Trump Thinks that Korea Used to be part of China!!

By Phantom On April 21st, 2017

The monstrously ignorant Trump has been quoted as saying that Korea was once a part of China.

Koreans are ferociously independent people. They’re not Chinese, they’re not Japanese, they’ve paid a high price over the centuries to be Korean.

Koreans are enraged at Trump for making such an ignorant and undiplomatic comment, one perhaps fed to him by the Chinese PM.

I said months ago that this excuse for a president knew –nothing– of Asia.

He has just made one of the biggest gaffes that one could imagine. Even if Korea was once part of China ( it was not ); noone with any knowledge of Korean sensibilities would have said such a thing.

  2. where is the quote?

  3. Trump said it to the Wall Street Journal last week, just coming out now everywhere

The Chinese PM played Trump for a complete idiot, and succeeded.

You have no idea how this will anger the proud Koreans

I wait for the pom pom brigade here to try to justify this statement in some way.

This is a level of ignorance that is simply unimaginable.

  5. He has just made one of the biggest gaffes that one could imagine.

The biggest gaffe ever made, was invading Iraq.

South Korea’s government on Thursday sought to correct President Trump, publicly declaring it was never part of China.

“It’s a clear fact acknowledged by the international community that, for thousands of years of history, Korea has never been part of China,” foreign ministry spokesman Cho June Hyuck said Thursday in Seoul, according to Bloomberg News.

  7. Iraq was a deadly error for all the ages, this is ” only ” evidence of chauvinism by the Chinese PM ( who fed Trump the remark ) and the monstrously stupid Trump, who naively repeated it.

  8. Give it 20 years, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who believed London used to be part of England.

  9. So Trump passed on what his Ivy League interpreter said that Xi said. For this, Trump is the dumbest bum evah.

Phantom – chill. They all look alike anyway.

  10. I’ve known Koreans for a long time. As a teenager, I worked in a Korean store.

They are proud of their nation as being distinct ( not superior, but distinct ) in a way that few modern Europeans could begin to understand.

This type of error makes the Chinese and especially the Americans look stupid. No high school student who ever took an Asian history class would make this error.

He then went into the history of China and Korea. Not North Korea, Korea. And you know, you’re talking about thousands of years …and many wars. And Korea actually used to be a part of China. And after listening for 10 minutes I realized that not — it’s not so easy. You know I felt pretty strongly that they have — that they had a tremendous power over China. I actually do think they do have an economic power, and they have certainly a border power to an extent, but they also — a lot of goods come in. But it’s not what you would think. It’s not what you would think. [WSJ break in transcript]

  12. //He has just made one of the biggest gaffes that one could imagine//

    There have been others

Reagan once said that there had been two Vietnams, north and south, existing as separate nations for centuries.

  13. Meanwhile, liberal presidents are all geopolitical geniuses, historians, cultured and all-wise. It’s just like the West Wing, which was not propaganda.

  14. //liberal presidents are all geopolitical geniuses, historians, cultured and all-wise.//

    Not all of them.

And not complete geniuses either, just much more intelligent and better informed than most Republicans, which of course isn’t saying much.

  15. I doubt very much that a guy like Trump read an essay on Asian history, much less a book about it.

Guys like Obama and Clinton had significant curiousity about the world, which people like GWB and Trump did not.

  16. Well there’s your problem. If liberal presidents were a bit more curious about America, Americans might stop replacing them with Republicans.

Obama probably knew more about Kenya and Indonesia than about the 57 states.

  17. The last ten presidents have included five Democrats and five Republicans

The last nine elected presidents have included five Democrats and four Republicans ( Ford was not elected to the office )

    The pendulum swings here.

  18. Phantom –

I know the pattern. It’s one reason why I predicted Trump’s win with stunning accuracy.

Two-term GOPs followed by two-term Dems are the norm. It’s the baked-in pattern. The single-term presidents are the anomalies. For this reason alone Trump is likely to be a two-term president, and it will take extraordinary events to prevent it.

  19. sometimes simplicity can be good though
if you asked Trump about Ireland he’d likely say
“how can you split a small country like that?, I mean look at the size of it ..
.. its been a complete disaster , the British have been terrorizing that country for too long.. I told that to Prime Munster Trisha May last month, …of course it should be one country ..The Brits need to get outa there, its costing a fortune .. for what “

  20. jude –

It looks like he’d have said that Ireland was once part of the UK, and he’d have been right.

  21. Korea and China have long histories.

Some think that ” China ” back in the day was part of ” Korea “.

He stepped into the fire ants here.

  22. I wonder, when Theresa May told him of her concerns about another Scottish refererndum, did he tell her that Scotland was once part of Ireland?

  23. Phantom (and other people who object to Russia’s supposed meddling in US presidential elections) –

What do you make of Obama nakedly meddling in France’s presidential election?

  26. North Korea has a short border with Russia as well as its long one with China. Russia has moved troops to it this week. No refugees will be allowed into Russia, if there is war.

  27. Russians have enough problems with chinese infiltration into their far east without even harder core commies sneaking in.

  28. Please.

    Keep underestimating Trump.

I sincerely hope the Left – comedians and propagandists – keep up the inane patter, underestimating Trump.

  29. I bet in his unguarded conversations, the Chinese prime minister speaks of China one day taking over the lightly populated Russian Far East. Put in the genius is thinking a great deal about his western borders, when he might want to start thinking about his eastern border

  30. Patty

Yes the entire nation of South Korea consists of leftists

  31. PeteM, yeah the tricky things about that idea is something called the Irish Sea
take a look at the map sometime, that’s alot of water between 2 separate land masses buster !
CSE Geography fail for you son .

  32. Carry on with the nonsense, Phantom. It’s working out so well. 🙂

  33. I am convinced that Trump’s greatest gift is that people constantly underestimate him…and I don’t doubt that he knows this.

I know his detractors will disagree and disregard this – at least you all have been enlightened.

    And he is winning, btw.

  34. And he is winning, btw.

He is? How many u-turns this month?

Apart from Russia, China, Syria, Nato and Obamacare. And sacking “America First” Bannon from the NSC.

Trump has made another goof – calling the body of water between Korea and Japan the “Sea of Japan ” – which is definitely not what the Koreans call it. Koreans notice things like that.

    http://m.koreatimes.co.kr/pad/

The Koreans are mystified and unhappy with trump over for a number of issues ( of competence, really )

The Korea times is that country’s largest English language newspaper, end it is closely tied to one of the countries largest Korean language newspapers

Yes Phantom. He would annoy the Brits just as much if he referred to the North Sea as the German Ocean:

“The North Sea, though often an area of conflict, has an extensive history of maritime commerce and trade routes between its coastal nations whose economies and industries were also able to exploit its resources. The earliest records of Roman explorations of the sea begin in 12 BC….

One of the earliest recorded names was Septentrionalis Oceanus, or “Northern Ocean” which was cited by Pliny.[2] However, the Celts who lived along its coast referred to it as the Morimaru, the “dead sea”, which was also taken up by the Germanic peoples, giving Morimarusa.[3] This name may refer to the dead water patches resulting from a layer of fresh water sitting on top of a layer of salt water making it quite still.[4] Names referring to the same phenomenon lasted into the Middle Ages, e.g., Old High German mere giliberōt and Middle Dutch lebermer or libersee. Other common names in use for long periods were the Latin terms Mare Frisicum,[5] Oceanum- or Mare Germanicum[6] as well as their English equivalents, “Frisian Sea”,[7] “German Ocean”,[8] “German Sea”[9] and “Germanic Sea” (from the Latin Mare Germanicum).[10][11]”

It was still Korea though, albeit Chinese-occupied Korea, much like Ireland, although occupied by England, was, and still is, Ireland.
