Labour Party leader Red Ed Miliband channeled the spirit of socialism at his conference over the past few days as he laid out instance after instance of iron STATE CONTROL he would enact if the British people are crazy enough to ever return his Party into government. To summarise, here is his menu to grow the State;
1. The State will tell energy companies that they cannot raise their prices for 20 months.
2. Property developers will be told that they either build on their land banks or they will lose their property.
3. Large employers will be forced to employ apprentices for every non EU worker they hire.
In addition to this, taxes are going up on business and extra taxes on the Banks. Welfare will also increase, naturally.
THIS, says Miliband, is how we can make Britain great again.
I think any considered observer will see this as a clear expression of socialism, dressed up in as much populism as can be managed, with the hope that the electorate will buy it.
Frankly, I doubt it. The genius of Blair was that he distanced Labour from its socialist roots and pretended that there was a “third way” (there isn’t, of course, but it made for a good line that he sold well) but Comrade Ed takes the line that LEFT is ok so long as the people choose it and so he is giving them it in buckets.
Watch each of his keynote policies dissolve in the days ahead as the economic incoherence underlying them is exposed.
