Kill-adelphia: Yet again, city tops list of homicide rates

By Patrick Van Roy On December 31st, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Murders are up again this year in Philadelphia, and the city still has the highest homicide rate of the nation’s 10 most populous cities, according to stats provided by each city’s police department. At the same time, fewer murders are getting solved.

With a few days left in the year, the city’s homicide tally stood at 324 Wednesday, including the eight victims allegedly killed in previous years by West Philly abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Last year, 306 people were killed, and the year before, 302.

But despite the jump in homicides this year, city officials prefer to focus on the past. When they compare numbers, they go back to 2007, when murders in Philly were at the five-year high of 392. Looking at it that way, they get a 17 percent decrease in the murder rate from 2007 to 2011.

Police spokesman Lt. Raymond Evers said the department compares this year’s tally with 2007’s to see long-range trends. “It’s hard to get a trend between two years,” he said.

But John Coleman, shopping at the Uceta market yesterday, wasn’t buying the spin.

“They lyin’,” said Coleman, 25.

New York’s rate is 6.1, and even notorious Los Angeles’ is only 7.8, though rates for some smaller cities – like Detroit, New Orleans and St. Louis – are much worse than Philly.

Numbers aside, officials have no unexpected explanations for what’s driving the trends. Some observers point to demographics.

Black citizens comprised 84 percent of homicide victims from January to June 2011, according to police statistics. Evers said he expects that trend will remain consistent once numbers are crunched through December.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey laments the state’s lack of strong gun control. Firearms were used in nearly 82 percent of the city’s murders this year. Although shootings dropped more than 3 percent, more injuries ended in death, Ramsey said.

He makes this statement knowing NOT ONE murder was committed by a LEGAL GUN OWNER. Out of the solved murder cases ALL perpetrators had ILLEGALLY obtained Firearms, and the unsolved murders consist of a majority of drug related homicides. So as usual the answer to dealing with violent criminals is disarm Law Abiding Citizens.

“Greater Manchester Police is also working very hard to bring the family over to Manchester as soon as possible.

“For reasons beyond the family’s control, it is unlikely they will be able to do so until early next week so the force is putting plans in place to send officers to India to offer support.”

A Cup O’ Kindness

By Mahons On December 30th, 2011 at 5:16 pm

Fans of the Gregorian calendar such as myself will be celebrating New Years Day with some verses of Auld Lang Syne, meaningless resolutions and a little champagne this weekend.  To those of you who frequent theses pages, may you have a Happy New Year.

I am too old and sane to go out on Amatuer Night I (Amatuer Night II being St. Patrick’s Day) so I plan to stay near my sofa, fridge and fireplace with some friends.  I know people who are going to Times Square to freeze to death, but joining those revelers is not for me.  Standing around waiting for a ball to drop sounds too much like having a hernia, and frankly it is an experience I will glady pass up.

However, for entertainment value, if anyone wants to advise of their New Years Resolution to the greater ATW community, please feel free to offer same on this post.   We can then check back on this virtual time capsule a year from now to see if anyone has fulfilled their resolution.    For myself, I resolve to stop throwing rocks at whales.  See that I don’t.

Peace, Health and Prosperity to one and all.

Never let…

………….the facts ruin a good storyline.

The Daily Mail publishes a story regarding a house which is being built in the Cotswolds. Naturally, when a newspaper runs a story, you might think that it covers all the facts, as well as getting differing points of view, but there I go again, looking for the impossible.

Seems as thought this bloke has put in a a planning application for a Crafts centre and then modified the planning to include living quarters. The photos published in the Mail story do show a building with a bright white-painted exterior, complete with shiny white metal roof, completely out of character with the surrounding homes in the Cotswold village of Cowley, but what they do not show is the forthcoming Cotswold stone cladding, nor the plastic covering which protects the zinc roof until it is completed, when it will be stripped away from the roof.

Funny, that!

Interesting to read that Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president.

The runes seem to be running in Romney’s favour. Is this a good thing? He strikes me as the establishment figure and very un Tea Party and yet people like Ann Coulter are coming out to support his candidature. I don’t believe Ron Paul has a chance against him so it looks like a choice between him and Gingrich. Is this how US readers see it? I reckon that Gingrich carries too much baggage in one shape or another so that could mean that Mitt is the word.

You can always rely on Trade Unionists to warp reality!

Britain should brace itself for a growing wave of militancy among private sector workers who are fed up with pension changes and pay cuts, a union leader said yesterday.

In recent years, industrial action has been dominated by the public sector, with up to two million State workers walking out on 30 November over changes to their pensions.

But Brian Strutton, the moderate national secretary of the GMB, said yesterday the private sector has begun to stir from its apathy.

Mr Strutton said: ‘We detect a reawakening among our private sector members of their bargaining strength. ‘Members are beginning to realise if an employer is making a lot of money and is worried about its reputation, it is susceptible to being brought to a standstill.’ It would be a dramatic change for a country which has become used to strikes only taking place in the public sector.

Let’s deal with this kite flying, shall we?

For starters, the British Trade Unions represent around a mere 12% of the private sector. The VAST majority of Private Sector workers do no stand under the Union banner. The “reawakening” that Strutton “detects” is nonsense although you can detect the threat in his comment ” if an employer is making a lot of money and is worried about its reputation, it is susceptible to being brought to a standstill.” Or, in simple language, blackmail.

Trade Unions demonstrate a lamentable lack of common sense and instead pursue a reckless course which costs jobs, undermines the economy and confronts the democratically elected Government. Remember – these Trade Unions bankroll the Labour Party and they can be relied upon to systematically undermine our economy in the hope that this will damage the Coalition.

Chimp Off the Old Block – The Passing of Cheetah

By Mahons On December 28th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

It is with heavy heart that I read today of the passing of Cheetch at age 80 at his Florida primate santuary.  Cheetah had fallen on hard times since his salad days when he stared with Johnny Weissmuller in the 1930s and 1940’s in some of the Tarzan movies.  I am not sure he ever got over losing out on the part of Cornelius in Planet of the Apes to Roddy McDowell.

Cheetah was known of course for his rowdy ways:  drinking with Hemingway and Mighty Joe Young in Paris, giving the Wizard of Oz Flying Monkeys’ angel dust to Ken Kessey in the 1960s and of course the infamous Plaza Hotel incident a year ago when he and Charlie Sheen engaged in a feces throwing fight.

As many political junkies know Cheetah had been the subject of many right wing attacks for his outspoken opinions on the Scopes Trial, his feud with Ronald Reagan crony Bonzo, and class warfare comments regarding the Earl of Greystroke.  However, he had moved right in his old age and was considered by many to be a potential candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination this year, but bowed out claiming that there were too many candidates already who would split the less evolved vote in the party.   Plus he said he didn’t want to show up long-time friend Rick Perry in the debates.

Funeral arrangements are not yet set, but it is understood that Cheetah wanted a short eulogy and Tarzan is expected to speak briefly at the service (“Me Tarzan, you Jane” being his longest speech to date).   Pallbearers include Bubbles the Chimp, Marcel from Friends, Curious George, Clyde and Mike Nesmith.  Jane Porter, who left Tarzan for Cheetah in the 1970s shortly after it was revealed that “Boy” was their love child,  is expected to throw the traditional banana peels on the coffin.

As Cheetah used to say, there is no business like Monkey business.  We see 2011 take yet another one of the greats.   Goodnight, sweet primate.

A Review

By Patrick Van Roy On December 27th, 2011 at 11:14 pm

2011 was a Crappy year. In my personal world it has been a very hard one for my family. Dealing with Breast Cancer has taken it’s toll. Monica is doing great, and is cancer free. She still has a long way to go with reconstruction, but no chemo or devastating therapy. Wounds are healing well and spirits are high. In a mixed blessing I was laid off from the Airline industry, and was able to work for myself doing construction, remodeling, roofing, kitchens, etc etc. Yet it gave me time to be with Monica, take her where she needed to go, and support her.

The kids are old enough that they can do the majority of their homeschooling with minimal supervision. Even as the holidays got close, and people stopped spending on home improvements fate provided me a part time job selling Firearms. God has blessed us, and taken care of us, for this we give thanks. Just as we thank ALL of you for your prayers and well wishes.

Now enough of the stuff I find hard to speak of and onto issues we can all rant on. Since 9/11 there have been 54 Terror attacks inside the U.S., (there’s a fact you don’t hear discussed) 32 of those attacks were against our Military personnel here in the U.S. Yet when a crazed Muslim goes on a shooting spree on his Military base killing and wounding his fellow soldiers yelling Allah Akbar while he does it, the Obama administration classifies it as a work place violence incident. Talk about spin.

We have had the Department of Justice getting caught selling guns to Mexican drug dealers so that American guns can be found at crime scenes to justify stricter gun laws. I guess they thought only “regular” people would be killed by those guns, nobody important. Well after the second law enforcement officer was killed the ATF agents stopped just complaining internally and went to Congress and the public.

Eric Holder the Nations Top Cop has already been caught twice Lying Under Oath about the program, he has also refused to comply with Congressional subpoenas to turn over documents. He is about to testify again on this matter before Congress. His newest thing is he will turn over documents regarding Fast and Furious up to Feb. 4th 2011 (when the REAL cover up began). He says after that date Congress has no need of  any of the information they have subpoenaed.  He has been given an Ultimatum regarding this refusal A) Provide the committee with the law that allows him to defy a congressional  subpoena, or B) Face Charges of Contempt, and an official Indictment.

So far the only reason he has given is that he is Black, and because both he and the President are Black if you ask them about why they sold guns illegally to drug dealers that got cops killed, well your just a racist.

Now to the Marxist in Chief President Barry, the man who would be king. So far he has spent more money than Every Other President Combined including GW.  They say this fool can’t be beat in the upcoming election by any of the Republicans running against him. Well you may believe the American people are that stupid, I don’t.

The first thing he did was force against the will of the People a Mandatory Health System funded by taking 500 Billion from Medicare (stealing the funding from Senior Citizens Healthcare). He told Senior Citizens they would not get their checks if we didn’t raise the debt ceiling and give him 2 Trillion Dollars. Which he has already spent in less than six months and today asked for another 1.2 Trillion Dollars and another raise of the debt ceiling by the end of the week. I guess tomorrow he’ll say once again the seniors won’t get their checks if we don’t let him keep spending.

So far Obama’s “Solutions” have given us the Greatest Debt in History, a Depression worse than the one they used to call the Great Depression. 20 Million work age Americans have lost their jobs and are collecting unemployment, while another 20 million Americans who also lost their jobs, have reached the end of two years of unemployment insurance and are either working a minimum wage job, or are collecting welfare. More people in the United State are on food stamps than anyone had ever dreamed in their worst nightmare. They called last week a sign the economy was improving because only 375,000 new people lost their jobs and filed for unemployment for the first time. His latest scam is the payroll tax cut, it gives the average worker $40 a month more in his paycheck a month. They have had this cut going for a year and it has not helped the economy. What it has done is cut the ONLY funding to Social Security a system that as of today is 7 Trillions dollars in debt unable to meet it’s current obligations, but he can claim he has cut taxes by cutting the only supply of money that fund Grandmas check.

I can go on for another 1000 words listing the disasters this man has caused, sure he stepped into a nightmare caused by Frank & Dodd collapsing the world financial system via Fanny and Freddie. Sorry but after 3 years you can’t blame Bush anymore, not that it was ever his fault anyway. No this is Obama and the Democrats Dream Economy, a Nation on Welfare needing the Government to survive.

Even Ron Paul could beat this idiot.

2012 will be the year of the Circus between the upcoming election, and the end of the world next Christmas according to the Mayan’s it should at least not be a boring year. I’m sure all here will give a blow by blow as it passes.

Good Bye and Good Riddance 2011, Hello 2012…..
