  1. You gave a heartfelt remembrance of someone you knew only on social media. It is shocking when an innocent person is mowed down by a thug probably trying to murder police. The communities that support these thugs are a major problem. Some say they have no support but who was rioting last night. Perhaps such communities should be broken up and the population moved individually to other locations. One way or another, there will be no peace and surely more death if these communities are allowed to continue as they are at present. Hollow statements from ‘leaders’ are useless without proposing how to deal with pockets of terrorist supporters on both sides.

  2. Some say they have no support but who was rioting last night.

They have support although it’s microscopic. I’d suggest it’s a group of malcontents and wannabe ceasefire babies in low treble figures. As to who was rioting last night, it was probably instigated by sinister older types but as Noel says on another thread, bored youths in the North have seldom needed encouragement to riot.

Perhaps such communities should be broken up and the population moved individually to other locations

Wow, how very Balkanesque of you. I believe then it was called forced population replacement and ethnic cleansing.

  3. Well said DV.

  4. Perhaps such communities should be broken up and the population moved individually to other locations

    Wow. Just wow.

Was that first sentence really necessary?

  6. Well saod David. Unfortunately you are right when you say that the murderer will almost certainly not be caught. These people operate with impunity.

The Provos swam in a deep pool. These IRA thugs swim in a much shallower pool, but it is deep enough to give them cover, and it shows signs of getting deeper. They are exploiting the political failure in Northern Ireland and of course Brexit. Ironically, a hard border is exactly what they want. It would be great for their racketeering and smuggling businesses (which is what they are really about) as well as advancing their political agenda. A win-win.

Yes, and more. What they ultimatey want is British soldiers back on Irish streets. The same in fact that some uber unionists want.

  9. *ultimately

  10. Saoradh, a fringe political party that reflects New IRA thinking, said blame for the events of Thursday evening lay “squarely at the feet of the British crown forces”.

    ( Guardian )

That’s a lie. One hundred percent of the blame rests with he who pulled the trigger.

  12. “Lyra McKee didn’t die in the cause of Irish ‘freedom’. She was Irish freedom.”

Nice quote you link to there, Paul.

“Wow, how very Balkanesque of you.” How do you propose dealing with communities infested with terrorist murderers? If they are left as is there will be repetition of Thursday night’s murder and mayhem. If they live in council houses, no problem moving them out. If they own their houses, buy them via eminent domain.

There was the bomb at the courthouse and now this riot and murder. The situation is not improving.

You think their support is microscopic. If Gerry Adams wanted to know who the shooter was, he could probably find out in a few hours. There are the brats in the street and then there is less visible but larger support. SF is supposed to know these areas, lets see what they do other than throw up their hands.

  14. Good news, 2 arrested.

  15. How do you propose dealing with communities infested with terrorist murderers?

I know that the way not to deal with them is with collective punishment, we’ve seen that before, and forced population replacement. Apart from being against all the norms of International Law and basic human rights what do you think the reaction would be from wider nationalist Ireland when seeing forced population movement of Irish people in an Irish city? I’d suggest that the violence that you speak of would be amplified at least a hundredfold. I’d suggest that the way to deal with it is good, sound police work which McG alludes to above.

You think their support is microscopic

I know their support is microscopic and base this knowledge on what SF, the SDLP and the PSNI tell us. If you have different sources to the contrary I’m all ears.

If Gerry Adams wanted to know who the shooter was, he could probably find out in a few hours

    Yeah ‘probably’

These people detest SF, and Adams in particular who the see as some kind of Collins figure, more than you do, (no mean feat). Adams’ family home has been attacked on more than a few occasions by these people. I think you’re putting too much faith in the all seeing, all knowing, omnipotency of Adams.

  16. // who they see as some kind of Collins figure, //

Right. Like Kevin O’Higgens should really have told the police about who killed Collins.

  17. Good news, 2 arrested.

If only it was good news. Watch out for “released without charge”.

  18. Jesus Christ. That didn’t take long did it?

    Fucking disgusting:

  19. Paul,

She seems to have gone full scale mentalist. Possibly some form of breakdown.

Two men arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee have been released without charge …

A statement issued by the hard-left republican political party Saoradh on Friday sought to justify the use of violence on Thursday night.

Saoradh, which translates as liberation in Irish, has the support of the dissident republican group the New IRA.

These Saoradh/New IRA clowns paraded in Dublin and Cork this weekend. It might be that they’re free to do so, but you’d hope that onlookers will feel free to gob on them.
