The Great Pretender – Otto Von Habsburg

Otto Von Habsbrg passed away at the ripe old age of 98.  He was the last crown prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the pretender to the throne of the Emperor.  The throne itself was abolished in 1918, but he kept his hand in the game for decades while in exile.  He renounced the throne eventually and led an interesting life as a strong anti-Nazis and anti-Communist (sorry righties, he was also strongly pan-European).  The Nazis honored him by sentencing him death in absentia.  He is credited, quite fairly, with helping to speed the demise of the Iron Curtain.  A reminder to those who it was the work of a few and not many.   

His full name Franz Joseph Otto Robert Maria Anto Karl Max Heinrich Sixtus Xaviar Felix Renatus Ludwig Gaeta Pius Ignatius probably made him the happiest man on Earth when credit cards replaced checks.

many hands sometimes work

I have reminded ATW readers, (the British ones, that is,) of their inalienable right to write to their MPs on whatever matter is annoying/perturbing/amusing them at any time. Sometimes, most times, when you get a reply, it is usually a written form of a sleeping pill, as your MPs mostly have their minds made up for them by the Party machinery, and those who don’t are very much in the minority. However, occasionally, many people writing in to their MPs can have a cumulative effect, and this I believe is best illustrated by the announcement that Dominic Grieve, the Attorney General, has ordered that Contempt proceedings be initiated against the Sun and the Daily Mirror over their stories and treatment of Mr. Christopher Jefferies, who was questioned and completely cleared of any involvement in the brutal murder of Joanna Yeates.

I posted upon this subject, as well as writing to my own MP, Roberta Blackman-Wood; and I am led to believe that the pressure resultant from many people such as I was the prime mover in this attempt by the Attorney General to lay down some firm guidance to the MSM that they should be aware that the Law is there to protect the innocent, and that their reporting, especially when no-one has been charged with any crime, should remain strictly within the Law on Contempt. as in http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14024079

You have to love this,

(Reuters) – Smoke belching from Asia’s rapidly growing economies is largely responsible for a halt in global warming in the decade after 1998 because of sulphur’s cooling effect, even though greenhouse gas emissions soared, a U.S. study said on Monday.

Ok so the people that must be ready to drink the kool-aid and take a ride on the next comet to fly by, have really come up with a good one. To explain the ZERO change in planet temperatures over the last decade, the story is that the pollution from China’s new coal fired energy plants namely the sulfur dioxide from burning evil coal has saved us. Sulphur allows water drops or aerosols to form, creating hazy clouds which reflect sunlight back into space.

OK so Acid Rain stops global Warming, you got to love it. It gets even better, in the same report it states that 2010 was the hottest year ever, even though temperatures haven’t changed in 10 years, it states that when the Chicoms come to their senses and stop polluting by bringing a new coal fired plant on line every 6 hours. The sudden stopping will cause AGW to explode overnight, and we will all fry.

So the cult has been caught changing numbers, leaving numbers out, fudging ocean depth data, deleting data from monitoring stations that contradict the story they want to sell, conspiring via e-mail world wide so that they all tell the same story, and now saying acid rain is temporarily saving us from the damage caused by the same plants that are creating the problem. Now personally I think these people have smoked way to much pot, but the best part is our elected officials on both sides of the pond are convinced by these dope smokin hippie rejects.

I don’t know, we are all doomed !

I’m away from ATW central for most of the day to attend the Graduation of my son from Queen’s University. Ironically, my wife and I graduated 30 years ago to the week in the same subject, in the same place. Big moment so excuse me if I wax nostalgic. The only problem is that it is a miserable wet day outside with rain sweeping the country.

I read that” big families” claiming tens of thousands of pounds a year in welfare payments could escape the Government’s new ‘benefits cap’ for years under plans being considered by ministers.

Liberal Democrat sources said ‘transitional arrangements’ would provide extra cash to soften the impact of the flagship policy, which aims to cap the benefits a family can claim at £26,000 a year. A senior source said Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg was signed up to the benefits cap ‘going forward’ and was happy for it to apply to new claimants. But there is ‘an issue around large families already living in properties in London and the South East’, the source added.

Now, most of us know that it is very expensive to live in London and the South East of England so that begs the question who exactly are these “large families” in this area who seem determined to boost our population even though it seems economically impossible. Here’s a thought – might they be Islamic families perchance and if so, WHY do Lib-Dems seem determined to secure benefits for them at all costs? It is perfectly obvious that the liberal injection into Government is disastrous for our country and ensures that any vestige of authentic Conservatism is erased.

Statue of former US president Ronald Reagan

This is the statue of Ronald Reagan unveiled in London today, right outside the US embassy. The sad thing is that Lady Thatcher was too unwell to be there but here is what she said of him

“Ronald Reagan was a great president and a great man. A true leader for our times. He held clear principles and acted upon them with purpose. “Through his strength and his conviction he brought millions of people to freedom as the iron curtain came down. “It was a pleasure to be his colleague and his friend and I hope this statue will be a reminder to future generations of the debt we owe him.”

Reagan and Thatcher – they just do NOT make them like that anymore. That is our tragedy. I recall the loathing and hatred from the BBC towards Ronald Reagan. He was a simpleton, an idiot, a cowboy, a danger. In similar measure, they hated Thatcher and still attack her though she seems to be moving towards a reunion with Reagan, most sadly.

My forefathers fought  and died for freedom, for the idea that the sole reason government exists is to secure for the individual his god-given right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. And…they won!

Communism, socialism, collectivism, statism – whatever you wish to call it –  the 20th Century saw the end to kingly power but human nature marches on.  Men will always try to dominate and control other men, there will always be those who seek to accumulate and  centralize power and control. Individuals who value their freedom still must fight against those who seek to dominate and control.

In America, at least, thanks to our founding documents, government still exists to serve the individual  — an individual does not exist to serve a Government, even if said government claims to represent a “common good”  or a form of “social justice.”

In the meantime, Happy 4th of July!  God Bless America, long may she prosper.


Are the Good Times Really Over For Good?

But anytime Merle gives a warning, I’m gonna listen.

I’ll display the flag outside the house tomorrow, but I’ll not be waving it. We have problems, and we’ve made wrong turns, and we all need to think deeply on all of these things.

Yet, this land is my land, and there’s no place I’d rather be.

I read that one  of the main IRA suspects in the murder of Robert McCartney in March 2005 has been arrested following the stabbing of another man in the same area of Belfast.

The victim, said to be in his early 40s, was stabbed after he answered a call at his house in the Markets area at 9.30am. He is described as critically ill in hospital. According to locals, there was a party in the area on Friday night, which went on late into yesterday morning. There had also been trouble between men from the mainly Catholic Markets area and others from the mainly Protestant Short Strand area. There was, local people say, serious friction between former Provisional IRA members and dissident republicans in both areas.

The PSNI arrested the 38-year-old in the Markets area yesterday morning and were questioning him last night. The man arrested was believed locally to have delivered the fatal stab wound to Robert McCartney on the evening of January 31, 2005, after Mr McCartney and a friend were attacked by a mob of around 20 IRA men armed with knives and sewer rods. A total of 155 witnesses were questioned by police and 71, all members of Sinn Fein or the IRA, claimed they were in the pub toilets at the time. After the murder a special IRA unit cleaned forensic evidence

155 witnesses but nobody saw anything. And all forensics wiped clean. Ah for the golden days of the peace process as a man is beaten to death  by IRA scum and NOBODY sees anything and NOBODY is convicted of anything. And now, the alleged killer from 2005 strikes again.
