IRAN BY THE NILE?
By David Vance On May 26th, 2012Seems to me that Egypt needs renamed. I am sure it will be…
Egyptians will choose between between the Muslim Brotherhood and a candidate from the Mubarak-era regime when the presidential election goes to a run-off, state media confirm.
Yes, and I’m saying that the Brotherhood will win. And then….? Well, here’s a clue for the slow of thinking…
“Egypt’s Constitution should be based on the Koran and Sharia law, presidential candidate from the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist movement Mohamed Morsi said. “The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal,” Morsi said in his election speech before Cairo University students on Saturday night.
Got that?
Wish we were all as chilled on this as Obama. As you know he welcomes the Muslim Brotherhood ascending to power.

“Wish we were all as chilled on this as Obama. As you know he welcomes the Muslim Brotherhood ascending to power.”
That’s cause he’s a card carrying member of that “Brotherhood”!
And you would do what differently?
David,
It seems to me that if Ahmed Shafiq wins, Egypt will continue as a pragmatic secular Islamic nation.
If he doesn’t Egypt will be in serious trouble, as I would imagine that the USA will rethink its aid strategy, and from who will replace them as a source of subsidies?
http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/politics/us-foreign-aid.htm
Egypt would be plunged into turmoil, and I would imagine that most Egyptians are savvy enough to not want that.
I don’t think that he welcomes it
GW Bush asked for democracy in the Arab World
Who did we think they would elect?
The new president, whoever he is, will share power with SCAF. They will continue to be bankrolled by the US and little will change.
On the subject of Islamism, I just finished reading this. Much food for thought.

It’ll be alright.
If the islamists push too far then the military will do what it’s supposed to do and defend sense against democracy.
We could do with a regular military coup ourselves.
Petr Tarasov
I will get the book.
I agree with some of the comments written by the readers.
Western post Christian culture is shallow, materialistic and “me” centred.
BUT,
Islam is community oriented/conformist BECAUSE of the religious values and assumptions that NO ONE can openly question!
That is one problem.
Another problem is that the belief in an all powerful God (Allah) who need explain himself to no one, and demands obedience/submission has brought about a sense of fatalism.
Everything that happens is Allah’s will. Your child is crippled, it’s God’s will.
You have an accident; it’s Allah’s will.
Fatalism breeds apathy. It means there can be no real progress because submission to the will of Allah and obedience to his commands are an end in themselves.
That is why a devout Muslim always says,
“Inshallah” If God wills it.
Phantoms actually blaming Bush… does it never get old.
I wonder when they will start blowing up ancient religious edifices as they have in other nations?
Mahons there is a lot that can be done differently, first off cut off their american aid money, they made their democratic choice, well choices have consequences, second close our embassy.
This man has stated the US is his enemy, yet as usual you mahons you would do nothing
cut off their american aid money… close our embassy.
That would be the best thing for Egyptian democracy. The aid give the US far too much influence in what’s at least nominally a democratic country. But what would the US care about democracy, didn’t they support the brutal dictator Mubarak until the end!
GW Bush asked for democracy in the Arab World
lol Touching naiveity.
Petr, if the people who ran the institutions whose philosophy you support were in power a)you wouldn’t be allowed on a site like this, and b)you may be of the 200 MILLION killed in the name of your precious communism.
Only a fool believes that aid money influences I use the Palestinians as the example they have received billions and they are still animals.
Bush didn’t put Mubarak in place., and you think Egypt was a harsh place to live under him, well why don’t you immigrate there now that it will be the bastion of freedom under the Islamists.
There is no reason to shut the embassy. We have embassies for diplomatic reasons, not cause we love the government of every place where we have an embassy. As for the aid, it certainly needs to be reviewed because we give so much of it to so many (including Israel). But Egypt has been a major ally for years, has the strongest army in Africa and the second strongest in the Middle East. It can’t be dismissed as some afterthought.
That aid basically kept Mubarak in power. You must be so proud!
Troll,
Shame on you for calling the Palestinian people animals.
Bush repeatedly called for democracy and elections in the Arab world. You do not remember this very recent history?
You got what you wanted. Be happy. Since democracy is always good.
We speak of a very backward society, where people believe in devils and witchcraft. What did you think they were going to do? Start an Egyptian Tea Party? Invite Newt Gingrich to move there to be an elected Pharoah on the banks of the Nile?
Petr – I would prefer a perfect world, but alas that is not possible. Sometimes for the greater good in the real world one finds oneself aligned with creatures made of clay.
Phantom: Bush bankrolled every vile dictator in the region, apart from those who didn’t play ball. But you know this very recently history…
Mahons: When one wishes to hear a cringeworthy liberal cliché, you can be relied upon to come up with the goods.
Petr – A cringeworthy liberal cliche? Like calling an illegal alien “undocumented”?
When all the choices are bad, I won’t necessarily crucify Bush for doing that.
There are no Thomas Jeffersons in the Middle East.
It is tribe, vendetta and ignorance and thats it, except for Israel, and then only partially.
Holy Land, yea right.
Yes, I’m familiar with how much you hate Arabs, Phantom.
Petr
Someone who idolizes mass murderers and criminals may want to commit to self reflection and the study of history, rather than devote ones life to the black arts of lies and libel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribes_With_Flags
The only arab nation is egypt, a fact long known by the Arabs
Which is why the region is what it is
Tribes with flags? Thats it.
Blame TS Lawrence.
Petr the Palestinians are animals, rabid ones that need to be shot. and no one hates arabs, just islamists
Mahons shutting the embassy is symbolism, just as it was when Obama opened one in Syria. We shut the one in Egypt and move our Israeli Embassy to Jerusalem where it belongs.
As for their second most powerful army in the ME it is about to be pointed at our troops and at Israel. It’s time to cripple it.
Libel? Says the man who called me an anti-semmite!
Someone who idolizes mass murderers and criminals (Bush, Obama etc.) may want to commit to self reflection and the study of actual history, not the victorious bourgeois historians version, rather than devote ones life to the black arts of profound self-delusion and ‘my country right or wrong’.
Troll,
Palestine WILL be free.
why are the Islamists leaving?
“As for their second most powerful army in the ME it is about to be pointed at our troops and at Israel. It’s time to cripple it.”
Uh-oh, another grave threat to national security by the sounds of it.
But hang on a moment. This second most powerful army in the Middle East is only so because the American taxpayer has ponied up for it. And, because it’s so powerful, they have to pony up for Israel to have the strongst military in the region.
Yep, it’s a racket.
Troll
You love war and intervention way too much. Good thing that you have no power.
War should generally be the last option, not the first.
your unending attack that I love war is getting old.
I know lets pretend the world is a nice happy place, will all hold hands and sing “I’d like to buy the world a coke”
The continuation of WWII till 9 November 1989, left a lot of military equipment, and a lot of bad policy in place. The past 20 years has NOT been spent removing that tech or cleaning up political messes.
We now must pay for those sins.
just for you phantom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2msbfN81Gm0
