RIP ANDRE PREVIEW

By Pete Moore On February 28th, 2019

Andre Previn has died. Yeah I know. Four Oscars, ten grammys,  conductor for the London Symphony Orchestra and all that. It’s impressive, but he will always be associated over here with one of the great comedy sketches, with Morecambe and Wise. Eric Morecambe was a genius in my opinion. And this one always cracks me up even though I’ve seen it many times. Fair play to Previn for sending himself up too. This is comedy gold –

  2. Previn escaped from Berlin as a child in 1938. Lest we forget.

  3. I love how wildly popular these non-Trump posts can be.

    The video link doesn’t work.

  5. That link has worked for many years and was working last night. But since Andre Previn died the hit rate has gone up and some BBC communist has pulled the plug.

    What an impressive mindset.

  6. It still works here

  7. Still not working, which is a shame because it shows Previn’s genius for music and also his total lack of being up himself. And also the comic genius of Eric Morecombe.

  8. Peter

Curious, what device are you using?

It works fine on an iPhone

  9. Phantom

Firefox on Windows 10. Just checked YouTube and it’s working fine. But clicking on that link gets this:

“Video unavailable This video contains content from BBC Studios, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.”

    My country is the UK.

  10. That’s some weird glitch

Because I am in the UK now and I can get it fine!

  11. Phantom

If your in London, watch you don’t get stabbed mate. 😁

  12. !!

  13. Phantom

I’m just having a little joke, about certain people on ATW who claim London is like downtown Johannesburg. and as a man who’s been to both on several occasions, I can promise you, they aren’t similar.

  14. Just checking in to let you know this Londoner is still alive….😘

  15. Thank f*** for that Colm. You be careful out there amongst those savages.

  16. New York is the safest big city in the United States.

And I believe, even with recent spikes, That London still has fewer homicides annually then New York does.

The cities are hugely comparable, Both have about the same population, Both have immense numbers of commuters and visitors every day.

I love London. If there is a better big city in the world, please tell me all about it.

    Hi from Liverpool!

  17. If there is a better big city in the world, please tell me all about it.

    Vienna, Prague, Copenhagen, Stockholm.

  18. I’ve been to those other places, some years ago, but do they have the Endless number of interesting things to do that London does?

I found both Prague and Vienna to be shockingly beautiful.

    Must go back

  19. Phantom,

    Hi from Liverpool!

Phantom You should have let me know you were coming to Liverpool. We could have got together for a drink!! I’m only 20 miles away in West Lancashire.
I was actually in Aintree today, so I was halfway there.

  20. How long are you in Liverpool for?

  21. Phantom

I’m making an assumption that you’d want have a drink with me, which might not be the case.

  22. I did mention it here, and I did send an email To what I thought was the right address

I am here All day tomorrow, and fly back home from Manchester On Sunday

I’m Meeting up with a Japanese friend Tomorrow, and we will take one of the Beatles tours from 10 to 1 or so

I am staying by the Albert dock area

  23. I’d be delighted to meet you

If you’re free, let me know!

  24. Phantom,

I did mention it here, and I did send an email To what I thought was the right address

A thousand apologies mate, I didn’t see your post on ATW. And I just turned the computer on and found an email from you. The email account I use for ATW is itn’t one that I have set up on the tablet, so it’s not one of my primary accounts. I only tend to see it when I turn the computer on, which sometimes can be every few days.
I would meet up with you tomorrow mate, but it’s my mother’s birthday. (well it’s actually her birthday on Tuesday), and all the family is going out for a meal tomorrow. What time do you fly back on Sunday?
It’s a bit of a bummer I never spotted your email mate, because we could have easily met up today. I was actually only 7 miles from Liverpool at lunchtime.

  25. Phantom

What time is your flight back on Sunday mate?

  26. My flight from Manchester international is at 10:45 AM on Sunday. I don’t think that a meeting will work out

No worries at all – I hope you and your family have a great time tomorrow.

I intend to do a bit more traveling around in England Over the next couple of years, Maybe we can meet up at some point

If you have some specific tips about Places that you personally like in Liverpool, I’d be interested in hearing about it. I am not surprisingly upbeat admirer of the Beatles, And their story,

I’ve enjoyed my brief stay in Liverpool so far. Great folks here

  27. “ a big admirer of “

  28. Phantom

I’ve sent you an email with my primary address mate. I’m more than happy for you to use this for any future private communication.
It’s a bummer I never spotted your email earlier mate, We could have met up for a drink this afternoon, and I could have shown you the swing bridge my dad built on the Albert Dock. (It’s got his initials stamped into it, if you know where to look.)
There’s so much to see and do in Liverpool I don’t know where to begin.
Theres the cavern club, (not the original sadly), and Mathew Street of course.
And then there’s the whole Albert Dock complex. There is great architecture and buildings such as the Liverpool Central library. There’s the Williamson tunnels. There’s two cathedrals. There’s so many great museums and art galleries, such as the Tate and the Walker. As well as the three graces and the ferry Across the Mersey today in just a tiny few of the attractions. As well as some fantastic pubs and restaurants.
I really hope you come back to Liverpool soon mate, I’ll make up for missing you next time.

  29. You got it

    Cheers

  30. Hello from the cavern club!

Yup, because I’m sure in Dave’s strange warped lefty world, getting stabbed is just so much fun?

Dave, try telling that to the parents of those dead stabbed kids.

You lefties, you’re just so weird.

    😏

    Ffs!

  33. Harri

In what way would you have been abe to prevent this murder ?

  34. Colm

I couldn’t, you import Africa, you get Africa.

What I can do, is not put a smiley face on the issue of children getting stabbed to death in London.

    Unlke Dave,

    Does that help?

  35. Neither the identity of the victim or the killer has been revealed. Jumping the gun with your African comment Harri.

  36. Colm

If you truly believe, either the perp or the victim, were not black.

Then, you are truly beyond all help.

Colm, you might live on London, but you are about as street wise as a monkey

    😏

  37. SHE PUT A SMILE ON EVERYONE’S FACE’ Camberwell stabbing – Family’s tribute to ‘joyful’ girl, 17, knifed to death in South London who ‘wanted to make everyone feel beautiful’
Katerina Makunova, 17, was found slumped in a block of flats in Camberwell, South London, on Thursday as knife crime continues to grip the capital

    She was white after all.

    Oh, that’s okay then?

The liberal progressives are really quite insane.

  38. Harri

What are you on about. You have linked to an entirely different story. The incident today was in Ilford and the girl hasn’t been named yet.

  39. Katerina Makunova, 17, was found slumped in a block of flats in Camberwell, South London, on Thursday as knife crime continues to grip the capital

But, but, but Colm has managed to stay clear of being stabbed, so knife crime of murdered children in London, is…zero?

You are correct Colm, my apologies, this was another young girl knifed to death, in an entirely different murder in our entirely safe capital city.

    I stand corrected.

  41. Harri, if you’d read your own link you’d have seen that the boyfriend of the girl victim of the park stabbing “is also white”.

Remember lad: read – think – write.
    The order is important. 🙂

  42. I read of an experiment from yesteryear where a 2-year-old (white) boy was being habitualised with an infant chimp. The researchers found that the capacities of the chimp were not improved, but the boy was behaving like the chimp. Thus importing Africa will turn Europe into Africa.

  43. Harri gets it all wrong as usual.

  44. The problems of London should not be ignored by anybody

But it remains a safe world city

Again, very many of its homicides Are bad guy against bad guy

Which are still a problem, but which do not Signify a danger to the general public

Yes, he is, the animals who stabbed this young Lady all wore balaclavas.

They should be hunted down like the dogs they are.

  46. They should be given what we all know they won’t be given, a real life jail sentence.

    Well…. Brexit.

  48. Actually all joking apart, Brexit does have in my opinion a real part in the blame game for things like violent crime increases. The stupid and unnecessary vote and outcome in 2016 has paralysed politics and sucked the lifeblood out of every other area of public life and policies that govt. and those in authority should be concerned about. Perhaps if those in power weren’t exhausted by trying to pointlessly ‘Brexit’ they might have been able to get a grip on knife crime amongst other things.

  49. //has paralysed politics and sucked the lifeblood out of every other area of public life and policies that govt. and those in authority should be concerned about.//

Yes, and you’ll find that, after years of procrastination and silly rhetoric, Hard Brexiters will finally cave when they see that things are heading for an extension of Article 50, which opens up a box of possibilities like a general election, a new referendum or whatever.

It’s also weird how, just like our Patrick loves to portray his view as the view of real America, the hardliners project themselves as speaking for the British people, whereas all reports indicate that the people are fed up with the whole thing and are almost fully united in wanting a return to responsible government.

    Colm

    What bollocks.

Knife crime in London was there well before Brexit ffs!

If Mayor Khan spent less time virtue signalling, he might be able to spend more time on once crime.

And to ignore the fact its primarily a black ting, is wilful ignorance.

  52. Remember this from a short while back?

Originally, the dopey useless excuse of a Judge actually let him off with some liberal nonsensical referral order to do “community work” or some other liberal Woolley headed pointless rubbish “deterrent”.

I suspect when the animal stopped laughing walking out of court, the police just held their heads in their hands, and wept.

    https://youtu.be/HzQCbjRm8Y8

  53. Ah yes harri, much more comfortable and easy for you to blame Khan, who doesn’t make policy on sentencing and cannot determine overall funding for the police. Government has far more power over policy to do with crime than the mayor.

PS nobody said knife crime only started after Brexit, or that it isn’t a specifically disproportionate activity amongst black youngsters so those comments of yours are just fiction.

  54. PS nobody said knife crime only started after Brexit, or that it isn’t a specifically disproportionate activity amongst black youngsters so those comments of yours are just fiction.

    Nope.

    They are fact.

  55. harri

I was referring to your claims that ‘liberals’ like me think otherwise.

  56. Colm

Show me one of your posts where you lay the blame predominantly on blacks.

    Precisely.

  57. Colm

Unfortunately, liberals just like you think exactly limke that.

You are not the solution, you are very much part of the problem

Just like that dopey liberal Judge, who should be struck off.

  58. Colm

If you truly believe Brexit is making those blacks kill anyone who gets in their way, then you are to be quite frank not only wilfully ignorant, but beyond all reasonable help.

  59. London stabbing horror strikes again as man knifed hours after Jodie Chesney murdered
A MAN has been left with serious injuries after being stabbed in Soho this morning, as London’s bloodbath continues.

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1094995/london-news-stabbing-soho-romilly-street-romford-jodie-chesney

    Its like a friggin warzone?

  60. Colm

    You want a solution.

    Caught carrying a knife?

Five years, not two years with good behaviour, they are obviously beyond that social commitment, no “but he was an inspiring rapper, footballer” blah, blah blah.

No PlayStation, TV, in prison, five years solid hard bird.

Its time to put all this liberal Woolley heard claptrap to bed, once and for all.

Don’t want to do five years in prison.

Simple, don’t carry a knife Rambo would be proud of.

    Fuck their “rapping” careers.

    And fuck the liberals.

You have had your wasted time, its not working.

As Seamus said if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck..its a duck.

  61. you can pass that law it exists here in the US for firearms Hari 5/10/15 year mandatory minimum for being in possession of a gun in the act of a crime.

No Parole no time off for good behavior etc etc the law has been on the books nation wide for over 40 years…..

It’s been enforced less than a dozen times. It’s been deemed “racist”. If it was enforced gun violence in the US would drop by 90%.

    so good luck.

  62. Precisely Patrick

Its time to call out those in “charge”

Colm and his now irrelevant liberal ilk, cab revere the likes pof Mayor Khan all they like.

In the meantime, our children are being slaughtered.

Excuse my French, but fuck Mayor Khan, fuck his virtue signalling Tweets.

If the clown Khan is not up to the job, them move aside, for the sake of our children, and allow someone else to take over.

The liberals can cough & splutter with self righteous indignation all they lime.

    Enough is enough.

    And Colm.

Stop bullshittint, please show me at the very least, one post you have ever made laying the blame at the feet of black youths?

    Precisely, you can’t.

Colm, your liberal virtue signalling, and Mayor Khan arse kissing has got us absolutely… Nowhere.

  63. It’s been enforced less than a dozen times. It’s been deemed “racist”. If it was enforced gun violence in the US would drop by 90%.

    Ah ye olde “racist” trick..

“Racist cu*t” in Seamus terms, has got us absolutely.. Nowhere.

    Well done liberal progressives.

  64. Harri

There is no point debating with someone who rants and tells blatant lies as you are doing about me on this thread. Fill your boots rant your lies as much as you like.

  65. Colm

    Talking of blatant lies.

Show me one single post you have ever made laying the blame of the horrific knife murders on black youth.

    Precisely.

    Colm

You carry on kissing Mayor Khans arse.

And our children will carry on dying.

  66. Harri, Colm never suggested that Brexit is making blacks kill people nor has he ever revered Mayor Khan or his likes, as you say he does.

As I said, think before you write, and try to get the truth.

  67. Harri don’t pick on Colm you’ll lose.

He is the only universally loved soul on this site.
