  1. Delicious! Moments before take-off he grounds her so she can be available for negotiations.

  2. President advertising to the world that a member of Congress had planned on travelling to a war zone?

    Yeah, smart move.

  3. His smirking comments will really help to get a deal done.

  4. Childish act applauded by the childish. I thought she was wrong to suggest he postpone the State of the Union as well.

  5. Playing nice with the Hill Dems will only be seen as weakness. It hasn’t bought Trump anything so far. So maybe it’s time to show the Speaker how they play hardball uptown.

  6. Charles

You are way too smart to be saying these things.

He has never tried to be nice.

  7. Yes her comment was foolish also.

But this guy never misses a chance to not look like a president.

It’s like you picked the most incompetent jerk in the neighborhood, and moved him into the White House. It’s a new embarrassment every day.

  8. The Speaker has no business leaving the country for 7 days during the shutdown. I can’t believe she has such a tin ear on the subject. I also agree with my friend Mahons that trying to postpone the SOTU speech was wrong headed of Madame Speaker.

Out her in Peoria, or El Paso, the shutdown is really not playing well.

  9. The Demoncrats’ greatest fear, of course, is that as time goes by, people will see clearly that the country and the economy can function perfectly well with a public-sector “shutdown” and that the private sector can fulfill every economic demand without all these non-jobs in place. Good work, Trump, Don’t back down, keep it up!

  10. I bet President Trump doesn’t use a Gillette!

  11. Charles –

Playing nice with the Hill Dems will only be seen as weakness. It hasn’t bought Trump anything so far.

What has it ever got Republicans? Remember their rules; Dems in power have a mandate to implement their programme, Republicans in power must compromise and reach across the aisle.

Never play by your opponent’s rules.

  12. Indeed Pete!

BTW, I think I’m being intellectually honest when I say I would be just as hard on Trump if he tried to skip the country during this shutdown. Both sides are fiddling while Rome burns.

  13. That trip was ill advised, at this time.

    No argument there.

  14. Phantom, agreed. I bet you and I could sit down and end the shutdown! 🙂

  15. President advertising to the world that a member of Congress had planned on travelling to a war zone?

    Yeah, smart move.

Paul, your comment on the White House divulging operational security has merit. They should not have listed the Speaker’s travel schedule, IMO.

  16. I bet you and I could sit down and end the shutdown!

    No bout a doubt it.

  17. No fare you beat me to it Pete…..

    He clanks when he walks…..

The petulant child canceled for the first time in 126 years the state of the union address, with a lie about security not being good without ever speaking to the capital police, the DHS, or the SS who have all said they had it covered…..

While these poor bastard 800,000 are at home or working without pay the first week of the New Congress was spent in Puerto Rico drinking on the beach with LOBBYISTS…. lining their politicians pockets…. and now she wanted military aircraft to tour Europe and the ME for a PR trip……

Ahh poor Nancy with the not Laughing face……

    ROFLMAO

  18. Patrick, when I saw the post I just assumed that it was you who posted it!

  19. “The petulant child canceled for the first time in 126 years the state of the union address, with a lie about security not being good without ever speaking to the capital police, the DHS, or the SS who have all said they had it covered…..”

She shouldn’t have lied. However the decision to hold the State of the Union is within her gift. So she shouldn’t have lied, not least because she didn’t need to. She could have easily said that she didn’t feel it was appropriate to hold the State of the Union when the actual state of the Union was so dire. That the President can address Congress when the shutdown ends.

  20. Seamus, what our House doesn’t have is Blackrod. He may be needed!

  21. Sorry, what?

    She shouldn’t have lied.

Pelosi lied? About what? I missed that post.

  22. Pete,

Pelosi is trying to cancel the State of the Union Speech, a joint address to Congress from the President. She said the security of the government could not be assured b/c the Secret Service isn’t being paid.

  23. “Seamus, what our House doesn’t have is Blackrod. He may be needed!”

Actually Congress does have one – the Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate. Blackrod, or the Lady (Gentleman) Usher of the Black Rod, outside of the State Opening of Parliament, is the person responsible for keeping order in the House of Lords. So the person responsible for keeping order in the upper chamber ie the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate.

Though in terms of the State of the Union the closest to Blackrod is the Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives. He is the one who announces the arrival of the President. If you listen at the State of the Union, should it take place, the Sergeant at Arms will announce, largely as the first bit of fanfare for the State of the Union “Madam Speaker, the President of the United States”.

  24. That sounds like a lie to me.

Those guys are super motivated, and nothing will stop them from doing their job, even for a government that isn’t currently holding up its end of the wage bargain.

  25. What would be interesting is what should happen if Trump shows up anyway. Technically any breach of order (normally protesters) is dealt with by the House Sergeant at Arms. So technically, should Trump attempt to enter the House and give a speech, without the leave to do so by the Speaker, then he should be arrested by the Sergeant at Arms. Could be an interesting standoff between the Sergeant at Arms, the Capitol Police and the Secret Service.

  26. Seamus, you are of course quite correct. I always loved the symbolism of the doors to the Commons being closed in Blackrod’s face, and the pounding on the door to summon them to the Lord’s.

  27. “Seamus, you are of course quite correct. I always loved the symbolism of the doors to the Commons being closed in Blackrod’s face, and the pounding on the door to summon them to the Lord’s.”

I do have to say the Brits do enjoy their pomp.

  28. True Seamus. It may be pomp, but it is a powerful example that not even Her Majesty herself may enter the Commons without being given leave by the Speaker. Trump would be wise to take note.

  29. The Queen doesn’t enter the Commons ever. The last monarch to enter the Commons when it was sitting was Charles I. The State of the Union always takes place in the Lords Chamber. George VI was allowed to briefly tour the rebuilt Commons after the war but did so outside the sitting of the chamber.

  30. *State of the Union on the brain there… should read State Opening of Parliament.

  31. And we know what happened to Charles I!

  32. Charles – I don’t want you to miss the opportunity to be just as hard on Trump. He was in Iraq during this shutdown.

  33. Personally I see no real point to Pelosi’s personal trip even if there wasn’t a shutdown. But the President should show more respect for her office than he did. And she to his.

  34. Well played counselor!! But as C in C his place was with his troops. Just as in Pelosi’s case, a woman’s place is in the House! 🙂

  35. “And we know what happened to Charles I”

You do wonder what would happen to the toupée should it happen to Trump. Would it stick to his head or just flop off?

  36. Not a bad line Charles. But careful. There is also a White House.

  37. Pelosi has a lot to say about how my money is spent in Egypt ( the developing country that never develops ) and Afghanistan ( a hundred times worse )

Those legs of the trip would not be fun, they sound like fact finding to me.

  38. Seamus, If Trump’s head were lopped off, I’m sure it would be magnificent!

  39. What do they call it? I mean regicide (despite Trump’s delusions of grandeur) wouldn’t apply. Is there a special word for it like regicide for king? Because (if it was Charles I style and not JFK style) it wouldn’t be a murder or an assassination.

  40. Many here would simply call it karma…

  41. Given how orange he is it is closer to Korma.

  42. LOL!

  43. If Trump croaked, twatter stock would crash.

  44. Freudian slip? It’s true that men think of sex every tits seconds…

  45. It’s a new embarrassment every day

    And today’s embarrassment is?

Buzzfeed says Cohen has told investigators that Mr Trump “personally instructed him to lie” about the date negotiations ended “in order to obscure Trump’s involvement”.

The report said Mr Mueller had other evidence, including from interviews with other Trump organisation staff and internal company emails, to corroborate Cohen’s version of events.

The report also says Mr Trump allegedly encouraged Cohen to plan a trip to meet President Vladimir Putin during the election campaign

  46. eeewwww buzzfeed there’s another good source…… also What was one of his charges ?

Oh yeah Lying Under Oath……. very credible indeed….

  47. Lindsey “the wolf in sheep’s clothing” convert after McStain’s demise was not amused. Despite all his accolades for our president his true colours were hoisted up the mast when he commented about this.

  48. Eddie, it’s true that Lindsey Graham lowered the boom on both parties, but I must say that I’m pleasantly surprised with how the “new” Lindsey has been on the President’s side.

  49. Eddie likes his Congress to be blind cult followers.

Any criticism, however mild, is disloyalty to Jim Jones Trump.

  50. First lady Melania Trump flew to Florida on an Air Force jet hours after President Donald Trump postponed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s planned trip with other members of Congress to visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan, NBC has confirmed.

    Cultist comments invited.

    Justify that.

  51. Pat, how is it that you can cite the Washington Examiner as a source for a story and then attempt to ridicule Buzzfeed?

Oh yeah Lying Under Oath……. very credible indeed….

If lying is a barometer for measuring credibility where does the current POTUS measure?

  52. No, that would not be justified. Even though Melania doesn’t need to be in Washington like Pelosi does for negotiations, still looks bad.

  53. The first lady ( and it will be the first man at some point ) shouldn’t get any solo flights ever. They’re not the office holder. There is this stupid cult of ” first lady ” in this country, which for the most part doesn’t exist in other countries.

But here, this is what Trump always does – it’s ” one rule for me, another rule for the little people “

A good friend of mine took today off to cook for Coast Guard members in Staten Island who aren’t being paid, hours after Marie Antionette jets down to Florida to get a massage.

  54. Phantom, it’s a travesty that the Coassties aren’t being paid. Good for your friend.

  55. A good friend of mine took today off to cook for Coast Guard members in Staten Island who aren’t being paid

Get that person a few beers Phantom and congratulate them on my behalf.

  56. He is part of BBQ Relief, a national organization that does stuff like this.

He most recently served the most delicious BBQ you ever saw to people in damage zones in Wilmington NC and the Florida Panhandle.

He had to be in Staten Island at 530 am!

  57. I have a lot of sympathy for the furloughed Federal workers, because I have been in that situation myself. It’s tough to miss a paycheck, and the people you owe money to don’t care about your situation.

The government sent each worker a letter to show their creditors saying that they will be paid. Try taking that to the Walmart checkout. I’m sure that they will let you leave with free food-NOT!

  58. I think it is times of hardship and crisis that you see the absolute worst and and absolute best of humanity. The small pettiness of Trump and Pelosi compared to people like your friend, or the Canadian air traffic control staff who bought pizzas from their American counterparts.

  59. There are a lot of efforts to help those guys out at the local level to buy gas, food etc.

Should never be necessary, but there you are.

  60. //You do wonder what would happen to the toupée should it happen to Trump. Would it stick to his head or just flop off?//

Probably the fate of the unfortunate Mary Queen of Scots. After her head had been cut off by the axe, the executioner held it up by the hair

At that moment, the auburn tresses in his hand turned out to be a wig and the head fell to the ground, revealing that Mary had very short, grey hair.

  61. Trivia fact

Staten Island is home to the largest Coast Guard unit in the country

They are at Fort Wadsworth, the very old facility right by the Verrazzano Bridge at the mouth of the harbor.

A couple of times a year, I will ride my bike around that area, which is connected to Gateway National Park.

  62. “At that moment, the auburn tresses in his hand turned out to be a wig and the head fell to the ground, revealing that Mary had very short, grey hair.”

Well she was in her mid forties.
