Kentucky Students Vindicated 100%

By Phantom On January 22nd, 2019

I’ve done a lot of additional fact checking since this story was first reported in national and international media.

We don’t know everything still, but we do know this:
a) a group of known black racists were the initial troublemakers

b) Nathan Phillips is a liar. He should be arrested. He has given completely contradictory accounts of what happened that day. He claims that the students attacked the black racists and there is no evidence at all of that. All the video evidence is to the contrary – the students were high spirited, silly and mellow. They were not disposed to attack anyone at all.

c) The Catholic diocese in Kentucky rushed to judgement when it apologized and when it spoke of expelling the students. It is the administration of that school that should be fired.

By all the evidence that we now see, the students have been falsely accused. Lesson learned.

Below, please see an excerpt from Kyle Smith of the National Review, by way of the New York Post. He says it better than I can.

If you are in a public place and someone starts heckling you, are you entitled to heckle back? What if your heckler starts banging a drum in your face? Are you allowed to answer him with a smirk?

I think you are, even if you are wearing a MAGA hat. Even if you’re an entitled brat.

The kids from Covington Catholic HS in Covington, Ky., were ambassadors for causes much bigger than themselves: Catholicism and the March for Life. As such, they should have comported themselves better than to jeer and do a tomahawk chop in front of Nathan Phillips, an indigenous man who banged a drum at them in front of the Lincoln Memorial on Friday.
Ideally, the kids would have ignored him and walked away. Until about 10 minutes ago, though, it was broadly agreed in our culture that kids are allowed to do some dumb things because they are kids.

Should these kids’ lives be ruined because some of them responded to obnoxious provocation by being a bit rude themselves? I would say their reaction was, if anything, more restrained than you would expect from teenagers.

Phillips, on the other hand, is an adult, and he repeatedly lied about what happened to The Washington Post and other prestige outlets, which reported everything he said uncritically.

Phillips, who claims to be a former Marine and a Vietnam veteran, told The Detroit Free Press that the Covington kids “were in the process of attacking these four black individuals. I was there and I was witnessing all of this. … As this kept on going on and escalating, it just got to a point where you do something or you walk away, you know?

There is a nearly two-hour video of the incident in which about five black individuals from another outfit called the Black Hebrew Israelites shout abuse at Catholics and Trump supporters near the Lincoln Memorial. “You believe in a f - - - ing child molester,” they shout. “Christ is coming back to kick your cracker asses.”

A lot of people were making videos of the incident. At least one of these videos, it appears, was taken by an ally of Phillips. Yet I haven’t come across a video that shows the Covington kids chanting “build that wall,” as a Washington Post reporter claimed, much less “attacking” black people, as Phillips says.

If you insult someone, and that person insults you back, you don’t get to cry, “Oh my gosh, for no reason whatsoever I’ve just been insulted!”

Nathan Phillips went out seeking to create an incident, and he fooled The New York Times and The Washington Post into accepting his false version of it.

Case of Covington Kids a Perfect Example of Media Bias

  1. Splendid post Phantom. I’m proud of you!

  2. It’s symptomatic of how fragmented and sensitive US society is that this farse of a “story” got such traction. A young guy stands facing an old Indian – absolutely nothing else happened, no violence, nothing broken – and its the talk of the town for days on end.

100 things more disturbing than that happen every night in Dublin city centre within a few hours of midnight.

  3. The kids were bad mannered, yobbish, disrespectful ‘self entitled brats’

    That’s all they ever were

  4. IMO the most useful lesson to be learned here is how influential a weapon social media is in shaping perspective and opinion.

  5. Noel, I agree with your assessment. Hundreds of bad things happened over the weekend that weren’t reported. And yet we obsess ad nauseum over this tempest in a teacup. I supposed that Trump Hats and Indians are too much to pass up!

  6. Nathan Phillips is a liar

How old does he say he is…60?

That seems a tad young to be a Vietnam vet?

  7. Let alone “Two tours”

    Methinks he’s telling porkies.

  8. This was a perfect storm, involving a supposedly sympathetic figure (the ” peacemaker ” Phillips ) being stared down by a ” racist ” youth

It deserved to be a story.

It has turned out to be far more useful than originally thought.

The brilliant David Brooks had very recently written of the danger of viral social media condemnations. And now, this.

    The story was a lie.

And it is very wrong to be criticizing the kids at this point, when any proper analysis shows that it was they who were provoked, that it was they who kept their cool when the adults all around them were either provacative, or useless.

I tip my hat to those kids.( But, lads, lose the tomahawk chop if you would )

  9. Phillips claims to be 64.

    But he looks much older.

I won’t trust anything that he says at this point.

  10. And it is very wrong to be criticizing the kids at this point,

But, but, but they are hideously white, and some of them were wearing MAGA baseball caps.

  11. Phantom, that kind of thing can be a story only in a politically neuotic society.

One individual doesn’t represent any side in a political debate. Even if someone with a MAGA hat, or an Obama badge, burns down an orphanage, it is still no reflection on the movement being advertised, no matter how many here believe it does.

Just imagine, say, an Irish equivalent: a snot-faced teenager with a FG hat stands staring insolenty at a traveller….. and no more!

It wouldn’t even be reported, wouldn’t even be noticed by anyone. But in the US this is all part of some pathetic and jaded “culture war”, as Colm pointed out yesterday.

A lot of people need to grow up.

  12. Noel

I’m not sure that you’re correct.

This story was widely commented upon by British and Irish media, including by your best paper, the Irish Times.

I think that your islands are in a very similar space to the US on things like this.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/us/new-video-sheds-light-on-students-confrontation-with-native-american-1.3765965

  13. I think it’s laudable that the truth won the day. As Churchill said, “The Americans get things right, after trying every other possibility.”

  14. Methinks Nathan Philips is definitely telling porkies..

    *Liar

Nathan Phillips is 64 years old which means he was born in 1955.

He claims to be a Marine who did two tours in Vietnam.

Marine tours of Vietnam were 13 months long.

The last Marines left Vietnam in 1971. That was 48 years ago.

That would make him 16 years old when the Marines were pulled out meaning he signed up at age 14.

The following is an article from 2000 stating his age at the time was 45 years old.

    https://www.omaha.com/news/nation/who-is-nathan-phillips-years-ago-omaha-tribe-member-said/article_6cc049c4-d6d8-5e3c-8ee6-939a203682af.html

If he somehow stayed until 1973 that still makes 16 when he signed up.

If he was not a marine but Army and his tours were only 6 months each, that would still mean he had to have joined in 1971 or early 1972 at the age of 16 or 17.

He may have been in the military but he’s no Vietnam vet.

Also, he claimed to be a Ranger Recon. There’s no such thing. Ranger recon wasn’t founded until 1984.

  15. Good for you….. if you research more things in this depth your views might be enlightened if not changed and be in a better position to discuss things in the light of reality…..

These kids were the victims and they were made the heals.

Now 99.9% of the people that saw this story over the weekend took it as it was spoon fed them just as you did. You have people that argue with you everyday about things like this most people are even afraid to broach the subjects we fight about.

You had enough people raise questions to your narrative that you dug further and admitted your view the one that was sold to you by the news outlets you trust wasn’t the truth… imagine that.

Good for you Tom, today I am proud to know you.

Trust No One, Read as much as you can from BOTH sides and think for yourself is what we should all do.

  16. People today are capable of doing stupid things, which now go right onto Social media. And everyone then has a fit. Phantom has correctly updated it (not sure the boys are 100% vindicated, but they were clearly the least culpable actors).

  17. It is noted that Patty’s fake news post about an ( unknown ) Puerto Rico cop reporting on a ( fake ) strike by Puerto Rico truckers in the aftermath of the deadly hurricane was never retracted, even though Patty should have known it to be false a very long time ago.

And a couple of people here were critical of me for commenting on her posting of 100% Fake News, still never retracted.

Please no lectures on Fake News from those who like Fake News when it suits them.

Who of the Trumpers here for example challenged Trump’s false assertion that there were millions of illegal votes cast?

    Etc etc

    http://www.atangledweb.org/?p=70918

  18. In one camp, there are groundbreaking studies by professors at Old Dominion University in Virginia who attempted to compile scientifically derived illegal voting numbers using the Harvard data, called the Cooperative Congressional Election Study.

On the other side are the professors who conducted the study and contended that “zero” noncitizens of about 18 million adults in the U.S. voted. The liberal mainstream media adopted this position and proclaimed the Old Dominion work was “debunked.”

The ODU professors, who stand by their work in the face of attacks from the left, concluded that in 2008 as few as 38,000 and as many as 2.8 million noncitizens voted.

Mr. Agresti’s analysis of the same polling data settled on much higher numbers. He estimated that as many as 7.9 million noncitizens were illegally registered that year and 594,000 to 5.7 million voted.

These numbers are more in line with the unverified estimates given by President Trump, who said the number of ballots cast by noncitizens was the reason he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton.

Last month, the president signed an executive order setting up a commission to try to find on-the-ground truth in illegal voting. Headed by Vice President Mike Pence, the panel also will look at outdated voter lists across the nation with names of dead people and multiple registrants.

For 2012, Just Facts said, 3.2 million to 5.6 million noncitizens were registered to vote and 1.2 million to 3.6 million of them voted.

  19. source please.

  20. Those numbers appear to be preposterous.

Esp as the register of voters is AFAIK a matter of public record

It should be easy enough to -prove- a widespread pattern if it exists.

  21. The last Marines left Vietnam in 1971. That was 48 years ago

This states that in Spring 1975 the Marines were still deployed in Vietnam:

    The Bitter End 1973-1975

Following the failure of the Communists’ Easter Offensive and an intensive bombing campaign of North Vietnam, a peace treaty was finally signed in Paris on 27 January 1973. The U.S. agreed to withdraw all its forces from South Vietnam. The North, in turn, returned all the U.S. Prisoners of War, including 26 Marines. Unfortunately, peace was short lived in Vietnam, and in 1974 fighting resumed in both Cambodia and South Vietnam. By the spring of 1975, the situation became desperate for the U.S. backed governments in both Phnom Penh and Saigon. On 12 April, the 31st MAU, commanded by Colonel John F. Roche, executed a non-combatant evacuation, Operation Eagle Pull, the abandonment of the U.S. embassy in Phnom Penh prior to the city’s capitulation to Communist Khmer Rouge forces. Three weeks later, Marines were called upon to evacuate another embassy, this time in Saigon. Marines of the 9th MAB successfully executed Operation Frequent Wind, which safely removed hundreds of Americans and Vietnamese civilians prior to the fall of South Vietnam.

No sooner had the Marines evacuated the embassies than they were ordered by President Gerald R. Ford to rescue the crew of the USS Mayaguez, which had been taken by the Khmer Rouge. On 15 May, a Marine Task Force under the command of Colonel John M. Johnson recovered the Mayaguez and her crew, but not without high losses.

  22. Actually the ODU professors concluded that 6.4% of non-citizens voted in 2008. If that same number was extrapolated it would be 1.3 million. They also estimated that of the 1.3 million that a little over 1 million voted for Clinton, and 236,000 voted for Trump. So the actual added margin was about 835,000 votes for Clinton.

    https://www.wired.com/2017/01/author-trumps-favorite-voter-fraud-study-says-everyones-wrong/

But Richman is unequivocal that even if his findings are correct, Clinton would have still handily won the popular vote in November, despite the new president’s claims.

“I can’t quite account for the math being so badly wrong in their analyses,” he says of the Trump administration’s interpretation of his report.

Here’s what the math should look like (that is, if Richman’s initial study was accurate—which many researchers doubt). If 6.4 percent of the estimated 20.3 million noncitizens in the US voted, and if just 81.8 percent of them voted for Clinton (the percentage who voted for Obama in his 2008 study), that’s an added margin of a little more than 835,000 votes. In other words: Even with all of those supposedly fraudulent ballots, Clinton still would have won the popular vote by more than 2 million votes.

  23. Supposed illegal voters in one party states – NY, TX, CA would have no impact on recent national elections.

Only if there were significant numbers of illegal voters in contested states ( such as Florida ) would it possibly impact national elections

  24. “On the other side are the professors who conducted the study and contended that “zero” noncitizens of about 18 million adults in the U.S. voted. The liberal mainstream media adopted this position and proclaimed the Old Dominion work was “debunked.””

Actually they concluded that 0% voted. Now that can be anything up to, with rounding, 0.49…. % of non-citizens voting – or around 99,000 people.

“The ODU professors, who stand by their work in the face of attacks from the left, concluded that in 2008 as few as 38,000 and as many as 2.8 million noncitizens voted.”

Shows you how biased the Washington Times is that disagreement over methodology from other experts in the field is now “attacks from the left”.

  25. “It’s symptomatic of how fragmented and sensitive US society is that this farse of a “story” got such traction.”

No, it isn’t. Don’t be naive. If the MSM hadn’t jumped on the story equipped with the narrative that “white males wearing Red Trump hats = racists” – no one would have known about this.

This is propaganda, plain and simple. Open your eyes and see exactly how the sausage is made.

  26. //I think that your islands are in a very similar space to the US on things like this.//

Phantom, there’s always an appetite for US stuff. It’s like the trend of young girls being driven to a “debs ball” in a stretch limousine you see all over Dublin, or Starbucks in Venice and Florence or kitsch Halloween in Tokyo. It doesn’t matter if it’s complete trash, the main thing is it’s American.

But the point is that such neurosis would be unthinkable in our political culture, for want of a better word.

  27. The ODU study was based on extrapolation from the CCES Panel survey at Harvard.

Firstly the number of non-citizen respondents in the CCES Panel was 121 in 2010, and 105 in 2012. Do you really think that you can make a major extrapolation based on the answers of 100 people?

Additionally of the 105 in 2012, 20 of them (so 19%), stated they were citizens in 2010 but were not citizens in 2012. Did 19% of non-citizens in 2012 lose their citizenship sometime between 2010 and 2012? I highly doubt it. Meaning that at least some, including a large proportion due to the low number of respondents, click “non-citizen” in error.

The ODU study is likely bogus.

  28. “If the MSM hadn’t jumped on the story equipped with the narrative that “white males wearing Red Trump hats = racists” – no one would have known about this.”

I think the story is actually white males wearing Trump hats making tomahawk signs at a Native American = racist.

And I think that is still the case.

  29. //This is propaganda, plain and simple. Open your eyes //

Patty, nobody has to open his eyes very wide to see that you peddle exactly this kind of story, from the other perspective of course, regularly here on ATW. You and Pete are in fact the ones that get into a tizzy the most about certain misbehaviour by individuals, which you then take as proof that all dems or liberals or lefties or whatever are bad boys.

Trump and his “policies” are deranged in themselves. They are not made worse or better no matter what some eegit with a MAGA cap may do. We already know that CNN etc are (almost) as propagandist as Fox News in pushing and manipulating stories. But you guys do exactly the same here.

  30. source… with all sorts of links in the article. If you read what I posted they looked at it from the info from both sides.

When your country holds over 20 million illegals Phantom all with fake papers some are going to vote. They are already scamming the system…. oh but they’re gonna draw the line at voting. But I guess that sounds logical to you

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jun/19/noncitizen-illegal-vote-number-higher-than-estimat/

  31. Here are some fun headlines of the #1 Democrat in the US…..

OCASIO-CORTEZ ON MILLENNIALS: ‘WE’RE LIKE THE WORLD IS GOING TO END IN 12 YEARS IF WE DON’T ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE’

    Existence of Billionaires ‘Immoral’…
    I Give ‘Zero’ F*cks…
POLL: 74% of Dems would vote for her for president!
Davos scared of 70% tax proposal targeting wealthy…

    lmao

  32. No evidence of any significant problem in this area.

This looks like something made up by Trump and GOP activists, as true as the ” Rafael Cruz murdered JFK ” assertion made up by Trump.

  33. The narrative that “white males wearing Red Trump hats = racists” – no one would have known about this.

Patty, that’s the second time that you’ve tried to bring race into the equation, (I saw a few kids with darker complexions in some of the videos). Did the (non good) MSM really run with this racial line or is it, as Noel states above, propaganda peddeling?

  34. One of the chaperones of the Covington Catholic students, Val Andreev, told the USA Today Network there was no confrontation and nothing to control.

“There was nothing the chaperones could have done differently,” Andreev said. “I’m very proud the way the boys handled the situation.”

Andreev added that the students were set up and the event was staged.

    ,,

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, who represents the area where Covington Catholic is located, said the students received a “brutal lesson in the unjust court of public opinion and social media mobs.”

“I urge everyone to watch the other videos before passing judgment. Would you have remained that composed at that age under those circumstances,” Massie said in a series of five tweets sent Sunday.

“In the face of racist and homosexual slurs, the young boys refused to reciprocate or disrespect anyone,” Massie added. Even when taunted by homophobic bigots, which was obviously bewildering to them, they insulted no one.”

    https://www.kentucky.com/news/state/kentucky/article224892445.html

  35. In the face of racist and homosexual slurs, the young boys refused to reciprocate or disrespect anyone

I’ve watched many of the various videos and disagree about disrespect. I still think their behaviour was yobbish and disrespectful.

Whee was Val Andreev when this was happening? Regardless of the rights or wrongs of what happened one would ahve thought that such a largegroup together behaving in such a way would have attracted the attention of their monitors?

  36. Apologies for the typing in haste typos.

  37. Paul

Their offense was exceptionally minimal, esp in light of the extreme provocation by the black racists and by the liar Phillips.

  38. I don’t disagree Phantom. I’ve always said that they were nothing more than ignorant, disrespectful ‘self entitled brats’ and shouldn’t be punished but should apologise for their behaviour.

I don’t see how Phillips was provocative and if he was it certainly wasn’t extreme.

  39. It is now certain that Phillips lied in a major way, leading to this being the major charged issue that it grew to be.

I see no reason at this point to give him the benefit of any doubt. I believe the students, going forward – there is no reason not to believe them.

I now see a puzzled student standing while Phillips is banging a drum in his face. What the hell was the kid supposed to do?

  40. My opinion is reached by what I have seen on the various videos.

I now see a puzzled student standing while Phillips is banging a drum in his face

I see a smirking, arrogant kid block the passage of an older man while his colleagues surround and jeer him. There’s also Pete’s video on his ‘humility’ post where the guy with the camera can clearly be heard saying to one of the schoolkids at approx 2.27:

‘we were here already. We were having a demonstration and now you come here and fucking do this’

That point seems to have been studiously ignored.

  41. Paul,

You are making yourself look ridiculous. Have a bit of humility for God’s sake.

  42. Phantom.

Fair play to you for this post mate. An honest, trustworthy man will always admit when he’s in the wrong.

  43. Imagine the liberal progressive righteous meltdown if those white kids had acted like those black supremacists.

  44. So you’re back Matt? Maybe now you’d like to explain how my comment that ‘self entitled brats’ behaving like ignorant, arrogant little shits is ‘disgraceful?’

Perhaps I just have a higher standard of how teenagers should behave towards older people?

  45. Should these kids’ lives be ruined because some of them responded to obnoxious provocation by being a bit rude themselves? I would say their reaction was, if anything, more restrained than you would expect from teenagers.

  46. The kids shouldn’t even be punished let alone have their lives ruined however IMO they should apologise for their yobbish behaviour. I see a smirking, arrogant kid block the passage of an older man while his colleagues surround and jeer him.

We were here already. We were having a demonstration and now you come here and fucking do this

Would anyone like to address this?

  47. I am so glad to see this Phantom.

There are a lot of scarily stupid twonks about. I think the lad who had the drum beaten so near his face was amazing. I don’t know that I would have been able to resist grabbing it off him, just to make it stop. I have seen a few comments in different places where people claim to know, not just suspect or think, that he was smirking. You are an ignoramus not to know that a nervous smile can appear like a smirk (something that thick teachers often don’t seem to grasp). However ignorance can be tackled with information. Stupid not so much. It is stupid to presume you can know that the kid was smirking. There would be some validity if they had knowledge of this lad and he had previous.

  48. Fair comments, good post.

    Patty –

That’s exactly it. The “traction” was in newsrooms, where too many journalists now seem to trawl Twitter and Facebook looking for anything which pushes their agenda.

  49. As I wrote on the original thread, this was not the Trail of Tears. The Indian Elder wasn’t minding his own business when he suddenly surrounded, and his credibility has faily been called into question. It seems to have been a convergence of competing agendas and while the behavior of the youngsters was not pristine, it certainly wasn’t egregious.

  50. I would like to see front page retractions from the major media that mis-reported this story.

  51. Mahons –

On the original you accused me of lying.

    Apology accepted.

  52. The Indian Elder wasn’t minding his own business when he suddenly surrounded

How do you explain the quote at 6.22 Mahons?

His credibility has faily been called into question

My opinion is based on what I’ve seen on the various videos and I still see a smirking, arrogant, dissrespectful teenage brat.

As I raised previously, I’d also like to know where the school group’s monitors were when this was happening.

  53. Pete – on the contrary, I repeat my claim. You wrote the students did nothing wrong and that Phantom posted it to show what a moral person he was.

  54. Paul – is the quote from a student? He used the f word? I don’t think that is particularly troublesome if the Elder marched up to him banging away on a drum. What might you have doe? I’d tell him to get the drum out of my face and likely suggest a location to store it.

  55. We were here already. We were having a demonstration and now you come here and fucking do this

    https://goo.gl/images/zqKR9b

  56. Paul – is the quote from a student? He used the f word?

No, it’s from one of the Indian group to one of the schoolkids.

What would I have done? I imagine I’d probably have sidestepped the drum player and walked on.

  57. That quote actually seems to corroborate that Phillips barged into the area where the students were.

  58. Maybe in an alternative universe Phantom.

  59. Paul –

Would it help to see an interview with Nathan Phillips, in which he says that he walked up to the boys?

    https://twitter.com/chrisbergPOVNOW/status/1087042478727942148

  60. Paul – The Elder said he walked up to the students. I don’t think a teenager smirking at some guy walking up to him banging a drum is really that offensive. By the way, I don’t know if this Elder got any closer to the Vietnam War than Trump.

  61. Well, so much for the theory that all elders are wise and good.

  62. If only some Druid with a bodhran walked into the First Dail and got smirked at by Colonel Plunkett. Then my post would have gotten more attention than the half dozen on this topic.

  63. Paul – The Elder said he walked up to the students

And? This is clearly heard on Pete’s video:

We were here already. We were having a demonstration and now you come here and fucking do this

I never said it was offensive. I said it was disrespectful and arrogant, which it was.

By the way, I’ve no interest in the elder’s army record, only on what’s happening in the video but since you raise it:

    https://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=84414&cpage=1

  64. Fun Fact

The airport for Cincinnati Ohio is in Kentucky.

    I’ve been there.

Short ride into Cincinnati, where you see the Reds and Bengals stadiums as you ride in.

  65. If only some Druid with a bodhran walked into the First Dail and got smirked at by Colonel Plunkett. Then my post would have gotten more attention than the half dozen on this topic.

    Outstanding 🙂

  66. Not Fun Fact

A work contact was from Kentucky. She drove back from NY State to Kentucky every so often to see her dad, a retired coal miner, who was dying of black lung.

Coal mining totally sucks as a job, and life in Kentucky can be hard.

  67. Nathan Phillips: Thank you for your support. I could do some more prayers. Honestly. I’m still scared. I’m still feeling vulnerable. But I’m not gonna back down. T

    Ffs!

    What a snowflake.

    Some ex Marine he is..

    What an embarrassment.

  68. Remember how we couldn’t crtiticize David Hogg because he was still a high school kid?

Isn’t the kid in the MAGA hat still in high school?

  69. I read this on Reddit:

Had an interesting conversation that should be heard. I asked if they would be interested an AMA, and was told that they were afraid to.
The families of the school have received death threats. The school has received threats ranging from being shot up, blown up, or “burned down with the kids inside.”
I made the comment “threats from celebrities, at that!” thinking that they were referring to the Twitter threats.
“I don’t give a damn about them. These are from people that live here.”
There is apparently something of a civil war brewing between teachers/parents/alumni and the Diocese & Principal, for their Saturday night condemnations of the children. There are demands for the Principal as well as the Bishop that made the statements to step down, particularly after remaining silent as the truth became apparent.
On the bright side, it would seem that a LARGE number of attorneys are alumni at the school, including a big-name attorney (I’m guessing his name will be in the public sphere soon) that has offered to do pro-bono work for the families and school in suing the pants off of the media. They mentioned going after the NYT in particular.
This isn’t going away. Fake News is actually going to have to pay for their crimes, for once, and wake up a lot of people in the process.

I hope that Covington kids/families do sue the MSM outlets for slander so they take some responsibility for feeding this dumpster fire.

  70. Perhaps Nathan Phillips served two combat tours at the Embassy in Saigon?

According to the Vietnam War Marine Corps Official History Volumes, the last combat marines left Vietnam in 1971:

    USMC Leaves Vietnam 1971

    https://cloverchronicle.com/2019/01/21/nathan-phillips-allegedly-lied-about-being-a-marine-combat-veteran-during-vietnam-war-according-to-reports/

  71. Patty -on a Post where Hogg was called a fascist I don’t recall you objecting. In fact you wrote he needed therapy.

  72. If Phillips served I suspect it was in the Vietnam Era as opposed to actual combat there. He could run for the Senate in Connecticut.

  73. Harri, I’ve no particular interest in Phillips’ military history or not but from my link above this would certainly suggest combat:

Following the failure of the Communists’ Easter Offensive and an intensive bombing campaign of North Vietnam, a peace treaty was finally signed in Paris on 27 January 1973

    https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/kissinger-discusses-draft-peace-treaty-with-president-thieu

[…] Unfortunately, peace was short lived in Vietnam, and in 1974 fighting resumed in both Cambodia and South Vietnam.

[…] On 15 May, a Marine Task Force under the command of Colonel John M. Johnson recovered the Mayaguez and her crew, but not without high losses.

    http://www.paperlessarchives.com/vw_marine_corps_official_histo.html

  74. If Phillips served I suspect it was in the Vietnam Era

    Perhaps.

  75. Paul – it kind of diminishes his credibilty.

  76. Stolen valor isn’t a popular thing round here.

  77. Washington Post Correction: Nathan Phillips ‘Was Never Deployed to Vietnam’

    https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2019/01/22/washington-post-correction-nathan-phillips-was-never-deployed-to-vietnam/

  78. I don’t know about his service history or none lads.

From what I can see that article above seems to be a fair examination of what’s been said an the context it was said in and from what I’m reading it certainly doesn’t suggest stolen valor ATM. With the other accusations levelled against him, the Marines official history above clearly shows that they were in combat after 1971.

  79. Paul – he has made his service status part of his story (as have those who championed him). If he is lying about that then it casts a shadow on his story.

  80. Paul – he has made his service status part of his story

From what I can see in the ‘Valour Vultures’ site linked to above it seems to be the media that have claimed he was a Vietnam vet as opposed to him himself. The Breitbart article about the Wapo retraction would also seem to support this?

  81. Apart from getting everything wrong, Paul’s right on top of this story.

  82. I think that I heard him say on TV that he was a Vietnam vet.

  83. He said at 1:10 in this CNN interview –

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvbsqk0HOWw

  84. An imposter as well as a liar.

Does he get an award for this?

  85. I used to look at TV adverts for (say) McDonalds or Coca-Cola and think “why do they still need to advertise? Surely everyone has heard of these brands; you can’t escape from them in everyday life”. -Until I realised that that wasn’t the point of such adverts. The point was simply to keep up the overall image and brand identity in peoples’ subconscious minds. To constantly remind you via colourful imagery and smiling faces that “I’m Loving It” or whatever.
And this is, I think, kind of what we see in this (non)-story. The actual facts aren’t the important thing to the Fake News Media when they turn this nonsense into a story. It doesn’t matter whether or not the kid smiled or swore at the other person. All you’re supposed to take from it is another drip, drip, drip in the never-ending ocean of anti-Trunp hysteria. “MAGA hat…controversy…Trump bad racist and stuff”. Just push that narrative every day, week, month, year until it becomes accepted as reality.
It wasn’t “social media” which propagated this “story; social media (amateurs with cameras) BUSTED it and exposed it. But to the FNM that doesn’t matter too much; the seed has been sown, the drip-drip continues.

  86. Ah, no he didn’t.

He said “I’m a Vietnam times veteran”

It’s not clear what he exactly means by that.

  87. I’m a veteran who has visited Vietnam.

Does that make me a Vietnam veteran?

  88. Paul – it is possibly lost in translation culturaly, but when someone cites Vietnam Era service and uses the phrase we were expendable and doesn’t clarify the nature of their service it is a big No No here in the US.

  89. So, we’re agreed that it seems to be the media that have claimed he was a Vietnam vet as opposed to him himself?

This ‘Valor Vultures’ site seems to have it correct:

    https://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=84414&cpage=1

I wonder if it transpires to be correct will we have the retractions and apologies and outrage at the ‘trial by media’ that the Covington kids had?

Apart from getting everything wrong, Paul’s right on top of this story.

For a change you’re only half incorrect Pete.

  90. Paul – it is possibly lost in translation culturaly, but when someone cites Vietnam Era service and uses the phrase we were expendable and doesn’t clarify the nature of their service it is a big No No here in the US.

Mahons, the actual former US servicemen in ‘It Ain’t Hell’ seem to disagree.

  91. Paul – sometimes you just have to let go of a certain point. This is one of them.

  92. Confucius say, “High Horse sometimes hard to climb down from.”

  93. If it’s all the same guys I’ll go with the ex military people at ‘It Aint Hell’ who deal with ‘ Valor Vultures’ when they say:

Some will be quick to claim it a case of Stolen Valor but what did Mr. Phillips actually claim? Others may be embarrassed that they went with a story too quickly before all the facts were checked – because it was too sexy to ignore and it fit their narrative. It will be interesting to see how some folks will backtrack.

As the old saying goes – time will tell.

  94. Hey, we’re straying from the narrative here, chaps. Who cares what “Runs Like Bull From Soap (and Job Applications)” said or didn’t say? Just repeat this mantra 200 times:
    Trump is a wacist, wah-wah-wacist
    Wah-wah-wah-wah-WAH-wah-wacist
    Trump is a wacist, wah-wah-wacist
Wah wah wacist, WAH wah wah”
Just keep on repeating it and believing it. Don’t worry, we’ll have another little story for you tomorrow to reinforce this truth.

  95. Paul – and some people stuck with a flat earth theory.

  96. Trump’s racism is not based upon this particular incident.

  97. What exactly IS it based on then? Give me a few verbatim DT quotes that prove beyond all doubt that he wishes actual bodily violence upon non-white persons.

  98. Oh what a Tangled Web we weave when first we practice to deceive……

  99. It’s your fellow countrymen former military vets you’re arguing with Mahons, not me.

  100. Is Donald Trump supposed to be a “racist” merely for trying to build a wall to keep out ILLEGAL immigrants? If so, then I trust that all those who agree with this sentiment have dismantled the front (and back) doors to their homes and have replaced them with signs reading “All welcome! Come Right In!” and that they go to bed each night with their houses in this state. Otherwise, well, they are ever so slightly hypocritical.

Then you can show us where he lied.

  102. a) a group of known black racists were the initial troublemakers

Has anybody actually watched the footage? The ‘black racists’ stuff was in fact fairly good-natured banter and nobody was offended by anybody else. Here it is at 4.30….

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=29&v=npX801xLSFY

As for those on ATW who wrote that the scene was “intimidating”, get a fucking grip!!

So the entire event was a good-natured nothing, but somebody wanted to turn it into a something, with the ‘bad whites’ narrative. Still, it’s a laugh to see Paul willing to die on this hill: smarter folk left to fight on elsewhere.

  103. Phillips…, told The Detroit Free Press that the Covington kids “were in the process of attacking these four black individuals. I was there and I was witnessing all of this. … As this kept on going on and escalating, it just got to a point where you do something or you walk away, you know?

Do you think that those kids attacked any of the 0 black Israelites “?

  104. but somebody wanted to turn it into a something

Yeah, that’s one of the things I’m wondering about. I’d bet that the FNM were on hand right from the start, trying to whip this up into something to support their nasty narative.

  105. I also read that some commentators are aghast that the Left would “stoop so low” as to use adolescents to further their narrative, and I couldn’t help but think, “Ye Gods! These are the people who are willing to go to the ends of the earth to defend the ripping of millions of unborn children (the most vulnerable, the very LEAST able to defend themselves) from their mothers’ wombs, and people are aghast that they target adolescents, who are at least SOMEWHAT able to defend themselves from these attacks”. What on earth is the surprise there? This is mere lightweight nastiness compared to their usual policies!

  106. The NYT is attempting to get itself out of the hole that it dug for itself – this is the power of public media, exposing a mendacious agenda, but the NYT cannot bring itself to the truth as shown in footage……

    NYT on Sunday 20th January

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/20/us/nathan-phillips-covington.html

A fuller and more complicated picture emerged on Sunday of the videotaped encounter between a Native American man and a throng of high school boys wearing “Make America Great Again” gear outside the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.

“Complicated”? – the word is ‘truthful’. The footage taken by people who were there shows what happened, and the extent of the NYT’s lies. They were caught out very badly.

Interviews and additional video footage suggest that an explosive convergence of race, religion and ideological beliefs — against a national backdrop of political tension — set the stage for the viral moment. Early video excerpts from the encounter obscured the larger context, inflaming outrage.

One should ask the NYT to investigate who did the inflaming, and why. But that won’t happen, because it would reveal that the NYT and the rest of the MSM did the inflaming – but why?

Soon, the Native American man, Nathan Phillips, 64, was encircled by an animated group of high school boys. He beat a ceremonial drum as a boy wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat stood inches away. The boy identified himself in a statement released on Sunday night as Nick Sandmann, a junior.

It was a provocative image that rocketed across social media, leading many, including the students’ own school, to condemn the boys’ behavior as disrespectful. But on Sunday, Mr. Phillips clarified that it was he who had approached the crowd and that he had intervened because racial tensions — primarily between the white students and the black men — were “coming to a boiling point.”

Garbage – there was banter, lots of laughing and joking, no tension. Be clear that I’m not the only viewer of this footage at ATW who sees this.

In his statement, Mr. Sandmann said he did not antagonize or try to block Mr. Phillips. “I did not speak to him. I did not make any hand gestures or other aggressive moves,” he said.

    And that is visibly true.

The encounter became the latest touch point for racial and political tensions in America, with diverging views about what really had happened.

What really happened is that the MSM attempted to stoke up trouble out of a non-event by presenting a false narrative on carefully selected images, and got caught in the lie by the distribution of the truth.

But this is interesting, because it shows that the NYT and the rest of the MSM are still on a mission…….

The parent and Mr. Sandmann’s statement denied that the students chanted about building a wall at the border with Mexico, as Mr. Phillips had said. But in an interview on Sunday, Chase Iron Eyes, a spokesman for the Indigenous Peoples Movement, which organized the march, said he had also heard chants of “build that wall,” a rallying cry of supporters of Mr. Trump.

The MSM are attempting to make ‘the Wall’ the w-word.

Anyway, here is the NYT setting the new low for fake news the day before it blew smoke and made a retreat……

NYT on Saturday 19th January – and what a difference a day makes

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/19/us/covington-catholic-high-school-nathan-phillips.html

“This veteran put his life on the line for our country,” Representative Deb Haaland, a Democrat of New Mexico who recently became one of the first Native American women to serve in Congress, said on Twitter. “The students’ display of blatant hate, disrespect, and intolerance is a signal of how common decency has decayed under this administration. Heartbreaking.”

In a statement on Saturday, the Indigenous Peoples Movement identified the man in the videos as Nathan Phillips, an Omaha elder, a veteran and the former director of the Native Youth Alliance, a group that works to ensure that traditional culture and spiritual ways are upheld for future generations. Mr. Phillips also holds an annual ceremony honoring Native American veterans in Arlington National Cemetery, the group said.

Mr. Phillips could not be reached for comment on Saturday. He told The Washington Post that he noticed the teenagers taunting participants at the Indigenous Peoples March.

Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s Democratic secretary of state who graduated from a Catholic high school, said in statements on social media that she was alarmed to see the students from her state taunting and harassing Mr. Phillips.

  107. It appears that the greatest danger that this bum has faced would have been Carpal tunnel from beating his drum

  108. Do you think that those kids attacked any of the 0 black Israelites “?

Nope – nor was it going to happen. Others agree…….

I’ve watched a lot of the long video link below. which shows that everyone present on this day, was actually pretty well behaved.

This is the reality – youngsters who have been found by public-footage to have done no wrong, contrary to the vilification from media on a deliberately false narrative, have received death threats.

  109. //Do you think that those kids attacked any of the 0 black Israelites “?//

Sorry, I thought you were claiming he lied about his military service.

  110. Good line Phantom.

  112. Paul 6:15

I never went away, to paraphrase someone or other!
I visit this site most days. I comment rarely but couldn’t resist on this occasion. Those kids were provoked and behaved remarkedly well in the circumstances. To argue otherwise with the truth evident on the video suggests possible visual impairment, prejudice or stupidity.

  113. A@A

I’ll take no lectures from ‘dying on a hill’ defending an opinion or intimidation from someone who was so intimidated of defending his opinions to mild mannered Seimi that he planned to be sick at the time of Seimi’s visit. At least you’ve rowed back down from your risible ‘the kid was persecuted because of the colour of his skin’ claim though

    Mahons

I’m beating nothing, it’s the conclusion of your fellow countrymen & women vets that you’re disagreeing with. (Literally) go tell it to the Marines.

    Matt

I wear glasses to read but my vision is otherwise fine, the only thing I’m prejudiced against in this case is bad manners. As for the mildly insulting ‘stupidity’ remark, I’ve explained why I’ve reached the conclusion I have numerous times and for you to dismiss that as ‘stupid’ maybe says more about you than it does me. At least none of these are however ‘disgraceful’.

  114. Paul 10:32

You must be deaf then! 🙂

  115. Compelling proposition Matt.

  116. Paul,

The kids are the victims here. Unfortunately they don’t fit the leftie victim demographic.
If you want bad manners, what about the behaviour of the racists and the so-called “elder”?
They stood their ground. Fair play to them in the face of provocation.

  117. Matt, the Black Hebrew head the balls’ behaviour was vile and ugly, what else would you expect from a handful of eegit racist black spremicists? I thought that was taken as read. What is it you’d like me to say about them?

    What about Phillips’ behaviour?

If those kids were ‘victims’ of anything they were victims of their own arrogant cockiness and bad manners.

  118. No Paul,

They were victimised in the square and they were victimised in the media. In the greater scheme of things, they deserve at least a pass for their minor transgressions and hopefully they will get a lot more when the MSM has to pay for it’s gross behaviour.

But no, in your leftie hierarchial victim world, their “bad manners” trumps (no pub intended) the racism and the lies of the so-called “elder”
    .
I see only one eegit here Paul.

  119. In the meantime, lots of media, including major media like the NY Daily News are still spinning this as a story of wicked students, who ( grab your chiché to English dictionary ) were using White Privilege

And still many are referring to the Fraud as a ” Vietnam Vet ”

” A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get it’s pants on “, as the great man said.

  120. I see only one eegit here Paul.

O’Go screaming, hats first, into the woodchipper’: Liberal celebs including Kathy Griffin, Disney producer Jack Morrissey and Ron Perlman rush to delete furious tweets about Covington teens after new video suggests confrontation wasn’t one sidedh there’s so many more, they just happen to be liberals as well.

    She ain’t that.

  125. Paul – it is the speculation of a few, not the conclusion of the majority. Please cop on.

  126. They were victimised in the square and they were victimised in the media

Victimised in the square? A group of head the ball black supremicists shouted theings at them because they were wearing MAGA hats.

While it was vile and ugly it was only words. Victimisation? who would’ve thought Trump supporters would be such snowflakes but I will agree that they were badly treated by some sections of the (mostly social) media.

But no, in your leftie hierarchial victim world, their “bad manners” trumps (no pub intended) the racism and the lies of the so-called “elder”

The only time that I have ever referred to anything remotely political on this issue was when A@A and Patty tried to spin that they were being persecuted because they were white and above in relation to the black whackos taunting them because they were wearing MAGA hats. I’d suggest that your continuous referral to ‘lefties’ speaks more about your own prejudices than anything.
    .

I see only one eegit here Paul

As said before, mild insults are a compelling proposition Dave.

Paul – it is the speculation of a few, not the conclusion of the majority. Please cop on.

Mahons, it’s all speculation and my opinions are based on what I’ve seen in the various videos. Maybe I just have a higher expectation of how teenagers should behave around older people.

  127. I doubt it.

  128. Doubt away.

  129. It appears the poor shaken Nathan Phillips, just can’t keep out of trouble…

    He’s obviously got serious issues…

No white kids wearing MAGA baseball caps to blame either.

Native American man, 64, from viral clash led 60 protesters up the steps to the Basilica of the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception and ‘tried to disrupt mass’ a day AFTER being left ‘shaken and overwhelmed’ by confrontation with Catholic students
On Saturday night, Nathan Phillips joined 60 protesters outside the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
They said they wanted to ‘hold the Catholic church accountable’ for the events the previous day
On Friday, Phillips came face-to-face with a group of students from Covington Catholic High School
The clash went viral when a video of the kids taunting him as he sang emerged
At the Basilica protest, Phillips, 64, led the group up the steps while singing
Security guards said they tried to enter the church and disrupt a mass but were blocked
One said the group was ‘very angry’ and that it was terrifying for those inside

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6623369/Native-American-man-led-60-protesters-steps-National-Shrine-day-viral-clash.html

  130. Now it morphs into an anti Catholic thing.

My opinion of this bum sinks lower every hour.

He is the new Tawana Brawley, nothing more.

  131. If that’s true then it’s wrong and irresponsible.

  132. This guy sure is milking his 15 minutes of fame. Be off!

  133. Paul: “The only time that I have ever referred to anything remotely political on this issue was when A@A and Patty tried to spin that they were being persecuted because they were white and above in relation to the black whackos taunting them because they were wearing MAGA hats.”

I don’t remember ever mentioning the Black whatever they were at the rally.

I kindly request that if you have a point to make that you make it without bringing me into it if I’m not around to respond or comment.

ATM would be a much better site if the commentators argued the controversy, not the person, if you would argue with me over the issue, not against my person.

  134. ATW, not ATM – lol

  135. I don’t remember ever mentioning the Black whatever they were at the rally

You didn’t. That’s why I used the linking connecter and and the preposition above to signal I was referring to Matt’s comment.

The comment about you trying to spin that they were being persecuted because they were white still stands.

  136. “The comment about you trying to spin that they were being persecuted because they were white still stands.”

If the kid had been only white, or only Catholic, I don’t think there would have been the media pile-on.

I am more cynical than that. I think the MAGA hat started the pile-on. I cynically think that many journalists are Progressive activists – like the Indian tom-tom drum guy – and they piled on this kid in order to make the MAGA hat undesirable – they don’t want any outward show of support for President Trump.

The kid is just a pawn in this game of “shame and silence.”

At the end of the day, this is about power and an attempt to silence anyone who is against the Left’s recapturing of power in Washington DC.

Joy Behar – the loud mouth political talkshow entertainer on TV – let the cat out of the bag and actually said as much. God bless her.

  137. Nathan Phillips has a criminal record

Native American activist Nathan Phillips, whose confrontation with a Kentucky high school student went viral last week, has a criminal record, including assault and escape from prison, according to a report.

    Oh my.

  138. Kentucky teens family hires high profile libel attorney

The family of a Catholic school student at the center of a confrontation with a Native American elder in Washington, DC, has hired a high-profile attorney, according to a report.

    L. Lin Wood, who is known for aggressively pursuing libel and slander lawsuits against media outlets, “is committed to bringing justice to 16-year-old Nick Sandmann and his family,” the family’s other lawyer, Todd McMurtry, said in a statement, according to WCPO.

I’d think that the chances of Sandmann prevailing in a libel case against major media outlets is much higher than 50%. I believe many of them have never retracted anything, and have left up articles that are defamatory and that the outlets know to be false.

  139. Bishop Roger Foys of Covington, Ky., Friday wrote in a letter to Covington Catholic parents that he had felt “pressured by all sides” to speak out right away about an incident at the Lincoln Memorial last week, did so prematurely and now apologizes to “anyone who has been offended in any way.” Foys especially apologized to the Covington teens in the altercation and said “it is my hope and expectation that the results will exonerate them.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2019/01/24/third-kentucky-bishop-apologizes-covington-catholic-high-school-students/?utm_term=.6a58c6d018f2

Well, to an extent, that settles that.

A tip of the hat to the bishop for apologizing, Frankly, I did not expect that.

  140. The Bishop is a crank….. the fact that he made this statement is a shock… good for him.

  141. More yobbish behaviour at the Lincoln Memorial?

The Covington Catholic boys harrassed my friends and I before the incident with Nathan Phillips even happened. I’m tired of reading things saying they were provoked by anyone else other than their own egos and ignorance

Any thoughts on what they actually did do in the latest video where they can be heard jeering ‘MAGA’ ‘build that wall’ and possibly ‘slut’ at some young women?

  146. “MAGA” – dreadful. “Build that wall” – well, it remains the basis of Trump’s election win and is what Trump is apparently attempting to pursue. Is a Presidential policy a slur?

And “…..possibly ‘slut’ at some young women” – you have seen the footage so either it did or did not happen.

polarising political slogans at a ‘life’ rally

Is there a more polarising issue in the US?

  156. But you definitely heard ‘build that wall’?

Yes, ‘build that waaaallllll’ is perfectly audible around halfway through the video.

Is there a more polarising issue in the US?

Possibly. It still doesn’t detract from the fact that the boys are yobbishly shouting polarising political slogans.

  157. Colm, on January 26th, 2019 at 12:05 PM Said:

My God are we still dissecting this non event.

Colm – it should have been a non-event, because nothing happened.

Still, it’s fascinating to watch Paul totally shot-to-pieces but still keeping it going

  158. the boys are yobbishly shouting polarising political slogans

OK – is there an alternative to ‘yobbishly’? Have you ever heard political slogans shouted by youngsters in a polite, refined manner and, if so, can you provide an example?

  159. You’ll find that I haven’t commeted on it in three days only introduced the new video after Phantom & Pat’s comments above Allan.

your 12.51 is irrelevant to a thread where provocation is being discussed.

  160. Still, it’s fascinating to watch Paul totally shot-to-pieces but still keeping it going

So desperate in fact, he has resorted to postings a video shot by a raging racist homophobic violent bigot.

    Most out of character.

  161. Allan

I don’t see Paul being being shot to pieces. I see a lot of argument from both sides based largely on what people want to see from this incident as happens with all ‘Culture war’ online viral events.

  162. Harri, would you expalin the point you’re trying to make with tweets from 2012/13 and what relevance they have to a video of the Covington boys shouting provocative political slogans to a group of young women in 2019?

    Thanks.

  163. Colm,

I concede that the original video is open to subjection but think that the latest video is pretty definitive and is, at the very least, corroborating evidence to the original video.

  164. Ah, Paul

  165. No comments on the new video Phantom?

  166. Phantom, on January 26th, 2019 at 1:10 PM Said:
    Ah, Paul

I think we can safely put it down to boredom.

  167. Harri makes another ‘point’.

  168. Yup..

    Boredom.

  169. Twitter link doesn’t work on this machine

  170. Say, for purposes of argument, that they did chant “build the wall.” So what? The lads can’t express a political belief, and one that half the country shares?

If they made a mistake, it was believing that they still lived in a free country!

  171. Charles, people are free to say what they wish but are you suggesting that ‘build that wall’ isn’t a polarising, provocative comment?

Why would a bunch of Catholic school boys at a ‘life’ march jeer and shout such provocative comments, (build that wall is perfectly audible in the video), at a group of young women and do you agree that it shows the Covington boys in a different light than previously?

  172. Charles

I guess it would depend on if they were chanting it at a group of people they think should be on the other side of the wall !

  173. Paul, not at all. I think they were quite restrained for teenage boys. I have said before, however, that they should have been on their best behaviour as they were ambassadors for their school and their Faith. Some did not rise to the the nature of our better angels.

  174. Colm, true dat!

  175. The kids are alright

  176. They need to make a movie about his whole seminal incident. It will go down in history like the JFK shooting, or the fall of the Berlin Wall or as I mentioned earlier Janet flashing a nip 😉

  177. All kids need a good sparking 😱

  178. Charles, there has been a lot of talk of provocation on this thread.

Why would a group of (unable to vote) teenage boys shout such provocative political comments, (as well as allegedly shouting a sexual slur), at a group of young women?

People are of course free to express whatever political opinions they wish but on a thread heavy with allegations of provocation this video casts a completely different light on the boys than that of the original video.

  179. The kids are alright

Yeah, Pete Townsend seemed to think so…..

  180. Tempest in a teacup Paul.

I also don’t know where the MAGA hats came from. Why are they wearing them at a pro-life march?

  181. We hear that they had just purchased the hats from a local vendor

  182. Make Abortion Gross Again ?

  183. Splendid Colm! Now put away your cat o’nine tails!

  184. I’m a devout Catholic Charles. I have even had our local bishop rub his oil on me when I was a teenager 😉

……. I am of course referring to my Confirmation ceremony !

  185. Bloody hell. Is this thread still going on!

  186. Here’s the full video and the action involving the white kids starts about 1.00.00. Up until then it’s the black guys giving their stuff, and they are superb entertainment. They are loud, provocative but entertaining and remarakably unthreatening – “dusty-ass crackaz….” etc but great banter:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OblYLTWfR20

Anyway, I cannot locate where those threatening white hooligans shout ‘build that wall’.

    In any case…….

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/bishop-apologizes-teen-who-faced-native-american-n963056

In a letter to parents, the Most Rev. Roger Foys said the diocese was too quick to condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students, particularly those of Nicholas Sandmann, the boy who was seen on video facing off with Native American elder Nathan Phillips as he performed the song “American Indian Movement” near the Lincoln Memorial.

“We should not have allowed ourselves to be bullied and pressured into making a statement prematurely, and we take full responsibility for it,” Foys wrote. “I especially apologize to Nicholas Sandmann and his family, as well as to all CovCath families who have felt abandoned during this ordeal.”

Many of the students were wearing MAGA hats and clothing. Phillips said some chanted “build the wall” in reference to President Donald Trump’s vow to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

That’s the problem: Phillips said…..but I can’t find where the youngsters chanted ‘Build that wall’.

Paul reckons that ‘polarising’ slogans should not be shouted – but the event that the youngsters attended was the most polarising subject in the US, even more that the wall, so Paul’s notion is absurd as is his position on this matter.

Oh – and Phillips was not impeded but walked up to the youngsters and confronted them – seen at 1.12.20, and I’m leading the horse (Paul) to water.

At 1.16.06, the black dude tells the white kids to “go take a shit, but shoot up a school before you do it” – and it’s taken as banter. For all the blood-curdling language, there’s just no threat of violence from the crackaz – but “there’s one nigger in the crowd” at 1.18.30

  187. Tempest in a teacup Paul

The quantity of posts, my own and yours included, here might suggest differently. Is the tune changing now that this video surfaced?

I also don’t know where the MAGA hats came from. Why are they wearing them at a pro-life march?

Legitimate question. Why are they also shouting provocative political slogans at a ‘life’ march?

I am of course referring to my Confirmation ceremony !

You didn’t kiss the Bishop’s ring like every other eleven year old?

  188. It will never end Dave. It will reappear on another post at another time when another event happens which makes the Right/Left ( delete as appropriate) look bad. 189. Paul

What happened with the Bishops ring stays in the confession box 😉

  190. Allan, can you here ‘build that waalllll’ on the new video? I can.

The old video’s been dealt with many, many times above.

Paul reckons that ‘polarising’ slogans should not be shouted

People are of course free to express whatever political opinions they wish but on a thread heavy with allegations of provocation this video casts a completely different light on the boys than that of the original video.

There, I fixed that lie for you Allan.

  191. Trumpers, NeverTrumpers, Brexiteers, Remainers, Libs, Cons, Racists, snowflakes, hippies, dippies, Toxic men, Triggered women, transgendered not men, and all the other squabbling tribes in our online debating planet !

Don’t you dare to condescendingly oppress me!

  192. Yes Paul I apologise for not including whinging paddies in that list 😉

  193. lol

  194. Colm,

It will never end Dave. It will reappear on another post at another time when another event happens which makes the Right/Left ( delete as appropriate) look bad. That’s what we all do nowadays. Trumpers, NeverTrumpers, Brexiteers, Remainers, Libs, Cons, Racists, snowflakes, hippies, dippies, Toxic men, Triggered women, transgendered not men, and all the other squabbling tribes in our online debating planet !

    Well said Colm.
what amazes me, is the hypocrisy of certain people on ATW. They go on the attack over some trivial comment or slur, made by the ‘other side’. But then defend to the hilt thier own side, when they do exactly the same. It’s almost like they have their hypocrisy filter disabled.

  195. Paul. I think you need to let this one go mate. 😁

  196. Oh deary me.

The left will be in a bit of a quandary over this one..

There might not be enough righteous points to go round.

A day later she then branded Irish people ‘inbred’, ‘leprechauns’ and asked if they ‘had a famine to go die in’ in a series of social media comments while out in Ireland

    Dave, as explained above:

You’ll find that I haven’t commeted on it in three days only introduced the new video after Phantom & Pat’s comments above Allan.

It took them two days to dredge the internet? Must be a slow news day at the rag.

  199. Look why can’t we just admit that we are all flawed individuals with imperfect political views…..

…. well all except me of course 😍

  200. Paul McMahon, on January 26th, 2019 at 2:18 PM Said:

Allan, can you here ‘build that waalllll’ on the new video? I can

Paul – neither your nor my comments can change what’s on those videos. Now, can you give me the approximate timeline from where the Covington boys chanted ‘build that wall’? I’ve been over it several times and I am willing to admit wrong on this when you show me, but I still can’t find it

  201. Paul – neither your nor my comments can change what’s on those videos

But can you hear ‘build that waaalllll’ on the new video?

  202. It’s almost like they have their hypocrisy filter disabled.

Dave – we’re all hypocrites, to an extent, but perhaps me less than many. An example is that Paul was on about Trump chasing a married woman, and I queried how Trump would know that she was married. In due course, Paul produced a photo of said woman with ring, and in her working environment – so that was the end of that one. All I want is that Paul, who insists that the Covington group chanted a well-known political phrase ‘build that wall’, show where in the video footage available that it happened.

As for the hypocrisy of me supporting a man who pursues a married woman, I don’t care: Trump’s sole purpose is to get that wall built. If Trump were a rampant homo, nothing changes – BUILD THE WALL. And there’s no hypocrisy because Trump’s personal conduct is disconnected from what I want of him

  203. Allan

You don’t live in the USA . Why on earth should you care about a wall between the USA and Mexico. You didn’t elect him or have a say in that election and you aren’t American. It is ludicrous that you even have a desire for “ What I want of him “

  204. All I want is that Paul, who insists that the Covington group chanted a well-known political phrase ‘build that wall’, show where in the video footage available that it happened

If you can point me to where I claimed that they chanted ‘build that wall’ in the original video I’ll gladly retract it. If you can’t I’ll expect an apology for missrepresentation.

Can you hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video?

  205. Paul McMahon, on January 26th, 2019 at 2:18 PM Said:

My opinion is reached by what I have seen on the various videos.

As I have shown you, at 1.12.20 Phillips was not impeded but walked up to the youngsters and confronted them……..

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OblYLTWfR20

So where is the video footage of those youngsters chanting ‘build that wall’? I have no problem with you providing this and showing my failure to locate it

  206. Yeah, I do recall writing that. I don’t recall claiming anything about building a wall-

So where is the video footage of those youngsters chanting ‘build that wall’?

    Once again:

If you can point me to where I claimed that they chanted ‘build that wall’ in the original video I’ll gladly retract it. If you can’t I’ll expect an apology for missrepresentation.

Can you hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video?

    Well?

  207. Can you hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video?

What new video? If the Covington youngsters were chanting ‘build that wall’ we would have heard it because chanting is not something that gets missed.

Anyway, I support the wall and I see nothing wrong with it.

  208. What new video?

The one that I linked to at 9.32 above.

If the Covington youngsters were chanting ‘build that wall’ we would have heard it because chanting is not something that gets missed.

I never claimed they were chanting either. Much like:

If you can point me to where I claimed that they chanted ‘build that wall’ in the original video I’ll gladly retract it. If you can’t I’ll expect an apology for missrepresentation.

If you can point me to where I claimedd they were chanting in the most recent video I’ll gladly retract it. If you can’t I’ll expect an apology for missrepresentation.

Can you hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video?

    So?

  209. Allan

Dave – we’re all hypocrites, to an extent, but perhaps me less than many.

I mostly agree with you there Allan

  210. Paul – you are deliberately confused, and obviously it’s blowing smoke to cover your ridiculous

I see a smirking, arrogant kid block the passage of an older man

when we could all see that Phillips walked up to the Covington group and confronted them. The subject matter is…….

A lot of people were making videos of the incident. At least one of these videos, it appears, was taken by an ally of Phillips. Yet I haven’t come across a video that shows the Covington kids chanting “build that wall,” as a Washington Post reporter claimed, much less “attacking” black people, as Phillips says.

so the Covington group were not chanting ‘build that wall’ – and no footage shows any such chanting otherwise we would never have heard the end of it. But we all see Phillips walking up to the Covington group – the large group subject of the ‘event’, and confronting them – right?

  211. Paul is obsessed with these boys, and will never concede an inch at any time

  212. Phantom,

Paul is obsessed with these boys, and will never concede an inch at any time

Oh-er misses, sounds a bit rude!!!

Over a half hour has passed since I made that comment and your 4.05. I imagine that’s time enough for you to have checked the comments here and realised that your accusations that I had claimed the Covingtom boys were chanting ‘build that wall’ are absolute bullshit.

Let me make his completely clear. I never claimed that the Covington boys chanted ‘builf that wall’ in any of the videos. Now that you’re you’ve realised that you missrepresented me above you don’t seem to have the good grace to admit your mistake much less apologise for the missrepresentation.

I can hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video, can you?

Phantom, your flippant comment in absence of a comment on the boys behaviour in the latest video is noted.

  214. Try to send your next video – because I’m sure there will be another one – in a format other than Twitter

I did manage to look at it now on another device

I don’t know if your video is authentic

I don’t know if the youth is in it are part of the same group that we saw initially

It apparently Was taken in a different time at a different specific location

The males that are yelling Almost sound drunk, when none of the Covington high kids sounded that way at all

Why would they be yelling build the wall at a random woman walking down the street? I thought they were evil white southern crackers Who wanted to massacre again the Indians with words?

This video doesn’t prove or indicate anything to any reasonable person.

There was a recording by the way, Played on the Michael savage podcast, where Mr. Phillips claimed to be a Vietnam veteran

Paul, you are very obsessed about these good kids. It’s very hard to understand. Admit that you’re wrong, and will

  215. And we will Move on

Except that you won’t admit that you’re wrong

  216. I don’t know if your video is authentic

I don’t know if the youth is in it are part of the same group that we saw initially

It apparently Was taken in a different time at a different specific location

The males that are yelling Almost sound drunk, when none of the Covington high kids sounded that way at all

The video shows a group of teenagers wearing MAGA hats in the immediate vicinity of where the original video was recorded, (the nearby Lincoln Memorial is in clear view). It was apparently taken prior to the Phillips incident and the video poster says they are Coverington boys.

The boys don’t sound drunk at all. They sound like a group of teenagers jeering in a similar way as the teenagers in the original video-

Why would they be yelling build the wall at a random woman walking down the street? I thought they were evil white southern crackers Who wanted to massacre again the Indians with words?

You may think that. All I’ve ever suggested was that they were bad mannered, ignorant louts. Much like the teenagers in the second video.

This video doesn’t prove or indicate anything to any reasonable person

    I absolutely disagree.

Paul, you are very obsessed about these good kids. It’s very hard to understand. Admit that you’re wrong, and we will move on

Obsessed? The new video was in response to your comment earlier about the Bishop. My last comment prior to today was on the 23rd whereas you have continued to consecutively comment on the issue every day.

  217. Will we ever get off the Catholic cracker kids, the nutty native and the barmy blacks ?

  218. Colm

    Not for a while

I think that they’ll be talking about this incident for years here

It reveals a great deal about people, how they respond to some things, and not respond to other things

  219. Colm,

Will we ever get off the Catholic cracker kids, the nutty native and the barmy blacks ?

Putting aside the original media misrepresentation of the Catholic kids, I really can’t see where people are getting so hot under the collar about this.
Having painstakingly sat through the original long video, I can’t see that anyone in particular, does anything really bad or newsworthy.
It surprises me that people are trying to take sides on this issue.

  220. On Bill Mahers HBO last night, He was -very- critical of the students. And had nothing bad to say about the liar Phillips

    https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bill-maher-attacks-smirk-face-covington-catholic-hs-student-jokes-about-priests-sex-abuse-of-kids

And this is from a guy who can be a truth teller when he wants to be

The lefties and reverse racists want to destroy the students. The fact that they’ve done nothing wrong is of no concern.

  221. They can’t afford to have anything wholesome be shown to exist in our society. It doesn’t match their narrative and whenever decency rears it’s head it must be smeared.

  222. The lefties and reverse racists want to destroy the students. The fact that they’ve done nothing wrong is of no concern.

Nail hit squarely on head Phantom.

That’s about the gist of it.

  223. They can’t afford to have anything wholesome be shown to exist in our society. It doesn’t match their narrative and whenever decency rears it’s head it must be smeared.

The intolerance from liberals, is at times, absolutely staggering.

  224. They feel that even if the students did no wrong, destroying them fits a necessary narrative against

    “ toxic masculinity “

    “ white privilege “

    Southerners

    Catholics

I’ve heard every one of these terms used repeatedly in various discussions of this issue, including in major media

This checks every box that the bad guys have

  225. Patrick Van Roy,

They can’t afford to have anything wholesome be shown to exist in our society. It doesn’t match their narrative and whenever decency rears it’s head it must be smeared.

How does this claim relate to the incident involving the Catholic kids Patrick?

  226. Phantom, on January 26th, 2019 at 5:51 PM Said:
They feel that even if the students did no wrong, destroying them fits a necessary narrative against

    Phantom.

I said at the start of this thread, the problem here is..

The kids are white and wearing MAGA baseball caps.

It really has come to something when a so called liberal, albeit a seriously intolerant one, is so desperate, they post a video up as “evidence” which was shot by a racist, homophobic violent bigot.

  227. Yes, the hats.

I don’t like Trump, but Think that no one should be harassed for wearing that gear.

If someone is triggered by a MAGA hat, they can drop dead this afternoon. That person is the problem, not the hat, not the person wearing the hat

  228. Not for a while

I think that they’ll be talking about this incident for years here

Comin from one of the more prolific commentators on the story that’s a bit rich.

Having painstakingly sat through the original long video, I can’t see that anyone in particular, does anything really bad or newsworthy.

I agree Dave. It was an incident blown all out of proportion by social media, including by us here.

It really has come to something when a so called liberal, albeit a seriously intolerant one, is so desperate, they post a video up as “evidence” which was shot by a racist, homophobic violent bigot.

    A seriously intolerant ‘liberal’

For Christ’s sake get some new material you tedious eegit.

  229. How does this claim relate to the incident involving the Catholic kids Patrick?

You’re not serious are you Dave?

    It’s the whole point.

These were innocent young catholic teenage boys who in the face of vile scum adults stood their ground, didn’t react with violence. Instead broke into their school trademark pep rally routine.

A Pack of young white catholic males who the day before were marching against the self inflicted genocide of the unborn were standing on the steps of the memorial watching the freak show of the left not bothering anyone when they were besieged by a horde of racist thugs which drew the attention of a psychopath with a criminal history who walks in the guise of stolen honor to beet a drum in a young boys face for no reason other than to provoke.

And instead they got what under the circumstances can only be described as poise and decorum. No violence, no return racist chants a prep rally chant of school pride. They behaved like gentleman.

For that they must be smeared and destroyed. Any other group of youths from different backgrounds and this would have degenerated into a melee of violence. Yet the White, Christian, Trump Supporting, Toxically Masculin youth maintained their civility.

That’s a narrative they don’t want shown it goes against everything they preach.

  230. Paul

    You are so very argumentative

I didn’t say that it was a bad thing that they would be talking about this for a long time

It was a Roshomon moment, at least at first, when there were many false narratives bandied about by false witnesses

I think that many of us are bringing a lot of baggage to the place of argument

  231. The bigger story is no so much the incident , But the reaction to it, by the Washington Post, the Guardian, CNN, etc

    They grossly misrepresented what happened.

And as far as I can see, many offending media have not retracted their false narrative. To some extent, is still going on.

  232. Patrick

You missed my point. What you said originally was:

They can’t afford to have anything wholesome be shown to exist in our society.

How do the catholic kids suddenly represent what is ‘wholesome’ in our Society?

  233. For Christ’s sake get some new material you tedious eegit.

    As I said.

    Seriously intolerant

    😂

  234. I can hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video, can you?

Over and over ando er again..

    Blah, blah, blah..

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Yawn..

  235. How do the catholic kids suddenly represent what is ‘wholesome’ in our Society?

I just explained it, because of their poise and decorum their behavior was ‘wholesome’.

  236. Patrick

Your 6:17 comment is almost as ludicrously biased as the’evil white privileged’ narrative from the intolerant left. You portray these kids as perfect infallible angels which is just as ridiculous as the opposite little Hitlers viewpoint.

Perhaps everyone right and left needs to step back from their smug moral high grounds .

  237. Colm

Some have a long way down to fall from their moral high horse..

  238. My horse has wings……..

  239. I the voice of reason have spoken and all must listen and acknowledge my wise words 😇

  240. We will file this one under “intolerant reverse racist self-loathing liberals” then.

    😁

  241. Talking of intolerance..

AFAIK, the only people on ATW who have called anyone on ATW the “C” word, have all been liberals?

There appears to be pattern of intolerance here.

    Oh, the irony.

    😏

  242. But Harri you are a C…………utie 🥰

  243. The kids weren’t infallible

They did the Tomahawk Chop around an Indian, which isn’t cool

Now compare that mild offense with the large offenses by the black racists and by the liar fraud Phillips, the two instigators of the entire unnecessary incident.

  244. I was going to ask “where is Paul”

But after reading his afternoons embarrassing posts, I assume he is sleeping of that third bottle of Gin.

    😏

  245. *off

  246. Now compare that mild offense with the large offenses by the black racists and by the liar fraud Phillips, the two instigators of the entire unnecessary incident.

    Precisely Phantom.

But to the self loathing liberals on this thread, the colour of the skin stopped them from being quite as intrepid Sherlock Holmes as they were on the white kids.

  247. I can hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video, can you?

    Sorry, couldn’t resist it.

I’m just trying to keep the comedy gold going.

    😁

  248. no if I recall Phantom started out saying these kids were wrong and when things started to not add up he investigated and publically corrected his view to an honest interpretation of the event after gathering facts…. and that should be noted.

  249. Patrick

Phantom has been well acknowledged on this thread for his honesty on this subject.

    Others, not so much.

The colour of the skin, which just happens to be white, overrides all else.

Phantom, got it spot on again.

    Reverse racism.

  250. By the way, was it mentioned..

I can hear ‘build that waaalllll’ coming from the Covington group in the new video, can you?

    😁

  251. Yes it’s very nice and cosy from the moral high ground patting Phantom on the head for his willingness to acknowledge an error in original judgement but It would be refreshing to see that same honest reassessment of views being applied by those on the right here to themselves. I see little evidence of it Harri ?

  252. Colm.

    Give it up.

    😏

  253. Harri is the right……..

  254. You could both learn from Phantom but you won’t.

  255. Paul’s performance on this thread is one of the worst I’ve ever seen at ATW. Whenever one is presented with conclusive evidence which shows one’s original position to have been wrong, one simply acknowledges one’s incorrect position and move on – and I recall three of mine, these being……..
    a) Quote incorrectly attributed to Montague Norman, head of the Bank of England – correction from Phantom
    b) quote incorrectly attributed (by Der Spiegel, linked by me) to Vaclav Havel – correction from Phantom
    c) question on Trump’s ‘pursuit’ of married woman, confirmed by Paul.

In each case, I acknowledged being incorrect.

In this thread and on this matter, Paul still insists that the passage of the elderly Indian trickster was blocked by the Covington group whereas footage which we have all seen shows that Phillips walked over to the youngsters and stood in the persoanl space of one of them and banged his drum – this is fact. Paul does not accept this. Instead, he diverts by saying that some apprently drunk kids elsewhere shouted ‘build that wall’ and calls them the Covington group – pure sophistry as detailed by Phantom at

Phantom, on January 26th, 2019 at 4:45 PM Said:

As Dave wrote, “having painstakingly sat through the original long video, I can’t see that anyone in particular, does anything really bad or newsworthy” but the black guys were entertaining nonetheless.

Absolutely, without a shadow of doubt..

Paul has actually now drowned in his own hubris.

Paul’s horrendous hatred for white people has been exposed.

Colm – where was Harri wrong? Phantom saw more evidence and so he did what Paul cannot do, but Harri’s position had no need to change

  259. A@A

For respect to Colm, who is just possibly the only half sane liberal left on ATW, I will personally put a stop on this now.

I mean, its not even sport anymore.

    😏

  260. “where was Harri wrong?”

Pretty much on every thread he’s ever commented on.

    Lol!

    😂😂

    Says Mr Wiki.

    😁

  262. I think the fact that a) you think Mr Wiki is an insult b) you think that me being able to research stuff means I get it from wikipedia; and c) your constant desire to be factually incorrect on just about every thread on this site; shows how thoroughly stupid you actually are.

  263. Lol!

    😂😂😂😂

actually, the insult comes from plagiarism from Wiki.

    😏

  265. Ok. Show me one thing I have plagiarised from wiki.

  266. Leave Seamus alone. I mean, the lad knows more about American Football than we Yanks do! 🙂

    Just about everything..

  268. Charles.

    No.

    He is a dopey liberal.

The idiot deserves all he gets.

    😁

  269. Seamus.

I know, I know ..Zzzzzzzzzzzzz, yawn..

    Racist cut**, blah, blah, blah..

    😁

  270. *cu**

    That’s better.

  271. “Just about everything..”

Then point out one thing. Just one.

  272. Gentleman Charles. American Football is one of my favourite sports. If only they stopped putting them on in the middle of the night it would be perfect.

    You fool no one.

  274. “Just about every “informed” post you have made?”

So point out one. Name a single one.

  275. Seamus, remember, you’re the Zeke Elliott of ATW!

  276. Seamus.

    You fool, no one.

  277. “Seamus, remember, you’re the Zeke Elliott of ATW!”

As you are a Cowboys fan I’ll take it as a compliment. Does it mean I need to start getting into more nightclub fights?

  278. There should be a “racist cu**” coming on in a minute.

The last refuge of a scoundrel

    😁

    Liberals huh!

  279. “You fool, no one.”

So point out one. Name a single post that I have plagiarised from wiki. Just one.

  280. “The last refuge of a scoundrel”

What has patriotism got to do with it?

  281. Does it mean I need to start getting into more nightclub fights?

I think you’re in now one mate!

And yes, a compliment all the way. You’re the best researcher on ATW, always backing up what you say with facts.

And Harri, it’s time to punt, as you’ve gone three and out!

  282. “I think you’re in now one mate!”

Thankfully David isn’t Roger Goodell or I might get suspended.

  283. Fifteen yards for taunting! 🙂

  284. 🙂

  285. Go Rams

  286. If there is a God up in heaven, Brady and Belichick Will demolish the Hollywood Fakers A week from tomorrow

  287. Patrick Van Roy, some’ in our Society?

I just explained it, because of their poise and decorum their behavior was ‘wholesome’.

No Patrick, their behaviour wasn’t ‘wholesome’, this is just emotive nonsense from you yet again. You trying to portray his kids as angelic, which is as ridiculous as the left trying to portray them as right wing demons.
I will accept that they will certainly well behaved in the face of provocation.

  288. charlesintexas,

And yes, a compliment all the way. You’re the best researcher on ATW, always backing up what you say with facts.

I agree. Seamus is one of the most honest, well mannered and well-researched people on ATW. Along with yourself Charles. 😁

And Harri, it’s time to punt, as you’ve gone three and out!

Once again, Harri does not come across well in this post.
In fact, he’s made himself look a bit of an idiot.

  289. Thank you Dave! I wish I was in the same league as Seamus. He’s the best!

  290. i’m gonna be sick….. get a room!

  291. We all want to get a room with Seamus 🥰

  292. bunch a darn Deviated preverts…..

  293. I love you too Patrick, LOL…

  294. We all love each other here on ATW….. except for that dirty minded idiot Colm 😉

  295. Investigation finds no evidence of ‘racist or offensive statements’ by Covington Catholic students during Lincoln Memorial incident

An investigation released Wednesday into an encounter between Covington Catholic High School students and Native American activists at the Lincoln Memorial last month largely supports the students’ accounts of the incident, which prompted immediate and widespread condemnation of the boys after a video of the encounter went viral.
