3414 in 365

By ATWadmin On December 31st, 2008 at 1:10 pm

And so, we approach the end of 2008!

365 days will have passed and what a lot has happened!

We have seen globalised economic meltdown and the demise of some of major companies that have become household words. Like dirt. We have seen a new US President elected, and we have seen a Republican Party in search of its identity. In the UK we have witnessed Gordon Brown, the man who merrily presided over economic collapse, claim that only he can now save us! In Northern Ireland we have watched Ian Paisley exit the political stage and the marriage of IRA/Sinn Fein/DUP grow closer as Peter and Martin’s partnership of evil cements.

2008 was also the year that my first book was published and I am proud that I have managed to sell a few thousand copies of “Unionism Decayed.” It may not have been an international bestseller (!) but I put my soul into the writing of it and have learned many valuable lessons on what to do, and what NOT to do! Next year will see a new book from me, it will a comprehensive n exposure of BBC bias and I start the writing of it tomorrow. I feel I have many more books in me, God willing.

Here on ATW in 2008, there have been a remarkable 3414 posts, including this one. That’s quite an output, more than most blogs I fancy! I care nothing for all this “Best blog of the Year” trivia that seems to occupy some – all that counts to me is that you enjoy what we do here. Simple. I never ask for you to agree with me, but I am thankful you read me. I need to also thank all those writers who contribute here on ATW -along with those who have since moved on. Above all , I would like to thank the many who visit so regularly! Without YOU, this blog would not exist. I also should thank those generous souls who have hit the hat-tip button this year, your financial patronage is much appreciated by me.

It’s been a real breeze writing on ATW in 2008 and I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have composing it!

2009 will bring a fresh set of challenges politically, locally, nationally and internationally and we shall assuredly debate them here in our usual style!

You are all a great gang and I would like to finish 2008 by wishing you and yours a happy and peaceful New Year.

Well, that’s it from me for 2008.  I’m off to Edinburgh in the morning to spend a few days up there celebrating Hogmanay.  Can’t wait for the party tomorrow night in Princes Gardens.  Stay safe for New Year.  Ciao!

tangled%20web_edited.jpgIt’s been an interesting year here on ATW with some of our most regular patrons leaving the site and others returning. I was sorry to read that my good friend Troll has taken a leave of absence but I sincerely hope he reflects on this and returns. I always value his strong and righteous opinions and would suggest the words of Ulysses S Grant to him – “Never call a retreat”. If others take issue with him, so what? In recent times, other ATW stalwarts such as Daphne and Alison have faded from the scene. I also miss their contributions and energy.ATW regular Tom Tyler has taken some time out to help restore his well-being and I look forward to welcoming him back in 2009. In contrast, Andrew McCann and Mike Cunningham have recently returned to the fray with a vengeance!

The nature of this site means that I think there is quite a decent bond between us all and it does sadden me when people leave. I would prefer that they stay but I take the sangune view that the door is always left open and so friends that exit can always come back. But in the meantime, and you can all take this as a declaration of intent, I will still be here – at the centre of this tanged web. The site prepares for a New Year and a whole new set of political issues to debate. I find that exciting and since we have such a good gang of daily visitors, I am sure it will prove entertaining, maybe even illuminating!

Sometimes I do struggle to find the time to write here, and simultaneously keep the output over on Biased BBC going and that’s where I really appreciate the great work of Pete Moore, Patty, Mahons, Andrew, Troll/Grizzly Mama and all. My hat tips to you all.

Next year, I also intend to publish a new book which I will start work on in January. It’s an exposure of the political bias that runs through the BBC and I want it to be a comprehensive indictment of the UK State Broadcaster. I will keep you all informed of progress but come hell or high water (and God willing) 2009 will see another book from me. I suppose I am a rare beast in that I love writing and am driven to write ever better.

Want to thank you, dear reader, for keeping coming back here to read what we have to say. I know some of you take issue with me but mostly this is expressed in a civil manner and so I am more than happy for your patronage. The site’s traffic has been growing and I hope more will come here and discover the wonders of the Web!

Hi all! Back from my London travels and playing catch here. Can I offer a sincere word of thanks to my fellow writers Andrew, Troll/Grizzly Mama, Pete Moore and Mike Cunningham for keeping fresh material posted in my absence. I would like to single out Mike in particular for his contributions as I know that he has been unwell in recent times and his return to form is most welcome.

Please excuse the brevity of the posts today but I am just about to catch a carbon-emitting flight to London and will be off-line until tomorrow night. Hope you all behave yourselves in my absence and I will catch up with you then! Be good!!

Well, here we are on the 1st December having soldiered, sometimes staggered through 2008! and now there is but one month left before a New Year beckons us all.

December is a good time to look back over the old year as well as looking forward to the New Year. ATW site traffic has been growing across 2008 and November showed some very healthy traffic, for which I thank you all. This is a labour of love somedays, others it is a deliberate and grim assault on  that presented as conventional political thought.  I also know a lot of sites out there link to us and that number has grown all year and again I do appreciate that. I like the fact that quite a few of those that link are themselves “take-no-prisoner” sites and that appeals to me since I see ATW in a league of one, a determined awkward squad that owes nothing to no-one and everything to speaking truthfully – whether people like it or not.

Later this month the ATW site will get an overdue freshen up and I hope you will like it but on our fundamentals, there will be no change, no chance!

Well here I am in a freezing London, trying  to catch a few early morning minutes to provide you with some material for comment today. I wanted to say that I really do appreciate the contributions from all my fellow writers here as it does ease the strain I feel from time to time in trying to keep this site going even as my free time gets squeezed with the pressures of business. I was just thinking to myself yesterday that we really ought to have a montly guest blog from any of our commentariat with something to say so if you are reading this and think ATW is missing a key topic, why not write up your post, email it to me, and I will post one each month going forward. Naturally, I will review the content but I do TRY to be balanced so just as long as it is pro-Israel, anti-IRA, Iran-attacking, pro small government then there should be no problems getting published! Write now or forever hold your piece.

Wow, has a year and more gone since I last spoke to you all? Indeed it has.  So much has gone on in that time.  Some of you will know that I now occupy a managerial role in my profession and have staff answerable to me (the poor swines!!).  Before I being in earnest next week, I wanted to give you a bit of an insight into how things will be different this time around.

My passion is, was, and always will be the Union of the United Kingdom.  However, my focus will be less on Northern Ireland.  Why?  Because nobody watching the events of the proud soldiers of the Royal Irish Regiment parading through Belfast on the 2nd November, whilst the huddled masses of the Falls Road Appreciation Society for Pissants congregated dolefully close to the same hotel so many of them tried to raze over thirty years, can be under any illusion about how military and sovereign legitimacy is embodied in the Province.  Unionism as a political creed may be in some disarray; the inclusion of the Provos in government is still gut-wrenching.  That said, there are many differences between the creed of Unionism and the reality of the Union.  Countries on the verge of abandoning part of their territory don’t spend millions of pounds building the second largest and second most important facility for State Intelligence in  that same territory.  Let’s take away the rhetoric of party propaganda and look at the bigger picture.  No, if anything, the greatest threat to the Union comes from Scottish nationalism: a fact which the Pyrrhic by-election win in Glenrothes did nothing to stymie.  Thus, I will be concentrating on the SNP in many of the debates on the future of the UK.

I also will return to the issue of mass immigration.  Since I last posted on ATW, the population of the UK has swollen by another quarter of a million people – all little bricks in Labour’s vast Lego set of demographic manipulation and indigenous erosion.  The frequency of Muslim women in facial veils (Niqabs) is set to become a common target of my ire.  It always amazes me how veiled Muslims often have the most children accompanying them when you see them in the street.  If only they were as keen to conceal abdominal orifices as they are facial ones!!

Then they are the feckless, the indolent, the pig-ignorant, and the self-indulgent underclass who seem to grow in number.  They include those not averse to matching Islamic levels of fecundity in the full expectation that the Welfare State (and thus you and I) will continue to keep them and their junior artful dodgers in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

As David has said I won’t be able to post with anything like the frequency of the past.  I, unlike teachers, social workers, green campaigners, and Labour voters in general, actually have to work for a living.  Nevertheless, sit back and enjoy the show.

Ta ta till next week.

Long time ATW readers will know that Andrew McCann was my co-blogger going back to the early days of this site. Over the years ATW has developed and we now have a rich tapestry of those who contribute. Andrew felt obliged to drop out of regular blogging due to work commitments a while back but I can now announce that next week will see… the return of Andrew McCann to ATW.

He will blog less frequently that before and on a broader range of topics, but I hope you will join with me in wishing him every best wish for his new tenure on the site. I believe Andrew’s first posts will appear early next week. I have encouraged Andrew to keep his comment threads open so you all can comment and debate but I want to make it clear even at this point that I will moderate any ad hominem abuse. Andrew has strong views, as I am sure you have also, but it’s best these are all  expressed in a polite as possible manner so the site continues to attract more and more readers.

So, Andrew, the stage is yours and I give you a warm welcome back, amigo!

Just under 2 and half hours before the scheduled talk blog radio goes on air. Hope you will all pick up the phone and call in. Just dial (347) 884-9695 if in the States or 001 347 884 9695 if dialing from outside the States. Calls cost a pittance. We will be on air at 9pm GMT – those in the colonies may work out their relevant time zone. I have 45 minutes of airtime to fill so hope you will give me a call – it’s been a while since I ran one of these so forgive me in advance if you are either put on hold or randomly disconnected.

Here is the planned format. I will have a brief five minutes intro after which the show is all yours! When you call in, all I see is your number so I have no idea who you are. So please introduce yourself using whatever name you want – it’s fine by me.

So much to explore….and it’s all starting at 9pm GMT!
