WHY BEAUTY MATTERS

By Pete Moore On September 30th, 2017

“Beauty is a value, as important as truth or goodness.”

No, it’s not you; modern art is not art. It is anti-art, the aim of which is to obliterate beauty. I’ve been watching this classic bit of TV, written and presented by the great conservative philosopher Roger Scruton. It’s hard to believe that the BBC aired it. Their cultural gauleiters would certainly blackball Scruton’s masterpiece today.

Conservatism is the true counter-culture. In 2017, this great piece of public broadcasting must be considered samizdat

  1. All good things are being destroyed, such as beauty – as seen in Pete’s link. Honesty is a quality being destroyed, and here is a clear indication of who is doing it…..

    http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/5345/jewish/Kol-Nidre.htm

Kol Nidrei, the prayer which ushers in the holy day of Yom Kippur, is perhaps the most famous one in our liturgy. Ironically, it is not really a prayer at all, but rather a statement. A statement that deals with promises, vows and other sorts of verbal commitments commonly made in the course of the year. The Torah places strict demands on keeping one’s word, and not fulfilling a vow is considered a serious misdeed.

OK – keeping one’s word is important but a get-out is even more important 🙂

Kol Nidre, which means “all vows”, nullifies the binding nature of such promises in advance. One declares all future vows and promises invalid, by declaring that all vows are “absolved, remitted, cancelled, declared null and void, not in force of in effect.”

Yes – they are the same as those who run pornography, degenerate art, money-as-debt etc. Every fcuknig time…….

  2. Honesty is a quality being destroyed

Yes indeed Allan. Trump has told thousands of lies in the past two years and is continuing to lie on a daily basis.

  3. Peter –

If Trump has benefited from lying, the problem doesn’t originate with Trump but with politics and wider society.

Give Scruton a view. His work is a refreshing antidote to many modern lies.

  4. Allan

Hugh Hefner just passed onto that playboy mansion in the sky. he would have been The number one world figure in what you would refer to as Pornography. Was he Jewish?

The best American big bank by a mile, the one that was not injured by the market failure in 2008, it’s JP Morgan Chase. It is run by the excellent Jamie Simon. Is he Jewish?

You may want to start doing some research on some of the things you talk about

  5. Beauty is eternal, as is Allan’s preoccupation with “the chosen people “

  6. It’s hard to believe that the BBC aired it. Their cultural gauleiters would certainly blackball Scruton’s masterpiece today.

But the fact is that the BBC did air it. And not that long ago, either: 2009. Back in 2009 you were decrying the BBC as cultural Marxists, just as you are now. Scruton is still a regular contributor to the BBC. Notably, no other broadcaster invites him, ever. Neither ITV, Sky, Channel 4 nor any other commercial station would begin to consider broadcasting such a programme. The BBC did. And they still would today. Sky wouldn’t. Nor would any broadcaster in the private-enterprise-only world you dream of.

A moronic and utterly philistine remark. ‘Modern art’ cannot be lumped together in that way. Some is ‘modernist’, some is Classical and quite traditional in its representation of the world, some is abstract/conceptual. Plenty of ‘modern’ art looks like the art of 200 years ago. Your take on the subject is a knee-jerk reaction from somebody who knows nothing of art, and cares less. Except in as much as it gives you something to dislike. What an utterly joyless existence yours must be.

  7. Honesty is a quality being destroyed

    Absolutely. It’s destroyed here regularly.

    Exactly.

  9. The BBC is the best broadcaster in the world.

  10. “Phantom, on October 1st, 2017 at 7:09 AM Said:

In an alternate Universe, possibly: in our world? Nope.

  11. The BBC was forced to air it. This one of six programmes, forming the BBC’s “Modern Beauty” season. The other five come from a modern perspective. This was one, token, contribution on actual art and beauty. It was a token attempt at fairness. The BBC would never have simply aired it as a stand alone programme. I actually doubt that it would be aired today under any circumstances.

  12. My own views can be found, and examined, here.

  13. Who to you is the best broadcaster ?

Hi from Dublin city center on way to airport

  14. What an extraordinary programme: so much truth and so much to ponder. One yearns for similar in a world of broadcast dross today. At the close, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater was a moving tribute to beauty, and the least the BBC could have done would have been to allow its listeners to hear the end, followed by short and necessary pause. To have an advert for unrelated programme to destroy the moment is unforgivable.

  15. The BBC was forced to air it.

That’s right, Pete. They were forced to commission, fund, produce and broadcast a programme they didn’t at any stage want to air.

In fact, they hated it so much that they then allowed Sir Roger to express exactly the same views in a three-part radio series some five years later, to a much larger audience. And then published the scripts online.

You really are a f***ing cretin sometimes. At what point do you admit you’re being intellectually dishonest?

  16. masterson –

The BBC is forced, by law, to be fair and impartial. It occasionally and begrudgingly seeks to stay within the law. In promoting deconstructionist nonsense with five programmes, it can claim to be fair and impartial with the one effort by Roger Scruton.

  17. That’s right, Pete. They were forced to commission, fund, produce and broadcast a programme they didn’t at any stage want to air.

Has anyone checked to compare the dates?.

Maybe the BBC charter was up for discussion/renewal.

Don’t hold your breath on that one masterson. I’ve been trying to get Pete to do that for years. In fact, I’m trying to get into his missus dishonesty on another thread.
For a man who likes to moan so much about bias and fake news, he’s actually the king of it himself.

  19. *admit his dishonesty

  20. Dave.

I know I am taking this out of context, but it’s funny anyway ..

I’ve been trying to get Pete to do that for years. In fact, I’m trying to get into his missus

I don’t think Pete is even married. 😂

  21. Dave –

Watch the video. You’ll learn a few things.

  22. The BBC is forced, by law, to be fair and impartial

Yes, a requirement that applies specifically to news and current affairs. It does not, however, apply to arts coverage, where the BBC can do as it likes. Your pig-ignorance really does know no bounds.

In a world where the BBC didn’t exist, Roger Scruton wouldn’t be on TV or radio, ever. I’ll leave you with that thought.

  23. The BBC is the best broadcaster in the world

If not the best Phantom certainly very close to it.

  24. My own views can be found, and examined, here.

And can be summarised as “I don’t like or understand this, therefore it is bad.”

A parochial view that can be heard at any small town Rotary or Golf club in the land.

Scruton is highly intelligent and is always worth reading or listening to. His case is based on rigorous aesthetic and intellectual grounds. But “I don’t get it” is the pathetic get-out of a retired accountant who never had much time for art, but knows what he likes. Just because you don’t have the intellectual or aesthetic capacity to understand something doesn’t mean that the people who do are wrong.

  25. Harri:

Has anyone checked to compare the dates?.

Maybe the BBC charter was up for discussion/renewal.

Yes. The BBC charter was renewed in 2007 for a ten-year term, two years before the broadcast of this series. Conspiracy theorists looking for a reason for the broadcast of this programme will have to swallow the fact that they voluntarily gave Roger Scruton an hour of national TV airtime to make his arguments unfettered.

As I will point out till I am blue in the face, no commercial broadcaster has made a programme with such a refreshing thesis in living memory.

And I’ll repeat the question Pete seems happy to ignore: in a world without the BBC, who would make such a programme? Answer: nobody.

  26. Masterson.

Reference the BBC, I pay my TV tax licence, begrudgingly, but only to a point, please, let me explain, I personally believe Aunty Beeb, makes first class programmes, and very much enjoy watching those drama’s, – the begrudging part kicks in, on the BBC’s political stance. There is no way on this earth, not even remotely, that the BBC are a “non-bias” organisation, they don’t even attempt to hide that fact, they might waffle on about non-partisan political views, but we all know they are not.

Would I still pay the TV tax if I had the choice?

Probably not, purely because of the political bias which oozes out of the BBC, I would cancel my subscription for a year or so, with the hope that maybe things might possibly change, we have plenty other channels to get on with.

  27. That’s all perfectly valid, Harri. My beef isn’t with your views on the BBC, it’s with Pete’s intellectual dishonesty in praising Scruton’s film while having a dig at the broadcaster that not only made the film but continues to employ Scruton as a regular pundit.

He’d have a point if Scruton had a regular gig on commercial stations while the BBC blackballed him. But the fact is that the BBC is the only broadcaster that continues to give him a platform. Only a fortnight ago he was given half an hour on Radio 4 to explain his hostility to the EU.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0939wgl

Many of us (myself included) accept that the BBC sometimes fails in its brief to be politically impartial. But for Pete to state that “their cultural gauleiters would certainly blackball Scruton’s masterpiece today” is patent bollocks, given the plentiful evidence of his continuing employment by them.

I’m sure that the fact of jewish control of pornography and its purpose has been shown previously:

    https://www.darkmoon.me/2014/pornography-as-a-secret-weapon-by-lasha-darkmoon/

Who are the richest and most successful entrepreneurs of the $100 billion year porn industry? [1] The peddlers of pornography belong to all races, but one race above all stands out as preeminent in this field. Selling sex, like slave trafficking and moneylending, has always been a Jewish speciality.
Jewish academic Dr Nathan Abrams: “Though Jews make up only 2 percent of the American population, they dominate porn.”

Jewish academic historian Dr Nathan Abrams (right), perhaps the world’s most renowned authority on the Jewish role in pornography, let the cat out of the bag a few years ago in his controversial essay, Triple-Exthnics. [2]

Published in the prestigious Jewish Quarterly in 2004, this essay spelled out in detail how the world’s multibillion dollar porn industry was dominated by Jews.

In exactly the same way that jews dominate money, there will be those who are either unaware of, or collaborative with, those who provide the water in which they swim, such as Hugh Hefner and Jamie Dimon.

And now, imagine if I’d said “I hope that Hitler did kill the jews – I’d do it again in a second”? Here’s exactly that scenario…….

And those who set up and control the degradation of art are the same…….every fucking time
