Right. Here’s your chance to test me.

For the next 30 mins I will be on-line and open to give a straight question (Whoops, is that homophobic?) to whatever question you ask of me!

Well folks, it’s that time of the year when I clock up one more year and so I am 21 again, and again, and a bit! Anyway, will be out for birthday tea so catch up later.

I know that you like to chat so here’s a thread to talk about whatever is bothering you most!

I’ll tell you what is bothering me – foggy cold weather that is almost a pea-souper!

As the New Year rolls in, I want to increase the number of contributors to ATW and in that regard I would like to announce that two of ATW’s longest-standing and much regarded stalwarts – Grizzly Mama aka Monica and of course The City Troll – will be posting here going forward. I’m sure you all know this former Philly-based pair and will give them a warm welcome. You can expect nice liberal wooly minded posts from them as we seek to provide that balance I hold so precious ..ahem!

Now, what I want to hear from is right-of-liberal UK commentators looking to join our crazed fest…..!

Hi all! Well, my travels are behind me and I’m back here at ATW central.

I worked out that I travelled almost 8000 miles in the past two days, from Oahu to LA, from San Francisco to London, from London to a snow bound Belfast! Can you imagine the size of my carbon footprint – wow! I bet even Al Gore might be impressed.

Anyway, we had a great time over in the US. My favourite moments were visiting Alcatraz island, visiting Pearl Harbor and standing on the Arizona memorial, whale-watching off Honolulu – and seeing my wife and kids swimming with Dolphins. Also caught a basketball game between the LA Lakers and the San Francisco Warriors – which had an exciting finish with the Warriors winning, to the home fans delight! The Hawaiian islands are a virtual paradise – Kauai was best of all – relatively underdeveloped and so green that no wonder Jurassic Park was filmed here.

Worst moment was arriving into Heathrow Airport at 6am on Friday morning. The Customs "queue" was little more than a cattle herd, with no indication that security was anything but random. Couldn’t help but notice how MANY of those arriving into Heathrow were adorned in Islamic fashion – you sure know when you get into Blighty these days. Most shocking of all was the news that Northern Ireland had been hit by heavy snow and when I eventually got back, my car was submerged in snow. Thank goodness it is a 4×4 with good wheel traction – I can only imagine how a Prius would have coped!

Arrived home in the dark – freezing! But after a good nights sleep, I am feeling fine and ready to take up the blogging cudgels again for 2008.

A big thank you to ALL of those fellow-writers who helped keep the site going in my absence – I really appreciate it.

I’ll be blogging some more later on today – time to put the world to right……!

It’s been 2500 posts from yours truly here on ATW over the past twelve months and it’s time I had a little break!

I’m off on a family holiday to California and Hawaii today – returning at the end of the first week in January 2008!

There are a few things to say before a hush descends on me.

First, I will do my best to drop in to say "Hi" during the next three weeks. I’m conscious that we have Christmas and the New Year beckoning, and I’ll be on Honolulu for both occasions, and I’d like to be able to wish you the compliments of the season closer to the time.

Second, I do want to thank you all for coming here and making ATW such a lively and passionate forum for debate over the past year. Some tend to agree with me, others vehemently take issue with me – but to you ALL a sincere thanks for making this a destination.

Finally, I would urge my fellow writers to try and perhaps blog a little more in my absence to keep the site alive. I wanted to publicly acknowledge the tremendous work they have all put in, and I also hope our newer contributors can also post as much as possible.

Do me a favour and try and get on in my absence. I know many of you hold strong opinions but so long as it doesn’t descend into any nastiness, then I’m happy. Daphne has kindly agreed to keep an eye on any necessary moderation that may be required, plus contribute  a little herself.

Now, that’s all from me – at least until I get to San Francisco so be good and I’ll be back to see y’all real soon!

God bless,

tangledpubnn0.jpgAs you know, the ATW ranks of writers are increasing in order to provide YOU, dear reader, with the best and most challenging political commentary.

In recent days we have had Jammie Wearing Fool, and Lao from south-East Asia joing us. Well it gives me great pleasure to introduce RadicalRon to you all!

Ron posts over on JWF and Ft Hard Knox, and will be cross-posting here on ATW.  I hope you will join me in giving Ron a warm ATW welcome!

Just a quick note, to say…

By ATWadmin On November 19th, 2007 at 5:27 am

…that I have decided to take a break (at least for the time being) from writing for ATW, and from blogging in general. No special reason; I just don’t feel the necessary motivation to post about current affairs, right now. I do want to say a big Thank You to David for having given me a ready-made platform on which to share my views, and I hope that some of my previous contributions have provided food for thought. I’m quite happy to roll over and make way for newer, sharper-minded contributors to inspire debate, and I’ll continue to post comments on ATW articles. Thanks, TT.

tangledpubnn0.jpgAs I said a few days ago, I am currently adding several new voices to ATW as we prepare to move on to global domination in 2008! With that in mind, I hope you will join me in welcoming Lao, an American Ex-Pat in South East Asia, who will shortly be posting here on ATW. I urge you to his visit his blog – some great posts and a nice reflective thoughtful style. Lao will add some fresh perspectives to ATW and I am sure he will enhance the appeal of our site.

Here’s an interesting insight into just how lunatic British immigration policy has become under ten years of Labour tyranny.

"An illegal immigrant has demanded to be flown home after saying he was fed up with British people – because they are "rude and unfriendly". Mokhtar Tabet, 30 – who has been given a home, food and free travel around London – claims his local council has breached his human rights by moving him to a place he does not like. He was refused asylum in 2004 and but is, unsurprisingly, still here. He said: "The council evicted me from my home in September and moved me to Streatham, which I don’t like. "The new place is small, and the kitchen closes at 9pm, so I can’t have anything to eat late at night. They have taken away my human rights."

Poor Mokhtar. But it gets worse. You see the local Council only pays his rent, his rates, and his utility bills. He is also given £32 a week in vouchers from Croydon Council to buy food with while he awaits deportation. And it’s not good enough for our angry Algerian.

"Croydon Council only gives me food vouchers, they won’t give me cash. I want the money. "I have nothing to buy new clothes with, I have to go to a refugee centre. But if there’s not anything nice there, you leave with nothing. "I want the council to give me a bigger flat and money instead of vouchers."

Now it’s worth enquiring as to why  Mokhtar came to the UK. Turns out he left Algeria in 2002 after being arrested for refusing to give up his home so the army could monitor terrorist activity in his town. He needed to find a country where terrorist activity was not monitored so closely so naturally the UK came to mind so over he came!

This is the state the UK has been reduced to by the feckless immigration policy pursued by our political elite. This Algerian should never have been allowed into the UK for starters and the fact that he has been the recipient of State Welfare, (but not enough for his high standards evidently) means that he should be put on the next plane back to Algeria where no doubt he can obtain the cash and benefits that even the UK cannot provide.
