Who Are More Intolerant? Liberals or Conservatives?
By ATWadmin On July 31st, 2008I think Liberals are far more intolerant than Conservatives, or Republicans. A few small examples: as a resident of “Hollywood,” a Conservative, and a Republican, I have been humiliated at dinner parties when like-minded liberals whisper in front of me regarding my “unsavory” political beliefs. Driving around town with a Republican bumper sticker is an invitation for a car “keying” and rude hand gestures. I know Boy Scouts who have been called “Nazis” because they were wearing their uniforms. … I could go on, but I won’t.
Orson Bean was a Communist in Hollywood during the 1950’s and is now a conservative Republican. Orson Bean agrees with me regarding the intolerance of the present-day Liberal. Quoting Orson, Andrew Breitbart writes:
“When the blacklist hit, I saw actors walk across the street to avoid me. The doorman at 485 Madison Avenue (former CBS headquarters) turned his back as I walked by. But I never felt hated by the ring-wing blacklisters. They just felt we were terribly wrong,” he said.
“These days, the left doesn’t just disagree with right-wingers – they hate them. People actually shudder when I tell them I’m a Republican. I should have to carry a bell and yell, ‘unclean.’ It doesn’t bother me, though. I’ve been on both ends. Being hated is like voodoo. It only works if you feel hated. And I just won’t. I know it will pass.”

This is Mork calling Orson…
Orson you are one mixed up individual! But then that’s politics American style I guess.
Patty
The idea that there is no hatred on the right for those on the left is laughable. Just think of the bile poured out daily by the likes of Rush Limbaugh for starters.
Bush Derangement syndrome is a manifestation of the left mentality.
Bush Derangement syndrome is a manifestation of the left mentality.
Just as Gore derangement syndrome is characteristic of Rightworld USA.
Peter: "Just as Gore derangement syndrome is characteristic of Rightworld USA"
But Gore is an lying anti science demagogue. And a hypocryte making money out of his Carbon offset scam.
Gore doesn’t sell offsets. Nice of you to prove Peter’s point though.
But Gore is an lying anti science demagogue.
I think you’re mixing him up with Rush Limbaugh.
APL: Pay no attention to Frank. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. (or, worse, he is intentionally obfuscating your point about Gore and Gore’s profiteering on the global warming hoax)
Gore owns shares, and sits on the board of a company called Generation Investment Management (GIM), in a company that invests in "offsets," among other things. From GIM’s website:
"Generation is an independent, private, owner-managed partnership established in 2004 and with offices in London and Washington, D.C.
Generation has built a global research platform to integrate sustainability research into fundamental equity analysis. We focus on the economic, environmental, social, and governance risks and opportunities that can materially affect a company’s ability to sustain profitability and deliver returns. Our research plays an important role in forming our views on the quality of the business, the quality of management, and valuation.
Our preference for performance-based fees aligns our interests with that of our clients and is typically based on long-term performance.
Our Advisory Board, convened by our Chairman the Hon. Al Gore, helps set our long-term thematic research agenda into global sustainability issues, including climate change, poverty and development, ecosystem services and biodiversity, water scarcity, pandemics, demographics and migration, and urbanization."
Peter: made me laugh..
It’s always amusing when the free market fundies are the very ones who don’t understand the first thing about how a market works.
Poor Patty doesn’t know the difference between buying and selling, and thinks that costs are the same as investments.
Frank: Well, I do happen to know the diff. between an expense line item, and equity – and unlike you I don’t try to confuse issues by focusing on the immaterial.
Patty, if you really believe that Gore is getting rich by buying offsets, why don’t you try it yourself. Take all your money, sell your house, and spend it all on offsets. See how rich you get.
But let me save you the trouble. When you buy offsets all you get is offsets. You don’t get to keep the money you spend on them. Buying offsets is no more of a get rich scam than buying your lunch.
Frank: Silly boy!
1. He’s getting rich by running a company which will sell "offsets" to other people – not himself! As you point out, offsets are – well – imaginary. So, he sells imaginary "offsets" and in return, he gets real currency.
2. He BUYS offsets from his own company so that he can tell people that he "carbon neutral." This doesn’t make him rich but it does allow him to have a monster-size house, multiple SUVS, private plane, etc. and at the same time deny that he has a huge carbon footprint.
Patty,
"1. He’s getting rich by running a company which will sell "offsets" to other people – not himself! "
No he isn’t. Gore doesn’t sell offsets and GIM doesn’t sell offsets either. In fact GIM buys offsets, not just for Gore but for GIM employees.
As I said, you too can try this ‘scam’. Form a company and have it buy lots of offsets. See how rich you get.
Frank: From the GIM website:
"Our preference for performance-based fees aligns our interests with that of our clients and is typically based on long-term performance."
No matter how you slice it, Frank, Al Gore is seeking to make money off the global warming scam.
Patty,
"Frank: From the GIM website:
"Our preference for performance-based fees aligns our interests with that of our clients and is typically based on long-term performance."
GIM charges its clients fees? What a shocker.
But it still doesn’t sell them offsets, which was your claim.
"No matter how you slice it, Frank, Al Gore is seeking to make money off the global warming scam."
Except that global warming is not Al Gore’s theory, but a working theory of scientists all over the world who (contrary to your botched ad hom smears of Gore) have zero connection to either Al Gore or GIM and certainly aren’t in it for the bucks.
For your next exposé, I know of companies and individuals that are making money out of Newton’s laws of motion, the theory of electromagnetism, the physics of semiconductors and the germ theory of disease. So you must think those are all ‘scams’ too, right?
