THE ROYAL VISIT TO THE SCEPTIC ISLE…
By David Vance On March 5th, 2011
I was pleased to read that the Queen has been pleased to accept an invitation from the President of Ireland to pay a state visit to Ireland this year. The Queen will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.
It seems to me that the Republic and UK should be good neighbours and whilst scum like Gerry Adamsand his IRA/Sinn Fein brigade foolishly posture and would seek to deny the visit, most Irish and British people will simply wish it every success.
I note the timing is in May – the month of the Assembly election in Northern Ireland. The NIO is always keen to bring Royals over around election time to ensure that unionist nerves are calmed – so I trust that no such cynical motive lies behind the timing of this event.

I think the Queen should have gone over on St Paddy’s day. She could have been fitted into a lovely puce green shamrock bedecked dress complete with one of those silly big hats – at every stop on the visit she could have downed a pint of green guinness and ended up in a rowdy late night pub singing rebel songs and putting on her best ‘ould country’ accent claiming she’s really a true Paddy coz her great great great grand uncle once removed was born in Tipperary.
Well, that’s what loads of other foreign visitors to the Emerald Isle do
I would imagine that most Irish people will treat the visit with supreme indifference although I suspect that there are some on the extremities of Nationalism and unionism who harbor a dirty little secret hoping that this isn’t the case.
As to Adams “posturing”, Adams is an Irish citizen and elected representative of the Irish people. He’s fully within his rights to express his opinion on the matter
Ireland is now owned by the banking cartel and the queen is a suitable emissary to check over the new real-estate so, yes, why not welcome her?
The thought of the Queen in one of those bright green top hats, especially one with a little ginger beard attached, – why I nearly choked on my cuppa at the very thought. Mind you – some of the hats she has worn recently do bear a strong resemblance to a topper.
Can she not claim to be a Paddy by reason of her family once owning the place!
At William Hills, a green hat is at 6-1! 25-1 on it being orange…
Alright, so that was for last Ladies Day,…..

Now this one really does do the job!…
Isn’t the web truly wonderful? – who would have thought such things would be of interest!

According to Allan’s comemnt below, Ireland is owned once again by a cabal of which the Queen is part.
I bet he’ll be standing in the crowds in O Connell street waiving his little Union Jack flag as the Queen regally moves along the grand avenue
Well lets say he’s an elected representative of his fans in Louth.
I’ll be happy when it’s over. I hope no BNP thugs decide to use it as an opportunity to cause trouble over here and the loyalist trouble makers don’t come to town. If this has to be done then let’s get on with it but I hope the people who invited her know what they are doing for security. In and out fast and safely I hope.
There will be protests and they are legitimate. But they have to be peaceful.

… but I hope the people who invited her know what they are doing for security.
Whatever can you mean?
Do you remember the Love Ulster march in Dublin? The Gardai made a mess of it and there was a riot in O’Connell Street.

I have concerns about the dissident response to this visit. It is an opportunity from their point of view and I have no doubt they will try some stunt. If anything were to go wrong it would be a disaster for Anglo-Irish relations and we don’t want that. So I hope the cops are taking every possible step to avoid trouble. I don’t know if they have factored in the possibility of British and or loyalist trouble makers arriving to add to the situation but they should.
My preference would be not to have the date of the visit announced in advance. I think it should centre on the Phionex Park with those who wish to greet or wave brought inside the Park and those who wish to protest peacefully accommodated outside.
Believe me I don’t want any harm to befall our visitor and I hope I’m being a paranoid about it. But I hope the Gardai are too.
Sensible comments Henry.

I’m shocked to read someone might try a stunt. I thought the Irish were renowned for their warm welcome. That’s why everyone loves the Irish. You do live and learn.
As for British and/or loyalist trouble makers, well yes there’s that. Someone pitching up with a Union Flag would be no different to someone pitching up in London (say) with a Tricolour if Mary McAleese visited. It just happens, there can be no stopping it and rightly so. The potential for trouble makers to get close to the action and tv cameras is huge.
For once it would be nice if something could happen somewhere in the world and everyone can be cool about it instead of some idiots having to put themselves centre stage.
How can the Irish government afford security for the bankers’ royal emissary? The RoI is bankrupt, totally and completely up to its neck in debt and corruption ever since it passed the debts of the banking cartel onto its citizens.
I would imagine that most Irish people will treat the visit with supreme indifference
No, I think most Irish people, including most Shinners, will recoginse that this is a significant event which is indicative of a new, mature relationship between the Republic of Ireland and the former colonial power. Only diehard republicans will whinge.
I agree Peter hence the supreme indifference comment.
I’m no fan of the monarchy but if the old woman wants to come I’ll carry on with my daily life as I imagine will the vast overwhelming majority of Irish people.
