DO THE HOUTHIS HAVE DRONES?

By Pete Moore On September 15th, 2019

This is kind of a big deal.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has blamed Iran for Saturday’s drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities.

He dismissed a claim by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels that they had attacked the two facilities, run by state-owned company Aramco.

Iran’s foreign minister accused Mr Pompeo of “deceit”.

Saudi Arabia’s energy minister said the strikes had reduced crude oil production by 5.7 million barrels a day – about half the kingdom’s output.

Someone did it once, so someone will try it again. I assume that it’s a Shia, whether they’re in Iran or Yemen. But you can’t be too careful. I’d round up Extinction Rebellion and the Green Party just in case. You know they would.

I’ve been out all day, unfortunately mostly on the M25 so I didn’t pass any garages. Have fuel prices gone up? It won’t take much more of this to achieve a lot of economic damage.

  1. Oil prices are expected to rise significantly as soon as the markets open tomorrow. What surprises me is that the attacks succeeded so easily. Saudi Arabia is armed to the teeth by the USA, Britain and France but it seems to have had no anti-drone protection on its oilfields.

Of course the Iranians are behind this. Their oil sales have been crippled by Trump’s sanctions and their economy is in free-fall. A desperate state will lash out.

  2. Compact Military Drones can be a real game changer. They Frighten me

    ISIS Used them in Syria

  3. Phantom

Can they not be detected by radar?

  4. I would imagine that metal drones could be detected by radar

But I also imagine that you could make them out of plastics?

And if you have skilled people in charge of them, they can fly really close to the ground where it’s hard to catch them with radar

Or you could have small drones that don’t have to fly very far to hit the target. Etc

  5. Apparently these drones had to fly well over 100 miles, unless they were launched inside Saudi territory. And presumably they would need to be fairly big to carry an effective payload of explosive.

Anyway, the Saudis must be shitting themselves at their obvious vulnerability. Aramco won’t be getting floated on any stock market anytime soon.

  6. only one nation has fully equipped american detection technology and even they don’t have control of it we do.

Drone warfare is nextgen for the rest of the world and ten generations behind what we already have in inventory.

The tone of this post is funny… shock and fear. So tell me what did you expect ? The hub they hit is considered the worlds reserve supply. It is where when there is a fluctuation in the oil market that causes a crunch in supply an eagle whispers to the scorpion…. and extra oil flows. It is strategically the most important Hub in the world.

If it is destroyed every nation on that side of the pond automatically is screwed and prices will rise for all of us, but you guys…. you’ll be rationed.

but the Iranians aren’t a threat to the world… lmao

  7. The Saudis attacked the Houthis in Yemen

So the Houthis aren’t allowed to strike back in Saudi Arabia?

I would think that in the wrong hands a commercially available drone could cause a lot of problems

    http://www.droneguru.net/heavy-lift-drones-for-sale/

  8. the Houthis, Hamass, the PLO, the Syrians, etc….. they are all the pawns of Iran

  9. Let the Saudi’s deal with it.

  10. Patrick

Drone warfare is nextgen for the rest of the world and ten generations behind what we already have in inventory.

I won’t hold my breath, but is there any chance of you backing up that claim Patrick?

  11. Perhaps the Americans and other western powers should spend more time reining in the Saudis and their savage attacks on Yemen , then perhaps there won’t be the retaliatory attacks like this one on the oilfields.

  12. //t is there any chance of you backing up that claim Patrick?//

    🙂

Of course it’s the usual nonsense. There is nothing that is 10 generations away from the rest of the world.

Ten generations ago was Napoleon. So it’s like imagining Wellington’s men lining up with their cannonballs and flintlocks at Waterloo and then the French turning up with supersonic stealth bombers and laser guided drones.

  13. Patrick speaks from experience. He is ten generations away from the rest of the planet 😉

  14. A big drone that flies from Florida to the Middle East Is high Tech, But a fairly low tech drone could cause a lot of problems at airports and cities and chemical plants

  15. I think we are going entering an age where we are going to hear a lot more about drones and sadly 99% of it won’t be positive .

  16. Colm, could you be in Belfast around 24 October?

  17. It took me a couple of years to realize some of the potential of drones , why they are a big deal

I see many businesses using them now

They can be a safe and efficient way of inspecting say a tall chemical plant

I used to have a client that had a huge underground mine in Western Canada. They used drones to inspect the vast underground mine, in perfect darkness, In a fraction of the time it would have taken a team of people to do it

  18. Phantom,

It took me a couple of years to realize some of the potential of drones , why they are a big deal

It may be later than some people expected, but within the next 10 years we’re going to see the introduction of some seriously advanced robotics, including advanced self driving cars.

  19. Noel,

Of course it’s the usual nonsense. There is nothing that is 10 generations away from the rest of the world.

I was just wondering what’s inside information Patrick has to make this claim, seeing as China, which is one of the most advanced countries in terms of technology, could presumably build an extremely advanced drone. Not to mention Russia and India.

  20. The Saudis attacked the Houthis in Yemen

So the Houthis aren’t allowed to strike back in Saudi Arabia?

Well said. The Saudis have been slaughtering by the bucketload in Yemen and the world goes ‘meh’. Saudi oil production is disrupted and it’s an international incident.

If it is destroyed every nation on that side of the pond automatically is screwed and prices will rise for all of us, but you guys…. you’ll be rationed

Absolute rubbish. The EU imports just 7% of its crude from SA.

  21. Noel

I’m afraid not. Various commitments will mean I am unlikely to be going anywhere for the next few months. Is there a planned Belfast ATW summit ?

  22. // but within the next 10 years we’re going to see the introduction of some seriously advanced robotics, including advanced self driving cars.//

On Saturday, a pilotless flying taxi, the “Volocopter”, was tested over Stuttgart in Germany. It has 18 rotors powered by lithium-ion batteries. It has vertical take-off and landing and a max. speed of 100 kmh.

Belfast: hitherto two-man summit tentatively planned for around 23 August. All invited of course.

  23. UPS has had autonomous trucking startup TuSimple hauling cargo for it between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, since May as part of a newly publicized partnership between the two companies. The delivery giant made the announcement today alongside the news that its venture arm is taking a minority stake in TuSimple. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TuSimple had previously run a partnership with the United States Postal Service in May, where the startup’s trucks carried mail on the 1,000-mile stretch between the USPS’s Phoenix, Arizona, and Dallas, Texas, distribution centers. That pilot has since ended, though the two sides are discussing “next steps,” according to a TuSimple spokesperson.

  24. In London this week!

Last visit when the UK is in the EU, maybe.

  25. //: hitherto two-man summit tentatively planned for around 23 August. All invited of course.//

Bullshit: planned for around 23 October.

  26. Whoever hit the Saudis it seems spectacularly irresponsible for the President of the use to use the phrase locked and loaded, to suggest we might know (which by implication means we might not), and to suggest we are waiting on the Saudis for how we will deal with this.

  27. We have lived a charmed life, in that this fake tough guy hasn’t gotten us into a war yet.

He distrusts foreign entanglements, which is a plus, but he’s an unfocused, quarrelsome mess.

  28. Noel

Is your summit like Brexit. It starts at August 23rd, then becomes October 23rd but could be the twelfth of never before it takes place 😉

  29. I propose that Noel get a 60 day extension

  30. Why does the USA have to react militarily at all. It was Saudi Arabia that was attacked and unless I am mistaken they are not part of NATO and can surely defend themselves having spent billions on western arms.

  31. The Saudis couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

But yes I don’t want the US involved in any war there.

  32. Drone warfare is nextgen for the rest of the world and ten generations behind what we already have in inventory.

I won’t hold my breath, but is there any chance of you backing up that claim Patrick?

lolo yeah look in here……. https://shop.janes.com/Weapons/

or field an Army against us……. the rest of the world is ten technical generations behind us.

The last Presidents to make as much progress in Foreign Policy were Nixon and Reagan. Trump is right up there with them….

Phantom can’t make a nonemotional evaluation of anything Trump does due to his TDS.

  35. There has been no progress on North Korea.

There has been no progress in the Middle East, apart from the rollback of ISIS, which started under Obama and which was greatly aided by Russia and Iran.

We walked out of TPP, which was an anti China economic force

The NATO relationship is worse, not better

    No progress anywhere you look.

He is challenging China, which is good, but I don’t see any progress.

  36. Trump and Pompeo said on camera more than once that he would meet the Iranians without preconditions

The media is now fake for reporting what those two said

  37. North Korea hasn’t exploded one nuclear device since Trump has been President and has stopped test launching ICBMs something that was done almost every 3 months with the last President.

ISIS grew and became the Levant under Obama.

NATO members have paid over 100 Million that they owe US and the rest except Geremany are actually trying to meet their obligation…. no other President achieved this since NATOs conception.

Everywhere you look there is more progress than any President since the Wall fell…. Yet Phantom can’t see it…… TDS

  38. ISIS grew under Obama, and rollback of ISIS was well underway under Obama.

Trump claims that he defeated ISIS.

He didn’t. They’re still around, and whatever progress was made was made with the mighty help of Kurds, Iraqis, Iranians and Russians.

I can speak for all here when I thank those Kurds, Iraqis, Iranians and Russians who were de facto allies in all of this.

  39. Phantom

How can you not appreciate what a foreign policy genius Trump is. I mean he even managed to drive hurricane Dorian away from the States and as he would no doubt tell us himself had he been POTUS at the time he would have kept Katrina at bay ( by pushing it over Mexico probably) 😉

  40. Obama actually claimed the Oceans would recede due to him…….

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNc5Yel8Oi0

everything he said in that clip was a lie.

  41. //Obama actually claimed the Oceans would recede due to him…….//

    No, he didn’t.

  42. watch the clip……

  43. YOU watch it.

He did not say anything like what you claim he said.

  44. King Canute Obama, the mad dictator and source of all evil

  45. He said he can walk on water, he can part the Red Sea, and he can save all the animals in an ark when climate change global flooding occurs. Surely Noel you watched the same video as Patrick and I ? 😉

  46. I sailed the Red Sea and the Black Sea

    Top that buster

  47. I’ve jumped out of 5 planes and was thrown out of one at 30,000ft……

  48. I road in an IDF jeep

  49. in Israel?

  50. Yes, in Haifa, Israel

  51. cool

  52. A few of us sailors got lost and they gave us a ride to where we wanted to go one evening.

  53. I sailed the red tide one time

    Never again

  54. North Korea hasn’t denuclearized.

  55. But Kim Jong Un has status on the international stage.

And he exchanges love letters with a US president.

  56. did they denuclearize under Obama ? Did they not pursue nuclear weapons as Clinton promised ?

Lil Kim just invited Trump to NK for more negotiations.

  57. Obama didn’t take credit for a diplomatic breakthrough that didn’t happen.

You lot were jabbering about Trump getting the Nobel Peace Prize for his talks with Kim.

  58. Clinton did….. and Obama gave himself a pat on the back for being the number one supplier of economic support to terrorism in history…. so do you really want to go there?

Maybe he should get a nobel prize for being elected…. the last president did.

  59. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-usa-trump/trump-makes-his-case-for-nobel-peace-prize-complains-hell-never-get-it-idUSKCN1Q42FJ

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump made the case on Friday that he deserves to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on North Korea and Syria, but complained he probably would never get the honor.

    🙂

  60. I always love the Nobel Prize.

It was created as a joke by the guy who invented dynamite, and has lived upto it’s comedic roots quite often.

  61. I actually wish Trump luck in his negotiations with North Korea.

Said so when the talks first started.

But nothing has been accomplished yet.

N Korea is still a fully nuclear state, run by a pack of murderers, and they are testing missile technology like mad

    By Choe Sang-Hun
    Aug. 23, 2019

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles on Saturday, two days after South Korea decided to pull out of a military intelligence-sharing agreement with Japan.

The missiles were launched from Sondeok near the North’s eastern coast and flew 235 miles, the South Korean military said in a brief statement. It was the seventh time North Korea had tested short-range ballistic missiles or other projectiles since late last month.

  62. Obama did not deserve his prize

    He said so himself.

  63. The Nobel Prizes were not created as a joke. They were created by Nobel as a form of humanitarian atonement at his discomfort over the violent uses his invention could be put to. With the exception of the Peace prize which does draw controversy the other prises for science and the arts are virtually universally lauded and respected.

  64. So Kim hasn’t given up an atom of his nuclear program am has succeeded in obtaining critical propoganda of one on one meetings with the President of the US.
It is smart diplomacy,,,from the North Koreans.

  65. Patrick

lolo yeah look in here……. https://shop.janes.com/Weapons/

or field an Army against us……. the rest of the world is ten technical generations behind us.

Yes I agree that the US is extremely advanced when it comes to weaponry.
However, once again you’ve provided zero evidence to show that any other country less technologically advanced than the US, especially secretive countries such as China and Russia.
So once again you’re just making claims that you can’t backup.

  66. I rode in an IDF jeep.

A few of us sailors got lost and they gave us a ride to where we wanted to go one evening.

I’d link to think that was the very least they could do. It was after all your tax dollars which likely paid for the jeep and their wages.

  67. I rode in an IDF jeep.

A few of us sailors got lost and they gave us a ride to where we wanted to go one evening.

Using PaTroll’s logic, had the IDF blown the jeep to bits using laser-guided technology, that would just be your tough shit, as you shouldn’t have been there in the first place 😉

Are there any other takers for an Octoberfest in Belfast? Peter? What about you, Dave?

  68. Seimi

Are you holding out for an Aberdonian visitor to the summit ? 😉

  69. I live in hope, Colm 🙂

  70. Maybe NewYorker will be in Ireland sorting out the beef crisis and will be pleased to come along to Belfast. You are all more than welcome; Séimi is buying the drinks.

Colm, what commitments could be more pressing than an ATW summit?

  71. Are there any other takers for an Octoberfest in Belfast?

I think it could be your good self, Noel, Peter & Seamus?

Perhaps our erstwhile host could also be cajoled into making an appearance?

  72. As Paul, Seimi, Noel and maybe even Peter and David gathered in a friendly Belfast watering hole for the October ATW Irish summit, they were a bit taken aback when a slight elderly Jewish lady and her African husband wearing matching EU flag and rainbow solidarity jumpers joined the table. “I’m sorry “ said Seimi to the couple.. this table is reserved for regulars of a political blog”. “ That’s why I’m here “ said the little Jewish lady politely, “ I’m ‘Allan’ , and I’ve been trolling you lovely people for years “ 😱

  73. It’s strange how we imagine ATW regulars in our mind’s eye. I’ve known Seimi for a lifetime and have met David. I also know what most of the American guys look like.

I see the Aberdonian as a Fagan type figure.

  74. But Noel won’t have already been sitting there. He’ll be Allan’s black husband.

  75. Paul

If Fagan was alive (and real) he’d be onto his lawyers about now 😉

  76. Allan personifies the image of the dour humourless Presbyterian Scotsman, scowling at the sinful world from dawn to dusk. I bet the last time he let out a good belly laugh was when he watched his favourite feel good film… Schindlers List !

  77. He’ll be Allan’s black husband

    Surely Pete, Noel?

  78. “ Triumph of the Will “Would be high on his list

  79. He must be chuckling at all this attention…. if he ever chuckles that is..

  80. I remember seeing a photo of Allan once. Seriously. He mentioned some biog. info once and it was easy to track the photo down. I’ve now forgotten it all, but wouldn’t divulge it anyway.

In any case, I vaguely remember he looked very well, the outdoors type, with maybe a background in sports, that type of man. Anything but the prim puritan Scot.

  81. Seimi.

Are there any other takers for an Octoberfest in Belfast? Peter? What about you, Dave?

I’d really like to try and meet up with you guys. I just got a lot on at the moment.
I’ve just been pricing up ferries from Liverpool to Belfast. How far from the ferry terminal in Belfast would we be meeting?

  82. a good nazi specimen….. that Aryan look…..

  83. I’ll be there in Spirit…. please do a shot of vodka for mw

  84. Dave, the ferry is quite central, and I could come and meet you at the terminal anyway. Same goes for anyone else travelling – I can meet you at the airport etc.

PaTroll: if it happens, we’ll get a photo of the vodka shot 👍😊

  85. thanks

  86. There is, or used to be, a pub down in the port where the Stena line docks. They used to play traditional music there.

How about that as a venue.

Patrick, here’s something for you, in the context of your “North Korea hasn’t exploded one nuclear device since Trump has been President”
Take it from the horse’s – or the ass’ – mouth 🙂

    https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/904305644651634688

  87. Noel, I think your thinking of the Liverpool Bar, which closed many years ago.
If we can get a clear idea of who might be attending, I can suggest a few places.
Like I said, I’m happy to meet people at their various landing/arrival points (within reason!) and bring them to an agreed venue.
I know that David prefers the Crown Bar. That might be a good place to start 😉

  88. I’m sure David would prefer the Felon’s on the Falls.

  89. Well, the Felons used to be Andersonstown Orange Lodge, so he may well prefer it!
    Emailed you BTW.

  90. I stand corrected

  91. just an interesting set of numbers I just saw…..

So far this year 17 American Soldiers have been killed in combat…. 30 Police Officers have been killed in the line of duty…..

Twice as many on the streets than on the battlefield.
