THE IMPERIAL EUSSR…

By David Vance On June 30th, 2011

Demonstrating an imperial disregard for reality, the EUSSR demands more, much more.

“The European Union could increase its budget by 5% under a controversial proposal unveiled by its executive, the European Commission. The proposal – for the period 2014 to 2020 – comes despite calls from some EU member states for a budget freeze. The commission is also looking to review budget rebates that some member states get – most notably the UK. Hours after the proposal was unveiled, a UK government spokesman branded the planned budget “unrealistic”.

Everything about the EU is unrealistic but that does not stop it from happening! It has created a currency union which is disintegrating in front of our eyes  and yet it insists that the solution to this is even greater integration. In other words more of what got us into the mess can get us out of the mess. Orwell – can you hear me?

There is only one way that the UK can do something about any of this and that is to get out of the EU. All our major political parties are deeply committed to sustaining our membership of the EU. Do you see the disconnect? If we stay in it, it will destroy us but there is a determination to remain. That begs the bigger question; why?

  1. “Everything about the EU is unrealistic but that does not stop it from happening”. A very descriptive sentence David. Our only hope seems to be if we can kick up enough disatisfaction about the route our politicians are following that they find that they have to listen to the people. Now I do not know how to do this other than by calling for a new Prime Minister for the Country who will always put the needs of the Country first and foremost. But who?

  2. The EU is a house divided against itself.

Time for some clear, Germanic thinking on what stays, and what goes.

  3. Time for some clear, Germanic thinking ..

Do you mean a Final Solution to the EU problem ? ;)

  4. Phantom -

There’s no menu with the EU from which to choose. The point of it always has been total political and economic union into the centralised State of Europe.

Not even our political class seems to grasp this. William Hague, now the Foreign Secretary, once coined the phrase “in Europe but not run by Europe” when he was Tory Party leader.

    What complete drivel.

It’s the very point of the EU – total subjection and integration. In a way this has always been our saving grace. The British people would never go for this so our decoupling from the EU one day is assured.

  5. We may want to avoid that particular phrase.:)

  6. I’d be interested to see how much ” EU Skepticism ” exists in other places, as it clearly exists in Britain.

Could we someday have a new light hand ” European federation ” / free trade but not free immigration area involving Britain and some other countries? This would have been the smart play all along.

  7. Phantom

    That area pretty much exists:

It’s not perfect, but essentially it’s access for Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Switzerland into the free trade area without government by from Brussels.

  8. Those countries were very intelligent not to step into the net. As was the UK by staying out of the Euro. One size does not fit all.
