  1. David: A great and distinct song. Impossible for anyone to cover it with success.

  2. David: BTW, over at the Irish Eagle there was some chatter as to the best Clash song ever. I said I Fought the Law probably couldn’t count since it was a cover, and that I’d probably go with Train in Vain. Have a favorite?

  3. David/Mahons,

I didn’t list London Calling as my favorite Clash song (http://irisheagle.blogspot.com/2006/10/favorite-clash-song.html), but every time I hear the beginning of London Calling the hair stands up on the back of my neck. Just fantastic.

  4. Mahons,

    Good question.

I like London Calling – but also rate Safe European Homes, Bankrobber and their cover of I fought the Law is superb.

  5. Eagle: I didn’t suggest it as your fav, just that you had raised the topic of best Clash song ever on your blog for the discerning readers of ATW who might be interested.

  6. Great Band The Clash.

Police and thieves in the streets
Scaring the nation with their guns and ammunition
Police and thieves in the street
Fighting the nation with their guns and ammunition

And all the crowd comes in day by day
No one stop it in anyway
And all the peacemaker turn war officer
    Hear what I say

  7. What about this?

Black people gotta lot a problems
But they dont mind throwing a brick
    White people go to school
Where they teach you how to be thick

  8. The thing is that Clash lyrics are best when you pay no attention to them,,,

  9. Unwatchable the download from uTube marked by the track’s cyber hiccups, its far to slow. Remember this is the age of broadband.

  10. Parnell,

Check it out now – took a better version!
