Required Reading…..

By Patrick Van Roy On January 25th, 2020

As the Clown Show continues over the next week you may want to brush up on what’s coming next. After Trump is Acquitted Forever the real show will begin sometime in March. It has been going on quietly since last February. Indictments have already been drawn up but remain sealed.

2 of the 4 Carter Paige FISA Warrants have been declared unjustified (WSJ) due to lack of probable cause the other 2 are expected to go the same way. But that is just the Tip of the Iceberg. Here is the Iceberg.

The FBI Scandal

Donald Trump published the most consequential tweet of his presidency on March 4, 2017. “How low has President Obama gone to tapp [sic] my phones during the very sacred election process,” the chief executive pondered. “This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”

The response from Trump’s opposition was outrage. The Washington Post fact checker gave it four Pinocchios. The director of the FBI, James Comey, rebuked Trump and said such a thing had never happened. James Clapper, Obama’s director of national intelligence, assured NBC’s Meet the Press that no warrants had been issued in 2016 to surveil members of the Trump campaign.

In a narrow sense, the pushback against Trump’s tweet was correct; Trump himself was never personally the target of an FBI wiretap. In any case, the president doesn’t order such a thing; the FBI applies for a warrant to eavesdrop on Americans from a secret court. No such warrant was issued to bug the president’s offices.

But the furious denials were misleading. To paraphrase a cliché from 2016, Trump’s tweet should have been taken seriously, not literally. Obama did not tap Trump’s phones. But his FBI did spy on Trump’s campaign. That fact is no longer in dispute. The question is whether the FBI was justified in treating the Trump campaign itself as a suspect in this crime against the 2016 election.

The answer is messy. A comprehensive survey of all available information about the matter shows there were grounds in the summer of 2016 for American intelligence and law-enforcement officials at the FBI to turn their attention to the peculiar behavior of some Trump campaign advisers. But as the bureau learned more about them, it should have reassessed its theory of the case. Indeed, it was obliged to do so—by law, and custom, and elementary standards of fairness.

Instead, the FBI relied on lurid, sketchy, and sleazy opposition research generated by former British spy Christopher Steele—information so spurious that even liberal news organizations briefed on the so-called Steele dossier before the 2016 election wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole. And it used that information in a specious, circular, and misleading manner to keep that investigation afloat and active into the first two years of Trump’s presidency. Even after the bureau had good reason to doubt its veracity, it didn’t share the exculpatory information it had uncovered—not with the public, not with the courts, and not even with the Justice Department lawyers who were supposed to check its work.

The result was a debacle. What had been teased as the greatest espionage scandal in American history—a U.S. president conspiring with Russia to steal an election—today should be seen as a cautionary tale about the fallibility of our lawmen and spies, the credulity of our press, and the hubris and hysteria of Trump’s resistance.

Here is what happened.

It is a long detailed article, but one I suggest you refresh yourselves with.

The last Paragraph:

That folly has deformed our politics. Now, in 2020, voters are faced with a choice between two parties led by conspiracy theorists and gaslighters. Instead of saving America from Trump, the Resistance may have reelected him.

  1. Required reading? Yes. If you want to cure your insomnia 😉

  2. “2 of the 4 Carter Paige FISA Warrants have been declared unjustified (WSJ) due to lack of probable cause the other 2 are expected to go the same way.”

Highly doubtful. The Inspector General, who you had bigged up the entire way through the process but then dropped after he didn’t deliver the result you wanted, has drawn a completely different conclusion.

The renewal of the surveillance of Page, which occurred after he left the Trump campaign, and primarily after the election, was flawed. And it is the later of the four FISA warrents that have been set aside. So the idea that it was a wrongful targeting of the Trump campaign is insane. The Horowitz report makes it clear that the initial surveillance application of Page, when he was still a Trump campaign staffer, had only minor issues, had probable cause, and showed no political bias.

  3. that line is BLUE Seamus because there is a story connectected to it…… before you doubt what I write you usually have enough sense to verify…..

    Cleaning Up After Comey
Justice concedes that two warrants on Carter Page were improper.

Well, what do you know. The Justice Department now believes that at least two of its four secret surveillance warrants against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page lacked probable cause.

  4. “that line is BLUE Seamus because there is a story connectected to it…… before you doubt what I write you usually have enough sense to verify…..”

I didn’t read the article as it is behind a paywall. But does it state that the remaining two warrents, one of which was pretty much totally backed up by Michael Horowitz, are likely to be quashed?

  5. so what you can read not blocked by the wall confirms that the first 2 were thrown out but hell you can’t do a little digging you just doubt the veracity of what I say…..

The FISA Warrants are just the tip. Did you read the linked article ? I doubt it because you wouldn’t be asking about the other 2 that will be decided on in the next couple of weeks.

You’d be asking about the other 20 million infractions……

  6. I’ve already confirmed that two warrants were thrown out. Or did you not read what I said:

The renewal of the surveillance of Page, which occurred after he left the Trump campaign, and primarily after the election, was flawed. And it is the later of the four FISA warrents that have been set aside.

“I doubt it because you wouldn’t be asking about the other 2 that will be decided on in the next couple of weeks.”

Michael Horowtiz, who you have stopped cheerleading for because he didn’t do what you wanted him to, has already reported that the first FISA warrant for Page had only minor issues, had probable cause, and showed no political bias. So if the Justice Department (the Trump and Bill Barr Justice Department) throw out the first warrant then it will likely be because of political interference.

  7. no you’re not portraying how I described Horowitz report. That is beside the point…

The point is read the linked article…. that describes a good overview of the debacle, but hey if you want to hang on the fact that out of the 4 which Horowitz said were fine 2 have been thrown out and the other 2 haven’t yet but are about too, you go right ahead because you’re certainly not going to be able to handle whats coming.

I went out of my way to post the info by a Liberal writer from BLOOMBERG for christ sake so none of you could say it was from a rightwing source.

    There’s a storm coming.

  8. Horowtiz didn’t say all four were fine. He said the first one was fine and the others were increasingly flawed. The last two have been thrown out. If the first one is then it will be because of Bill Barr’s politicisation of the Justice Department.

“you’re certainly not going to be able to handle whats coming.”

You’ve been promising that for a long time now. Every single time the “indictments” are coming and they haven’t.

“I went out of my way to post the info by a Liberal writer from BLOOMBERG for christ sake so none of you could say it was from a rightwing source.”

I don’t care what the source is (and likely neither do you). If it agrees with your position then you post it as gospel truth. If it disagrees with your position then it is fake news.

Also is Eli Lake a liberal? You any evidence for that?

  9. There’s a storm coming.

    yeah in jim jordans pants
there will be more indictments, but prolly Nunes,Rudy and other co-conspirators

  10. Seamus first let me apologize for being short with you, I truly enjoy our conversations. So please allow my to pontificate here a second.

I’m a black and white man that lives in a world that is anything but…. There is however one aspect of the world that is Black and White, that’s the Law, and even there plenty of grey exists, but the foundation is eternally set. Right and Wrong.

All of the stuff we all usually discuss is crap. It effects us but not at immediate levels. Politics is Football a sport with lots of teams. And like football if our team loses the world still goes on no matter how we feel.

The only difference between man and every other animal is The Law. We restrain our animal nature through a strict set of self imposed rules.

In my nation it is our very founding ALL MEN GOVERNED EQUALLY UNDER THE SAME LAWS.

Over the last 15 years the FBI has slipped back under the mentality of J Edgar Hoover, and where Hoover created the greatest Police force to exist so far he was the most corrupt cop there ever was. His kind are a disease in the policing community that they root out themselves.

McCabe, Comey, Rosenstein, Yates and a few others that have worked their way to the top of Law Enforcement aren’t cops they’re corrupt political activists that have access to the greatest surveillance system in the world and they used it to frame a man.

Now you can dismiss what they did or say I only care because of politics, but you’d be wrong.

They covered up evidence, they lied under oath, they falsified evidence. All in the name of Politics.

I don’t care about the Clintons, or Obama. I care about the dirty cops that facilitated it all…. they are the threat to society.

Crooked Politicians are a dime a dozen, but crooked cops…. they have to be drawn and quartered.

  11. I have long said that the biggest problem with the political theory is that it misses the point wide of the mark. In reality there were major failings, both investigatory and in terms of the functioning of the FISA Courts. That should be, overwhelmingly, reformed.

”McCabe, Comey, Rosenstein, Yates and a few others that have worked their way to the top of Law Enforcement aren’t cops they’re corrupt political activists that have access to the greatest surveillance system in the world and they used it to frame a man.”

I would disagree with that part, in particular. The investigation by the Inspector General found huge failings by the investigation. It found no political bias or motive for actions. And that is the problem with that theory (that it was all politically motivated). It misses the true reason. That procedures were not followed (and likely if we put other investigations under the same microscope we would find those procedures not followed in those ones). That things were skipped. That assumptions were made and stuck to even when exculpatory appears. It paints a picture of an organisation needing reform, not one out to get Trump. Because I would almost gurantee that the failings in this investigation would be found in others.
