Check out my Internet Radio!

By Phantom On May 25th, 2011 at 9:34 pm

I’d been hearing about these things for a few years. A couple of weeks ago, I bit the bullet, and bought a Logitech ” Squeezebox ” internet radio.

This ” internet radio ” is a radio that doesn’t pick up stations the normal way. It picks them up in streams from the internet via an Ethernet physical connection or via your Wi-Fi signal.

With internet radio, you are no longer limited to what is likely a lame selection of local stations. Almost every ” over the air ” radio station puts their signal on the internet now without charge. So you now can listen only to the good stations, no matter where on earth they’re located.

I’ve played around with internet radio for maybe ten years, via the computer. But the advantage of having a dedicated ” internet radio ” is that it works even when the computer is off, at any location in the house, with a very good quality audio signal.

I recommend this device – especially if you want to get a get a broader music selection than your crummy local station offers, or someone who wants to follow the news, especially the news from another part of the world.

It’s really easy to set up and use – and makes a great present for an older relative who wants to hear the sounds of the ” old country ”

There are six preset stations. My current selections:

  • RTE One, Dublin.  Quality talk on Irish and other topics, good music. Last night, they had Elvis Costello on live spinning songs on the occasion of Bob Dylan’s 70th Birthday
  • BBC LW- the gold standard for international news reporting on radio.
  • Deutsche Welle News, Germany- another news perspective
  • WFUV New York- one of America’s many good college radio stations. The only problem is that their signal does not properly travel from the Bronx to Brooklyn. Well, now it does.
  • KPOA Hawaii – For my fix of Hawaiian music.
  • WWOZ New Orleans – I like New Orleans jazz, and I now get it live from New Orleans at will.

I recommend this product, which is available on Amazon or in quality electronics stores.

Coming to a Theater Near You – Another Summer Disaster Movie

By 33230715130361 On May 25th, 2011 at 3:04 pm

We Americans love our disaster movies.  Volcanoes, Tsunamis, Tornadoes, Earthquakes, Fire and Sharks.  We consider it on of the blessings of our great land that our movie theaters screen these great epic blockbusters every summer.  And now comes the news (broken here by Troll – ATW’s  Roger Ebert) that this June will see the release of Sarah Palin’s “The Undefeated”, a movie dealing with her political career that may be the greatest disaster film of all.

Cynics and other people laboring under the burden of reality may point out that the last time she ran for office she was not exactly undefeated.  But those cynics miss the point!   Just like the California Minister who predicted the Rapture would occur last weekend, everyone is entitled to a do over (he is now saying October 21 in case anyone wants to schedule their vacation plans accordingly).

This movie will roll away the political stone and reveal the second coming of The Real Housewife of Wasilla.   We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, it will be a rollercoaster of emotions.  Starring of course Sarah Palin and her family (who she is shielding from lamestream media attention by putting them in a movie).    The Undefeated is a great title, but better than Rebirth of a Nation, Citizen Palin, The Voters Shrugged or From Here To Maternity?

God Bless America and God Bless Sarah Palin for showing that 15 minutes of fame can be stretched into forever.

Here She Comes

Palin’s Secret Weapon: New Film to Premiere in June

The Appropriate background of JAWS should be playing

Shortly after Republicans swept last November to a historic victory in which Sarah Palin was credited with playing a central role, the former Alaska governor pulled aside her close aide, Rebecca Mansour, to discuss a hush-hush assignment: Reach out to conservative filmmaker Stephen K. Bannon with a request. Ask him if he would make a series of videos extolling Palin’s governorship and laying to rest lingering questions about her controversial decision to resign from office with a year-and-a-half left in her first term. It was this abdication, Palin knew, that had made her damaged goods in the eyes of some Republicans who once were eager to get behind her potential 2012 presidential campaign.

The response was more positive than Palin could have hoped for. He’d make a feature-length movie, Bannon told Mansour, and he insisted upon taking complete control and financing it himself — to the tune of $1 million.

The fruits of that initial conversation are now complete. The result is a two-hour-long, sweeping epic, a rough cut of which Bannon screened privately for Sarah and Todd Palin last Wednesday in Arizona, where Alaska’s most famous couple has been rumored to have purchased a new home. When it premieres in Iowa next month, the film is poised to serve as a galvanizing prelude to Palin’s prospective presidential campaign — an unconventional reintroduction to the nation that she and her political team have spent months eagerly anticipating, even as Beltway Republicans have largely concluded that she won’t run.

Obama Proves He Hates America By Visiting Oldest Foe

By 33230715130361 On May 24th, 2011 at 8:55 pm

We lost over 20,ooo patriots in the American Revolution and now just a just over a couple of centuries later President Obama demonstrates his true hatred of America by his visit to England.

Why he is evening staying at Buckingham Palace!  I suspect tea will be offered.  What would the original Tea Party members say to that betrayal?

I always knew he was a red, I never thought he was a redcoat.  What a great insult to our troops at Bunker Hill, Lexington & Concord, Saratoga, White Plains, Brooklyn and Yorktown.

Clearly he is meeting with the Brits to see how he can make Obamacare more like the NHS, to apologize for our driving on the wrong side of the road, and to see if all of our celebrities can be given  titles of nobility like Lady Gaga, Queen Latifah and Prince.

Dolly Madison must be rolling over in her grave.  Doesn’t Obama know that the British burned the White House during the War of 1812?  Or don’t they teach American History at Harvard?  Why would he appease such terrorist acts?  It is an unspeakable outrage.  All true Americans should be white with anger, or should I say all white Americans should truly be angry.  Either way, you know what I mean damn it.  Didn’t Marx do his writing in London -no wonder he wants to go there.

Indeed, do you really think the Brits have gone away?  Ha!  Think of the assaults on New York City every time an Andrew Lloyd Weber production is visited upon Broadway.  Oh the humanity.  No talents like Russell Brand, a human chia pet with a drug history, all of a sudden being visited upon our popular movies.   I don’t think I have to even mention Fergie to this readership.  Who lets her in this country to go on Oprah?  Have we no Department of Homeland Security?

Obama will pay for this anti-American anglophilia come this next election.

When A Keystone Canary Sings

By Patrick Van Roy On May 24th, 2011 at 6:57 pm

When A Keystone Canary Sings, you should listen. I come from the Keystone State, it’s the most beautiful and varied state in the U.S.

Pennsylvania is where everything started for this country, we are the Nations Keystone. My state offers everything you could want, we have Coal, Lumber, Agriculture, Dairy, Oil, A Large Port, Railroad and Steel, hell we even have a Diamond Mine. We have a long History of not only Industrial Diversity, but human diversity. From the Amish to the Industrialist, and every group in between. Pennsylvania was the End of the Line and the Goal of Freedom of the Underground Railroad.

All Freedom and the hard work to earn it began in Philadelphia. The State has produced every kind of industry and every type of person that is needed to do the hard work to lead a good Free Life. The hardest workers in my State delve deep into the Earth for that rich black rock Coal. It’s hard and dangerous work. In the early days of Mining in my state there were a lot of explosions and fires.  Gas would build in the mines and being that it was orderless and colorless you knew the danger was building but if you didn’t pay attention you would die. Many lives were lost. One mine that exploded and caught fire has been burning for over 60yrs and will burn for hundreds more.

To save the lives of our miners we gave them Keystone Canaries, strong song birds to hang in the mines. The birds would sing all day and night, if the birds stopped singing you were dead. Some miners liked the birds, and always listened to them, others would get annoyed at constantly hearing them, so they shut them out. Since they would ignore the birds they wouldn’t notice that the danger had reached an explosive level and because you didn’t listen when they sung you didn’t notice when they died, that’s when what killed them kills you.

Much like the Jews and the Arabs don’t you think? The Jews are the Canaries in the Coal Mine of the Middle East, and a lot of people get annoyed hearing them sing, constantly over and over about the holocaust and evil in the world. Just like the canary they are ignored and shut out, and just like in the mine once they are killed by the danger it to will be to late for the rest of us.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a Keystone Canary, who a person is is formed in their teenage years. The environment you are raised in influences you to be the person you are as an adult. Bibi spent those years in Philly, and the mark of those days shine in him today. He is steadfast, loyal, straight talking and hard as Pennsylvania Steel.

Truly one the greatest politicians of our day. Today he sung before a joint session of our government, both houses of Congress and the Administrative Branch. HERE is the speech he gave. What he said needs to heard, less we all wind up dead in an explosion.

Not Just in Kansas

By 33230715130361 On May 23rd, 2011 at 9:06 pm

Some terrible news out of Missouri where over 100 people (and counting) have been killed by a violent tornado.  Although tornandos occur on nearly every continent, the vast majority occur in the United States.  Do yourself a favor and don’t go chasing them.  I suppose I’ve been conscious and concerned about them since I first saw  the Wizard of Oz.  I’ve seen their path of destruction which looks like the result of a bombing run.  There are a lot of myths about them (open the windows of a house to relieve pressure we’ve been told, which may actually might make things worse).  They are damned dangerous and destructive and another example of our best plans often being no match for the fact that we live on top of a planet.

Obama Drives Into A Ditch

By Patty On May 23rd, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Not actually “a ditch” per se….while visiting Dublin today, President Obama’s monster motorcade  got stuck ; one of the vehicles was too big to get over a hump…or something.

Remember when Obama told Republicans to sit in the back?   Time for  President Obama and the Dems to move over and let someone else drive for a change. …metaphorically speaking, of course.

Lies with Wings

By Patty On May 23rd, 2011 at 5:46 pm

A reporter named Sherman of the New York magazine recently reported that SOMEONE thinks… that Roger Ailes of FOX News thinks… that Palin is stupid, an idiot.

Huffington Post has picked up the article amplifying the meme with a headline that pretends to quote Ailes: Ailes thinks Palin is ‘Stupid. ‘ Roger Ailes said no such thing but Huffington Post is not aiming for accuracy, just smear.

Politico also picks up Sherman’s article and also leads with a made-up Ailes’ quote: Roger Ailes ‘thinks Palin is an idiot.’ This kind of “news” is misleading and dishonest, and unfortunately it appears to be a Left wing journalism routine.

Remember the journolist scandal where 400 liberal reporters discussed the impact of news on politics and decided as a group on preferred angles to take on timely news items?

This echo/distortion technique was enthusiastically embraced during the Tea Party rally at the capitol, where Democrat Congressmen lied about racial slurs and then the Left wing news outlets reported the lies as fact.

If you’re unfamiliar with this scandal, here is a good summary with new updates, and the apt citation of  Mark Twain’s famous adage: “ A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”

Lies with wings, such is the state of much of our journalism today.

Coming Back In The Springtime – The President Visits Ireland

By 33230715130361 On May 23rd, 2011 at 4:48 pm

It was J.F.K. on his visit to Ireland in 1963 who enjoyed it so much that he promised to return in the Springtime.  As we know from events that November, he never got the chance.

President Obama has touched down in Ireland for a brief springtime visit, and the warmth of the reception demonstrates the ties that bind the people of the two nations, with different histories but common affection.  I am glad he got out to Moneygall to meet a distant relation (though I am sure some wit will call it “Nomoneygall” given the economic situation).   A lot of the trip is simple – touching political bases and diplomatic protocols.   But that doesn’t diminish the point – to recognize that there is a tough road ahead, but to also recall there are tough roads behind.

I hope he enjoys his time there and gets the chance to return again some day.  Ireland tends to draw even the brief visitor back.

Be Warned!!!

By Mike Cunningham On May 23rd, 2011 at 8:12 am

Hysterical messages and calls for help have been received by this writer from wide-spread parts of England. A terrible virus has been spotted in at least two locations, and it has been confirmed that this is indeed an airborne virus, from which there is no cure! The implications are both terrible and terrifying!

Two messages have filtered out of the mass of communications received by an ordinary phone, and we can now show both messages, and also the true state of the disfigurations which the only known sufferer has sustained!

A new virus has been seen in Durham.
Unconfirmed reports says there is a severe rash that looks like dribbling chocolate ice cream! Under no circumstances are you to approach the subject in the early stages of infection due to requests for second helping!!!

Too late; infection already reached outskirts of London , resultant effect is victim now demanding “ice criim” & “treet” followed by severe licking disease and finally resultant virus .

containment has already failed**********
