Morrissey has courted criticism after he reportedly compared the actions of fast food companies to the recent attacks in Norway. At least 76 people died last week in two separate attacks which were both orchestrated by far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik. Morrissey, a staunch vegetarian, made reference the massacre during a performance in at Stodola Club in Warsaw, Poland earlier this week, according to the Daily Mirror. Before playing The Smiths’ song ‘Meat is Murder’, he is quoted as saying: “We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. “Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Sh*t every day.”

Talk about a return to the scene of a previous crime. You will recall that back in 2009, 13 people lost their lives at Fort Hood. The killer, Nidal Malik Hasan, shouted “Allahu Akhbar” as he mowed them down. Naturally, Obama warned us not to rush to judgement – after all, there could have been so many motives. Turned out that there was only one motive – Jihad. Fast forward to today…

A U.S. military serviceman has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to attack Fort Hood nearly two years after a deadly shooting rampage at the base, Fox News has learned exclusively.

Pvt. Naser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody there.

The assassination of Ghulam Haidar Hamidi, Kandahar’s mayor, by a bomber with explosives hidden in his turban is the second use of the tactic in the city in a fortnight.

New NASA Data Blow Gaping Hole In Global Warming Alarmism

NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth’s atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted, reports a new study in the peer-reviewed science journal Remote Sensing. The study indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted, and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed.

Study co-author Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite, reports that real-world data from NASA’s Terra satellite contradict multiple assumptions fed into alarmist computer models.

“The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show,” Spencer said in a July 26 University of Alabama press release. “There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans.”

In addition to finding that far less heat is being trapped than alarmist computer models have predicted, the NASA satellite data show the atmosphere begins shedding heat into space long before United Nations computer models predicted.

The new findings are extremely important and should dramatically alter the global warming debate.

Scientists on all sides of the global warming debate are in general agreement about how much heat is being directly trapped by human emissions of carbon dioxide (the answer is “not much”). However, the single most important issue in the global warming debate is whether carbon dioxide emissions will indirectly trap far more heat by causing large increases in atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds. Alarmist computer models assume human carbon dioxide emissions indirectly cause substantial increases in atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds (each of which are very effective at trapping heat), but real-world data have long shown that carbon dioxide emissions are not causing as much atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds as the alarmist computer models have predicted.

The new NASA Terra satellite data are consistent with long-term NOAA and NASA data indicating atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds are not increasing in the manner predicted by alarmist computer models. The Terra satellite data also support data collected by NASA’s ERBS satellite showing far more longwave radiation (and thus, heat) escaped into space between 1985 and 1999 than alarmist computer models had predicted. Together, the NASA ERBS and Terra satellite data show that for 25 years and counting, carbon dioxide emissions have directly and indirectly trapped far less heat than alarmist computer models have predicted.

In short, the central premise of alarmist global warming theory is that carbon dioxide emissions should be directly and indirectly trapping a certain amount of heat in the earth’s atmosphere and preventing it from escaping into space. Real-world measurements, however, show far less heat is being trapped in the earth’s atmosphere than the alarmist computer models predict, and far more heat is escaping into space than the alarmist computer models predict.

When objective NASA satellite data, reported in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, show a “huge discrepancy” between alarmist climate models and real-world facts, climate scientists, the media and our elected officials would be wise to take notice. Whether or not they do so will tell us a great deal about how honest the purveyors of global warming alarmism truly are.

London and Washington are up to a strange Libyan business. Yesterday William Hague expelled all Libyan diplomatic staff from London, announcing: “The Prime Minister and I have decided that the United Kingdom recognises and will deal with the National Transitional Council as the sole governmental authority in Libya.”

The Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary put their heads together, decided to overturn diplomatic norms and have recognised a mysterious bunch of people with no mandate which controls less than half of the country. Rather queer, but they have gone even further than this. Washington has likewise recognised the rebels and, according to AFP, Hague “invited the council to appoint an ambassador”, following which Washington “said Wednesday it was reviewing a request by Libya’s rebels to open an embassy in Washington”.

Where was the debate on this? What are our governments up to?

I doubt we even know who is being invited to appoint an Ambassador to the Court of St James. Many reports suggest that al-Qaeda terrorists (or are they “fighters” now?) have joined with anti-Gaddafi forces. This Telegraph piece is typical, reporting that “WikiLeaks cables, independent analysts and reporters have all identified supporters of Islamist causes among the opposition to Col Gaddafi’s regime, particularly in the towns of Benghazi and Dernah.” There are many others on file, including reports of atrocities committed by our new chums. Sure, you be the government with your al-Qaeda pals, have Gadaffi’s cash and don’t forget to open diplomatic HQs in London and Washington.

Does anyone believe our governments have the slightest idea what they are meddling with or that they can contrive and control outcomes? I certainly don’t, but I do expect our young and unborn to be dealing with the effects in the decades to come.

Interested as I always have been in all things Engineering, I watched a documentary on the Discovery Channel entitled ‘Olympic Park Machines’.

It detailed the construction progress of the Swimming and diving area building, how the roof was designed and built, as well as the major work upon the steel works supporting the roof area of the main Stadium.

Two things struck me as I watched; the first was the fact that a lot of our cash is actually being spent in the workshops, fabrication yards and halls of Great Britain, and the second was how the old familiar ways of manhandling metal have changed with the advent of computerisation. The old style, with a man using a caliper device to draw out an arced cutting line to allow one tube to be welded to another has disappeared, and has been replaced by a hand tapping co-ordinates into a computer keyboard. An automated plasma-cutter then attaches itself to the tube, which is maybe three foot across, and slices through that inch-thick steel as though it was butter, leaving a joint surface which is fashioned to mate with the next piece with an almost inhuman precision.

As I once posted on a similar matter in a distinctly uncomplimentary manner, I wonder if they have perhaps upped their game a bit, or is it all down to the technology?
