  2. I didn’t realize that he was that old.

    I always liked him.

I saw him in concert back in the day. Good show.

I only learned today that he played on three of Bob Dylan’s albums

How could you possibly leave this song off your list

  4. I figured that would be the one everyone else played

  5. The story of his death was of course reported in Yesterdays Washington post

In the comments section, some readers were making disrespectful comments, because they didn’t agree with Charlie Daniels political positions

I cannot possibly understand such a thought process

  6. //some readers were making disrespectful comments, because they didn’t agree with Charlie Daniels political positions//

It’s a sign of the ugliness and danger in our times that practically everything is seen through polarised political glasses.

Very like the situation in Europe in the 1920s and 30s, as many contemporaries reported, and we know how that ended.

  7. Somme of them were saying that Daniels wasn’t a good musician!

A position that Johnny Cash and Marty Stuart and the Grand Old Opry would not agree with.

By the way, the devil asked for a re-match.

    Here’s how that one went.

  8. By the way, the devil asked for a re-match.

Oh dear Lord, sweet Jesus, don’t mention the devil.. (pun intended)

Kurt will get all Trump derangement syndrome on us poor souls..

    😁

And you can’t possibly get any more boring and repetitive than that.

I truly hope the owner of this site retains his benevolence.

    Carry on..

  9. In the comments section, some readers were making disrespectful comments, because they didn’t agree with Charlie Daniels political positions

How many times have you seen actors musicians etc attacked when they have dared to voice a political opinion? It’s a variation of that.

  10. Paul

If people are welcoming a death because they didn’t share the singer’s politics, that is sad.

  11. It’s very sad Colm and indictive of people not being able to separate the artist from the art.

  12. Phantom,

//In the comments section, some readers were making disrespectful comments, because they didn’t agree with Charlie Daniels political positions

    I totally agree Phantom.
I’ve seen various comments recently slagging off JK Rowling’s books because of her recent controversial comments. I find that utterly ridiculous.

  13. he sure plays a mean guitar, right on colm a while back i recognised say Bruce Forsyth was a huge talent, personally not my cup of tea, but he made it in the ents. world
I wouldn’t want to deny him that: would be mean and churlish to do so

  14. Bruce Forsyth ? I am not sure anyone would have considered him politically controversial !

  15. Colm.

    Bruce Forsyth was hideously white.

    Not everyone’s “cup of tea”

  16. Harri, we’ve done this , you backed of and apologised the other day and it was accepted
when you realised my war on whitey was about nasty bigots who might abuse an Asian teenager going to school.
Only those types, which you accurately regarded as “living in the past ”
which i thought was the most intelligent thing you’d ever said on ATE

so you can drop the ploy now – its a specific set of gammons

    Not ALL whites

  17. I disagree with some views of many artists, including say Springsteen.

But I still think that he’s a good guy and a really tremendous artist.

  18. I think that someone like Kanya West’s politics are shitty. I also think his music’s shitty, but in order for me to make a disrespectful comment about him, (not that I would) he’d first have to be relevant.

  19. Most levels of intolerance and attempts to restrict an individual’s career in the entertainment world happens when they express more conservative or Right leaning views than is the expected orthodoxy in those circles.

  20. Kurt.

    No we haven’t.

I have not apologised to you. (Unless I was simply taking the piss)

Yes, you do have a war on old Whitey.

    And it’s ATW.

Stop bullshitting you old bigoted fraud.

Look Kurt, you might smoke that weed by the lorry load, you might roll a mean spliff, but you are not black.

What you are, is the sad, sort of male version of Rachel Dolezal of Brighton & Hove,.

  21. Paul

You can’t even get the batshit crazy artist’s name correct. Its Kanye… soon to be President West 🙂

  22. so you can drop the ploy now – its a specific set of gammons

    You fucking old bigot..

  23. Its Kanye

As I said, he’d first have to be relevant. A bit like that Bonzo bloke from U2.

  24. Yes, you do have a war on old Whitey.

That’s just nonsense. Kurt has explained time and again who he has an issue with. The fact that you refuse to accept that is your problem, not his.

I think that someone like Kanya West’s politics are shitty. I also think his music’s shitty, but in order for me to make a disrespectful comment about him, (not that I would) he’d first have to be relevant.

Herself doesn’t like anyone speaking ill of Kanye West. Not because she likes him or his music – she doesn’t – she just thinks he is someone with a mental health issue, who is being manipulated by those around him for money and fame.

Disliking a band or artist because of their purported political/cultural beliefs is stupid. I don’t agree with the Stranglers’ decision to play Israel, but that doesn’t stop them being an amazing band. Lynyrd Skynyrd allegedly held racist views, but their music was fantastic.

  25. Its Kanye

As in ‘Kanye shut the fuck up!?’

  26. When it comes to loving music but despising the politics of the artist(s) DV is king.

  27. Phantom,

I disagree with some views of many artists, including say Springsteen.

But I still think that he’s a good guy and a really tremendous artist.

Same here mate. There’s lots of musicians and artists that I think I complete bell ends, but I do enjoy their work. And in most cases, appreciate their talent.

  28. Paul.

As I said, he’d first have to be relevant. A bit like that Bonzo bloke from U2.

I let the Kanya(sic) comment go mate, but you’re cruising for a bruising now. 😋

  29. Talking of political nutters. Have any of you heard the story about the Congressman candidate in I think Texas who believes Beyonce is actually an Italian woman posing as an African American at the behest of a sinister plot by George Soros. Oh and Patti LaBelle is in on the conspiracy too .

American politics. Don’cha just luv it 🙂

  30. No, but I wouldn’t be surrised if we hear about it here soon 😉

  31. *surprised.

  32. Colm

    Talking of political nutters..

The former Labour MP Eric Joyce is facing a prison sentence and has been ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register after he admitted to making an indecent image of a child.

The 59-year-old, who was MP for Falkirk in Scotland between 2000 and 2012, pleaded guilty at Ipswich crown court to the offence, which took place between 7 August 2013 and 6 November 2018.

Judge Emma Peters said the single 51-second film, found on a device, “depicts a number of children”.

“Some are quite young, one is said to be 12 months old,” she said. “Clearly a category A movie.”

  33. Paul

I wasn’t being satirical. They were discussing him on the Jeremy Vine show this morning. The Congressman responded to claims that he must have been joking by doubling down and saying he is serious. He also accused Beyonce (the Italian bird) of carrying around some devil created poisonous toxin in her handbag which she was boasting about in cryptic lyrics in one of her songs.

Forget Kanye, I want to see this Congressman in the White House. 🙂

  34. I’ve just read about it Colm, hilariously frightening.

    This is the bloke standing:

    KW Miller For Congress (FL-18)
    @KwCongressional
    I am KW Miller:

    -Leader of the silent majority

    -RINO Slayer

    -Liberal Remover

    -Digitial Soldier General

  35. Colm.

    Beyoncé?

Doesn’t she wear a blonde wig?

    Is that cultural appropriation?

  36. Paul

Those 4 political boasts could have come from Trump himself 🙂

  37. We should ask this guy to write a guest post.

  38. From KW Miller’s website:
“KW Miller is a Constitutionalist and a balanced conservationist. KW is a strong advocate for the right to keep and bear arms and a defender of private property rights.”

Sounds familiar. Anyone we know on ATW?

  39. There is nothing balanced about KW Miller 😉

  40. Colm

But does he sound like anyone who posts on ATW?

  41. Yes I know that description sounds like Patrick, But I think we can agree, for all his faults Patrick isn’t quiet as kooky as Mr Miller !
