THERE’S A PERFECTLY REASONABLE EXPLANATION

By Pete Moore On July 31st, 2012

The Brazilian girls think we’re out to get them.

The Brazilian women’s football team is fuming that British authorities failed to replace a broken down bus for more than five hours, stranding them on the side of the road the night before their big match against Team GB.

Some of the team members have told Brazilian newspapers that the delay by London Olympic organisers may have been a deliberate ploy to upset them on the eve of the game, which will be held at Wembley Stadium tonight.

Calm down girls. We’re British, ergo we don’t try to nobble the opposition. But transport fiascos? Someone should explain they’re in the global HQ for those.

  1. There’s probably no plot, but it sure looks like hell. Like in the old days when the Boston Celtics put the heat on in the visiting team’s locker room in June.

Lets hope the Brazilians win big, and everyone will be happy.

  2. Well, Britain won 1:0, so it worked.

  3. Phantom,

The “old days”. Apparently in their most recent playoff series the Celtics dropped the temperature inside the Garden when Miami were practicing forcing them to either abandon the practice (as some players did) or put on jumpers during the practice.

  4. Ahh..

In the old Boston Garden too, they had dead spots where the ball wouldn’t bounce properly, , intentionally not repaired, on the floor that only the home team would know about.

    A ” fine tradition”!

  5. Almost every team would have had them. It was all part of the home court advantage.

Plus the old Garden hung 16 banners so they were sure as hell doing something right.

  6. I’ve been to a number of the great old places, incl Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, Tiger Stadium, the old Yankee Stadium before it was reconfigured.

But I never set foot in Boston Garden, and I sure wish that I had. I went to its replacement, which had all the color of an enclosed ATM lobby.

  7. That’s always the way of it. New stadiums almost never replicate the atmosphere of the ground they replaced, especially somewhere like the Garden or Yankee Stadium where there is so much history and tradition.

  8. What a cheek!

I see some Americans are playing that basketball game of theirs at the moment against Tunisia, calling themselves the “Dream Team”.

Well good luck, but there’s only one Dream Team in London …

  9. I think the main cheek is that there is only one Dream Team in US Basketball and it isn’t them either.

  10. I will be at the fake Yankee Stadium for a business gig tomorrow.
