OCCUPYING IRRESPONSIBILITY

By David Vance On January 12th, 2012

The media have been a tad quiet about the Occupy movement in recent weeks so here’s a quick catch up!

A man is facing child cruelty charges after his 13-month-old daughter was found alone in a tent in the Occupy DC camp at McPherson Square. Occupy members told authorities that a baby was alone in a tent at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. David Schlosser, a U.S. Park Police spokesman. Officers found the girl alone in the tent with no adults around. The baby had been alone for at least half an hour, Schlosser said. A man returned to the park while police were investigating and said he was the baby’s father, Schlosser said. The man was charged with attempted second-degree cruelty to children. Schlosser would not release the man’s name, saying doing so could identify the child.

Is it any wonder that liberal politicians and clergy find this movement so inspiring?

  1. “The baby had been alone for at least half an hour, Schlosser said.”

A full thirty minutes alone in Stygian darkness broad daylight? The horror!

That rasping sound we hear is of a barrel-bottom being scraped.

BTW a child older than one year is no longer a “baby”.

  2. Richard – Are you under the impression that leaving a 13 month year old child alone and unsupervised is a positive parenting move?

Anyway it is not really a OWS issue, there is no call among them to abandon children for periods of time, it is unrelated to the merit or lack of merit of their movement.

  3. Mahons,

“Are you under the impression that leaving a 13 month year old child alone and unsupervised is a positive parenting move?”

    No. Are you?

  4. The Occupy movement does not exactly attract the best and the brightest, it must be said.

I’ve seen them up close and personal in NYC.

It’s the most over hyped movement in many years, and it has not caught fire in the general population the way the Arab Spring and other movements did.

    This story does not surprise.

  5. Richard – I asked because you seemed to downplay it. It really isn’t an OWS story in my opinion it is a bad parenting story.

  6. This OWS mastermind wants a big say in how the country is organized, yet he doesn’t know not to leave a 15 year old unattended in a big city.

Again, imagine the yelping if some Tea Party guy had done the same.

  7. –13 month old–

  8. Yes, the yelping would have been bad and I would also have defended the Tea Party as not consisting of people who abandon their kids.

  9. “A man is facing child cruelty charges after his 13-month-old daughter was found alone in a tent”

Think that’s bad? Just the other day a man on a boat threw his young son into the sea.
Now I hear that man was a Republican. Therefore everyone must vote for Obama.

  10. Still, child neglect makes a change from the rapes.

  11. Please don’t be so negative. These are the best and brightest of us all. So they made a few mistakes. They still should speak for the 99%

  12. Give the dude a break. He was out looking for drugs or stealing something to sell in order to buy drugs.

These Occupy Anything Socialist activists have human rights like every hard-working, honest citizen and because they’re useless pieces of donkey dung bent on destroying, looting and pilliaging doesn’t mean they’re really, really bad people. They’re simply misunderstood folks who have wandered off the path of life. They need free housing, food, clothing and a needle exchange.

    They need love.
