Because Friday night is Music Night

Another week done at the coalface of capitalism. I hear that it’s half-term next week. Thank the Lord for that. Not only will children be spared the ordeal of incessant claptrap, some of us will be able to to keep the economy going with a little less traffic. I always liked school holidays.

We’ve produced a few decent bands and singers in these little islands, and it’s my opinion that Dusty Springfield is the best female singer of the lot. Better even than Cilla. So we’ll have some of her. Have yourselves a great weekend whatever you’re up to. As always, feel free to share your fav sounds down below –

  1. Mary O’Brien. My God but this is beautiful:

  2. This would have been on the money yesterday, but still appropriate today and every day:

  3. Music is based on emotional experience and subjective taste and each to their own Peter but Christ, I detest Enya Brennan.

  4. But a good song for Valentine’s day, no?

  5. It could be the greatest song ever written and I’d still hate her version of it. She’s
fundmentally dishonest in that her sound is based on layers and layers and layers and layers and layers of studio production.

She should have stuck to singing in Leo’s, her da’s pub in the Donegal Gaelteacht.

  6. I never understood what Enya was about, but her Boudicea was lovely –

  7. From the comments:

I like the part where Enya goes mmmmhmmmmmhmmmh mmh mmh mmh

  8. Dusty at her best CRANK IT UP…..

  9. I liked Clannad back in the day.

    Still do.

  10. To boost her credibility as a soul artist, Springfield went to Memphis, Tennessee, to record Dusty in Memphis, an album of pop and soul music with the Atlantic Records main production team. Released in 1969, it has been ranked among the greatest albums of all time by the US magazine Rolling Stone and in polls by VH1 artists, New Musical Express readers, and Channel 4 viewers.[5] The album was also awarded a spot in the Grammy Hall of Fame

I will have to give that a listen on Spotify

  11. Dusty in Memphis is a great album, an essential.
