McCarthy is Speaker

What you have heard all week by the talking heads was that the Republicans were in Chaos. That 20 rightwing lunatics were holding the rest of the party, McCarthy and the entire country hostage.

Nothing could have been further from the truth. What you saw is how the American Congress is supposed to work. There are 222 Republicans and 212 Democrats in the House of Representatives each one has their own Districts and personal interests that they fight for. These fights between factions take place on both sides of the aisle. This process has been hidden, it has been hidden to give individual Representatives plausible deniability on what they got or gave for their vote.

Tonight was not one of those nights. All week what we have all gotten to see is how the sausage is made, as it is when making real sausage it’s not all pleasant to see. The vote tonight was actually dramatic. What was supposed to be one vote, over and done, blew up in their faces. We then got to watch Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert be “whipped” to change their vote. Now mind you that is a term, not an actual whipping. It shocks me that the PC Police haven’t had the term banned. In the end there were 6 that voted Present, 212 voted against, 216 voted for, giving Keven McCarthy the job of Speaker of the House.

The list of what was given to get him the votes has not yet been published. Those things will become clear when the Rules Package comes out. That will be finished by Monday, no business can take place until the Rules are agreed to. Then the real game begins.
