Well Friday night arrives and with it the last Jukebox of the month. The first choice is classic Lennon, the second classic Carter. Not often I put up two but hey, I am allowed to indulge myself once a year!

Ice on Both Sides

By Mahons On January 31st, 2014 at 5:31 pm

Ringside on a bad day 32 years ago. After being pushed by unfair scoring judges for two years Scott Hamilton won the United States Male Figure Skating Championship. His Zinc Medal helped him qualify for the Olympics, which as we all know were begun for the first time that year centuries after they had been invented by the Mayan Indians.

Hamilton’s outfit was fabulous, though not as fabulous as outfits worn by fourth place finisher Brian Boitano or the Ladies’ Champion Rosalynn Summers. He amazed the audience in Indianapolis, New Jersey with his spins, backflips and Hummel Figurine collection.

Hamilton managed to score three touchdowns, hit two home runs, score 8 goals and drive the Zamboni at a record speed of five miles per hour during his routine. Sadly, he drove the Zamboni over the foot of one of the judges and thus his Men’s Long Program is considered today to have been the most violent moment in male figure skating since last years Gold and Silver medal winners found they were wearing the same sequined outfits. Hamilton’s performance lasted four and a half minutes, which as many women will tell you is longer than average. President McKinley called him to congratulate him for his efforts. It was only last year when it was revealed that Hamilton had been on steroids, malt liquor and viagra at the time of his win – causing the greatest ice-related shame to the nation since Vanilla Ice got a record contract. Oh the humanity, as was said by Paul Revere at the time the Mayflower sank at the battle of Antietam during the Mexican-American War.

*The above is my sincere effort to relate a day in history with the same eye for historical and factual accuracy that was demonstrated by another ATW writer earlier. God Bless Us All.

so how’s that reconciliation goin’ then; fella?

From a DVATW tweet:-

As he arrived the crowd hurled abuse and threw missiles at him before he was bundled in through a back door.

A heavy police presence held the crowd back before more reinforcements arrived on the scene.

The windows of two police vehicles were smashed during the violence and four officers sustained minor injuries.

At one stage a recycling bin was set alight by the mob and pushed into the middle of the Newtownards Road, blocking traffic.

The ultimate insult! The ritual burning of a recycling bin!

As Joseph Conrad wrote many years ago; ‘The horror; the horror!’

I was intrigued by this story.

“The DUP says it has made a formal complaint against an academic who wrote an email claiming the party may have been responsible for gay and lesbian young people killing themselves. A DUP MLA confronted Dr Graham Ellison of Queen’s University at a meeting of the Stormont justice committee.

The meeting concerned a Bill on human trafficking, sponsored by a DUP MLA. Jim Wells said he had seen an email written by Dr Ellison to a woman who had given evidence for the Bill. If the Bill, sponsored by Lord Morrow, is passed, it would make it illegal to pay for sex in Northern Ireland. In the email, Dr Ellison said: “Why have you hooked yourself up to that lot in the DUP? Have you any idea what they stand for in terms of social issues around women’s rights; women’s reproductive rights issues and so forth? “In terms of gay and lesbian politics that I have an interest in, they are one of the most repressive and socially backward parties you could imagine.” Mr Wells said in the email Dr Ellison, who admits writing it, used a swear word that he would not repeat in public.”

Strikes me Ellison has got some fair enough points ? The DUP are a most peculiar group and have very odd and contradictory views on many things. However I don’t believe for a second that they are responsible in ANY way for gays killing themselves however. So Jim Wells also has a point.

Well, I hope he gets what he deserves.

The US government says it will seek the death penalty against Boston Marathon bombings suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

US Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement: “The nature of the conduct at issue and the resultant harm compel this decision.”

Seventeen of 30 charges against the 20-year-old – including using a weapon of mass destruction to kill – carry the possibility of capital punishment. The bombings killed three and injured more than 260 in April 2013. Mr Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty and no trial date has been set. Prosecutors allege that Mr Tsarnaev and his deceased older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, built and planted two pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the marathon.

The sooner this case goes to court and Tsarnaev is convicted the better. Execution should swiftly follow. The US Government seeks to put convicted terrorists to death. In Northern Ireland, the US Government supports placing them in high office. Funny old world….

Abite with me

akillerdog2We who have the privilege of posting on David’s blog all write from a personal perspective. ATW readers accept that, and for the most part refrain from partisan or objectionable comments on those posts. We all have our prejudices, our points of view; and just about all who either write or comment in these pages use those prejudices, those heart-felt beliefs, as a basis for the words we send into the electronic ether.

So when I read of a woman who defends her huge dog against the wounds and damage inflicted upon herself by that same huge animal, I try not to judge her as maybe a complete fruitcake, but attempt to find out what makes this particularly silly woman tick.

After the attacks he showed genuine signs of regret, cuddling up to me.

So it is not the bite scars and wound marks which lead me to my belief that this woman lacks any idea of what is acceptable in any environment, it is the marks of the huge, prominent tattoos which surely disfigure this woman’s arms that give an insight into this stupid, silly and ultimately shallow woman’s fate as a future statistic in the list of severe injury or death resultant from keeping a large, dangerous and aggressive animal in her own home.

I’m talking about men and I refer to intellectual weakness!

Applications to universities in the UK have risen by 4% compared with this time last year – but fewer men are applying. There are warnings that men are becoming a “disadvantaged group” in terms of going to university because they are less likely to apply than women. The figures, from Ucas, show 87,000 more women than men applied this year.

Superficially this does seem a concern BUT there is an upside to this. We have far too many young people going to University, getting themselves lumbered with huge debts, and leaving with a worthless degree. So hats off to those men who are choosing alternative pathways!

Here’s the deal. If you choose to be idle and not exercise it may well have health consequences!

A “pandemic” of inactivity in poor areas of England is leading to premature deaths, a report has warned. Thirteen of the top 15 local authorities where people are the most inactive also sit in some of the most deprived parts of the country, said experts from the not-for-profit health group, Ukactive. Where inactivity levels are at their highest, early deaths also peak, their study found.

I think you file this under “Is the Pope Catholic”?

Of course the real “pandemic” here is sloth. There is no real excuse for people not exercising assuming their health is OK and to somehow suggest that “social deprivation’ is the CAUSE is delusional. I’ll tell you what the cause most often is – idleness. Anyone can go out and be active. In fact you don’t even have to go out, you can exercise indoors. So, let’s dismiss the idea that lack of income leads to poor health.

The end of a Malignancy

diseaseAfter 20 TERMS in office Henry Nostralitus Waxman announced he will retire.

I have one thing to say, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out… good bye… good riddance.

Henry has been a poster child of the infestation of the malignant disease that is a career politician.
