LEADING INTO OBLIVION!
By David Vance On March 31st, 2012The Ulster Unionist Party masses gather to choose a new leader today and it is a matter of supreme irrelevance to most people. My bet is that former UTV news reader Mike Nesbitt will win the leadership. Mike stands for more of the same, if a little more liberal. He is a triangulator in my view with no strong views on anything, so a perfect leader for the UUP. By contrast, John McCallister, is an even more progressive liberal albeit with some more changes to policy on offer – such as going into Opposition. I understood that Dignitas are sponsoring the event and I am sure that whoever wins the result will be the same – the sustained demise of the former “natural party of Government”.
Interesting that even the highly politicised and argumentative ATW crowd can’t motivate themselves to have an opinion on this unintriguing contest.
Hard to believe that this is the party which ruled Northern Ireland so ruthlessly for so long.
