Besides Politics

By ATWadmin On November 29th, 2008

I have a passion for Graphic Novels, in other words Mega Comic Books. I have been a fan since I was a wee yonker. Before my reading became obsessed with history I read comic books still do today except the ones I read are now called Graphic novels.

My favorite has always been the Batman. In an article I saw in the Sun they say they are going to kill him off. I find this quite disturbing especially in the manner that they are choosing.

THE world’s most famous comic book hero has breathed his last Bat breath.

Bruce Wayne – who by night is Batman – gets murdered by a man claiming to be the father he thought was dead.

I find the whole thing very disturbing. Below is one of my very first posts as a Blogger. I hope you enjoy or at least comment.

The True symbol of The US

The true symbol that represents the US is not uncle Sam, or the Eagle. The Flag may be our label but the symbol of the Heart of America is embodied in one of our comic book hero’s. The Batman. Think about it he is just a man after all yet he fights for what he feels is right. He doesn’t fight fair, he scares the hell out of those that he chooses to oppose. No super powers, just determination, an unbreakable will, a lot of really neat high tech gadgets. and the willingness to get bloody in the fight for justice. With an inner heart that truly believes that he can make a difference along with the understanding that he must do what he does because he can. Like him we are viewed as the vigilante and like him we don’t care because the rules weren’t made so as to allow evil to get away with evil even though that is how other nations seem to want to apply those rules. So you must sometimes break the rules for what is good and right. the end can justify the means.

  1. The true symbol is a comic book hero. Sorry, can’t go with that.

  2. because you don’t understand what he represents

  3. The True symbol of The US

    LOL

  4. The True symbol of The US

    LOL

Remember these comic reading men were just on another thread hiding, with their Irish passports, waiting until the hard work is done, and then coming out of hiding:
    TO KICK ASS!!!!

    LOL

  5. Perhaps this is the true symbol of the USA…..

MADAME PELOSI [Speaker of the House]

Want an example why our country is in trouble?

And they want to talk about Sarah’s wardrobe. Liberal democrats are sick people.

MADAME PELOSI [Speaker of the House]

Madame Pelosi wasn’t happy with the small private jet that comes with the Speaker’s job, no, Madame Pelosi was aggravated that this little jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat 200 seat jet that could get her back to California without stopping!

Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as they were informed what Nancy’s Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American tax payers, thousands of gallons of fuel every week.

Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California, cost to the taxpayers of about $60,000, one way!

Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday night. Cost to us another $60,000.

Folks, that is $480,000 per month and that is an annual cost to the taxpayers of $5,760,000. No wonder she complains about the cost of this war, it might cramp her style and she is styling, on my back and yours.

I think of the military families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the most do-nothing Congress in the history of this country, keeps fueling that jet while doing nothing.

Madame Pelosi wants you and I to conserve our carbon footprint. She wants us to buy smaller cars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our tires.

Nancy Pelosi is nuts. No I take that back—-the people who voted her into office are nuts.

  6. Hahahahaha – nice one Pinky. *LMAO*

  7. Pinky

Do ask the barman to cut you off. You’re all over the place today.

Tell you what, we’ll call you a taxi at no charge.

I like Batman, but he’s not any symbol of the US. He’s one of the great characters of all time though. And IMHO the only good one that DC Comics had ( Superman was not really human ) , while Marvel Comics had a bunch of great, flawed heroes ( Spiderman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, and the now forgotten Daredevil ). Without the flaw/weakness, you don’t have a character.

  8. Drunken Cyclist will approve of Obama’s wish and get a pump to put air in the tires of his bike……

  9. William
Pelosi is the darkside of the force….lol

  10. ‘Pinky

Do ask the barman to cut you off. You’re all over the place today.

Tell you what, we’ll call you a taxi at no charge.’

Tut Tut Phantom. The barman can’t serve me- he is so busy trying to extract the brave lads hiding under the counter waving their Irish Passports shouting : I am a Hero!

    LOL

  11. You’re cut off!

I think that Troll should be bouncer here, and escort you to the door..Eddies Taxis will have a car waiting to take you home. They’ll be there in five minutes.

  12. cmon Phantom she’s the comic relief….

  13. Everyone’s allowed a bad blog day. I had one once, but it was so long ago, I can’t remember.

  14. LOL

  15. Everyone’s allowed a bad blog day. I had one once, but it was so long ago, I can’t remember.

Maybe the last day you admitted to being a coward?

  16. Wow. You really are out of it today. Explain that.

  17. >>The true symbol that represents the US is not uncle Sam, or the Eagle. ..The symbol of the Heart of America is embodied in one of our comic book hero’s. The Batman<<

This reminds me so much of that poem by Adrian Henri

Take me back to Gotham City,
    Batman
Take me where the girls are pretty
    Batman
    All those damsels in distress
    Half-undressed or even less
The Batpill makes ‘em all say YES!
    Batman

    Help us out in Vietnam
    Batman
    Help us drop that Bat-napalm
    Batman
Help us bomb those jungle towns
    Spreading pain and death around
Coke ‘n candy wins ‘em round
    Batman

    Help us smash the Vietcong
    Batman
Help us show them that they’re wrong
    Batman
    Help us spread democracy
    Get them high on LSD
Make them just like you and me
    Batman

Show me what I have to do
    Batman
‘Cause I want to be like you
    Batman
Flash your Batsign over Lime Street
    Batmobiles down every crime street
Happy Batday that’s when I’ll meet
    Batman!

  18. noel you’ve eaten to many magic mushrooms haven’t ya…

  19. ‘Wow. You really are out of it today. Explain that.’

Phanton, I am out of nothing today at all. So don’t be wowed at all.

Explain what? That I think that warmongerers on the internet calling for bombing and war all over the place, while they hide behind a passport are a bit cowardly in my view? What is there to expalin about it?

  20. Pinky what do you offer as an alternative to fighting?

  21. I am a great fan of graphic novels – but on the Marvel side! Give me the X-men, Avengers, Hulk or Iron Man. Loved them as a child, still do. Some great writing on them (and DC) these days!

  22. ‘Pinky what do you offer as an alternative to fighting?’

Troll, in a justified war, there is no alternative.

It is the justification, we disagree on.

One thing I do know. it takes very brave men and women to go and fight a war.

  23. David, all good choices.

Pinky what then do you call for as justification?

  24. PS Troll – I also picked up on the coming death of The Batman. Last year, Captain America died. Interesting to see how the symbols are being erased…

  25. No one here is calling for " bombing and war all over the place ". You may wish to re-read the entire body of work, the postings and the responses, before you say such silly things.

The discussion in the past days is about the attack on civilians ( and pretty much only civilians ) by Muslims at a location in India and what the response needs to be to that.

There has been a side discussion that has segued into how travelers who fall into the hands of terrorists may choose to protect themselves. Apparently you feel that they should not be able to use any means to protect themselves as you mock both those who propose fighting and those who propose avoiding fighting by means of deception.

If anyone has proposed indiscriminate war, please link to where those comments can be found.

Don’t bother. I didn’t see them, and neither did you.

  26. yeah it’s a trend that I find disturbing David

  27. Pinky what then do you call for as justification?

Troll, for example, I would support special ops strategy in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I always did. 9-11 was justification for such a strategy.

  28. ‘If anyone has proposed indiscriminate war, please link to where those comments can be found.

Don’t bother. I didn’t see them, and neither did you.’

That the nuances of a discussion on what is indiscriminate war escapes you, is no surprise.

You are pissed that someone broke your chops over something you said. That Irish Passport that you hide behind unfortunately does not afford you the talent of understanding ball-breaking, Irish style. Of course, there is always an element of truth in the blaguarding- the measure of your wit is in how you respond to it.

    You get an F.

  29. so you would send small handfulls of men against armies and enemy governments.

Hit teams, so you advocate assisination.

  30. I will always associate Batman with the silly, campy, terrific fun of the tv show and movie of the late 1960s.

Beyond ludicrous, which is what makes it great.

Best part of this clip – the fake "exploding man eating " (rubber) shark that attacks Batman as he hangs on to a helicopter ladder ( at 149 )

  31. ‘so you would send small handfulls of men against armies and enemy governments.

Hit teams, so you advocate assisination.’

The afghani army,LOL Troll. The Pakistani army, is another matter.

I do advocate assassinations- again the qualifier is- when justified.

Do I think Al Quaeda operatives should be assassinated if it is proven they were behind an act of war? Don’t you?

  32. Pinky

You’re exceptionally nasty and mean-spirited today.

And you’re just not making any sense.

    Have a nice day.

  33. ‘Pinky

You’re exceptionally nasty and mean-spirited today.

And you’re just not making any sense.

    Have a nice day.’

Phantom, I am neither nasty nor mean-spirited, and I am making perfect sense about how a war-mongerer /great Patriot that admits to hiding behind a passport, might be thought of as a tad cowardly.

Are you stromping off in another of your childish huffs again?

I usually have a nice day. Today should be no exception. Thank you.

  34. Just trying to get clarification from you pinky, Lets see didn’t the Afghans beet the Russians. Oh and in the case of the Paki army you would then advocate army against army.

Phantom that show represents true horror of what Hollywood can do to character

  35. ‘Just trying to get clarification from you pinky, Lets see didn’t the Afghans beet the Russians. Oh and in the case of the Paki army you would then advocate army against army.’

Yes the Afghans beat the Ruskies. Which only supports my contention, that Al Quaeda operatives should be dealt with, then Afghaistan handled through diplomcay and international efforts. ( which of course is where the West FAILED after supporting what became Al Quaeda after the Ruskie war).

I have a real problem with superpowers bombing thrid world countries and the poor people living in them.

  36. Pinky

You’ve made many absurd comments on this thread, and again have been equally virulent against those who chose confrontation and those who choose to avoid confrontation by means of deception

If that’s not an example of being all over the place ( as well as mean-spirited ) then I don’t know what is.

  37. ‘Pinky

You’ve made many absurd comments on this thread, and again have been equally virulent against those who chose confrontation and those who choose to avoid confrontation by means of deception

If that’s not an example of being all over the place ( as well as mean-spirited ) then I don’t know what is.’

Phantom, don’t you get tired of stomping your feet in your childish hissy fits?

I know I am tired watching you.

  38. so hit teams and diplomacy then you support it when Israel does a strike on the home of known palli terrorists

  39. It is Israel who are the terrorists in the conflict. So any act of Israel’s against the Palenstinians, should be retailiated upon.

  40. It is noted that you’ve not disproven any points made. And its easy to see where the childish comments and belligerence are coming from. All anyone has to do is read this and other threads of today.

It is Israel who are the terrorists in the conflict.

    In the Mumbai "conflict"?

  41. oh it’s Israel that send it’s children onto busses and to self explode…lol

You just summed up your whole lack of credibility with that post….LOL

  42. ‘It is noted that you’ve not disproven any points made. And its easy to see where the childish comments and belligerence are coming from. All anyone has to do is read this and other threads of today.’

It is noted by you Phantom- but then that goes back to the knowledge here that you believe you are always right. So have at it.

You already bid me ‘Have a Nice Day’ about half an hour ago, but here you are, still stomping huffing and puffing. How do the soles of your showes survive all your tantraums.

Why don’t you take a wee break and go hold up your Irish Passport and practice an Irish accent? You’ll feel better, abd save on the shoe damage.

  43. It is Israel who are the terrorists in the conflict. So any act of Israel’s against the Palenstinians, should be retailiated upon.

    Well said, Pinky.

  44. ‘oh it’s Israel that send it’s children onto busses and to self explode…lol

You just summed up your whole lack of credibility with that post….LOL’

What a debating technique you have Troll. It is so….. brave! LOL

  45. Again, all over the place. Mad if I stay, mad if I go. As with the "what to do if threatened by terrorists" thing, you’re enraged at any possible response.

My cosmic karma calculator shows me that it pisses you off more to stay.

You’re a terribly bitter woman. Why on earth so?

  46. Israel fire rockets, which on impact send tiny darts flying in all directions, into densely populated areas. These can and do kill men, women and children. What would you call that?

  47. Pinky and Phantom – Get a bloody room already!!!

  48. Troll – Batman likes to go out at night cruising in costume with a young man that lives with him (whom he calls the boy wonder), he has a butler, likes to drive his "batmobile" into a "cave" and his name is Bruce.

    Holy Gaydar Batman!

Now Superman is cool, I advise you to give a listen to the Crash Test Dummies Song Superman for the 411.

  49. ‘Again, all over the place. Mad if I stay, mad if I go.’

Mad? Phantom, I couldn’t care less, but you did announce ‘Have a Nice Day"= doesn’t that indicate your departure from the conversation?

‘My cosmic karma calculator shows me that it pisses you off more to stay. ‘

No, it amuses me Phantom. Because I’ll be heading off in a minute to other things.

‘You’re a terribly bitter woman. Why on earth so?’

Not a bitter bone in me body Phantom. No reason to, my life and family are complete, accomplished and happy.

But Why do you feel the need to believe so though? I have seen you say such things to various people- why is that? Projection?

  50. I could understand the (ahem) dispute better if it was something serious being debated. Here we have someone clearly capable of good debate and who has a decent knowledge of some subjects who has become enraged over a nothing.

I could be entering into a debate with Osama himself, or the top dog of the Hezbollah gang, and neither would choose to be angry over these things, which do not concern her and which are essentially not relevant to any of the larger issues at hand ( Mumbai, War on Terror, The Arab-Israeli conflict )

Funny. Funny strange not funny ha ha.

    mahons

Yes, duly noted. The Batman TV show is beyond absurd, and the points you make are noted. It is great art precisely because it is such complete trash.

  51. I could be entering into a debate with Osama himself, or the top dog of the Hezbollah gang

Shows how little you understand. These are the most calm, rational, calculating people imaginable.

has become enraged over a nothing

Come off it Ghost, she clearly is not enraged!

Not a bitter bone in me body Phantom. No reason to, my life and family are complete, accomplished and happy. But Why do you feel the need to believe so though? I have seen you say such things to various people- why is that? Projection?

    Ohhhh, bet that hurt!

  52. ‘I could understand the (ahem) dispute better if it was something serious being debated. Here we have someone clearly capable of good debate and who has a decent knowledge of some subjects who has become enraged over a nothing. ‘

I agree Phantom. You are capable of debating some things, not a lot, but some. But becoming enraged over being called out for admitting to your cowardice is so bizarre to me. I mean, its not like I said "Phantom has an Irish passport so he can pretend he is not American if he comes in contact with a terrorist"- that was you, and others.

You should calm down, stop projecting your shortcomings onto others, and enjoy your Saturday.

    I know I am.

  53. ‘Come off it Ghost, she clearly is not enraged!’

If only you knew how many in this house have read this cowardice conversation and are roaring laughing!

Clearly Phantom has NO understanding nor a titter of wit.
He huffed at a bit of blaguarding, shows you the wit he has.

    Anyway….. that’s life.

  54. Troll -

It must be a slow news-day, today, for you post that! It leaves you wide open to some ribaldry even though the sentiments are honest enough.
Did you know, for example, that it was required viewing for US astronauts, prior to the first moon landing, to be fully versed in the adventures of ‘Star Trek’….just in case they encountered aliens, and how to behave towards them. True.

Batman – is he required reading at ‘West Point’ I ask myself?

  55. DC

You miss my point entirely, as does the shrieking Pinky.

I am, for the first and perhaps only time, referring favorably to Osama and to the drug dealer Nasrallah. They would be more rational than Pinky has been today.

The Islamic gangs under discussion are evil, but are somewhat rational. Pinky is not evil, but neither is she rational.

They would argue over things of importance, and Pinky has picked an unnecessary fight over a nothing.

  56. the drug dealer Nasrallah

Never heard that claim before. I’m not saying it’s not true but where did you hear that?

  57. DC

From many sources over the years.

Many of the bad guys in the world are linked in surprising ways. (One of the reasons I took a hard stance when the Three Stooges were found in Colombia. I had my suspicions about the true purpose of that visit )

Hezbollah has also been linked to the hashish trade in and from the Middle East, including the hash trade in Israel. Which led to a hash/pot boycott by Israeli potheads who wanted to stop funding Hezbollah and its warmaking.

Hezbollah has a very comfortable and mutually profitable arrangement with the drugs producers and traffickers in the Bekka Valley of Lebanon.

  58. shrieking Pinky.

    Projecting again Phantom?

  59. All hearsay in those links, amigo. Still, it might be true but those links don’t convince me.

I support Hizbollah btw. They have integrity, fight genuinely for their people, run hospitals, schools, clinics etc. Military action is a small percentage of what they do.

Three Stooges were found in Colombia

All back here in Ireland now sitting by their nice warm fires! And well for them, I wish them a happy and comfortable Christmas.

  60. DC

What types of links would convince you?

  61. Ones that contained evidence, not

"Colombia drug ring may link to Hezbollah"

    or

"Even the powerful Hezbollah chooses to turn a blind eye to the criminal activities in its Bekaa stronghold rather than risk the enmity of the tribes"

Sorry chum, it doesn’t make Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah a drug dealer!

  62. There’s a great deal of evidence for those who look for it with an open mind. I don’t deny that Hezbollah does the social service things you mention. But some of the funding for that apparatus comes from drugs.

    ——

SOFIA (Reuters) – Profits from drugs trafficking through Bulgaria have been used to fund organizations like Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad, the parliamentary security commission said on Tuesday.

Bulgarian crime groups trading in synthetic drugs and Arabs linked to militant groups had been cooperating in the trafficking, said the draft report obtained by Reuters and due to be debated in parliament this week.

"Part of the money accumulated from drugs trafficking are being used to fund terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad," said the report. It gave no further details.

Lebanese Hezbollah, a guerrilla group backed by Iran, fought a 34-day war in 2006 against Israel. Islamic Jihad is a Palestinian militant group sworn to destroying Israel.

Bulgaria lies on one of the main drug trafficking routes between Europe and southwest Asia.

There is growing pressure on Bulgaria’s Socialist-led government at home and from the European Union to get serious about fighting rampant organized crime and graft.

  63. "Arabs linked,/b> to militant groups had been cooperating in the trafficking, said the draft report obtained by Reuters and due to be debated in parliament this week.

    [my emphasis]

As I said, not airtight, but my mind is indeed open.

  64. Ok, should have been:

"Arabs linked, to militant groups had been cooperating in the trafficking, said the draft report obtained by Reuters and due to be debated in parliament this week.

    [my emphasis]

As I said, not airtight, but my mind is indeed open.

  65. Sorry chum, it doesn’t make Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah a drug dealer!

spoken like a true believer DC

  66. Troll – Perhaps you could point me to evidence that proves it?

Sorry, I forgot I’m talking to somebody whose hero is Batman! Enough said…

  67. We could show him a tape of Nasrallah packing the hashish into a packing crate himself, and still DC would not believe it.

Hezbollah does well by the drugs trade, as does now the Taliban –who once were very good in stamping it out in areas under their control.

And in fairness plenty of warlords in Afghanistan who are nominally at least allied with Karzai are freely growing poppies.

  68. We could show him a tape of Nasrallah packing the hashish into a packing crate himself,

You would if you could but you can’t!

DC You demoed that one well.

  69. I love this bit:

"Part of the money accumulated from drugs trafficking are being used to fund terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad," said the report. It gave no further details.

Lebanese Hezbollah, a guerrilla group backed by Iran, fought a 34-day war in 2006 against Israel."

So, defending your country in open combat against an invader who came and killed, amonst others, hundreds of civilians makes you a terrorist!

It sounds like a parody of the American pro-Israel crowd.

  70. Noel

    Speaking of parody

If people from another country were firing missiles into yours, you’d be cool with that right?

  71. It certainly does, Noel.

Phantom – Any idea how many Lebanese civilians have been killed by the IDF, say since 1980??

  72. DC

    Too many

Do you oppose the Hezbollah/Hamas practice of firing missiles from civilian areas, including apartment blocks?

  73. I said: "Any idea how many Lebanese civilians have been killed by the IDF, say since 1980??"

I’ll take your response as a ‘no’ then.

Do you oppose the Hezbollah/Hamas practice of firing missiles from civilian areas, including apartment blocks?

There’s no evidence this practice (commonly called ‘shielding’) is widesread, or even that it happens at all.

  74. Yeah

Unfortunately for you, they invented cameras and video have recorded many incidents of this intentional, craven practice.

It happened in Lebanon and it happens in Gaza. It is completely disengenous to say that what has been recorded [barely] "happens at all"

    Noel

There must be a problem with the internets, as I’ve not seen a response to my 8:29 query.

  75. Unfortunately for you

What??? Please explain what on earth you mean.

Phantom, old boy, I almost fell off my seat laughing at those clips. They prove nothing. The first one is laughable, look at the comments under it and you’ll see a lot of people saying ‘hang on, I don’t see any civilians there, how do we know they’re houses?’

I’ve provided you with a report from a serious source (HRW) that deals with the issue. One wonders why you want it to be true so very much!

  76. You can believe the human rights industry all you like.

I give you actual film ( there’s lots more to be found ) and you disbelieve your own eyes.

On television, I’ve seen clips of missiles fired from the roofs of apartment houses. I’m sure that you think that this too is an invention of the evil Jews.

  77. I’m sure that you think that this too is an invention of the evil Jews

A vile comment, Phantom. I just hope you’ll apologise. I’ve never said a word against Jews here or anywhere.

Phantom – You’ve shown grainy video that could be anywhere. You’d laugh at it if I showed it to you as proof of anything and you know it.

  78. You can believe the human rights industry all you like

This comment shows just how bloated you are from all that kookaid drinking. A serious report and you just disregard it for some silly videos that could have been shot in Africa for all I (or you) know.

  79. DC

You’ve taken a completely one sided view, of a type that completely permeates west European leftist circles.

You may not be a Jew hater but probably unconsciously you are taking your talking points from those who clearly are.

Those for whom the only acceptable Israeli response is to do things that would involve the destruction of the Jewish state, sooner or later. That’s Jew hatred on the face of it, from those who don’t question the legitimacy of any country on earth, except for the one small country that has the temerity to have the Star of David on its flag.

Don’t go looking for offense – as we approach the Christmas time of year, I urge you to take an opportunity to re examine some of your attitudes in a place of tranquility.

  80. DC -

Nope, not a serious report at all. HWR simply isn’t a credible source on Israeli matters.

To claim that Hamas and Hezbollah do not launch missiles from residential areas simply isn’t serious.

    Noel Cunningham -

So, defending your country in open combat against an invader who came and killed …

Come now, you’re memory lets you down. Hezbollah attacked Israel, murdered Israelis and kidnapped Israelis prior to Israel’s reaction. In case you missed it, those kidnapped Israelis were murdered and returned home much later in coffins, their families only knowing of their deaths when they saw the coffins delivered on the road where Israel exchanged live prisoners in return.

  81. Phantom – I’m disappointed. You wouldn’t direct such a comment at Noel or others whose opinions are close to my own.

It was a vile and offensive comment. How can you ask me not to look for offense? Also, you are being completely illogical and not addressing my points.

I’ve shown you a report from a serious source (by any standards) which debunks the ‘shielding’ claim. You dismiss it. Then you show me videos which you know very well could be from anywhere and could show something altogether different than what they claim to show. You know this.

In any case I will not engage with you again unless you withdraw that vile remark.

  82. To claim that Hamas and Hezbollah do not launch missiles from residential areas simply isn’t serious

    Prove it.

  83. It’s clear that there is no proof that you will accept and are looking for offense.

There’s been enough illogic on these pages today, you need not be adding to it.

here is another "silly video" from "Africa".

Don’t ask for evidence if you don’t like the conclusions it forces any honest person to reach.

I’m really shocked you pretend to debate this point- where the hell else would Hamas and Hezbollah launch from?

There is a logical ( to an extent ) argument that can be made that since they don’t have the resources that a state has, they have no choice but to hide behind civilians. I would not agree with it, but its an argument that could be made.

Instead, you choose a ludicrous argument that does not pass any logical test.

  84. You suggest I think Jews are evil and claim I’m "looking for offense".

Really disappointed. I find your comment deeply offensive, I’m not looking for anything. That is one slur I will never let go, given European history.

    Bye.

  85. I care not to repeat that history.

    Bye.

  86. DC -

I know this is a pointless exercise, since you ask me to prove that Hezbollah launched missiles at Israel (which is, indiscriminately at Israeli civilians) from residential areas.

All that will satisfy you would be me taking you to southern Lebanon and showing you. Anything less and you’ll demur. But here goes, in anticipation of your denial of what is plain.

I can’t be bothered spending any more time on you and your silly request. There’s more information out there than anyone needs to know that Hezbollah and others have attacked Israeli civilians from residential areas.

  87. DC,

Follow if you can Phantom’s method of posting. First come the weird unsubstantiated claims, supported by even weirder links ( when he can find them), then some anecdotal evidence (meaningless), then he tells you he is right, you are wrong ( everyone is except his Chicky self). Then when you dare disgree with him even then, he will tell you what you think and how you should think it.

While reading his posts today, my wee niece was singing’
"Chick Chick Chick Chick Chickee, lay a little egg for me….."
    You know the one.

  88. Pete

It is pointless–for many here ( DC, Pinky, those whose prejudices on subjects such as a state for the Jews are cast in stone and will never change )

But keep in mind that there are some who are open to fair comment here, both those who comment regularly, and the much larger community who may comment infrequently if at all.

You could take DC and show him a Hezbollah crew actually firing the missile, and you’d be peppered with comments such as "How do you know that missile was not a blank?" , "How do you know it was heading to Israel? Maybe it was going to land in the sea?"

I wish there could be rational debate on this subject, but when people will not believe any direct video evidence, one suspects that there is more than a passionate search for truth and justice at work here. The deep and ancient wells of European antisemitism haven’t dried up yet, and they influence many who are unaware of what influences them.

  89. Phantom -

Yes, agreed. I do wonder sometimes (often) what motivates people.

  90. ‘You could take DC and show him a Hezbollah crew actually firing the missile,’

Well we might need some brave men to do it.

    That rules out two.

    LOL

  91. Pinky

    You’re embarrassing yourself.

  92. Pinky

    You’re embarrassing yourself.

    Phantom, your projection is illuminating.

  93. Its disagreeable to argue with a drunken man. Its more disagreeable to argue with a drunken woman.

I really don’t understand what kind of point you’re trying to make with half of your comments today.

You can be the best commenter here, regardless of where one stands on specific issues. But the repeated personal, nasty, meaningless comments here have poisoned the well to what end?

  94. ‘Its more disagreeable to argue with a drunken woman.’

I have never been drunk in my adult life. It’s not my style.

Your constant attempts to discredit anyone who opposes you or call you out for your crap, are really pathetic Phantom. They are not clever, because you are not clever, but transparent, petty and cowardly.

And they tell an awful lot about you.

"But the repeated personal, nasty, meaningless comments here have poisoned the well to what end?’

You are the only one that has engaged in that technique, as far I can see. It is true now and true everytime someone stands up to your dogmatism and domineering "I am right everyone is wrong" style.

I called you a coward for what you told this board today. I ( and others ) called Pete the same thing- check out the different responses.

    Again, very telling.

You are what I would consider an internet bully, Phantom which of course adds up perfectly with the cowardice in real life.
You have tried this tact with me before and it didn’t work then either.

  95. Shut up Phantom. You are seriously boring.

  96. Pinky

Well, if this is how you behave when you’re sober, I’d hate to see what you are like when you’re drunk. You don’t even have the excuse Winston Churchill had back at that dinner.

Reflexive leftists, especially those who really believe in the urban legends about Cuba, mountains of AIDS corpses in the streets of New York while Ronald Reagan played the violin on top of the Empire State Building, have a hard time fighting fair. Real life continues to bash them in the head.

You obviously never took a course in logic or debate during your time in university, as you here criticized both those who took the position of "fight" and those others who took the position of "don’t fight" in the theoretical discussion "what would you do if you found yourself in a situation when you were threatened by a terrorist"?

Much as I hate to discuss with what can now only be seen as a crazy person, I will the following-

–What was cowardly about any position that I took today or any other day?

–What would be the proper position to take? ( not just for me, but for you or anyone else in an identical situation )

–How does one display courage? By agreeing with your views? By doing what you do? By traveling or not traveling to certain places? By serving in the police or fire brigade or in the military?

Those from the left can dish it out but God they cannot take it. Lets see if you can give a reasoned response to my small number of questions.

I’ll not comment on this time about your own internet history at this time. Let’s see if you can answer these questions with something approaching honesty.

  97. >>If people from another country were firing missiles into yours, you’d be cool with that right?<<

Sorry, Phantom, I was away. Obviously I wouldnt. I think nobody should fire rockets anywhere except into space. If there were open war, however, any force is entitled to defend itself and its territory, including from the roofs of residential buildings if it chooses.
That doesn’t mean it’s right to fire INTO residential areas, of course.

  98. Noel

( and this can only be a difficult question )

If missiles continue to come from residential areas ( as they came from Lebanon into northern Israel then, and from from Gaza into southern Israel, now ) with the apparent full connivance of the local government, then how are the Israelis supposed to put an end to it?

The Israelis pulled out of Gaza, unilaterally, to be repaid by rockets into Sderot and other places. The pullout could have and should have been the start of a new and somewhat hopeful chapter– but Hamas did not want to move on. They wanted the war strategy to continue.

The only alternatives Israel is presented with are a) attack those who attack them ( in "civilian areas" or b) do nothing about these attacks on their own civilian population, or c) send a complaint letter to the UN.

  99. Troll

    Running out soon.

A bit of Batman trivia from deep in the trivia barrel

During the time "Batman" was an immense TV hit, there was also a TV show called The Green Hornet, which featured another crimefighting duo – the Green Hornet, and his sidekick, Kato, who was the Green Hornet’s "Asian manservant" ( hey that was then )

Except that here, the Asian manservant was actually the great martial artist Bruce Lee. As soon as the shows began airing, it became clear that Bruce Lee was the great talent, far superior to anyone else there.

Well, the Green Hornet and Kato ( Bruce Lee ) actually made a cameo appearance on " Batman " and the original plot called for Robin to defeat Kato in a fight. Bruce didn’t like that idea too much. More info inside.

    Good night.

  100. now the green hornet I liked I was big Bruce Lee fan I even studied Jeet Kune Do for awhile…

  101. Phantom, there’s always

    d) enter into direct negotiations with the governments of Syria and Lebanon and with the elected Palestinian leaders with a view to securing an overall peace settlement entailing the abandonment of all occupied territories.

The Arab governments would go for it like mad, the people with even greater haste.
Many fanatics would of course continue to carry out attacks for a certain time; but their popular support would be extremely small and would eventually dry up completely; they would also have no support from neighbouring Arab governments. They would effectively be the Real-Hammas and Real-Hezbollah, and be going nowhere except into historical oblivion.

This result – think of it, peace in the Middle East with security for all countries there! – is in fact all very easily achievable, especially with the new US government, the dawning on many on the right in Israel that a two-state solution is inevitable and the acceptance by most Palestinians that they will never get back their land in Israel proper.

This shelling and rockets over borders has been going on for half a century now and is getting nobody anywhere. It’s time to look at the big picture.

  102. you know a lot of you people are real assholes with no concept of reality

The Americans and the Jews are the bad guys and Hezbooha, Hamas, and the rest of the Iranian backed terror crowd are the good guys.

you will all make good little slaves in the world wide caliphate when we the Great Satans are vanquished

  103. Noel the big picture is all the land from Judea to the sea truly belongs to Israel and has for several millennia.

  104. ‘you will all make good little slaves in the world wide caliphate when we the Great Satans are vanquished’

Troll, have you been reading your comics again? :-)

    Noel, good post.

  105. no thats from the headlines of the Iranian papers

  106. >>the big picture is all the land from Judea to the sea truly belongs to Israel and has for several millennia.<<

Troll, are you sure your role model wasn’t actually the Joker?

  107. The Americans and the Jews are the bad guys and Hezbooha, Hamas, and the rest of the Iranian backed terror crowd are the good guys.

Troll nailed it, most of you people are living in dream world, always regarding the bad guys as victims. Ideology trumps reality for liberals. Your heroes are always the underdogs, never accountable for the ongoing deaths, unrest, and instability in various regions. The major world powers hold big deal summits to resolve your pet terrorist’s issues and always walk away with nothing. Do you know why? Have you plumbed the depths of reason of why there is no peace, after all these years, with your darlings?

I’ll tell you nitwits why, pay close attention. Because your little freedom fighter, terrorist contingents have no interest in peace. They’ll lose power if they resolve anything, peace is the last thing on their agenda. Most of the leadership would be thrown out of power if they were accountable to the people, it is in their best interest to maintain the status quo,..hell, furthering more unrest is in their best interests if they want to maintain control.

But go ahead, keep supporting their agendas…just expect to be having the same conversations ten years from now, because your side has no interest in peace.

  108. Noel, you probably need to take the head off sometime soon, you’re sounding rather robustly irrational in the threads. Batman for God’s sakes…………

  109. Hi Daph

In fairness, Noel responded appropriately to a whimsical post that I fully participated in with even more whimsy than Troll began the thing with.

My criticism of Noel will be gentle. His error is that he thinks that the rest of the world is as decent as he is. In post WW2 Europe, except for little sideshows in the far west and the far eastern parts of the Bruxelles empire that are now getting with the program, the trend has been for vast reconciliations.

For the most part no nations/peoples there wish one another evil, emnities of hundreds of years are almost entirely forgotten by the youth, regarded as the imbecilities of another age.

The Middle East is not like that. It may never be like that.

Whereas Germany has no problem with France being a French state, and France has no problem being a German nation, many many Arabs and Muslims have a very big problem with Israel existing permanently as a Jewish state. Syria and Lebanon ( and their masters in Iran ) will sign a treaty with Israel fer sure, but will regard it as a truce, a fifty or hundred year way station to the extermination of the "alien" people whose ancestors’ artifacts are underfoot everywhere there.

When I was in Israel a couple of weeks ago, I spoke with a number of Israelis about the prospect of peace. For the most part, they said that they wanted it very badly, but a number have entirely lost hope. They had hope when Sadat came to town, before Infifada version one, and Intifada version two, and before the return of Gaza (without concessions) was repaid with missiles and staged incidents that some here have responded to with the utmost in gullibility if that is what it is.

If in America there is insufficient reporting of the Arabs legitimate beefs with Israel, which are many, in Europe there is nearly a complete lack of reporting of the Israeli perspective on any issue.

Why is this? I personally think that there are two main reasons- Europeans tend to be scared to death of the threat of Islam and immigration by aliens ( get one glass of vin rouge into any Frenchman or woman and you will know exactly what I am talking about.). This is the Stockholm Syndrome, where if they cut a deal with the hostile invader, maybe he will not be so hostile in five years.

But there is also the ancient poisoned well of European antisemitism, as reinforced by the hostile newcomers. There is a kind of alliance between Le Pen and the Muslims and the academics and some religious from Belfast to Bruxelles to Tubingen to Russia that none would publicly recognize but that is a fact.

I hope want the peace that Noel speaks of, a peace of equals. But where there can be huge rallies in Tel Aviv for this peace, there are no such rallies I believe in Damascus.

I want to be proven wrong, but I doubt that I will.

  110. "It is Israel who are the terrorists in the conflict. So any act of Israel’s against the Palenstinians, should be retailiated upon."

Nice to see your true colours showing out there Pinky. Like the BNP leaflets thread where you told us all that 12 and 13 year old girls being raped by Muslims couldnt have been innocent in the first place. Shame, I actually thought you were a bit more than just another piece of Leftist scum who will apologise for Islam at all costs, and now you join them in calling the Jews terrorists.

    Pity.

  111. ‘Nice to see your true colours showing out there Pinky.

    Pity.’

DSD, the ‘true colours’ were never in question- I have made my opinion known very early on re: the Israeli Problem.
    Nothing new there.

What I don’t do is discuss it once a week on ATW, where the usual suspects fall into the usual tirades, and the problem stays the same.

And then the right whingers start calling others names, sure then what’s the use.

As for the BNP pamphlet, it was an atrocious of propoganda. Laughable stuff, if it wasn’t so tragic that English girls/women have become what they have become, and they try to blame Muslims for it.

  112. the Jews terrorists.

Please show where I mnentioned ‘Jews.’

  113. Pinky – I didn’t mention Jews either yet it was suggested that I think Jews are "evil".

No retraction from Phantom regarding that disgusting slur. Sad sad stuff.

  114. DC

The Israelis are Jews, buddy. Travel there and you’ll see that.

Not all Jews are Zionists but huge majorities of Jews ( religious or not, left, right and center ) are. So quit the bullshit.

Don’t pretend that you’re a fragile flower, fishing for an insult. You can throw elbows with the best of us. Dust yourself off, and resume play. There’s no point in pouting.

And the larger point remains- that much of the Israel-hatred here has some roots in the long history of west European antisemitism. Even those who are not personally Jew haters are influenced by it and its ebbs and flows through leftist politics and the universities there. . I don’t know how a thinking person can possibly deny that it’s a factor.

  115. ‘Don’t pretend that you’re a fragile flower, fishing for an insult. You can throw elbows with the best of us. Dust yourself off, and resume play. There’s no point in pouting.’

Aye DC/ Peter, you should take the above advice alright, from the bad tempered Shirley Temple of ATW. ( I can’t take credit for that one -another blogger suggested it).

    LOL

  116. Pinky you and DC along with a few others are the perfect example of why millions will die.

You refuse to see the gun pointed at not just your head but the head of any non-orthodox muslim

  117. Troll

That’s a lost cause. The short interval of clarity has ended and she has reverted to type, to cliche.

  118. ‘Pinky you and DC along with a few others are the perfect example of why millions will die. ‘

Troll, millions have died doing it your way.

There will be a negotiated settlement in the Israel/Palestinian issue- eventually. There will be negotiated settlements in most of the conflicts we have today. It is the way conflict ends.

I would just like to get to that part more quickly than you. That might save the millions of deaths.

  119. ‘The Israelis are Jews, buddy.’

Glad you admit the inherent sectarianism of the zionist enterprise Phantom.

  120. Yes it is a sectarian enterprise.

Just as Ireland is an Irish sectarian enterprise, and Germany is a sectarian enterprise for Germans, and Britain is a sectarian enterprise for the British, etc. That’s what nations are, or should be.

Its a good thing. If there’s a place for the Chinese, the Japanese, the Pole and the Turk, then there’s a place for the Jewish people too.

  121. ‘Just as Ireland is an Irish sectarian enterprise…’

Ireland was not artificially created at the expense of an indigenous people who didn’t fit the idea of what certain colonial interlopers had should encompass the land they stole.

  122. To say nothing of the fact that Judaism is not a race…it is a religion.

  123. ehh…

The Jews are the indigenous people. You can’t sink a spade in that land without hitting a Jewish artifact.

We’re not going to agree on this one.

The Jews are a people ( will avoid the loaded term race ) as well as a religion. Very many people in Tel Aviv for example are militantly secular people who hate the orthodox and their attempts to govern what can and cannot be done on the shabbat (Saturday) for example. Yet they’re still very proud Jewish people.

  124. ‘You can’t sink a spade in that land without hitting a Jewish artifact.’

Actually you can. Also you seem blissfully ignorant of the fact that some palestinians are descended from Jews who converted to other religions. Stonehenge isn’t a christian structure, should the descendants of the pagans or druids who built it get to rule England? Nevermind your also ignorant of the fact some of todays jews are descended from converts from other religions.

  125. Why would you think I’m unaware of that fact? Why be so hostile?

Of course people convert in and out of religions all the time.

Don’t remember the Jews forcing their religion on others by the sword, and bragging about it, and putting the blood soaked throat cutting sword on their flags, though.

  126. ‘Why be so hostile?’

Merely pointing out your lack of knowledge is not hostility.

‘Don’t remember the Jews forcing their religion on others by the sword, and bragging about it, and putting it on their flags, though.’

So now that your previous argument has been shown to be bullshit you wish to change the subject to methods of proselytisation. What bearing has that on the actions of the zionist movement?

  127. Eh, ok. Gee, never knew people ever switched religions. Thanks for the ejecation.

And threatening to cut someone’s throat if they don’t switch religions is not by the book prosletyzing in my books. Nor is forcing people not to convert out of the religion. These things are religious compulsion, which has always been part and parcel of the Islamic enterprise despite some Koranic verses to the contrary.

  128. Fond of avoiding questions Phantom, particularly those which bring to light your limited grasp of the subjects you love to comment on.

  129. RS

Heading outside on this dismal NY day so do not miss me too much

The fact that I disagree on some points does not mean I am avoiding anything or that I necessarily don’t know any thing. I think I know at least as much as the combined braintrust of the ATW Boys and Girls Israel Hating Society, of which I understand you are running for Chairman, an effort that I wish you every success in.

    Look

I support Israel and Zionism and think that the Jews have every bit as much of a right to a state as the Irish or British do.

I am not uncritical of Israel, and think that the Arab population does have legitimate beefs that should be addressed.

But I also know that it is awful hard to negotiate with a gun pointed at your head and suicide bombers targeting your six year olds.

The ATW Boys and Girls Israel Hating Society rarely has a word to say against the rockets and intifadas and all of that. Yet without the terror war, there would have been a Palestinian state a long time ago. Bill Clinton tried very hard to get it done, but at the end of the day, Arafat wouldn’t sign as he preferred not to get the Michael Collins treatment from the Arab hard liners.

Try a little less invective and stick to the facts- this is IMHO the most intractable world problem today, and its rather unlikely that we are going to convince one another.

Each of our time is probably best spent discussing the more solvable problems in this world. Cheers.

  130. ‘I think I know at least as much as the combined braintrust of the ATW Boys and Girls Israel Hating Society, of which I understand you are running for Chairman, an effort that I wish you every success in.’

    How modest…..What are we 14?

    ‘I support Israel and Zionism…’

Why? What have the Palestinians ever done to you? At least your brave enough to admit you support a sectarian/racist ideology.

‘Yet without the terror war, there would have been a Palestinian state a long time ago.’

Again, your grasp is quite loose to say the least.

‘Try a little less invective and stick to the facts’

Follow your own advice and perhaps if you read more, you’d know the facts. I can suggest several books if you’d like?

  131. What a lively thread this has been. You all needed my calming influence here, but alas I was away this weekend.

  132. RS

I’ve explained my position. And sloganeering with untrue verbal hand grenades like "racist" will never bring anyone to your side.

And it’s noted that your concerns about "racism" and "sectarianism" are very substantially limited to the real or imagined abuses committed by the Jewish state- would that you had equal energy for criticizing the vastly greater abuses by Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, and your all time fave, the Islamic Republic of Iran.

  133. Grizzly is right the Batman is the perfect symbol for the US

Like most of its history hes fictional

He breaks the law to selectively enforce the law on others

He thinks money puts him above the law

  134. "And sloganeering with untrue verbal hand grenades like "racist".."

Again your lack of knowledge is quite funny.

"And it’s noted that your concerns about "racism" and "sectarianism" are very substantially limited to the real or imagined abuses committed by the Jewish state- would that you had equal energy for criticizing the vastly greater abuses by Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, and your all time fave, the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Again your grasp is limited. Are those countries you listed portrayed as bastions of western democracy? Are they routinely given a blank cheque by our leaqders in the west? Which of those countries you listed were established by the west with massive colonization at the expense of an indigenous people?

    Must do better Phantom !

  135. RS

I give no one a blank cheque, and neither should you

Don’t know how you’ll blame the religious freedoms or lack of same in Saudi Arabia on other than the Saudis, but am sure you’ll find a way.

Blaming the Brits or whoever for a state of affairs 60 years or more after they left is a bit silly. It wasn’t the British or French who told the Saudis not to allow other religions to practice and it wasn’t them who told the Eygptian Muslims that they should not allow new Christian churches to be built, etc.

These poisoned plants come from poisoned roots that have been there for a long, long time.

    Cheers
