Give Bone Spurs a Chance

By Mahons On May 17th, 2019

President Trump is sending his usual mixed messages. He does not want war with Iran. And he does. My suggestion if he tries to incite a war everyone just claims they have bone spurs. It worked for him when he wanted to avoid serving in Vietnam. Bone spurs requires a simple diagnosis of joint deformity. Now i know joint deformity might throw a scare into Snoop Dog, Willie Nelson and Grateful Dead fans, but it isnt as bad as it sounds. People with bone spurs can live rather fruitful lives: play golf, grab pussy and host reality television shows.

The President’s National Security Advisor John Bolton seems to be taking the bad cop role, as he pushes for war. Bolton of course joined the national guard to avoid the draft cause he didnt want to die in a rice patty in Vietnam. Not sure that makes him the most sympathetic character to beat the war drums now. Somewhere Michael Bolton is walking into a county clerk’s office to change his last name.

Torn between his slavish devotion to Israel and his slavish devotion to the polls poor Trump has taken his usual incoherent course. Hopefully he tries to use Twitter instead of the 82nd Airborne to attack the mullahs. And maybe he can remember that Bolton isn’t President and reign him in.

  1. Perpetual warmonger John Bolton is a real and present danger to America and to the American soldier.

And the incoherent Trump, who has spoken loudly and correctly against the Iraq War ( since it first started going bad in a serious way ) is the one who hired him.

This is a White House that no longer has the sober military voice of General Mattis to stand up to war wimps Bolton and Trump.

    Anything can happen.

  2. Fair comment.

I read this, saying pretty similar things:

  3. It will be easy to get into a war with Iran, but very hard to end it.

Russia and China will basically be on the side of Iran. I don’t think that any of Iran’s land neighbors would support this US adventure.

I do not like the geography here.

Any such war could last decades. It could be much more severe than the Iraq War, with much worse economic repercussions.

  4. I think a lot of muricas traditional allies will choose to sit that one out, I sure hope Canada does

  5. I think at most it would be restricted to a few isolated “air strikes” to “take out” some Iranian “assets”. That would satisfy the Israelis at least for a while.
Anything else would be a failure.

Iran is a very large, densely populated country with a difficult terrain and a dedicated and loyal army – all very different to Iraq.

  6. I would think that there will be no support for such a war of choice from Canada or from any European country.

There would be support from Israel and from Saudi Arabia, but that will only get the US so far, for a limited period of time. Geography isn’t Israel’s friend in a gulf war, and Saudi Arabia will only be able to do so much.

  7. I’ve been sick as dog the last two weeks with a damn flu, so sorry for my lack of participation.

I have been waiting for one of you bleeding heart whiney lily livered peacenik liberals to comment.

I am writing my own piece on it today that will have a “slightly” different take than Mahons.

Depends how it’s fought and the objectives. We could decimate it in 3 days with conventional weapons but we could never occupy it.

You make this statement as if it matters…… oh boo hoo no one wants to fight by our side aahhh our hearts are broken…

It certainly makes no difference in our ability to conduct operations the only reason we allow any of you to fight alongside of us is so you feel that you matter, but in reality none of you do when it comes to War.

Now also if you want to side with the mad mullahs go right ahead.

and Russia and China aren’t gonna do shit

  10. //I’ve been sick as dog the last two weeks with a damn flu, //

Yes, Patrick, I was wondering where you were and was slightly concerned.

You see, there was a very hot debate about Israel-Palestine a few days ago, and I realised something must be bad to keep you away from that.

//You make this statement as if it matters…… oh boo hoo no one wants to fight by our side aahhh our hearts are broken…//

Patrick, let me welcome you to the 20th Century – as you have to get there first before moving on to the 21st – as follows:

Fighting wars is not just, and often not primarily, about military power. It’s also necessary to get political backing for it, and the money, as well as the people’s backing at home.
Wars also need to a certain extent the cooperation, tacit if necessary, of other countries.

That the US didn’t manage to do all these things is the reason they failed win in a string of wars from Vietnam to Iraq.

Also, even though you can’t wait for a war, and so many Americans think like you, and your daughters are in uniform and your great-grandmothers were all policemen in Ireland and Italy, the majority of Americans would not support a war against Iran. (by war I mean one involving soldiers, not just drone attacks etc)

Also, if, let’s say, the Russians or the Chinese put defence systems in Iran, manned by their people, the US could still drop nukes on the place, but anything more belligerant than angry words would lead to infinitely more problems than it could solve.

In short, in the multi-dimensioned world we live in today – where finance, image, trade, domestic politics etc all play a decisive role – the US could not “win” a real war agaist Iran in any meaningful sense.

  11. thanks Noel I do honestly appreciate the concern. It’s been a rough two weeks.

  12. I think that a small percentage of Americans want war with Iran.

  13. Any such war could last decades.

No Phantom. If the USA got bogged down it would use nuclear weapons to end it.

  14. Yes, you were conspicuous by your absence you contrary old goat. Hope things are better and you’re on the speedy road to full recovery.

I would think that there will be no support for such a war of choice from Canada or from any European country.

I would certainly hope so Phantom. There’s been certainly far far too many European lives lost in American Middle Eastern wars.

  15. on the mend thank you. Haven’t been this sick with a cold in forever.

  16. There will be no war with Iran. Trump said so, and he never lies.

  17. NYr don’t rain on my parade damn it……..
