50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR..MARK
By David Vance On December 28th, 2012Oh no! Another scurrilous accusation that Sinn Fein is simply the sanitised face of the IRA.
A SINN Fein TD is believed to have been involved in 50 murders during the Troubles, new documents reveal. Secret internal communications within the British government suggest that Dessie Ellis, then a member of the IRA, was forensically linked to the deaths in the Republic and in Northern Ireland. And another communication dealing with Mr Ellis refers to him as a “leading PIRA” (Provisional IRA) member.
Get that? Forensically linked. 50 MURDERS.
Still, let’s leave the past..and the bodies..behind us. Even the Sandy Hooks shooter couldn’t manage 50. But he was VOTED in to the Irish Parliament by the nice people of Dublin North-West so that makes OK. Right?
50 murders.
Next thing you know some rogues will say Adams and McGuinness are steeped in the blood of innocents. Where oh where will all this carping end?

He was extradited to England and acquitted. So clearly the case against him was not as strong as the British believed. It’s hard to see where the story is here.
I read the article until I got to the Irish Independent and stopped reading.
Ditto, lads.
He was acquitted FFS! There is no story, just the Indo and their transparent agendas.
A right wing, anti-republican rag states something speculated about in internal British memos and this is taken as fact?
Love the denialists above. And a atrange lack of comment from some American quarters.
50 murders.
Shouldn’t that be alleged 50 murders David?
Do you dispute the fact of the acquittal David? It seems you get over-excited when a story is aligned with your viewpoint no matter what the source or the credibility or the actual facts.
Paul McMahon -
If the murders happened they’re not alleged. The allegation is that Ellis is somehow linked to them. Of course, he could just be yet another good republican boy who never harmed a fly. In fact none of them ever harmed a fly according to republicans.
Oh dear. Do your homework. He has IRA-related convictions and has been open about the face that he was a leading member of the IRA for decades.
Pete – Love how you swing back to supporting the State against the civilian population when it comes to NI.
Pete Moore. I’m trying to address the implications in David’s post
The 50 murders are indeed presumably fact but why let facts get in the way of things? After all, judging by your sarcastic hyberbole above it seems that neither David nor you have bothered with them.
Mahons -
Not at all.
I’m all in favour of due process and tight constraints on prosecutors before hanging IRA filth.
As far as I can see if they had the evidence in 1982 why didn’t they prosecute him for the crimes? Looks like the US extradicted him a couple decades ago, don’t blame us if your government didn’t prosecute him when they had the chance.
Pete – When it comes to NI your anti-government rhetoric takes a back seat.
Paul
There were 50 murders. That is not an allegation. Who carried them out is a different matter. But I think Ellis is innocent, like marty and gerry. All innocent. Why Gerry not even in the IRA….
Deputy Ellis was acquitted in a British court. Maybe we should just hang him anyway!!
Yes David, along with many, many more.
But the crux of the thread is that you run a story from some rag implying on speculation that a Sinn Fein politician is somehow involved in 50 murders.
There is an elephant in the room however;
Forensic evidence generally tends to be the most reliable evidence. So why wasn’t Dessie Ellis convicted?
But facts are unimportant because once the mud sticks it’s hard to dislodge it and that’s what this is about isn’t it?
