  1. Interesting case. The shooting is still under investigation to see if shooter’s belief in imminent harm was reasonable. I suspect he won’t be charged. A 14 year old is a child even if participating in obvious criminal activity. Sad state of affairs.

  2. very sad Mahons

  3. I am sorry for the 75 year old gent’s troubles.

  4. Could we crowd fund him some more ammunition?

  5. “5 teens charged” – is ‘teens’ codeword for N-word?

  6. The video plays but it doesn’t show much. So I click on the link. I get this:

    https://www.tribpub.com/gdpr/chicagotribune.com/

Unfortunately, our website is currently unavailable in most European countries. We are engaged on the issue and committed to looking at options that support our full range of digital offerings to the EU market. We continue to identify technical compliance solutions that will provide all readers with our award-winning journalism.

Thanks to the EU, I’m not allowed to read the Chicago Tribune online.

And they wonder why we want to leave.

  7. What exact EU policy or rule would that paper not be in compliance with

  8. Phantom,

    Probably GDPR

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation

  9. US media generally give way more robust coverage of criminal trials than European media do, including naming defendants and showing their images where in the UK for example that might not be allowed

Is that the sort of ” data protection ” that might be the issue here?

  10. No. They would have done this themselves, presumably because they know their site is riddled with trackers and they’ve yet to be bothered / figure out how to turn them off.

  11. Dog- let’s fund Patrick some proper spelling lessons first. Or as he would, propper.

  12. Frank

    Ah, yes.

  13. ……. Me spel good

  14. let’s fund Patrick some proper spelling lessons first. Or as he would, propper.

I’ve been wondering about that too. I wasn’t sure if it was bad spelling, or was I missing some obscure joke, or even if was an American slang term for something.

Then I remembered it was PaTroll, and it was most likely just bad spelling 🙂

  15. PPat you caved in. Shame on you. Be PProud of your Individual sppelling . Don’t allow yourself to be sppelcheck shamed by the language ppolice 😉

  16. spelling…. *&^%%$$%&*(

  17. spelling…. *&^%%$$%&*(

Is it “Sum up Brexit in one word?”

  18. lol

  19. //let’s fund Patrick some proper spelling lessons first. Or as he would, propper.//

The spelling wasn’t the ugliest part of the header.

  20. Pete Moore.

//Thanks to the EU, I’m not allowed to read the Chicago Tribune online.//

So let me get this straight, the EU with the full support of UK government introduce data protection rules, to protect its citizens from misuse of data, (which the Chicago tribune too lazy to comply with), and you think this is a bad thing?

You really do love banks, big companies and rich, being allowed to stamp all over the little people without repercussions, don’t you Pete.

  21. Frank ODwyer,

No. They would have done this themselves, presumably because they know their site is riddled with trackers and they’ve yet to be bothered / figure out how to turn them off.

Absolutely spot-on Frank. I’ve been doing a bit of work on the side recently helping companies comply with GDPR. Believe me, it’s not that difficult for them to do.

  22. I don’t know the details of this case. Did the 14 year old boy pull a gun on the 75 year old man and he was firing in self-defense? Did the 75 year old man execute a 14-year-old boy for car theft? Either way I’m just glad I live in the UK, were this kind of frontier justice is extremely rare.

  23. The press article I read yesterday said that a group, including this “ boy “ appeared at the man’s house, an extremely intimidating act by a group of thieves.

  24. Phantom

I’m not taking sides in this case mate I don’t know the details. I’m sure the 75 year old guy would be terrified, as most people would if a gang of yous was trying to break into his property. but to be shot and killed at 14 years of age is truly saddening.

  25. More details here

He claims that He saw five strangers in the act of stealing his car, And ordered them to leave, And that two of them, one with an object in his hand, approached him quickly.

  26. Allan@Aberdeen,

“5 teens charged” – is ‘teens’ codeword for N-word?

Allan. Having spent years reading your repetitive posts, I’ve had a thought. I could write a python script that would run automatically and scan posts on ATW and whenever it came across keywords or phrases from other posters, it could automatically insert a selection of prewritten posts from yourself about the Jews, or blacks, or random conspiracy stuff. it would save you a fortune in time mate and then you could get on with whatever crazy stuff you do when you’re not on this site.
Give me a shout if you’re interested.

hang on a minute, Patrick! I’ve got a suggestion for you…

  27. Phantom.

Thanks for the link mate. That makes things a bit clearer.
If you scroll down on that link, you certainly get a rogues gallery of criminal pictures and stories.

  28. Yes

That was an extremely terrifying situation for a 75 year old man to be in, or for any person to be in

  29. I totally agree mate.
But speaking as a UK citizen, it’s even more terrifying in the US because the perpetrators are likely to be armed.

  30. Thanks to the EU, I’m not allowed to read the Chicago Tribune online.

And they wonder why we want to leave.

More fake disinformation from mendacious Moore as Frank and Dave confirm above.

Anyway, while we’re on the subject of the EU:

    ‘Taking back control’

    https://www.euractiv.com/section/uk-europe/news/uk-yields-voting-rights-to-finland-officials-to-skip-meetings/

  31. Dave

    Yes, again

And in the UK and armed homeowner Is a lot less likely to Shoot somebody who he thinks is an intruder of some kind – When I have a minute I will tell you of two incidents That almost turned deadly here

  32. So far the shooting seems justified, but you’ll note the police are still investigating.

  33. I guarantee that old man is having nightmares… I hope he gets therapy.

The shoot sounds righteous, but as Mahons said they are still investigating.

The five teens are being charged with murder because if a person is killed in the commision of a crime whether it’s a perp or a civilian everyone involved in the crime is charged with murder.

  34. I don’t necessarily like laws like that, And I think that it’s being unjustly applied here

It looks like they committed a serious crime, but they didn’t murder anybody

I would be very surprised if any of them were convicted on the charge of murder

  35. Their actions caused a death, if they were adults it would be part of the charges that go to trial. It is standard law.

Seeing that they are juveniles anything can happen.

  36. //The five teens are being charged with murder because if a person is killed in the commision of a crime whether it’s a perp or a civilian everyone involved in the crime is charged with murder.//

They’re being charged with murder, because one of their group got shot by someone else. That is absolutely f**king crazy.

  37. They’re being charged with murder, because one of their group got shot by someone else. That is absolutely f**king crazy.

That’s the Law…. if anyone is killed in the commision of any crime ALL participants are charged with murder.

  38. It is a bullshit law, poorly thought out by the politicians that wrote it.

They won’t be convicted of murder.

  39. The law interpreted this way acts completely against any principle of justice.

You probably have a really stupid DA trying to make a name for himself.

  40. Actually I think the law is fair. If someone is killed in the commission of a felony then the fact they didn’t pull trigger is not relevant

  41. Paul McMahon –

More fake disinformation from mendacious Moore as Frank and Dave confirm above.

    You moron.

The GDPR is EU law. That’s why I blamed the EU. Because of EU law, imposed by the EU, I cannot read the Chicago Tribune online.

The Law is just, and all criminals know it exists and it actually saves lives. It also helps in prosecution. And it has resulted in many murder convictions.

Just like if your the driver of the getaway car…. and did nothing involved in the crime except drive the driver is charged with all the criminal acts committed by the people they drove from the crime.

  43. It actually predates the common law. It isn’t some recent law invented by politicians. As a deterent and punishment it seems fair to me.

  44. Dave – check out the ‘teens’: they are N-words. Do facts affect your feelings?

  45. As usual Allan I have no idea what you’re on about.
I’m not disagreeing that the perpetrators of the crime are black.

  46. Pete Moore,

    You moron.

just remind me again how many times you criticize others for calling people names Pete?

The GDPR is EU law. That’s why I blamed the EU. Because of EU law, imposed by the EU, I cannot read the Chicago Tribune online.

It’s EU law that was agreed with by the UK government. who will more than happy to implement these rules and had a major part indrawing of the specifics of these rules.
Using emotive language and claiming that these rules were imposed is nonsense.
The reason you can’t read the Chicago tribute online, is because this account Chicago tribune haven’t implemented these simple rules. Rules that are there to protect your personal data from abuse.

  47. //Actually I think the law is fair. If someone is killed in the commission of a felony then the fact they didn’t pull trigger is not relevant//

Don’t tell me the 14-yr-old who was killed is now to be charged with murder as well.

  48. Suicide.

  49. Phantom

//The law interpreted this way acts completely against any principle of justice.//

I totally agree mate. It’s bad enough that the courts would convict the rest of a group of murder, because one of them committed a murder. But to convict the rest of the group of murder because one of them was shot, is, as I’ve said before, f**king crazy. That’s not fair or just, in anyway.
