JUDICIAL FOLLIES…

By David Vance On March 17th, 2011

Now we have the dripping wet Ken Clarke as Justice Secretary, this was inevitable;

Thousands of violent criminals will be spared prison under new sentencing rules handed down to the courts on Wednesday. Among them will be thugs who assault police officers and attackers guilty of one of the most serious violent offences – grievous bodily harm. Under the guidelines set by the Sentencing Council, which is led by senior judges, many violent offenders will get fines or community punishments instead of prison sentences.

This change in judicial priorities will save £10m a year. So, that’s OK then…until you meet one of these violent thugs.

Criminologist Dr David Green of the think tank Civitas said: ‘If you want to reduce violence, this is going in precisely the wrong direction. It is asking for trouble.’

David is exactly right. Some poor soul – maybe even you if you are reading this in the UK –  will pay for this liberal lunacy concocted by our Conservative led government.

  1. If, as it now appears to be the punishment of choice, should community service be conducted in a manner reminiscent of how the American Chain Gang was organised i.e. offenders in recognisable attire supervised by men/women in authority (a good job for retired military personnel or similar)? I know that many would consider such a practice as cruel and unusual but, what the hell, offenders need to be shamed. Shame is a good thing.

  2. I sincerely hope that Ken Clarke, members of the Sentencing Council and senior judges are the victims of the violence which would have been avoided with a just, civilised and stern regime but which will happen instead.

    As some of us noted a long time ago, the state does not recognise the concept of righteous punishment for those who deserve it. The “grievous” in GBH still means something, unless you’re a member of the ruling class with a head full of Marxist tosh.

    Quite soon murder will be regarded in the same way. Crimes against political correctness aside, the ruling class has abolished the concept of punishment.

    Hmmmm,
    ?????????
    I wonder if they’ve worked out how many compensation claims and at what LEVEL of compensation, that £10 million will provide?
    Again David,
    Our “democratically elected leaders” see fit to reward the electorate by exposing them to serious violence in the event that by walking by/breathing near/serving one of these thugs, you the voter happen to upset said thug and get knifed or beaten……
    In which pre election manifesto would you see this gem proudly displayed?? :)
