DEMS HAVE HAD THEIR CHANCES

By Pete Moore On August 6th, 2019

A genuine question.

I see that in recent times (1993-95 and 2011-13) the Democrats have held the presidency and controlled both the Senate and the House. In these years they had large majorities in Congress.

Why didn’t they pass gun control legislation when they had the chance?

  1. Not all Democrats are on the same page on this, etc, and in Senate rules would require a supermajority etc

  2. America’s gun fetish crosses political and other divides.

  3. 2009-11 rather than 2011-13. But yes there was no real attempt to ban them during the Democratic congress in 2009-11 (despite the fact that it had a filibuster proof majority). The domestic agenda at the time was dominated by the economy and healthcare but it is still no excuse for them.

I’d say it’s also decisive who moves against guns. If Obama were to try to disarm them, there would have been massive – possibly including armed – resistance. If it were Trump, not so much.

  5. But no one who counts is thinking of banning guns

The rage filled manifestos against gun grabbers ( which are all over the place ) are all idiotic nonsense

  6. as long as people running for president and holding seats in congress are talking about gun restrictions the american public will raise hell about it.

saying it’s the progun side starts these debates or are the ones raising hell is another Phantom Phantasy you get a lot of those.

Look he’s writing a manifesto…. Phantom found a new word man i fes to….. So now anyone who writes something progun is writing a “manifesto” and of course anyone who writes a manifesto is bat shit crazy so all people who are progun and say so are bat shit crazy…. right Tom ?

  7. Biden has just said that if elected “he’s coming after your assault rifles.”

  8. Anyone that says ” if I don’t get my way, more than 620,000 people will die ” is in the manifesto business.

620,000 or so was the death toll in the Civil War.

And by the way, who exactly will the fake patriots be shooting when they go on their rampage? Will there be a hit list?

  9. A fair question, they should have.

  10. During the Bill Clinton era, I believe that the Dems stopped emphasizing gun control because it was hurting them in rural and western/southern states.

  11. Yes. And some other places. Check out Bernie Sanders record in Vermont. Unfortunately the calculus is political risk instead of doing the right thing. That is why guys like Lindsey Graham, Marc Rubio and Ted Cruz serve as fluffed for Trump instead of holding him to account.

  12. Fluffers.

  13. Yep

Cruz is the lowest of the low of them

Trump implied At Rafeal Cruz might be a murderer, and Cruz responds by bringing his kids To have their photos taken with Trump

What a craven lickspittle, the opposite of what a Texan or American man should strive to be

Go to hell Phantom…. as Jack said “You can’t handle the Truth”

The only reason the Politicians even when the Democrats have complete unchallenged control of the government won’t Ban guns is because it will start a civil war.

Am I wrong ? Am I not giving an honest response ?

Ban Guns this week see what happens…. You accuse gun owners of going on a rampage and who will be on OUR list…….

Some crazies or some animals kill people so YOU and your allies decide the LAW ABIDING people need to lose their guns….. there will be no lists. There will be self defense from Tyranny.

So Phantom are you going to volunteer to be the person that goes house to house to collect them or are you going to asign that task to someone else…?

and I never said that you bloviated ass

  16. Those angry loner white boys with guns, this time in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, have again erupted on the body politic.

And those with eyes to see are reminded that the American culture is ill.

But what of the mass shootings in Chicago, the 55 people shot over the weekend, with seven hit near a park and then eight more not far away?

You might think these are “mass shootings” too, but, in political/media terms, they’re not treated as such. The victims, and in all likelihood the shooters, are black. And Democratic politicians find no political advantage in weaponizing the victims of everyday street violence in a Democratic town. So Chicago’s dead are stepped over by national media and national Democrats on the way to 2020.
