CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR

By Pete Moore On July 19th, 2019

A pro-Brexit activist has admitted to public order offences after calling MP Anna Soubry a Nazi outside Parliament.

James Goddard, 30, from Altrincham, Greater Manchester, pleaded guilty to causing alarm and distress using threatening or abusive language.

If it’s now illegal to call someone a Nazi then the Left has been denied most of its platform.

    roflmao…. you poor bastards.

  2. This is another defeat for free speech in the UK. There was no violence, just shouting at close quarters. It would not have been illegal in the USA under the First Amendment.

  3. From the ever sensible Lionel Shriver, in reference to Trump’s racist tweets this week:

“The alternative to letting people spout dumb crap is a slippery slope whose gradient rivals Harlech’s notoriously vertical Ffordd Pen Llech in North Wales. In the UK, nine ‘protected characteristics’ are now covered by hate-speech laws, and that list will only expand. Once using the wrong pronoun or stating facts like ‘women don’t have penises’ can get you arrested, your society is no longer free in any meaningful sense…

It’s time to give up on the idea that we can legislate niceness. A law against the expression of racist or sexist opinions doesn’t change what goes on in people’s heads; it doesn’t change their hearts. Instead suppression backfires, and makes what we’d like to regard as unacceptable still more virulent. Granted, allowing the expression of bigoted bilge could injure the feelings of some targets. But when ruling earlier this month that Trump couldn’t block fellow Americans from following him on Twitter, federal appeals court judge Barrington D. Parker’s solution to such injury was spot-on: ‘The best response to disfavoured speech on matters of public concern is more speech, not less.’ Absent hate speech laws, offended parties might be heartened by the numerous neighbours who rally to their defence.

  4. Stating facts like ‘women don’t have penises’ can get you arrested

I don’t think that’s the case at all.

  5. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  6. Yes Patrick, we need a First Amendment here. But instead we are traveling in the opposite direction.

  7. The First Amendment doesn’t state that an ( idiot ) state or locality can’t restrict speech/press rights etc

Not yet – but you’ll lose your job. Even lesbians are losing their jobs for saying that….

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7202277/Former-Olympic-swimmer-Sharron-Davies-sparks-transgender-row.html

Earlier this year 18-time tennis Grand Slam tennis singles champion Martina Navratilova had to apologise for comments described as transphobic by one campaign group.

She said that male athletes ‘self identifying’ as female to compete is unfair and even went as far as to say it is ‘cheating’.

The tennis legend, who is gay, is a long-term campaigner for LGBT rights but claimed that male athletes ‘self identifying’ as female to compete is unfair.

She was called out by Canadian academic and cycling champion Dr Rachel McKinnon, who is the first transgender woman to win a female world cycling title.

McKinnon, 35, still has her male anatomy, but has lived as a woman since she was 29.

She accused Navratilova of transphobia and demanded an apology.

Following an article on the subject that Navratilova wrote for The Times Athlete Ally, an LGBTQ athlete advocacy group, removed her from their advisory board, stating her comments ‘are transphobic [and] based on a false understanding of science and data.’

How does somebody still have male anatomy, and yet live as a woman? That’s insane, and yet…….

Trent Gates, a 23-year-old from Washington DC, removed his testicles in a DIY surgical procedure performed in his own apartment in April 2016, before chopping off his penis in a North Carolina motel room eight months later.

The same surgeon stitched him up on both occasions.

He told Metro: ‘They made sure I got psychiatric treatment just to make sure I was sane and that it was a good decision. ‘The therapists and the psychiatric staff said “Yeah, yeah, he’s good, he’s sane…miraculously”.

The psychiatric ‘profession’ considers a man as ‘sane’ who intends to, and actually did, cut of his testicles and penis.

  9. We have a First Amendment here. It’s the common law doctrine of “no prior consent” from which the First Amendment is derived.

But this isn’t a free speech matter really. For example, the First Amendment doesn’t protect threats to kill. This is yet another partisan ruling from an establishment which has gone deranged at the idea of the UK leaving the EU.

Brexiteers have been called Nazis countless times in the last three years without the authorities even pretending to notice.

  10. An LGBTQ athlete advocacy group, removed her from their advisory board, stating her comments ‘are transphobic [and] based on a false understanding of science and data.’

Job? That’s an exceptionally lose definition.

  11. Pete – yeah, but I liked this

based on a false understanding of science and data

This is when it needs Credulous Dave Alton to explain the science. Dave knows science 🙂

  12. I can’t wait to hear about the “scientific consensus”.

  13. Self-identifying “women” with penises should not be allowed in women’s prisons. One was last year and it ended in rape:

” “predatory and highly manipulative” rapist and paedophile has been jailed for life after a court heard how she used a transgender persona to attack female prisoners. Karen White, 52, who was born a man, used the guise of wanting to change sex to convince the authorities to place her in a women’s prison where she sexually assaulted two female inmates. White carried out the attacks at New Hall women’s prison in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, while being held on remand accused of a knife attack on a neighbour and raping two women.”

  14. Pete – yeah, but I liked this

That was to Paul who knows that youngsters who state that there are only male and female get their secondary education terminated – because it is “contrary to national school policy”

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/school-pupil-two-genders-teacher-argument-video-scotland-lgbt-a8967236.html

A Scottish school student secretly filmed his teacher on a smartphone as the two rowed over the existence of two genders and the definition of inclusivity.

The pupil went on to claim he was kicked out for voicing his “opinion” there were only two genders, while the teacher argued his views were at odds with national education policy promoting inclusivity.

The video of the exchange went global after it was posted online, sparking robust debate about freedom of speech, inclusivity and gender politics.

The pretext for terminating the pupil’s education was “for posting the video footage online – not for his actions within the video.” yeah, right. Scotland is the most PC country outside Sweden, or Germany, or Ireland.

  15. It’s still not getting arrested or losing your job though is it?

I can hear goalposts being moved when hyperbole and exaggeration are exposed.

  16. Losing your job…….

    https://www.business-humanrights.org/en/poland-worker-dismissed-over-anti-gay-comments-files-lawsuit-against-ikea

Ikea is being sued by a former employee who claims he was fired for refusing to take down anti-gay comments from the company’s intranet.

On May 16, International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, the Swedish furniture maker posted an article on its internal website, underscoring support for the LGBT community. The post also encouraged employees to ask customers what pronoun they preferred and engage in conversations with LGBT customers about their partners and families.

That didn’t sit right with at least one employee in Warsaw, identified only as Tomasz K. He told Polish state broadcaster TVP Info, “I’ve been hired to sell furniture but I’m a Catholic and these aren’t my values.”…

Tomasz filed a lawsuit against Ikea last week, alleging religious discrimination and wrongful termination. His case has been taken up by the Ordo Iuris Institute for Legal Culture, an ultra-conservative Polish group opposing LGBT rights and access to abortion. In a statement on the Ordo Iuris website, Tomasz insisted he believed “every man deserves respect.”

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-48740811

A controversial fundraising page set up by sacked Australian rugby player Israel Folau has been shut down for promoting the exclusion of LGBT people, website GoFundMe says.

“As a company, we are absolutely committed to the fight for equality for LGBTIQ+ people and fostering an environment of inclusivity,” said spokeswoman Nicola Britton.

    ….except for those who disagree

  17. The post also encouraged employees to ask customers what pronoun they preferred

Who on the face of the earth wouldn’t laugh in the employee’s face if they were to ask such an idiotic question.

  18. The alternative to letting people spout dumb crap is a slippery slope whose gradient rivals Harlech’s notoriously vertical Ffordd Pen Llech in North Wales. In the UK, nine ‘protected characteristics’ are now covered by hate-speech laws, and that list will only expand. Once using the wrong pronoun or stating facts like ‘women don’t have penises’ can get you arrested, your society is no longer free in any meaningful sense…

I don’t believe that either Warsaw or Australia are in the UK.

  19. I don’t believe that either Warsaw or Australia are in the UK.

Paul – you don’t where Warsaw and Australia are

  20. A student who was called transphobic after re-tweeting ‘women don’t have penises’ has been excluded from a free speech debate at Bristol university over ‘security concerns’. Many were unhappy with Angelos Sofocleous after he posted the statement on his social media account last August.

The tweet led to him being sacked from his role as president of Humanist Students and assistant editor of Durham University’s philosophy society journal.

    Durham is in the UK.

Now can we say that women don’t have penises, Paul?

  21. Paul – you don’t where Warsaw and Australia are

I do, but you obviously can’t structure basic English sentences

  22. Now can we say that women don’t have penises, Paul?

Yeah Pete, I saw that too. Post grad student removed from his ‘job’ as assistant editor of university newspaper. Another loose definition of a ‘job’.

And BTW, women don’t have peniseS.

  23. *penises

  24. To the Trans crowd one question: Should “women” with penises be allowed in women-only domains like changing rooms and toilets and prisons? I know that just asking that question makes me “transphobic” and if I did it on Twitter I would be hounded for months by the Trans lynch-mob.

  25. Who are the ‘trans crowd’ Peter?

  26. Pete is correct – police are arresting people over stating the obvious

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/police-arresting-nine-people-a-day-in-fight-against-web-trolls-b8nkpgp2d

Nine people a day are being arrested for posting allegedly offensive messages online as police step up their campaign to combat social media hate speech.

More than 3,300 people were detained and questioned last year over so-called trolling on social media and other online forums, a rise of nearly 50 per cent in two years, according to figures obtained by The Times.

About half of the investigations were dropped before prosecutions were brought….

This is two years ago, and stating that women don’t have penises is hate-speech, upsetting to those ‘in transition’. Paul is now blowing smoke by demanding definition of ‘job’ but from Pete’s example, the student removed from his ‘job’ as assistant editor of university newspaper is unlikely to find a job because such items on a CV ensure that the state and corporate sectors won’t touch him.

  27. Was it a paid job Allan or a voluntary assistant editor of university newspaper type job?

Did he take his dismissal to an employment tribunal?

  28. Nine people a day are being arrested for posting allegedly offensive messages online

If this is true, your police have way too much time on their hands.

Paul – he was dismissed for stating that ‘women don’t have penises’. This is the Zeitgeist and the details of the terms of employment are of lesser concern. In Warsaw, capital of New Tasmania, an employee dismissed by IKEA for having Christian beliefs is taking IKEA to court. As Poland is in the EU and the UK is still in the EU, there may be repercussive effects.

Do you disagree with the dismissed editor? Do women have penises?

  30. Did you miss this above?

And BTW, women don’t have penises

Did he take it to an emplyment tribunal claiming unfair dismissal?

  31. Allan.

//This is when it needs Credulous Dave Alton to explain the science. Dave knows science //

Bloody hell Allan, how many times have I got to explain this. I’ve never claimed to be an expert in science, although I do know more than the average person.
I just accept the scientific method, what with it being determined by the smartest minds from all around the world, and also so being the best way we have for judging our reality. I think that’s a better method than accepting the ramblings of some bloke up in Aberdeen. What do you reckon?

  32. Did he take it to an emplyment tribunal claiming unfair dismissal?

Paul – I don’t know. He was dismissed for stating that women don’t have penises. If he were to take his case to an employment tribunal, do you reckon that he would have a good case to argue i.e. women don’t have penises?

  33. Paul McMahon,

And BTW, women don’t have penises.

Steer clear of those ladyboys in Thailand mate. 😁

  34. Dave – scientists are as interested in money as anybody else, and money has corrupted science as we see from ‘climate change’, the cancer industry, GM ‘food’ and many other examples.

You don’t read other people’s posts properly, do you Allan.

  36. Do you reckon that he would have a good case to argue i.e. women don’t have penises?

And BTW, women don’t have penises.

What part of that is so difficult to understand?

  37. If a man says that his penis is actually a vagina, and if a woman says that her vagina wishes to be a penis for the rest of the year, should we go along with it?

  38. Allan

Dave – scientists are as interested in money as anybody else, and money has corrupted science as we see from ‘climate change’, the cancer industry, GM ‘food’ and many other examples.

Really Allan, then perhaps you could explain why they’re going to poorly paid science jobs, rather than going into private industry which pays a lot better if their main motivation is money. Indeed, why bother with science at all, why not go into finance or construction, which is infinitely better than scientific Fields?
My friend who worked in climate change research actually took a drop-in pay leaving his job with the BNFL to do this.

This is why I can’t take you seriously Allan, you talk utter nonsense which is demonstrably provable. And your 9/11 link was even more proof of this.

  39. Who’s that question adressed to Phantom?

  40. Dave – scientists are as interested in money as anybody else

    Allan

Here is a scientist who wasn’t. He invented the black box for aircraft in the 1950s and never earned a cent from it:

“In 1953, the department loaned him to an expert panel trying to solve a costly and distressing mystery: why did the British de Havilland Comet, the world’s first commercial jet airliner and the great hope of the new Jet Age, keep crashing? ”

  41. Phantom,

If a man says that his penis is actually a vagina, and if a woman says that her vagina wishes to be a penis for the rest of the year, should we go along with it?

    Phantom, have you been drinking?

  42. The question is aimed at those who pretend.

  43. I wish I was. Get me a chilled pint of IPA if you would

  44. I was working late today and I’m having an alcohol-free evening except that I’ve just poured myself and double, single malt. Well, I’ve worked hard and I deserve it.

Is anybody on here claiming that men have vaginas and women have penises?

  45. The question is aimed at those who pretend

I don’t think there’s anyone like that around here.

  46. It will be dangerously hot over the weekend

No bike riding for me unfortunately

  47. Dangerously hot, what sort of temperatures are you looking at? (In degrees c please.)

It’s been pretty warm here in the UK as well.

  48. It will be about 100 degrees F

Or 38 degrees in the French system

  49. 37.7777778c at dawn with 100% humidity and raising

  50. 37 degrees C !!

    I’m Uncomfortable at 23 degrees C.

Crank up the air conditioning guys. My thoughts are with you. 😁

  51. the three magic words of a Pa summer and NY isn’t much different.

Hot, Hazy, and Humid with thunderstorms at dusk. From middle of June till the middle of September.

Avg temp 90f or 33c with 90% humidity

  52. “On some nights New York is as hot as Bangkok. The whole continent seems to have moved from its place and slid nearer the equator, the bitter gray Atlantic to have become green and tropical, and the people, thronging the streets, barbaric fellahin among the stupendous monuments of their mystery, the lights of which, a dazing profusion, climb upward endlessly into the heat of the sky.” ( Saul Bellow, from ” The Victim ” in 1947. )

  53. nice

  54. Phantom.

Do you still have really cold winters in NY?

We’re definitely seeing hotter summers here in the UK.

  55. “Once you get your head round free-fall acceleration, then we’ll be on a level playing field”

While in Allan’s case free-fall acceleration of his head onto a level playing field seems to have happened some time ago.

  56. Dave

We still get some very cold days in early January and maybe February

It’s always been like that – Cold winters ( But not as bad as Montreal or Minneapolis let’s say ) And hot and humid Summers

I recall some days when it was over 100°

I met with some visiting Irish friends this past Tuesday. They were struggling, after a day wandering through the hot canyons

  57. I met with some visiting Irish friends this past Tuesday. They were struggling, after a day wandering through the hot canyons

I don’t blame them. I would be struggling as well.

  58. it’s hell, but I still like it better than winter…..

  59. When the temperature goes above 90f in summer do women’s penises fall off ? 😱

  60. Global warming makes men’s vaginas sweat more Colm.

  61. When you mix Gender and genitals into a heated discussion, it all becomes a very sticky business doesn’t it 🙂

  62. Those last 2 comments made me feel a little bit nauseous. 🤔

  63. Man Up Dave.. don’t be such a timid little girly 🙂

I think I have just broken several PC rules with that comment !

  64. The UK had a heat-wave in February. Of course it’s nothing to do with you know what, it never is:

“The UK is experiencing its warmest February day on record, with the Met Office reporting a temperature of 20.6C (69.08F) at Trawsgoed, Ceredigion. It is the first time a temperature of over 20C has been recorded in winter.”

What it’s Weather when it doesn’t fit your argument and climate when it does…. please at least try and fake some kind of consistency.

  66. Patrick,

    “I thought weather wasn’t Climate ?”

Fair point but this is not an isolated incident. Heat records increasingly outnumber cold records and they now get set over larger and larger areas, and indeed globally. Used to be some town in Ballygobackways, now it’s occurring over whole states or continents as well as the entire planet (actually, not just now, this started happening years ago). This is all exactly as you would expect in a heating world, the whole curve has shifted to the right, and it continues to head in that direction. In a stable climate the cold and hot records would occur about evenly. That is not what we see.

  67. very nicely put Frank.

Do you believe this is the fault of Man or just part of the natural cycle that the Earth goes through of Cooling and Warming?

    (good to see you back)

  68. Patrick,

    Thank you.

“Do you believe this is the fault of Man or just part of the natural cycle that the Earth goes through of Cooling and Warming?”

I wouldn’t use the word ‘fault’ but yes it is us.

There is just no credible alternative explanation, no natural cycle that accounts for it. The sun hasn’t got brighter or hotter or anything like that. The earth’s orbit hasn’t changed in any way that would account for it. Even if some natural explanation could be found for it (somehow miraculously coinciding with increasing fossil fuel use since the industrial revolution), we’d also then need to find some cooling mechanism that would cancel out the heating effect we would expect to see from the increases we have made to greenhouse gases, land use changes, etc. And that would also have to magically kick in at the same time.

It’d be like trying to explain the fact that Paul McCartney is getting richer, without admitting it’s for the obvious reason of his income from music and tours etc. Instead insisting that maybe somebody had stolen all that money at the same time that somebody else had mysteriously deposited the exact same amount in his account. Or something even sillier like denying that he was getting richer at all or saying that money doesn’t make you get rich.

  69. The sun hasn’t got brighter or hotter or anything like that.

Yes Frank. As I’m sure you know we are actually experiencing a solar minimum in terms of sunspots, but the temperature records keep getting broken. As you point out it is the high records that are being continually broken, not the low ones. And this is happening on all continents as the glaciers cointinue to retreat on all continents. And the El Nino / La Nina variation every few years is increasingly obscured by the ever-warming oceans.

As the permafrost melts in Siberia more and more methane gas is belched into our atmosphere (the same is happening in Alaska) , but some people are making money. I’m sure that Trump and Pompeo would cheer this on, as Pompeo recently applauded the melting Arctic sea-ice as a commercial opportunity:

“Activists and officials in northern Russia have warned of a “gold rush” for mammoth ivory as prospectors dig up tusks and other woolly mammoth remains that can net a small fortune on the rapacious Chinese market. Melting permafrost from global heating has made it easier for locals to retrieve the remains of woolly mammoths, which have been extinct for thousands of years, and sell them on to China, where the ivory is fashioned into jewellery, trinkets, knives, and other decorations.”
