THE RIVER PAGEANT

By David Vance On June 4th, 2012

These are just some of the stunning images from yesterday’s River Pageant celebrations on the River Thames. Just amazing.

The view from the London Eye: Crowds pack Westminster Bridge as the royal barge and escort passes the Houses of Parliament

Braving the elements: The rowers who manned Gloriana had been on the river for hours by the time the conclusion of the pageant

Spectacular: Every available vantage point down the Embankment and the Millennium Bridge was packed as hundreds of thousands of people tried to getting a view of the spectacular Royal Pageant along the Thames

  1. It was very well done and looked great.

  2. cringe worthy more-like

  3. And not an EU flag in sight, how that must be making the Eurocrats cringe. This is one event they cannot hi-jack for “Le Projet”.

Not sure even the eurocrats would want in on this tat.

  5. Bravo!

  6. I haven’t seen it mentioned, but is there a Military parade or a Review of the Fleet, planned?

As our military swear an oath of allegiance to the Crown, I am assuming that one or the other, or both, are planned and I’m looking forward to seeing both these events.

In the past these events have been quite awe inspiring. Surely as a token of thanks, from Her Majesty, on the one hand, and a token of respect, from her military, on the other, it would be unsurpassed!

Perhaps too regimented for today’s celeb worshippers…

  7. The world watched on in awe, and the countless visitors from near and far cheered and clapped the magnificent display and our elegant and loyal Queen.

    Fantastic.

You must have little going on in your life.

  9. Charles

There’s no law that says you have to appreciate this type of thing.

If you don’t like it, don’t criticize those that do.

  10. Charles,

au contraire, I have a very fulfilling life and support my Queen and the Royal Family with pride.

Unlike the desperate attempts by oiks like yourself, I am comfortable enough to have the utmost admiration for a woman who was foisted upon at an early age and has carried out Her duties and responsibilities with tremendous patience, elegance and dignity.

    Blees Her.

  11. Unlike the desperate attempts by oiks like yourself

Hardly an attempt or desperate. Just bemused by it all. Its not the second coming of christ, id have more patience for the Royal family if they made real tangible efforts at leading and improving society.

As for oiks well…isnt that your role as a ‘subject’ of her majesty.

  12. …and has carried out Her duties and responsibilities with tremendous patience, elegance and dignity.

Does that include handing over the nation to the EU?

  13. She did not such thing.

If you have any dispute, it is with your elected representatives, and not with the person who is a symbol of the nation.

Such comments are silly, and unfair.

  14. ‘id have more patience for the Royal family if they made real tangible efforts at leading and improving society. ‘

    Not their job Charles.

Theirs is to represent the nation worldwide, which they have done with dignity.

I am proud to have served my Queen and country and I am indeed a loyal subject.

Allan, the politics of involvement in the EU are nothing to do with Her Majesty.

  15. It was an amazing spectacle. The rain-soaked choir at the end was the high point for me.

  16. The choir was outstanding.

In fact they should have brought them back tonight instead of putting on this shambles on The Mall. This is the worst gig I’ve ever seen.

Lenny Henry is talking about black James Bonds, that fat female “comedian” (can’t remember her name) hasn’t said anything funny in her life, and some American rapping bloke with an odd name called out to with the Queen happy birthday.

And Grace Jones? Where did they dig her up from?

Why the Queen puts up with this predictable drivel I don’t know.

  17. What’s Cheryl Cole doing on the stage?!

  18. I’m glad we weren’t the only ones to be disappointed. The choir was the highlight, and whilst one could see the reasoning for including Cliff Richards, Tome Jones et al, it would have been better for them to say something personal about their own careers against the backdrop of the Queen’s reign.
Again there seemed to be a lack of deference and respect and perhaps concern that the Duke of Edinburgh wasn’t present. Not just because she is our monarch, but because as a couple they have seen so much in their lifetime, and they are really getting on in years.
Personally I thought it was somewhat tacky and empty.

  19. Its like watching something from north korea get off your knees ffs

  20. What’s Cheryl Cole doing on the stage?!

    Pete

At least David Beckham was missing. Let’s be grateful for small mercies.

  21. I would have liked him to sing though…

  22. Lenny Henry is the most unfunny man ever to be on tv.

He actually shouted, all the black people in da house say yooohooo!

    Good grief…

  23. How fit is Cliff Richard?

    71?

fantastic, I want some of his pills!

  24. Awful.

Once we could have had many many big navy ships, with big guns.

We virtually had the ‘armfloats and flippers section’. I mean rowboats, canoes? FFS.

    It was a National embarrassment.

Rather like the recent ‘River of Fire’ event. Hugely over promised massively under delivered. ‘Modern Bwitain’ to a tee.
