Sitting at the heart of Government is a very uncivil Civil Service. Consider;

Senior mandarins want to start working with Labour up to a year before the next general election and even help them write their manifesto, it was revealed today. Civil servants are desperate to avoid the series of policy disasters and U-turns made by the Coalition in the past two years, by helping an opposition party better prepare for Government. One option being considered is that Whitehall staff will be sent to the Labour party on secondment to help them develop in the job and also help with policy.

Several things here. Since when d0 Civil servants have a mandate to change policy? We elect Government to govern, we do not expect unelected civil servants to work to sabotage policies that they do no like. In fact such stance on their part is virtually seditious as they seek to remove the Government and replace it with one more ideologically aligned to THEIR views. Given the chance, the current Government should move to sack these mutinous mandarins. Their continued malignant presence will only do harm as they feather their own nests at our expense.
