Checks and Unbalances

By Mahons On June 15th, 2012 at 11:16 am

Egypt’s Supreme Court dissolves its legislature.  You say you want a revolution?  Who will restore order and stability?  What nasty Nasser is slouching towards Cairo to be born?

A stable Egypt is critical for what passes as stability in  the region.  Will we have a stable Egypt in a month?  In a year.  Discuss among yourselves.

The Falklands were liberated (and that is the word) 30 years ago when Argentina’s illegitimate invasion was foiled.  Over 200 servicemen from the UK military lost their lives and more than twice that number of the invaders.  The Falklands population was and is overwhelmingly in favor of the ties to the UK.  Argentina’s government’s attempt then (and now) to deflect domestic problems by fanning the flames should be condemned.  It is to the credit of successive British governments that they have maintained the commitment to the Falklands, a strong continuity of principle that deserves praise.  This is especially true considering the lukewarm support and even hinderance of other nations who should know better, including the U.S.  So here is to those who sacrificed their lives those many years ago.

Russia defends arms sales to Syria

Moscow forcefully rejected on Wednesday Hillary Clinton’s accusation that Russia was supplying Syria with helicopter gunships that could be used against civilians, as Syria announced it had “cleansed” the rebel town of Haffa of armed fighters.

Speaking in Tehran, Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, said Moscow was instead “completing contracts that were signed and paid for a long time ago. All of them are contracts for what are solely air defence systems.”

He said: “We do not supply Syria or anyone else with resources that are used in fighting peaceful demonstrators” – and, seeking to turn the tables on Mrs Clinton, added, “unlike the United States, which regularly supplies that region with such special equipment, including one such shipment [that] went to one of the Gulf countries recently, but for some reason the Americans consider this to be in order”.

A COMMERCIAL BREAK…

By David Vance On June 13th, 2012 at 7:25 pm

Right folks, well even veteran bloggers need a break and I’m off to la belle France tomorrow morning. As you may suspect, a certain newly elected President is seeking my views on how to get his country going the right way 😉  So, my posts will be few and far between but I will try and do what is possible! Naturally I hope you will all entertain yourselves in my absence, I will keep an eye on comments to make sure nothing inappropriate is posted on the site. I have packed my beret, my striped t-shirt and of course a garlic necklace, as I love tradition. Try and be nice to each other and remember WWDD. (What would David do) Once you have worked that out, do the opposite – that way all will be fine. Speak soon….

Ahh so nice to teach the children

Palestinian Puppet Show Teaches Kids: Replace Cigarettes With Machine Guns

Watch the video below. The full transcript can be seen here:

A Palestinian NGO [non-governmental organization], the Burj Luq-Luq Social Center Society organization, performed a puppet show for children in East Jerusalem to promote non-smoking. The educational message delivered by the puppets instructed children to replace cigarettes with machine guns:

Puppet: “I, and many other youth like me, think that cigarettes will help us to grow, to turn into men. Jerusalem doesn’t need men who hold cigarettes. It needs men who hold machine guns, not cigarettes.”

In addition to teaching children not to smoke, the puppet show glorified death and violence and educated children to see Jews as “enemies” who kill the Palestinian youth of Jerusalem:

Puppet: “I wanted to stand before the audience and sing to Jerusalem, which is being kept from us. Jerusalem, whose youth are being killed by the Jews, to sing and to say:

Jerusalem, we are coming, Jerusalem, the time of death has arrived.
Jerusalem, we will not surrender to the enemies or be humiliated.”

All paid for by Money from the UN and UNICEF

LOL…. The sound of Arrogance

“The good news is, the American people generally agree with our vision,” President Obama said at the fundraiser, according to the pool report. “If you just put in front of them, issue after issue and you present the Democratic approach and the Republican approach, we win. The challenge is because folks are still hurting right now, the other side feels that its enough for them to just sit back and say, ‘Things aren’t as good as they should be and it’s Obama’s fault.’ And, you can pretty much put their campaign on, on a tweet and have some characters to spare.”

China Laughs at the E.U.

China ready to impound EU planes in CO2 dispute

(Reuters) – China will take swift counter-measures that could include impounding European aircraft if the EU punishes Chinese airlines for not complying with its scheme to curb carbon emissions, the China Air Transport Association said on Tuesday.

Chinese airlines, which have been told by Beijing not to comply with the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme, refused to meet a March 31 deadline for submitting carbon emissions data.

A new stand-off looms after EU Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard said the carriers would have until the end of this week to submit their data or face enforcement action.

“Chinese airlines are unanimous on this. We won’t provide the data,” Wei Zhenzhong, secretary general of the China Air Transport Association, said on the sidelines of an International Air Transport Association (IATA) meeting in Beijing.

EU member states can fine airlines for non-compliance or carry out other reprisals including impounding aircraft.

“We would not like to see a situation of ‘you hold up my planes and I hold yours’,” Wei said.

Ahh the E.U.s attempt to continue to exert power that A) they don’t have, and B) are trying to exert their non existant power with restrictions and taxes based on a fairy tale are being laughed at by the Chinese, the Russians, and the U.S. What will the EU do? Boo Hoo.

US: Russia sending Syria attack helicopters

By BRADLEY KLAPPER
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Obama administration said Tuesday that Russia is sending attack helicopters to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime and warned that the Arab country’s 15-month conflict could become even deadlier.

Diplomatic hopes have rested on Washington and Moscow agreeing on a transition plan that would end the 40-year Assad regime.

Russia and Syria have a longstanding military relationship and Syria hosts Russia’s only naval base on the Mediterranean Sea. But in light of the brutal violence, the U.S. has repeatedly demanded that any further deliveries of weaponry be halted. Russian military support in the form of materiel as advanced as attack helicopters would deal a serious blow to efforts to starve the Syrian army of supplies.

EGOS ON STILTS…

By David Vance On June 12th, 2012 at 8:27 am

Had to laugh at the news that the NI Assembly is debating a motion later calling for the government to press the UN for a human rights-compliant Arms Trade Treaty.

Final negotiations on the treaty are to take place at the UN next month. The Assembly motion urges the government to insist that arms sales not be authorised where there is a substantial risk they will lead to serious human rights violations. It is being backed by Amnesty International and WAVE Trauma Centre.

The irony of an Assembly which contains within its ranks the IRA’s political proxies in Sinn Fein should not pass unmentioned. When the Provos were slaughtering INNOCENTS using illegal arms – where were the pious Amnesty International then? Violating the Human Rights of more than 1700 of our fellow citizens raised barely a murmur from the lefties in AI. Furthermore, the self importance of this little jumped up collective at Stormont is risible. Maybe rather than posture on issues that they have NO control over whatsoever, they could focus on more mundane things – like helping business create employment for people? Or is that too radical?
