When Race is the first card you play…..

By Patrick Van Roy On August 30th, 2018

If you are a Black Democrat running against a White Republican it is guaranteed that at some point during the campaign you’re going to throw the race card.  It’s just a fact. It’s usually a measure saved for when you need a bump in your poll numbers or you need to hurt your White Republican Opponent because they are running away with the election.

Well not this time…… The Democrats in Florida have picked a Black Socialist to run for Governor Andrew Gillum.  The Republican is Ron DeSantis a Trump backed Candidate.  In his victory speech DeSantis had the NERVE to use the word Monkey in a sentence. He didn’t call his opponent a Monkey but he used the word….. and of course if your white and you use the word Monkey well you’re calling black people the N word…..

Here is the statement, please give it a listen and tell me if you hear racism in the following comments.

and here is the reaction.

So no racial remark was made, but Gillum plays the race card while then saying he’s above it…..

If you have to start your campaign by playing the Race Card even if you wind up winning you’re a Loser.

  1. It may very well have been simply a less than bright moment by Desantis. Or ita have been intentional. Surely when there are enough people who guarantee every black candidate will play the race card there is no need to overtly make a racist comment.

  2. “Monkey this up” is an interesting choice by the Trump guy. He could have said “mess this up” and his meaning would have been clearer. So I have to wonder would he have said what he said if his Dem opponent had white skin. And on the balance of probabilities (as they don’t say on Fox) I suspect not.

Gillum’s response is restrained and dignified. If the “race card” is being played here, it is not by him.

  3. It is a ‘dog whistle’ statement by DeSantis to the racists of Florida. This should be an interesting race.

  4. It is the sort of comment that will encourage brain dead idiots on the right to make “monkey” references in relation to this election, in fact they have probably already done so.

  5. It’s a strange phrase for sure. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone On either side of the
Atlantic use the phrase “Monkey it up “ in this way . It’s a word that is usually used to refer to people acting jokingly or like a clown as in “ they were monkeying around “ so I will give the GOP guy the benefit of the doubt and put it down to just a clumsy turn of phrase.

No, it’s a normal “turn” of the phrase, so to speak. You hear phrases like “jazz it up”, “ham it up”, “camp it up” etc, meaning to start acting in a certain way. Even if the phrase “monkey it up” had never been used before, it’s a legitimate creation from the phrase “to monkey around” or “to act the monkey”.

    God be with the days….

    Hey, hey, we’re the Monkees
And people say we monkey around
    But we’re too busy singing
    To put anybody down

  7. Still sounds like an insinuation to me . You would otherwise refer to your rivals policies and how they are flawed. I don’t like the more I reflect on it the phrase monkeying around to refer to opponent.

  8. What’s the fuss? GWB was regularly called a chimp and there was no outcry…..

    http://www.thatsweird.net/picture14.shtml

and yet as soon as the term ‘chimp’, ‘ape’, ‘gorilla’, ‘negro’ is mentioned or insinuated, everybody chimps out.

  9. Yes the use of perfectly legitimate words has been twisted into verbal weaponry by the left for decades. It’s effective because the current “educational atmosphere” (AKA: Socialist Brainwashing) promotes the injection of Liberal Social and Political ideology into education and ignores the solid comprehension of the basic foundations of critical, unbiased thinking like “reading, writing and arithmetic” that educated, not programmed generations of youngsters in the past.

  10. I think he was editing himself as he spoke.

If you listen to the clip he just got done complimenting the guy and saying it wasn’t a guaranteed win.

I think he wanted to say Fu*king it up, but you can’t and in thinking of a replacement expression thoughting of saying monkeying around but the two came out “Monkey it up”.

The left want to say “dog whistle” one guy even said it was a bullhorn of calling out the bigots…. but come on One is Black one is White you don’t need to point that out, anyone who is going to use that as their reason to vote can see for themselves.

The black candidate is a Socialist and Anti-Cop. The white candidate was referring to his Socialist policies NOT his color, but you can’t criticize a black candidate ALL criticism is racism.

  11. Remember the good old days when you lot and Dems used to call a certain President “Chimp Boy”. Who knew then that you were all just racists?
Or does it not apply cos he’s not Black,? That sounds a bit racist to me…

  13. The ( often disgusting) criticism of GW Bush was not race based.

I don’t think that this is either.

People can’t freak out over every real and imagined insult.

  14. In my opinion, I don’t think he meant this as a racial insult, but then I don’t think Andrew Gillum made much fuss about it anyway. I think it’s the press as usual, who are trying to turn this into a circus.

  15. Yup

I don’t know anything about either man, but let’s see how it goes.

Florida of course is an interesting, really large state. Western Florida where I lived for a time in the Navy ( Pensacola ) is in the central time zone, and is sometimes called LA ( lower Alabama ). South Florida with lots of northeast liberal types. Like the country as a whole, politically divided.

  16. //but let’s see how it goes.
Florida of course is an interesting, //

I haven’t been following the mid-term election news, but the Dems would be well advised to cool it down and nominate sober, moderate and clever candidates, and let the radicals wait till safer times.

The job at hand now is to put a lid on Trump before he does something really stupid. For the sake of their country, the Dems should seek the middle ground and bring as much sanity as possible to the governmnet of the US.

  17. South Florida with lots of northeast liberal types.

But also a lot of Cubans who unlike most Hispanics are quite Republican.

  18. Yep

Nominating Khmer Rouge waitresses is not what anyone needs

  19. The job at hand now is to put a lid on Trump before he does something really stupid.

Good luck with that Noel. As some of us (ahem) predicted, Trump is now threatening to withdraw the USA from the World Trade Organisation:

“President Donald Trump threatened to upend the rules of global trade on Thursday, saying he would pull out of the World Trade Organization unless it adopts rules more favorable to the United States.”

  20. The man-child POTUS has today blown up the NAFTA talks with Canada:

“In remarks Trump wanted to be “off the record,” Trump told Bloomberg News reporters on Thursday, according to a source, that he is not making any compromises at all in the talks with Canada — but that he cannot say this publicly because “it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal.”

“Here’s the problem. If I say no — the answer’s no. If I say no, then you’re going to put that, and it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal…I can’t kill these people,” he said of the Canadian government. In another remark he did not want published, Trump said, according to the source, that the possible deal with Canada would be “totally on our terms.” He suggested he was scaring the Canadians into submission by repeatedly threatening to impose tariffs.

“Off the record, Canada’s working their ass off. And every time we have a problem with a point, I just put up a picture of a Chevrolet Impala,” Trump said, according to the source. The Impala is produced at the General Motors plant in Oshawa, Ontario.

It was not clear why Bloomberg would disclose the off the record comment, or if indeed it was indeed Bloomberg; some have suggested that it was the White House itself that leaked the inflammatory commentary with hopes of scuttling the last minute Nafta negotiations. That said, it is not clear if Trump’s comment will indeed be a dealbreaker, although with just a few hours left until today’s deadline to get a deal done, every passing hour makes an agreement increasingly unlikely.”

  21. He’s an incompetent imbecile.

He is undoing the exceptionally strong business and diplomatic relations we have with Canada for no real reason at all.

He doesn’t know what he is doing

  22. No Phantom, I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. He was elected as a protectionist and tariffs are his weapon. If that means ditching Canada and leaving the WTO then that’s what he’ll do:

“US-Canada trade talks break up without deal but negotiations will continue next week, US official confirms”

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-45375178

  23. Messing up the US-Canadian trade and diplomatic relationship is against the interests of the United States. I can’t remember a time when the US has completely turned on an ally like this.

And if he tries to get some new phony 2/3 NAFTA by another name that doesn’t have Canada in it, you wonder if he could get it approved by the Senate.

Trump may disrespect Canada, but the American people and American business people do not.

  24. The senate will do his bidding, as always.

  25. https://www.wsj.com/articles/no-nafta-redo-without-canada-1535670392?emailToken=72a46621f7deab0f466e37bb8333194e9lcIdggTyMLof2QiYmqaxnd1Y4fq4x+/KhKQdw/6YRLJVSSsqkE6Xz2FDx68Ha10fWjO0BktiCk+7wzEojPCPw%3D%3D&reflink=article_copyURL_share

Canada is the number one export market for 33 out of the 50 states. A lot of American manufacturers, growers, and labor unions Support the current relationship with Canada. Kicking Canada out of NAFTA will cost American jobs
