Now the fun begins

By Patrick Van Roy On November 7th, 2018

President Trump’s agenda is Dead. No wall, no Immigration reform, the Tax cuts will not be made permanent, etc etc etc We are now in a state of gridlock for the next two years.

The Democrats ran a great midterm, they had tradition on their side with the fact that except for three times in history the party that won the White House losses seats in the next election, but that’s not why they won. They won because for the most part they ran good candidates. They ran Veterans and some other good solid candidates.

The Republicans blew it. The House Republicans for 2 years have ran away from Trump. They got nothing accomplished in 2 years except one Bill, Tax Cuts. They made their choice to run away from the President and gave no reason for Republican voters to support them, while Democrats motivated their supporters to vote.

Turn out broke records all over the country. My youngest Daughter voted for the first time, a Democrat…. she worked the polls, rang door bells, handed out pamphlets. Her candidate Jess King lost, but I’m proud that she actually participated and more than by just voting. Both my daughters votes cancelled out my wife and my votes.

The newly elected members of Congress take office January 15th 2019. I congratulate them and wish them well in their agenda. May they pursue every campaign promise they made. Impeachment, Subpoenas, and Endless Investigations.

Senate 52 Republicans – 45 Democrats

House 220 Democrats – 197 Republicans

  1. The House Republicans for 2 years have ran away from Trump.

I don’t think that’s true. A more legitimate criticism would be that the House Republicans never stood up to him, never acted as any proper check. Their role is not to be a rubber stamp, anyway.

I think that the House losses were largely caused by Trump’s boorish, disgusting, insulting, unpresidential demeanor. Many centrists or conservatives, especially women, despise him and his conduct.

One of the more universally respected Americans is Captain Sullenberger. He was a Republican for most of his life. But even he became publicly political for the first time, and asked people to vote against the Republicans. If you lose guys like that, you have a really big problem.

It is a sad indictment of the Democrats that they didn’t do much better than they did, against such an opponent.

  2. While losing the house is a setback, the average President loses 37 seats in his first midterm

Obama lost 63, Clinton lost 53, Trump lost 26

  3. Phantom your own party is not supposed to be a check on you. They are supposed to carry your water.

When Obama won the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate and they locked the Republicans out of the conference rooms and seized control of one sixth of our economy destroying healthcare for the middle class.

  4. No.

  5. Yes

  6. You have said more than once that the Democrats are a party of communism.

In Pennsylvania, voters by nearly 13 points voted in Bob Casey for US Senate.

Do Pennsylvania voters believe in communism ? Or were they tricked by the failing MSM?

I believe that the national popular vote for House went Democrat. Are most Americans communist?

  7. PVR

A very fair and reasonable assessment of the mid-terms. Thank you for that.

The Republicans did very well in the Senate. The Democrats very well in the House. I totally agree that some very good new people have won seats.

I also like the pride you take in your daughters actively taking part in the election process. That augurs well for the future.

One would like to think that both parties will work together to achieve important things for the country. Right now the mood seems good. But sharp partisanship is still there. I hope Trump means what he says about working with Pelosi. Time will tell.

  8. One would like to think that both parties will work together to achieve important things for the country.

    that is always the dream

  9. My youngest Daughter voted for the first time, a Democrat….

Extending the franchise to women has been a disaster for Western Civilisation. They’re all feelings and no logic. Dreaming of babies and shoes is no preparation for a say on government.

    No, I’m right. Don’t argue.

  10. Pat,

Please pass on my congratulations to your two girls. Not for voting Dem of course, but for being strong enough young women to know their own minds and draw their own conclusions.

    Well done those girls.

  11. Well done indeed.

But that they voted Democrat is not a surprise.

Again, the Republican Party under this guy is kryptonite ten times over to most of the young and to most women.

A different, more dignified tone would make him a more effective negotiator and a better communicator to those who don’t like him now, but he just can’t do it.

  12. Good assessment pat like it and a nice share too. Pity petem stuck his welly in well we know he has issue with women any way . Cooperation between parties let’s hope so.

  14. They are proud independent woman, and I am very proud of them both. Thanks I will pass it on.

  15. As Colm says every so often, Pete is being the prankster.

    I think.

  16. Nope, I’m absolutely serious. The changing world is my witness.

  17. Shame on you Pete…..

Its official in black & white.

Patrick has absolutely zero sense of humour.

    😏

  19. All the woman in my life are exceptional.

If you don’t know women that can do anything a man can do….. well than you don’t know enough women.

  20. At his press conference this afternoon Trump proved a leopard does not change his spots. I wish he could act presidential but that seems not possible for him. Elections are the time for combat, afterwards is the time for governing by working with the other side. He ruined the good mood by inability to switch mode.

  21. Patrick has absolutely zero sense of humour.

Harri I have a sense of humor I just don’t often see the joke…….

  22. Patrick.

Women can’t run faster than Usain Bolt.

    How’s that?.

  23. It is quite amazing that this guy has the most challenging executive position imaginable.

Since he’s not an executive of any kind.

He has a genius for promotion branding and media.

Which is a lot. But that stuff won’t help you govern, won’t help you to lead.

  24. Harri I have a sense of humor I just don’t often see the joke…….

No shit Sherlock, it hasn’t gone entirely unnoticed.

    😏

  25. Good post, not that I agree with it all, but it seems to come from your own thoughts.

  26. One would like to think that both parties will work together to achieve important things for the country

Not much chance of that. The GOP did all in their power to thwart Obama, including blocking his SCOTUS nomination when he still had a year to run. They have kow-towed to a hyper-partisan white nationalist as POTUS. But suddenly when they have lost the House they discover the virtues of co-operation. LOL.

No, what goes around comes around. Starting with that promise cynically broken by Trump, the one to disclose his tax returns, as his predeccesors have done for decades. What could he possibly have to hide, squeaky clean as he is? I say bring it on, let’s shine the light.

  27. Interesting post.

  28. No, what goes around comes around. Starting with that promise cynically broken by Trump

    +++STOP PRESS+++

A politician has broken a promise!!!

    Oh the horror!.

    😱

  29. Peter

The leader without any ethics has just fired his AG for acting in an ethical fashion.

Yet he is the one who will drain the swamp.

Just don’t ask him to show you his financials. Nothing to see there.

  30. Well you know what they say, turnip couldn’t spell integrity if you spotted him the first 9 letters

  31. The stock market’s initial reaction to the election is highly positive.

Dow Jones average up 542 points.

Investors and America very often like divided government.

  32. Just don’t ask him to show you his financials. Nothing to see there.

    Who cares?.

What possible difference could it make to average Joe?.

Would it in anyway conceivable, make their life’s any better?.

    I don’t think so.

  33. If you don’t know women that can do anything a man can do…..

I told you. Deep down inside, Troll is a raving SJW.

  34. Lol!

    😁

    God bless him.

    The ickle snowflake.

  35. But then again..

    Isn’t Patrick a “trained killer”?.

    😏

  36. Phantom

Trump has had it all his own way for two years, but now he will have to get used to co-habiting in Congress. It’s good to see the constitution acting as intended.

I expect we will see the toys being flung from the pram quite a lot.

  37. How has he had his own way?

  38. No opposition from the House, no investigations into his corruption conflicts of interest, no demand to disclose his tax returns. The House has been his bitch, just like the Senate. No longer.

  39. he’s been under investigation since before he was elected and the congress accomplished one thing for him tax cuts…. nothing else.

and the country is still better off than if the witch had won.

  40. he’s been under investigation since before he was elected

That’s why Sessions has been fired today.

  41. He promised that Mexico would pay for the wall

And Patty tells me that Trump is the promise keeper in chief

Why is he asking me to pay for something that Mexico has already agreed to pay for?

  42. Trump gloating about HIS OWN PARTY’S losses by candidates who didn’t embrace him is extraordinary. His emasculation of the GOP is complete.

  43. Yes Daphne, that press conference was amazing. But his takeover of the GOP is now complete.
