ALLEZ LA FRANCE

By Pete Moore On September 8th, 2019

Professor of Government, Vernon Bogdanor, a Remainer no less, today rightly describes this parliament as “wretched and unviable” for refusing to allow the people to decide whether or not they want to leave the EU on 31st October.

If it takes a Gaullist move to get us out then so be it.

  1. Come on Patrick we need your famous three word comment on this thread 😉

  2. A perfect example of when the UK leaves the EU why it will be out in perpetuity.

Leavers know this hence their guileful ‘implement the 2016 referendum and then have another referendum’ bleatings.

  3. Yes Pete

As someone (ahem) predicted recently, Macron will be happy to say Adieu aux Rosbifs!

Failing that, Johnson could surely get Orban or one of the other right-wing EU nationalists to veto any UK request for an extension. But there would be a delightful symmetry if it was Macron, echoing De Gaulle’s vetos of the UK requests to join the club in 1961 and 1967. History repeats itself. Sacre bleu!

    “bleatings” 🙂

There was a referendum over three years ago and the result has still not been implemented. It is reasonable to expect the result to be implemented then, once implemented, the Remainers can become Re-entrists and make their case. Of course, Remainers are thoroughly dishonest people who should simply have come out and stated that they want the result not to be implemented by whatever means are necessary.

Exactly Allan. But given that re-entry would mean joining the Euro and losing the opt-outs and rebates, it would be a very tough sell unless it was after, say, five or more years of absolute recession caused by leaving. So when we leave it will probably be for good.

    I forget

Are you a supporter of Brexit?

I believe that you are, but that you are not a fanatic about it, and that you see all the problems with any of the choices?

    Thank you 😄

Phantom – Peter is a supporter of Brexit but argues his case with sober realistic cautious and grounded awareness, not the jingoistic faux patriotic “all will be glorious “ anti European fanaticism of the hostile Arch Brexiteers.

  9. Alas rumors abound that the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys will, “laissez-les passer
