I was delighted to read that Beyonce mimed The Star Spangled Banner at Obama’s coronation. It seemed so apt – convincing fakery being the natural link to President Narcissus.

  1. All the more credit to Kelly Clarkson’s performance!

  2. On the radio today they said that Whitney Houston’s memorable 1991 Super Bowl performance of the national anthem was a lip sync job too.

  3. The inauguration was wonderful.

Kelly Clarkson’s performance was great and so was Beyonce’s lip syncing!

Who goes to these things to hear stars sing? FFS David!

Although that Brooklyn choir was amazing.

  4. Apparently Tommy James and the Shondells played their song “I Think We’re Alone Now” for Romney and Paul Ryan on Monday.

  5. Most of these things are lip-synced to make sure they don’t balls it up on the day.

Also forget Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson. James Taylor was there.

  6. Plus very large arenas, make for atrocious acoustics under any normal circumstance.

  7. Wouldn’t it be more stressfull to try and mime completely in sync with the recording than to just sing the song ?

  8. Without serious enhancement, the human voice is gonna sound pretty sad in a football arena or something like that.

Maybe all these mega concerts are lip synced

  9. She faked the singing and Barry ‘Aitch faked the oath on a bible he doesn’t believe in. should have asked to be sworn on his Koran.

  10. I would imagine these things are such that no one dare make a mistake so you do the lowest risk strategy.
