By The Troll On August 5th, 2012I have four fictional heroes that I always fall back on. When I need a break and just want to loose myself in a story that has nothing to do with current politics, except of course an underlying thread of mans morality or immorality.
The first one of course is purely American, I regard him as the true symbol of the American Soul. That of course would be The Batman, however 3 out of the 4 are purely British. Sherlock Holmes, Avon from Blakes 7, and of course The Dr.
These are the fictional heroes of my youth that I have carried into adulthood, and middle age. What does that say about me? I’m sure it could make a great conversation on some shrinks coach.
Who are your “Fictional” heroes and why? an open question to one and all, I’ll take any quips or questions regarding mine?

Tarzan: -who was obviously trying to fit in with his genetic roots and got on well with the animals..
Biggles: the British First World war fighter pilot. He believed in fair play, honour and courage.
Winston Churchill: because he loved his country and through the darkest days kept it going and gave us hope.
My Dad: because he ran off to sea at 16, he saw the world, he did some heroic things and came through the war, whilst retaining a healthy contempt for pompous authority.
Odysseus because he uses cunning and wiliness rather than brute force and because his main ambition wasn’t personal glory but to get back home.
Rocky Balboa because he used brute force rather than cunning or wiliness.
Dirty Harry just because.
I think this is a boys thing. Super Heros are generally too reactive. The disaster scenario has established itself before they get involved. Men who join the police tend to want to solve crimes more than prevent them. Men who join the fire services tend to want to put out fires more than prevent them. This is not a conscious thing and they don’t deliberately let things happen so as to play the hero, but when they imagine themselves in the job it is the reactive stuff they imagine.

That is classic. Of course even Wonder Woman was a boys thing, especially as played by Lynda Carter.
Never really got the Batman thing either – he had no real superpower, couldn’t fly or anything, he just dressed up. OK he had a nice car. But if I got to be a superhero, and ended up as batman, I’d feel ripped off. It’s just one step up from that transformer who turns into a tape deck, or an X-man whose superpower was accountancy or something.

Nice observation, Aileen.It really is a male thang. I have a really hard time with fictional characters (except for the ones that post on ATW). I’m all about the facts…all my heros have actually lived. Except Harriet the Spy who said: “I want to remember everything. And I want to know everything”. I adopted her style for a while as a youngin after reading the Judy Bloom book and caused a bit of disruption locally…hiding in bushes and writing down what I saw…prelude to a pervert…;-)

Now you miss the point of Batman, he is earths only real superhero. No special powers, just brains, brawn, and nerve. Wrapped in an unflinching view of right and wrong. That’s a super hero.
As for not using his wealth for providing jobs you don’t follow the mythos. Wayne Enterprises had industry on every continent and provided services for the poor to the point of almost bankrupting the company before Bruce was born. Which he continued to champion when he wasn’t in costume.

Martial arts got me through law school and I went to law school a long time ago when it was still a ‘mens” field. Allan the “official” report said nothing declaring it a lone gunman, the police spokesman said the entire area was shut down due to conflicting reports of multiple shooters. They are treating it as a domestic terrorist incident. So that would incline me to believe they suspect a planned operation with multiple people involved.

A4. ‘Gun nuts’ such as the NRA make the argument that disarmed people are unable to fire back at armed assailants, and that is obviously the case. If the population of the US were disarmed, only criminals – both civilian and governmental – would have guns, the latter being the greater danger. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the ‘lone wolf’ complete with multiple shooter back-up were to attack (in error) a location where ex-servicemen armed to the teeth had happened along.
Whenever an atrocity occurs, the corporate media (the fully-interlinked cartel – see A1.) and the corporately-owned politicians (see donations to politicians) call for gun control to prevent such atrocities but the NRA points out that the atrocity occurred because the criminal had the gun and the unarmed casualties did not. As long as that argument is understood by the majority of people, gun control will make little progress, but Obama is “working on it, under the radar”

A5. In the internet age, there are some things that cannot be accomplished, although the internet ‘kill switch’ which is under development will assist. The media shape the narrative post-atrocity although the elements of the media who arrive for first interviews reveal what really happened before the ‘narrative’ kicks in as is the case for the attack on the Sikh temple. An example of this is the Pentagon on 9/11 where the first reporter stated clearly that there was no evidence
of a plane crash and backed it with his video footage (still on the internet).

An even greater example was the Oklahoma bombing where the other bombs inside the building had to be neutralised and removed by bomb squads. Yet everybody believes that one fertiliser bomb brought down the facade of a building.

Troll – Frank asked questions so I’m answering them, and one of them relates to you as an armed citizen. Why do you reckon that only gatherings of unarmed people are attacked such as a cinema and a sikh temple? Do you believe, as a gun-carrier, that you would have made a difference at either of the two recent atrocities?
I would like to be in a position to say that you live there and if you don’t believe that there is a concerted effort by the Establishment to disarm you by using false flag ops – Fast ‘n’ Furious – to provide the justifying narrative to a gullible, dumbed-down population then that’s your problem.
