France’s riot police have complained about being “treated like children” following a new ban on drinking alcohol while on duty.

The CRS (Republican Security Companies), which made its name quelling student demonstrators during nationwide disturbances in 1968, has always enjoyed a glass of beer or wine with its meals. However, following photos of riot police drinking bottles of beer during Paris street protest, police chiefs have decided to put an end to the tradition. They were wearing body armour and carrying weapons as they sipped from beer and wine bottles. Some were also smoking. While British police are strictly barred from drinking on duty, the French have traditionally been allowed 25cl of wine or a small beer with their main meal of the day. It was normally served on an official tray and sometimes eaten in full view of the public, often outside riot-control vans.

French enlightenment or backwardness?

Disturbing to read that some of our students face a £50,000 bill for a three-year degree from next year because of increased tuition fees and the rising cost of living.

Current undergraduates pay £31,373 at an elite Russell Group university, which will increase by 55 per cent to an average £48,503 in 2012.

So, those partaking of such education will leave their University with a HUGE lifelong debt whilst facing into the reality that graduates command less and less of a salary premium. What a waste.

Its not daft, it is the Law

Coroner expresses ‘surprise’ at doctor being called out to verify death of headless man!

I would be expressing surprise at the Coroner’s remarks. If he doesn’t know that a qualified medical person must, by law, determine whether a person’s life has been extinguished, headless or not, she shouldn’t be a bloody Coroner!

Amazing price hike!

“Phoenix Gas is to increase its prices by 39%, with the company blaming the rise on wholesale fuel costs. The price increase begins on 1 May and will apply to Phoenix Supply domestic and small business customers in the greater Belfast and Larne areas. The Utility Regulator chief executive Shane Lynch said he was conscious of the impact on household budgets in NI.

This level of increase is MASSIVE and will have a mega impact on those with least resource. Not sure why it is just greater Belfast and Larne that is going to suffer. The question is – what to do? Consumers will re-allocate resource, of course. Moving into warmer weather may help offset but as someone who WILL be directly affected by this, it only adds cost to business, to households and constitutes a real problem.

Wonder what you think of this?

“When police pulled a headless body from a river, you would not have thought it needed a doctor to confirm the person was dead. But there are rules and  procedures to follow. And a medic was duly called in to declare that the man in question was actually ‘life extinct’. Yesterday a coroner expressed surprise at why a doctor was summoned. ‘Even though there was no head, and the maggots, you had to call him in?’ Dr Shirley Radcliffe asked Det Insp Chuk Gwams. The officer replied: ‘Yes Ma’am. They are the experts, we are not.’

Has the Detective Inspector ANY common sense?

He Must Be Smoking Dope

President Barry is appointing a Task Force from the Justice Dept. to investigate why Gas Prices are high. This man needs to be asked to pee in a cup. I mean it, he has to be on Drugs. He wants to try to “root out” cases of fraud or manipulation in oil markets, due to the high price.

“We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American people for their own short-term gain,”  Obama, decrying such levels as yet another hardship “at a time when things were already pretty tough,” He said Holder was forming the Financial Fraud Enforcement Working Group.  The task force will focus some of its investigation on “the role of traders and speculators” in the oil-price surge, Obama said, and will include several Cabinet department officials, federal regulators and the National Association of Attorneys General.  He promised to “be vigilant in monitoring the oil and gas markets for any wrongdoing so that consumers can be confident they are not paying higher prices as a result of illegal activity.”

He also repeated once again that there was nothing he could do in the short term to lower prices. That statement is a Lie that he keeps repeating. There are quite a few things Barry could do that would effect prices. When Bush was President the day he said he was opening the Outer Continental Shelf to Drilling, the price of Oil droped $20 that day. When Obama took office there were 42 American Drilling platforms in the Gulf, today there are ZERO.  Add to that the report that came out last Thursday from the Congressional Research Service.

Senators James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Ranking Member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee, will release a report Thursday from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) showing that the United States’ combined recoverable natural gas, oil and coal endowment is the largest on Earth.

Russia comes in as a close second with recoverable fossil fuel reserves, followed Saudi Arabia, China, Iran and Canada.

According to the new report, an updated version of a 2009 paper, the United States’ resources are larger than Saudi Arabia, China and Canada, combined. The report estimates that the U.S. has 163 billion barrels of recoverable oil and enough natural gas to meet the country’s demand for 90 years.

The CRS report is being made public at a time when oil and gas prices are skyrocketing and the Department of Interior is embroiled in a battle with oil companies over offshore drilling. Last week, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Michael Bromwich, Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, appealed a court decision that ordered them to act on five pending drilling permits.

To add insult to injury he made these remarks at a renewable energy company where he was holding his 3rd Town Hall Meeting this week. Where he also repeated another lie.
Asked by a member of the audience about prospects for advancements in clean energy, Obama predicted that, with time, prices of now-expensive devices such as electric cars would come down.”Having a flat-screen TV used to be a big deal,” Obama said. But he said now such TVs are commonplace because prices have dropped so much. While acknowledging he doesn’t spend much time these days behind the wheel, Obama said, “I’ve been in one of these Chevy Volts. This is a nice car. It drives well.”He said when such vehicles become more affordable, “those of you out there driving that 8-mile-a-gallon SUV” should consider a purchase. Otherwise, by buying gasoline that likely came from imported oil, Americans “are putting money in the pockets of people who do not like us at all,” he said.
This Man is either an enemy of the state, or is on drugs. You Choose.

A very happy birthday to Her Majesty!

and lift carefully here!

Long time back, during my days at sea as an Engineer Officer, I got hit pretty badly by heat exhaustion one day. We were on board the S.S. Foyle, a P&O tanker at anchor in Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela, and I had been detailed to work inside the boiler casing, which was still pretty hot. I myself can’t remember too much about what happened in the engine room, but the junior engineer who was on watch at the same time said I came stumbling out of the boiler room, bleeding from a nasty gash on my head where he presumed I had fallen and hit my skull.

I hazily came to on deck, while draped across a set of railings, with the Second Engineer pouring water all over me to try and get my temperature down. The Second Deck officer, who was detailed to be the source of all things medical on board ship, decided that I needed hospital treatment, and the shore launch was summoned to make the five-mile run across the Lake to Maracaibo City.

Because I literally could not walk, being semi-comatose,(some nasty persons might state that I have never recovered!!) my fellow engineers decided that, in order to transfer me to the launch from the high deck of the tanker I neede to be strapped into a Robertson Stretcher, which, as can be seen, is equivalent to being wrapped in cling-film. Four officers lifted me up, the captain being by my left shoulder, and I began the long journey down the gangway from the ships deck to the waiting launch. Because the gangway was both at a steep slant, as well as being narrow, the four men carrying me had to hold the stretcher handles at an angle.

We were about quarter way down when the captain’s hand slipped, and he let go of the strap, and I was swinging, upside down, staring straight down into the waters of Lake Maracaibo, with my arms of course tied tightly inside the stretcher.

So I know exactly how she felt!

When Graft is Good

By Patrick Van Roy On April 21st, 2011 at 5:10 am

Except for JFK the Democrats as a group have no vision when it comes to Space Exploration. To put it as Walter Mondull put it, “not one dime for space, while one person needs welfare”  President Obama cut NASA to nothing, even re-tasked them to do outreach to the Muslim World.

Well for once I agree with political graft. Thank God for a small well placed group of Senators from both parties, against the wishes and public dismissal of the Constellation program by President Barry, the funding has been replaced specifically for a 130 Metric Ton Heavy Lift Vehicle, and the accompanying Man Space Capsule.  In the grand scheme of our over spending government budget the cost is small. Just a paltry $3 Billion.

Everything we use in our daily lives cell phones, computers, plastics, medical equipment, etc etc. The list is much to long to print. I did a partial list on my old blog once, and the partial list filled the space we use on this blog for 30 posts. The Space Program has been the only government program that has ever benefited mankind.

NASA has a budget of just over $18 Billion, $3 Billion has been specificly budgeted for The Heavy Lift program and has been worded that it can’t be spent on anything else.

For keeping the Dream Alive, and funding the only real technicle investment the Government has ever paid for, I would like to thank Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.), Republican Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf, Maryland Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison

UPDATE: Here is A PARTIAL LIST of some of the Space program benifits Actually take the time to glance through it, and also keep in perspective that the U.S. borrows $4 Billion a day.
