Only the BBC could skewer the tragedy in Virginia and create a platform for debate riddled with anti-American comment.  Furthermore, it is the only broadcaster who could find an American commentator who could somehow link the tragedy to the Left’s perceived inadequacies of President Bush’s administration.’  Discuss.

virginia-tech.jpgI’ve been following the shocking events that have taken place today at Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia. It appears that at least 32 students have been shot to death, with many more wounded. The gun-man, an "Asian" is reputed to be dead. It’s breaking news as I write, and I’m sure we’ll get a lot more detail later on, but I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies to the people of the USA reeling with this tragedy. Such an awful tragedy. It’s impossible to imagine the grief the family of those dozens of murdered students must be feeling but I pray that God will be with them.

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me"

Isn’t it bad form that that the governor of Kansas has been put in position where he has had to sign a law today barring protesters from funerals in an attempt to curtail a fundamentalist church that pickets military funerals, claiming the deaths are God’s punishment for homosexuality? However, the legislation has the legal novelty of not taking effect until the Kansas Supreme Court or a federal court upholds it as constitutional. Legislators added that provision to lessen concerns that the Rev. Fred Phelps and his followers would file a legal challenge, win and collect attorney fees from the state. “It’s disgraceful for anyone to try and disrupt a funeral,” Gov. Kathleen Sebelius said during a Statehouse ceremony. “It is unfortunate this reprehensible practice has been exported to other states.”

I think it repulsive that "so-called" Christians would behave so deplorably but then again the members of Westboro Baptist Church, a small fundamentalist congregation in Topeka, who picket burials of US troops killed in combat, are space cadets who demonstrate a lack of the Christian values they espouse. I think the families of murdered US soldiers have enough misery to cope with, and this kind of stupid bigoted behaviour does no good in any way whatsoever.

I was fascinated to read that Nancy Pelosi has received rave reviews following her recent tour of Islamistan. Islamic Jihad, Hamas and the Al Aqsa Brigade all have been drooling over Nancy’s star appearance, as you can read over here on LGF.

Best quote for me comes from terror leader, Khaled Al-Batch, a terrorist and spokesman for Islamic Jihad, who has expressed hope Pelosi would continue winning elections, explaining the House speaker’s Damascus visit demonstrated she understands the Middle East.  “Nancy Pelosi understands the area (Middle East) well, more than Bush and Dr. (Condoleezza) Rice,” said Al-Batch, “If the Democrats want to make negotiations with Syria, Hamas, and Hizbullah, this means the Democratic Party understands well what happens in this area and I think Pelosi will succeed. … I hope she wins the next elections.”

I’m sure you are familiar with Islamic Jihad, but in case you need an update try here. They just LOVE kiiling pesky Jews, and funnily enough they just LOVE Nancy. The shape of things to come should a Dem win the White House in 08?

Pelosi Hearts Dhimmitude

By ATWadmin On April 3rd, 2007 at 10:48 pm

House Speaker Pelosi visits Syria to implement Baker Study Group recommendations despite requests from the Bush Administration that she not do this, and voluntary submits to a "modesty" head scarf and dhimmitude.  It seems that she has more respect for Syria than she does for the United States. 795151-756586-thumbnail.jpg

Pelosi Disregards Law of the Jungle

By ATWadmin On April 3rd, 2007 at 6:52 pm

In one fell swoop, Nancy Pelosi, US House Speaker, demonstrates her ignorance of Rudyard Kipling and her willingness to put  America’s foreign policy at risk by traveling Syria to “talk.”

Now this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

(From The Law of the JunglE)

President Bush has sought to isolate Syria and during a White House press conference said:

We have made it clear to high-ranking officials, whether they be Republicans or Democrats, that going to Syria sends mixed signals,’ Bush said.

‘Photo opportunities and/or meetings with President Assad lead the Assad government to believe they’re part of the mainstream of the international community, when, in fact, they’re a state sponsor of terror,’ he added.

monstersandcritics.com continues:

Pelosi, a Democrat and a staunch opponent of Bush, had previously visited Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. She heads a congressional delegation which also includes Representative Keith Ellison, a Democrat from Minnesota who is the first Muslim in Congress. The Democratic chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Tom Lantos, also accompanied Pelosi.
Former Syrian Information Minister Mahdi Dakhlallah told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that her visit indicated the failure of all attempts to isolate Syria.  (my emphasis)

syria.bmpWonder what you make of Nancy Pelosi’s decision to go ahead and visit Syria, a country President Bush has shunned as a sponsor of terrorism, despite being asked by the administration not to go?

"In our view, it is not the right time to have these sort of high- profile visitors to Syria," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.  Pelosi is making a direct affront to the administration, which says such diplomatic overtures by lawmakers can do more harm than good.

Once again, the UTTER RECKLESSNESS of the Democrat Party is manifest. Will Nancy be going to ask Syria about its destabilishing interventions in Iraq? Will Nancy ask about Syria’s sponsorship of Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorist groups. HAMAS, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PLFP), and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC). Or will she take the chance to further undermine the Bush administration?

ATW regular Ernest Young writes…

"I noticed a small item regarding desertions from the US military. Quoted from the NYT….

"Military desertions during the Iraq War period remain below peacetime levels. Desertions rates actually jumped  in 2001, with nearly 1,000 more soldiers deserting when all we were doing was invading Afghanistan and hunting for Osama bin Laden, than since we opened the second GWOT front in Iraq, when desertions dropped. Desertion rates during Vietnam Redux nowhere near desertion rates during Classic Vietnam.  The 2006 increase mentioned above is still many hundreds below the popular war period of 2001 and 2002."

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, said she was not alarmed by the number of Army Desertions. "When Democrats say ˜We support the troops", Representative Pelosi -(Democrat House Leader), said, "These are the troops we’re talking about."

Now I am all for so-called ‘free speech’, but surely such remarks, especially from someone in Pelosi’s position, must amount to outright sedition and treason. This from a woman who voted in support for the war – when it suited her political convenience!  Sadly, this behaviour has to be expected from today’s Democrat Party, they have sacrificed any pretense of honesty or integrity – that they would betray their country for no other reason than spite of an individual, seems utterly reprehensible…"

white_flag.jpgI’m beginning to catch up on stuff now that I am back at ATW central and I really couldn’t let this one pass without comment! It seems that the naturally irresponsibility of the MODERN Democrat Party has won through, hence the stupendous decision in the House to vote for a withdrawal of US troops by September next year – thus meeting a key Al Qu’eda demand. Very impressive.

Now let me say this – there are Democrat supporters who visit this site and with whom I can find much commonality of thought and they strike me as honourable folks who want to do that which is right. But guys, the political leadership of your Party as exemplified by Pelosi is nothing less than uber-liberal moonbattery! The modern Democrat Party has no will to win a war – no guts for the fight – all it can do is carp and criticise and then – when push comes to shove – raise a white flag and declare this a triumph. One final thought; what message do you think this vote sends to the Islamofascists? Are they winning, or are we?
