The Drones Club
By Mahons On June 26th, 2012Obama’s Drones Club differs from Bertie Woosters’.
I am not adverse to the idea of actual Terrorist leaders getting vaporized by drones. I do object however to the escalating use of drones without accountability. I mean how many times do I have to hear we got the number 2 man or the number 3 man before it starts to get a bit ridiculous. To what end? And according to the New York Times the Obama Adminsitration counts any male of military age in a defined terrorist zone as a terrorist absent explicit post-drone proof that he wasn’t. Talk about racial profiling!
I am also concerned that drone warfare is endless warfare. I understand going to get a known target who presents a clear and present danger. I understand knocking off a terrorist who has particiapated in a terrorist act, and especially when they are planning more. But lobbing drones into Pakistan to knock out some bad guy whose on a list of bad guys, well that doesn’t add up to me as a great plan. And the fact that civilians have been caught in this policy should give one pause, especially if one is dusting off a Nobel peace prize from time to time.
I am no pacifist and I recognize the danger of islamic terrorists. But this drone policy of the Adminsitration might light up a few baddies and their lawn furniture, but it doesn’t strike me as the best laid plan. Course it is one area the Republicans haven’t hounded him on. They should. And so should other voters. If he can justify the program he should set out his case.

Mahons,
With the right contacts you could probably threaten Troll with a splitting headache…
Agit8ed – This will be difficult for him. First he would probably approve of bombing islamic terrorists any time anywhere, collateral damage be damned. But then he would want to be critical of Obama. He’ll be pulled in a couple directions on this one.
“First he would probably approve of bombing islamic terrorists any time anywhere, collateral damage be damned”
So,
buy him an Arab headdress and tell him to be sure to be wearing it on Wednesday morning at five minutes past eleven, and to please stand well away from the house…
For good or ill, drones and things like it are the future of warfare. Including tiny insect sized spy drones. Lots of luck finding them.
Yeah,
imagine getting one of those trapped in your insect zapper…
“But this drone policy of the Adminsitration might light up a few baddies and their lawn furniture, but it doesn’t strike me as the best laid plan.”
It makes alot of momey for military contractors. Maybe that’s why the US is now a permanent war nation.
Americans ought to be particularly worried about the increasing use of drones. They began as recon instruments before becoming battlefield weapons and then the primary means to assassinate those who displease Washington.
Now their deployment has been taken back inside the US and civilian authorities are increasingly using them. In a few years there will be thousands of drones monitoring and tracking Americans.
In the meantime, the Emperor has abrogated to himself the power of life and death over every human on the planet. It has resulted in an American citizen being murdered on the word of the president. No-one is particularly upset at his fate, but his 16 year old son, also an American citizen, was also killed because the president ordered it.
These are actions which would once have been unthinkable.
Also in the meantime, the DHS has decalred that returning veterans, anti-government types, militias, Ron Paul supporters and many other types of perfectly normal Americans are “potential terrorists”.
I fully expect Hellfire missiles or some other munitions to soon be deployed in the US. The law doesn’t matter. It is completely irrelevent to Washington and its controllers. Americans will, before long, be killed from the skies, by their government, on the say-so of some government goon.
We could do with a few of those flying over catholic areas of British Ulster!
Pete – Certainly any military action makes money for military contractors. Take D-Day for instance. They made a bit of change on that one.
There are legitimate reasons to question the use of drones, but libertarian paranoia isn’t the starting point for me.
Bernard – stick to the flying pigs, which was the time when most people thought that people like yourself would cease to be numerous. Now, we see that you are on the fringe.
damn am I hallucinating or have half the comments gone missing?
Pinky was even on here. were we hacked?
Perhaps, odd. Circle the wagons!
Ii imagine it is a technical glitch.
If there was a hack, they’d take ir all down.
I don’t know, David is abroad, the time is ripe for a hostile takeover.
ok I state it again I am of two minds on this.
Drones, robots, long range missile and high tech weaponry, Long range hypersonic weapons launched from Arizona that can hit any location in the world within an hour and hit with the destructive force of an atomic bomb but from clean kinetic energy, wiping out the enemy with out ever having to set foot on the battlefield damn straight.
The job of the military is to kill people and break things if you can do that without endangering any american soldier you do it, without hesitation. and I don’t care what it costs financially or in collateral damage.
The American philosophy has been and should remain. If you kill 1 of ours 1000 of yours must die. The best defense is fear.
The response to any attack on a single american or any american interest should be so brutal and so horrible, that if anyone in an opposing group even suggest attacking an american or our interests the fear of our response should be so great that the other members of that group kill the person for even suggesting it.
as for Obama and his braggadocios picking names of targets every Tuesday morning which this white house has sad he does, what do you expect? We elected a man to run the largest corporation in the world who couldn’t run a deli.
This man sold guns to drug dealers for no other reason than that they would show up at crime scenes so he could advance an anti gun agenda against the american public.
This is a man that you voted for that is so petty upon losing the key piece of the immigration ruling gave ICE explicit commands that they are no longer allowed to respond to arizona police when they capture illegals, he removed all immigration enforcement from the state so that if they follow their constitutional rights no one can enforce the law because the supremes said only the feds can enforce immigration.
he has tried to socialize our economic, industrial and medical systems.
and your going to kevetch over his over use of a military tool because he thinks it gives him street cred against terror?
give me a break. and people like Pinky can’t wait to vote for him again.
grow up Mahons and think of your children. Do you want them struggling to make ends meet and worried about car bombs going off in the streets?
davids not or tech guru All Seeing Eye is anyone know how to contact him?
If so send him a note please
I sent David a tweet, best I can do….
Now going to watch Prometheus if I can find it on the web
As I said on my own post, I have contacted Geoff to have a quick look around.
I had an email recently from the hosting company that they were doing a scheduled maintenance on our server but they said specifically that there was likely to be short term sluggish performance during the works but there should be no interruption of service.
That’s why I didn’t bother posting anything about it…plus it wouldn’t have helped because their time window was vague anyway.
They were largely right as the site didn’t disappear at any point and anyone with a quiet site on that box would never have noticed.
However it was a database move and of course your comments are written into…the database. The timing of their work matches the missing comments. So whatever was posted in that timeframe seems to have gone down the memory hole.
I’ll send them a grumpy email but that’s as much as can be done. Sorry.
More generally, I’ve just checked the Spam folder and released some posts.
Please remember that if you post multiple links in the same post then it’s likely to get put into moderation, as that’s a classic sign of spam.
ASE,
Always there when panic hits the ATW ranks..
While you’re at it please see if you can find Ernest Young, Harri, Geoff Watts and Richard Clinton.
Are they all on holiday or have they been scheduled for “routine maintenance” also?
I miss them already.
