A Nation of (Legal) Citizens not Immigrants

By Patty On February 28th, 2015 at 7:29 pm

Excerpt from a great speech by Mark Levin: “We are not a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of citizens. A nation of immigrants who have become citizens. We are a nation of citizens and I’m sick and tired of the American citizen being demeaned and treated as a second class citizens while anyone who crosses the border is treated as the most virtuous human being on the face of the earth.”

Levin finishes with a rousing “Kill ISIS!”

O J Putin Will Find The Real Killers

By Mahons On February 28th, 2015 at 4:15 pm

Putin’s vocal critic Nemstov was so dead in the shadow of the Kremlin.  Mr. Putin has vowed to hunt down the killer or killers.  Russian copsay find the triggerman, but it is doubtful the man who ordered the hit will go down.  Watch for typical pro Putin spin to suggest Nemstov’s allies did it.

Truly Devastated

By Patrick Van Roy On February 27th, 2015 at 10:04 pm

Truly Devastating.

spock1The Death of Leonard Nimoy of Spock is like hearing of the loss of one of your best childhood friends. Someone you grew up with, someone who was always there. Someone that you could depend on to say and do the right thing. You KNEW you could depend on Spock.

Mahons did an excellent hat tip, and farewell to the man. I bid farewell to the character. I didn’t know the man, but I loved the character. Even with the series reboot in a parallel time line they had to pay homage to the original Spock.

ATW FRIDAY NIGHT JUKEBOX

By Pete Moore On February 27th, 2015 at 8:14 pm

Because Friday night is Music Night

Desert Island Discs was a disappointment this morning. I usually tune in to it. Often you hear good stuff for the first time, and even if you don’t like a pick then you’ll soon be moving past it. Kirsty Young’s guest was some German opera singer bloke, and his choices all seemed to be opera. Not my bag really. I was tempted to switch over the 5Live, but the idea of Adrian Chiles was even worse.

As always, feel free to link to your fav sounds and whatever you want to share –

He Served the Needs of the Many

By Mahons On February 27th, 2015 at 7:27 pm

Leonard Nimoy, after living long and prospering, has boldly gone where we all must go one day.  To men of a certain age, the character of Mr. Spock remains an iconic part of their younger selves.  The half human, half Vulcan Spock served as the coolest charactet on the coolest space show television has ever seen.

Nimoy, I am sure had moments when he wished he never played the character, as he was so tied to the role it limited other things he might have done.  However he seems to have fully embraced the happiness he brought to several generations of fans.

Life has a way of slowly but surely slipping away, the once eminent characters fade away, and we are left with the memories until such time as we become memories ourselves.  But as Spock said, change is essential.  To Mr. Spock  those of us who enjoyed your character have been and will always be your friend.  RIP and LL&P.

Good Speech by a Hated Man

By Patrick Van Roy On February 27th, 2015 at 2:41 pm

Most don’t like Newt, I do. There are many flaws in this man, but his speech today at CPAC is very important. He talks about an aspect Radical Islam not being talked about, and the danger of Foreign Money financing influence in American Politics. Ignore the messenger and listen to the message.

BABYLON….

By David Vance On February 27th, 2015 at 9:14 am

Each year, the UK government spends MILLIONS on “Translation” services across the bloated public sector. Here is a small example of the utter madness that lies behind this;

An absent father in Slovenia was handed £23,000 in legal aid to have British court documents translated from English, it emerged yesterday. A judge ordered that the man had the right to read 591 pages of reports about the case that will decide the future of his eight-year-old daughter – who lives 1,000 miles away from him in England. The cost of translating the papers, said by a district judge to be ‘essential’, amounted to just over 10p a word or £38 a page. The bill for the father – who speaks no English – was condemned yesterday by the country’s most senior family judge. Sir James Munby said it was ‘impossible to justify’.

Sir James is right but this sort of lavish spending on translation is rampant.  I note that the NHS spends £23million on translation. I note that our Police Forces have budgets in the Millions for translation. And all because we refuse to enforce the simple view that responsibility for understanding lies with those who choose not to understand English – the legal language of this land.

PEACE IN OUR TIME….

By David Vance On February 27th, 2015 at 9:07 am

Well now, we ALL know that the Northern Ireland “peace process” has saved many lives. Even I agree with that. However it saved lives by giving those who would have taken those innocent lives what they wanted. As I pointed out on UK TV last Sunday, once you pay the Danegeld you never get rid of the Dane and so this is hardly a surprise….

The terrorist threat in Northern Ireland is still the highest in the UK, with a dissident attack highly likely here, the Secretary of State has warned. Theresa Villiers delivered her seventh written assessment of the security situation to parliament yesterday. The threat here has remained at ‘severe’ for over a year. In the same period it has been rated ‘moderate’ in Britain, which means an attack is possible but not likely. In Britain the threat is principally from international terrorism. Here it is mainly from local groups.

I’ll say. We swapped the IRA for the “I can’t believe it’s not the IRA”. We turned a blind eye to the thuggery and rampant criminality of the UVF and UDA. Oh yes, we most certainly have created a peace – but it’s foundations are immorality and appeasement. Terrorism does not go away, it re-brands.

PALIN ON ISIS

Is Obama responsible for the rise of Islamic State? Sarah Palin seems to think so…

The rise of Isis in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere was directly caused by the administration of Barack Obama, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said on Thursday. Mrs Palin spoke Thursday evening — to rousing applause — at the Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual meeting of right-wing activists and politicians. “The rise of Isis is the direct result of this administration’s refusal to heed that warning,” Ms Palin said. “The Middle East is a tinder box and it’s coming apart at the seams…Isis expands, it takes back land we just spilled blood to secure.”

She has a point.

In my view, Islamic State seized on Obama’s hand wringing equivocation over Syria and then started to build their grotesque Caliphate across the Middle East. Obama seems to think that Islamic State can be defeated by offering them better employment prospects and that is seriously deluded thinking by any standards. So Palin is right in one sense – but in another sense she is missing the point. Islamic State is just one further manifestation of the rise of Islam across the world. This ascendency is distinguished by ferocious barbarism and a total lack of respect for human life. It is not JUST Obama but also most other western political “leaders” who seek to deny this harsh truth,
