MORE HOT AIR…

By ATWadmin On May 29th, 2007

Pleased to see that the United States has rejected the European Union’s ludicrous pompous all-encompassing target on reduction of carbon emissions. President Bush’s environmental adviser James Connaughton, chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, said the United States is not against setting goals but prefers to focus them on specific sectors, such as reducing dependence on gasoline and cleaner coal. "The U.S. has different sets of targets," he said.

Quite right. Naturally, Nancy Pelosi has been doing her best to undermine the position of the Bush administration on this eco-wackery. But here’s the thing, when dear Nancy had the chance to vote in FAVOUR of Kyoto, she refused to do so. What has changed? It strikes me that this is really all about the political Left (and that includes Angela Merkel by the way) adopting a de-industrialisation combined with increased government control of our lives strategy and then wrapping it in the comfort blanket drivel of "saving the planet."

No, it’s about trying to save the planet on the basis that the AGW theory is correct. No need for conspiracy theories.

  2. Cindy Sheehan has allegedly retired from the political scene according to a news story today. Will you entitle your views on that unrelated development as "Less Hot Air"?

I didn’t know that Pelosi hadn’t supported that treay.

  3. "But here’s the thing, when dear Nancy had the chance to vote in FAVOUR of Kyoto, she refused to do so. What has changed?"

Her mind. It’s called "realizing the error of one’s ways". Stick around, David, it may even happen to you.

  4. David…

The USA accounts for around 5% of the world`s population but around 25% of global C02 emissions.Their reluctance to do somethiong to address this gets up alot of peoples noses.

  5. Michel,

Any thoughts on how much of global GDP the US accountd for? Think you might find a correlation.

  6. You know what David, you’re not going to change their minds. They are firmly entrenched in the belief that people are causing this current warming trend.

These same people believe everything that comes out of socialist governmental/ngo/UN/EU entities and their brainwashed mouthpieces. They believe white people are fundamentally racist, profit is unseemly, more government control is necessary, open religious faith offensive, terrorist are freedom fighters, animals are equal to people, expressing discerning judgement is JUDGEMENTAL and wrong, etc. etc. etc.

Their grandchildren will see how silly they were, but their commitment to this mmgw belief won’t be stopped until we’re all living in huts and riding our bikes to work.

Well all, except for the living large Yanks! Long live air conditioning and SUVs!

You know what Daphne, we’re not going to change your mind either. You’ve convinced yourself that all those scientists are either communist conspirators or just plain wrong.

Your second paragraph is plain laughable. I believe in profit and I hate terrorism in all its forms. But please keep right on with your straw-man production to keep me amused.

  8. Glad to see you’re not completely lost Peter.

I didn’t make up my mind on mmgw until late last year. The climate is warming, but I think it’s a natural phenomenom. The scientists that are disputing the current models being touted as fact, are very credible and unlike those promoting mmgw are not dependent on funding by agenda driven entities.

My "straw-man production" is just a realistic take on the politics of most groups and individuals who promote the mmgw theory. I’m so glad I can keep you amused.

are you claiming their is no paid up agenda on the other side of the field?

  10. Yes

  11. can you keep a straight face and say that?

  12. Do your homework and prove me wrong.

A recent report in the Torygraph stated that the US has managed to decrease it’s carbon emissions in the last year without signing up to Kyoto while the EU’s emissions have increased. The inability of the EU to do anything but pompously order other countries about gets up a lot of peoples’ noses. What percentage of the world’s population does the EU account for and how much of the global emissions?

  14. To many of the contributors on this site,

I have come to the conclusion that if a left-winger said give your Mum a hug you’d find her and break her jaw. However if a right-winger said break your mothers jaw you’d rush round and do just that.

I agree with your views on a good few things e.g. Islam=trouble, SF=IRA, criminals are scum, Israel should be allowed to deal with Palestine and a good few more.

But the continued hard on for war (how many of you have actually served in the forces in a theatre of war? I suspect none), Christian fundamentalism, bile against anything European and desire to control peoples sexual/reproductive habits make me realise that unmarried, sexually active, atheistic Europeans like me would be the first people against the wall if your type gained control.

I read overtly left wing sites too because I like balance. The views expressed irritate and amuse in almost equal measures. However in comparison too many of the views on here actually frighten me as words like "abomination" and other assorted Biblical rhetoric are used as justification for hate. If the words in a book, a BOOK, guide your actions and views then I suggest you need to take a long hard look at the ramifications.

For example. DV (I don’t mean to single you out, honestly) you seem a fairly strict Christian. Does that mean you would kill one of your children if they were gay? After all the Bible is fairly explicit that they must be killed if they "lie with a man as they would a woman".

Also would any of you genuinely be happy for your child to join the army and go to Iraq? If you wouldn’t be then withdraw your support for the Iraq war or you are a hypocrite and a coward.

Anyway I’m done for now. But I really think some of you should have a good long think about your views. After all what if middle-grounders like me seize power and decide you and your opponents on the left are equally undesirable?

  15. Ha Ha Ha…. Global Warming Gits…

  16. SBK,

If one of my kids was gay, I would love them just as much. The Bible says love the sinner, hate the sin. That’s my view on it.

If one of my kids sought a military career, I would support them and if that meant going to Iraq or wherever – fine. Their call.

You misrepresent my view on several issues in your post, I am not a "strict" Christian, I am a poor Christian, trying my best and failing. I thank God I am able to pray for forgiveness and strength, and whether you believe or not, I hope you too may find comfort in God’s word.

  17. Well said, David. We’re all in the same boat.

  18. SBK,
The Bible doesn’t authorise any particular individual to carry out a death sentence unless he is totally free from sin himself. Hence only God is entitled to punish or reward either homosexuals or non-homosexuals as he sees fit.

  19. Adrian,

"The Bible doesn’t authorise any particular individual to carry out a death sentence unless he is totally free from sin himself."

Jeeze, it must be tough being a Christian executioner in Texas prison.

  20. DV

I think you are cherry picking the bible. But then again all Christians do. I recall Leviticus(?) is very clear that gays are to be executed.

    Dawkins

You are totally correct. Since we are all sinners then the death penalty means that we are going beyond Gods remit for us.
