Tickets? No worries! Passports? No bother!

By Mike Cunningham On December 31st, 2011

“Greater Manchester Police is also working very hard to bring the family over to Manchester as soon as possible.

“For reasons beyond the family’s control, it is unlikely they will be able to do so until early next week so the force is putting plans in place to send officers to India to offer support.”

Why?

  1. That it’s Mike get your priorities right. Not bothered about the murder of an innocent young man, or the grief stricken reason for his family coming here, just bothered about some more ‘darkies’ potentially arriving even just temporarily. What an unbelievably shamefull post.

  2. Is it standard proceedure to send Police officers abroad to offer support to the family of a foreign national murdered in the UK? If a UK citizen is murdered abroad do the Police from that country come to the UK to offer support?

That is the question Colm. Spare us your faux outrage.

  3. Matt

No that is not the question for anyone with an ounce of decency. It wouldn’t be the question that would bother Mike or you if say a young white South African was murdered here in the UK and his family were given assistance by the authorities to come to the place of his murder and take his body home. Spare us your faux ‘concern’ about police procedures and dishonesty, this is all about the race of the victim and his family.

  4. What’s the big deal? Usually the cops don’t rush to name the victim till after the family’s been notified. That’s exactly what happened. Pop was notified vis that new internet wonder that’s been embraced from every slob (cept me, of course) in the world: “facebook”.

If I get greased I want my daughter notified by carrier pigeon.

The other thing I can’t fathom is that every police interviw in the UK and Ireland, regarding a murder, ends with the cop saying: “Our condolences to the victim’s family.”

Cops shouldn’t be in the condolence business. Their job is to find and (hopefully) eliminate the criminal.

American police just “tag ‘em and bag ‘em and get on with their job.

  5. Eddie

Strictly speaking there was an innacuracy in your comment. You are not the only slob in the world to resist the lure of facebook. I have yet to be sucked in ;)

  6. “It wouldn’t be the question that would bother Mike or you if say a young white South African was murdered here in the UK and his family were given assistance by the authorities to come to the place of his murder and take his body home.”

I can’t speak for Mike but how dare you say that it wouldn’t bother me if the victim were white. Please point to any comment that I have ever posted on this site that would support your assertion.

I posed two questions in my first post as I don’t know the answers. Do you? Surely the primary responsibility is with the Indian embassy in this case. Why are British Police Officers going to India to offer support? Are the Indian services incapable of doing so? If a UK citizen is murdered in India, will the Indian Police Officers come over here?

The same questions would apply if the victim were from Afghanistan or Zimbabwe. I chose these two countries as they are at the beginning and end of the alphabetical list of all countries. Please don’t accuse me of something else.

  7. Matt

I made my point about Mike’s original post and Mike’s question wouldn’t have even been raised if the victim and his family were white. I stand entirely by that. You chose to come on here and claim that my comment was a ‘faux outrage’. You sided with Mike’s bigotry and spare me the guff about this being nothing to do with race. Utter crap.

  8. From the linked report in the DT:

He was studying for a micro-electronics postgraduate qualification at Lancaster University, and was described by tutors as “an outstanding applicant at the very beginning of a promising career”.

Mr Bidve, who was described as “clever and sporty”, arrived in the UK in September after completing an electronics degree at Pune University.

I complain about the importation of uselessness from the 3rd-world but this lad wasn’t one of them. The sooner the scumbag who shot Mr Bidve is hunted down, the better. Nonetheless, I’m not sure why his family has to come over here now. If the killer is arraigned then they should be brought over for the trial.

  9. Allan

I think the issue of when and how the family come here is an utter irrelevence but at least you are demonstrating a proper concern for this victim and that the important point is about justice being served that Matt and Mike couldn’t be bothered with.

  10. Matt McCarthy -

    No, it’s not usual procedure.

In this case there was a cock up somewhere and the father found out on Facebook that his son had been killed.

I don’t know where the breakdown in comms happened but Lancashire Police did some apologising. All in all it sounds like a PR effort to make some amends.

  11. “and that the important point is about justice being served that Matt and Mike couldn’t be bothered with.”

Another unwarranted accusation. All my three comments have been in response to you, Colm. Mike asked why British Police Officers are going to India to offer support. That is a reasonable question.

You again make an assumption about me, this time based on what I didn’t say.

  12. What a person doesn’t say can often reveal a lot more than what they say.

  13. Colm,

Your first comment where you suggest that Mike is ‘just bothered about some more ‘darkies’ potentially arriving even just temporarily’, is quite untrue and unfair, and is no more than your own interpretation, and probably says more about your own attitudes than Mikes..

Mike merely asked the question as to why it was necessary to send ‘oficers’, – note the plural, – to India to offer ‘support’. What support might that be? I am sure all the support they need is already with them in the guise of immediate family members, and who are more likely to be more effective than any Manchester plod.

Have you ever heard of such assistance being offered to a bereaved family before?

  14. Colm,

There you go, all is explained. The police made a cock-up of informing the relatives, assuming that they knew the details of their whereabouts, and the trip is just a PR excercise to ameliorate any offence caused.

Perhaps you might do the same by apoligising to Mike for your highly presumptuous remarks.

  15. p.s. And Matt…

  16. No Ernest, Mike didn’t just merely ask the question soley with concern about police resources, and you and Matt both know that. The title of the post about tickets and passports reveals where Mike is coming from on this issue and it’s pathetic that you and Matt choose to pretend the farce that this is not a racist sneer.

  17. Ernest

Are you capable of reading simple plain English . Read Mike’s post. He isn’t commenting about the police trip to India – that supposed waste of police resources doesn’t bother him. He is bothered about Indians coming to England

I don’t need to aologise to anyone. You need to stop pretending there isn’t an elephant in the room.

  18. Colm,

Of course – if you say so!

  19. But a Happy New Year to you anyway Ernest, and Mike and Matt :)

  20. Keep digging Colm.

If Mike is having a dig at immigration policy, that does not make him racist.

Slinging accusations of racism at those questioning immigration policy is so passé!

  21. Oh Matt you are the gift that just keeps giving. How could you with a straight face say something so idiotic.

  22. To clarify – You’ve just made my argument for me and you don’t even realise it. Think about it.

  23. I’m thinking.

    Can anyone enlighten me?

  24. Well said Colm, all comments.

The usual suspects make their predictable racist comments, and you correctly call them out.

  25. Peter

Thank you. They know I’m right.

    Matt

I honestly don’t know whether you are being sarcastic or not. Are you actually cryptically mocking Mike’s original post ?

  26. “The usual suspects make their predictable racist comments”.

I hope you are not including me in this comment. If you are, please specifically refer to what I have posted that is racist, either on this topic or anywhere on this site.

No Colm, I am not being sarcastic. Please explain it to me in simple terms.

Goodnight all – going to the pub.

    Happy New Year!

  27. Oh Matt – I will explain it to you another time. Another year. Cheers, Happy 2012 to you.

  28. Matt

Have a good night in the pub.

  29. Right Guys, I’m back and slightly pissed.

Let’s hear it. Explain my faults to me. Show me where I am “racist”. Explain where, and how I am the “gift which just keeps giving”.

    Convince me!

  30. Hi Matt

I am slightly pissed but still able to convince !

Your final pathetic attempt at defending Mike’s racist post was to claim that he was only arguing against Immigration. SPOT ON !. He reads a story about a young innocent man who is murdered and his ONLY reaction is to be concerned about the possibility that this INDIAN man’s family might use his murder to come here and add to the total of bloody darkies on our soil. Thank you Matt for finally seeing my point !. Good night and I hope you had an enjoyable NYE.

  31. “Your final pathetic attempt at defending Mike’s racist post was to claim that he was only arguing against Immigration.”

I used “if”, which makes may point conjuncture, and it was in response to your 6:06 reply to Ernest in which you make a number of assumptions. Also I didn’t claim that he was “only” arguing about anything..

“his ONLY reaction is to be concerned about the possibility that this INDIAN man’s family might use his murder to come here and add to the total of bloody darkies on our soil.”

There is that “only” word again! Also, I see no reference in Mike’s post to “bloody darkies”. It is a term of racist abuse and you should be ashamed of yourself. You have also used the word “darkie” twice so that makes you a serial offender. So who is the racist around here?

Mike’s post is in bad taste but I assume he meant to be provocative. His main points remain uncontested, however, and would apply wherever the poor victim was from or his race, color or creed.

  32. Matt

I use the term “bloody darkies” precisely to expose the real meaning behind this mean minded post. I will ask you one question. If the murder victim had been a white South African or Australian do you think the offer to assist the grieving family to come to the UK would have been met with a sneering post by Mike headlined ” Tickets no worries, passports no bother” ?

  33. “If the murder victim had been a white South African or Australian do you think the offer to assist the grieving family to come to the UK would have been met with a sneering post by Mike headlined ” Tickets no worries, passports no bother” ?”

You will have to ask Mike that one.

I refer to the final paragraph of my 1:42 above.
