It’s that inner totalitarian instinct that Bloomberg just cannot bring himself to resist  – but hey – it’s for your own good!

New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to be obscene Nanny Staters combat rising obesity.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March

Nanny Bloomberg and his apparatchiks know best.  First they came for the smokers…then they came for the soft drink consumers…

“On this day, 31st May 1972, 28-year-old Marcel James Doglay, married with 4 children and originally from the Seychelles, was killed by an IRA bomb which exploded inside the Springfield Road RUC station. The 30lb device went off without warning, blowing out 20 feet of a wall. The Belfast Telegraph reported: ‘as his body was being taken away in an ambulance, a crowd which gathered outside the police station cheered and jeered. This also happened after the 1st bomb attack a year ago, when Sgt. Michael Willets died’

Charming people.

Funny, or just Queer?

With all the subtlety of a rhinoceros, David Cameron climbed straight into a self-made fire with his words of approval for ‘Gay Marriage’.

With the news coming out of the woodwork regarding possible changes to the Law regarding Marriage so as to accommodate all his bent friends, I sometimes wonder if he hasn’t retained some of the less-fragrant habits from his boarding-school days, and is not only bending backwards, he is bending forwards as well!

Over here as well, unfortunately!

We here in these Dis-United British Isles have long been accustomed to ‘experts’ and other busy-bodies telling us what do eat, to drink, to wear, to drive etc., etc., because they, and they alone, seem to know what is going to be ‘good for us’.

We cannot smoke in bars, restaurants, offices, even bus-shelters because a bunch of well-funded clowns got a law passed which stops us from doing so because of the ‘perils’ of ‘second-hand smoke’! Don’t get me wrong, I used to smoke, heavily. But I stopped, on my own, and without any of the billion-pound anti-smoking products pushed by the NHS. I stopped because I wished to stop, because I benefited from not smoking, and incidentally because I saved a hell of a lot of cash by not buying cigarettes. But I would stress that it was my decision to stop, not because some Government-funded arsehole was insisting that I stop.

We are harried from morning to night by fools telling us what to do, whether it be eating the ‘wrong’ sort of food, or drinking incorrect quantities of alcohol. We already face the threat of the new Gestapo, the totally-politicised and thuggish British Police Service, ever eager to carry out their political masters’ wishes by crushing any dissent, except of course Muslim dissent. We face the days when the huge raft of anti-democratic Laws passed and active within the last fifteen years are already stifling free speech, in what is spoken, or written; and the day is fast approaching when what we think will probably be monitored as well!

And now of course the epidemic has reached the streets of New York, with yet another man who thinks he, and he alone, has the answer to the ‘Obesity’ problem apparently raging through the streets and homes of that wonderful city. God bless Mayor Bloomberg, because few others will!

The cost of illegal immigration to the UK taxpayer SOARS and all thanks to “human rights” parasites and porous borders..

Thousands of illegal immigrants have been caught by the authorities before being released ‘to protect their human rights’. One in six of those granted bail later absconds – meaning they must be caught a second time at huge cost to the taxpayer.

How does this work?

Detainees can  only continue to be held in immigration centres if there is a good chance of them being imminently deported. At the same time, others cite Article 8 of the Human Rights Act – which gives the right to a family and private life – meaning courts are forced to let them go pending appeals. There are also often problems in locating documents to identify where immigrants are from – making it impossible to send them home. In many cases, documents have been destroyed deliberately.

The truth is that we need stronger borders, rigorously enforced. Once these parasites come to our country, they will use ever lever available to them to stay here. The Human Rights Industry is part of their support system and until we withdraw from this we will continue to pay the astronomical price imposed by them.

I was on the BBC Nolan TV Show last night discussing the issue of whether (sic) Paramilitary flags should be taken down.  You can watch me here, I’m on at just over 15  minutes but you should listen to the nonsense that precedes me…I was glad that 80% of those who texted in to the show agreed with my clearly stated view that these rags are toxic

The Irish political class really are the little pets of the EU.

Today, ALL the major Irish political parties and the media establishment are calling on the Irish people to say YES to the European Fiscal Pact, which sets strict limits for countries’ budget deficits.  Sinn Fein/IRA have taken the opportunistic decision to oppose it, and will gain kudos for doing so.  Of course it does not matter a jot what the Irish people say, the EU will push on in whatever direction it wishes and those Irish politicians who love being on the Euro gravy train will do and say whatever is required of them to keep themselves aboard.

The terrible reality that no one in the Republic seems to want to face is that the ONLY salvation for the Irish economy comes when it LEAVES the Eurozone.  Denying this and praising the great Gods of Brussels shows the detachment from reality that has led to the demise of the Celtic Tiger is still very much alive.

Turns out that Greece was just the warm act for what will destroy the Eurozone..

Spain is facing the gravest danger since the end of the Franco dictatorship as the country is frozen out of global capital markets and slides towards an epic showdown with Europe. “We’re in a situation of total emergency, the worst crisis we have ever lived through” said ex-premier Felipe Gonzalez, the country’s elder statesman.

The warning came as the yields on Spanish 10-year bonds spiked to 6.7pc, pushing the “risk premium” over German Bunds to a post-euro high of 540 basis points. The IBEX index of stocks in Madrid fell 2.6pc, the lowest since the dotcom bust in 2003. Chaos over the €23.5bn rescue of crippled lender Bankia has led to the abrupt resignation of central bank governor Miguel Ángel Fernández Ordóñez, who testified to the senate that he had been muzzled to avoid enflaming events as confidence in the country drains away.

Spain is going to bring the Euro project crashing down, not Greece and the exposure of UK banks to Spanish debt is considerable. Still, NO bank is too big to fail so time to let the free market sort it all out.

Give this a listen, it’s very good.
